To be honest Rick, I think you should play with irons you fancy. Golf is meant to be fun and enjoyable and if you want to play with the P7 CB irons, play them!
I'll be honest with you Rick. Everything that I have used from Taylormade I love. Thats why i have made my bag exclusively TM. I love your reviews its nice to see how these things perform with some one else using them. I also wanted to give you a huge thumbs up for being brave enough to try and qualify for the open. A couple incredible 3 woods that prove old bluey belongs in your hall of fame clubs. God bless you kind sir and thanks always for the entertainment and informative content!
Favorite looking new iron for me anyways, along with the Ping blueprint "t" muscle back, they both have that non chrome finish which I really like. Expensive too. Give em a try on the course, Rick! Very curious to see how they perform "off" tour.
I've just got myself a set (5-PW) of the P7-MC's, upgraded from the Callaway edge and my first round was just over my average (101) and I wasn't doing my best ball strikes and swinging quite easy with them for the first round so I'm very happy with them =]
Hey Rick, I think if you'd throttle back a bit you'd gain a lot more control and consistency with your irons -- probably get rid of that big hook you seem to come up with now and then. That being said, like any better than average golfer you can play pretty much any irons you like. All the little tweaks and forgiveness features won't mean a lot to the quality of your typical strike.
Senior golfer here and old enough to remember TaylorMade's RAC TP forged irons of 2008/9 which the P7CB closely resembles at least at first glance. I do prefer the looks of these smaller forged CB irons to hollow backs that pretend to be muscle backs but are really not.
They’re lovely - I’ve never owned Taylormade irons, they never appealed, but the last couple of years they’ve up’d their game. Not sure I could jump from T150’s to them. P770’s maybe ….. but just for the looks I’d consider them
Rick, to be fair. If Grant can play p770, so can you. The forgiveness is there combined with looks and power. I know you are a good ballstriker, but so is Grant. I think you should consider those
Grants miles ahead of Rick as far as ball striking and consistency. Kids swing is like butter, its amazing. He is only 25 yrs old to be fair but i thought exactly the same as this comment…he even said the CBs arent nearly as forgiving or long, which is crazy but thats what it is. You hear CB and you usually think forgiveness. And i love Rick and everything hes done for youtube his vids have taken tons of strokes off my game years ago…but yeah the club choice thing is wild
Reminds me a lot of Tom Wishon's (WishonGolf) 585PC cavity backs. These clubs are CB on the #4 to 7 with a progressive muscleback design on the #8 and onwards. Maybe you want to give them a try even though they don't come off the shelf but are reserved for being sold via club fitters only. And by the way: as long as you can't claim to be able to play golf, you should refrain from commenting on other people's game. And according to Bobby Jones, you can claim to be able to play golf if you've won the Open. So most of us should just stay silent and just enjoy how well you play 😀
Looks great Rick. I wonder if you mapped out the numbers of all irons you have hit across the last 5 years on GC quad, would it be obvious that the technology has changed to improve the average golfer. I feel like if i had titleist irons like DCIs from early 2000s, AP 2018 series and now the latest Tseries or TM equivalent, would the average 6 to 12 hcapper get 1000 euro worth of improvement 😊
TaylorMade has been crushing it. The P7 line is some of the nicest irons out. There’s not a single club in the latest lineup that isn’t beautiful and they all put up the numbers
For real. After having a combo set of takomo 301’s cb/mb, I’d never spend the money on these. Unfortunately they didn’t suit me well because I’m a shit ball striker, but I’d happily pay 1/3rd (or so) of the price for a set of takomo 201’s.
I think these irons are beautiful, but I wish they hadn’t put those horizontal lines in the inset part of the cavity. I’m sure there’s something to be said about stability, weight distribution etc…but they’d have almost a Miura look to them if it weren’t for those stripes. Just an opinion.
@RickShielsPGA Have you reviewed the 2024 Big Berthas? I remember watching golf channel as a child and they said, “You may be ridiculed but, they are one of the most forgiving sets ever.” Maybe they aren’t as formidable as they used to be. It would be interesting if you reviewed them though.
Rick mate, you're still the man. But i think your iron play is already brilliant. I hate saying it and im sure you're sick of hearing it but its the driver you might need to change.
