The oil palm culture is probably the one with the greatest growth potential in the world among cultures of economic significance. Brazil has the greatest global potential for the production of palm oil, due to the nearly 75 million hectares of land suitable for oil palm, with emphasis on the states of Pará, Bahia and Amapá, the main palm oil producers in the country. Popularly known as guinea palm, demdem (Angola), dende palm and dendê coconut palm, palm was brought to Brazil by slaves and adapted well to the humid tropical climate of the North and Northeast regions It is considered the most productive oilseed that exists, surpassing the production of sunflower, castor and soy. After all, one hectare with oil palm yields 5 tons of oil per year, while soybean, only 500 kilos and castor oil, 700 kilos of oil per year. The promising oil palm culture in Brazil has opened doors for the use of its oil to obtain biodiesel, which can replace or be mixed with diesel oil derived from petroleum.

It's been amazing watching all these videos, I noticed simples things that I had in Brazil that I never thought about before. I'm missing so much my country, our cuisine, our beaches, and nature. Enjoy our country and thanks for sharing with us all these experiences ;)
You are doing super well without knowing Portuguese because I'm still struggling with English lol

São Paulo never reached 40 degrees, usually around 28 degrees in summer, which is the average heat in summer, Rio de Janeiro has a tropical climate and easily reaches 40 degrees.

I added additional things that came to mind. I really adore Bahia. My apologies for the typos, it’s hard to see without the glare, I have mild cataracts! Please re-read. I have added info I think you’ll enjoy!
    God bless you!
Hi! Sou Brasileira e Americana por parte de pai. I’m Brazilian and - American on my father’s side.
Okay, you have some minor things wrong, no biggie!
    - The really old buildings the young lady mentioned were built around 1500’s, not two hundred years later! If you look for Salvador’s history in Portuguese, you’ll see I’m correct. The city was founded in 1549. Btw:I lived in Salvador for years prior to returning to the US! Circa: 1970’s/80’s.
    The police following you:
Since there are some federal agents in my family, (Both Americans and Brazilians) it was explained to me that the police officer might have noticed something/or someone following or watching you and perhaps someone might have noticed and notified the police and as to why he followed you both, or he might have thought you were famous, but who knows? lol. -It’s not the norm though... I do know you were at an area that has crime. I know, it doesn’t look, but my parents were rubbed many times in that area in the 70’s! Salvador is not a super safe city, it’s filled with pick-pockets, etc,... you got lucky! Overall, the people are very nice there and I know you had fun from the looks of it!
Óleo de Dendê! Ah,... Saudades! Palm oil is extracted from the palm, a fruit given by the oil palm nuts which looks like mini coconuts, it’s yellow inside and very different from coconuts. it’s palm tree was originally from Africa which was brought to Brazil in the 17th century and adapted on the coast of Bahia due to the tropical climate. It’s quite acidic and super fattening, but the oil flavor once cooked is amazing ! Great for fish fry, moqueca de camarão, acarajés, etc,... (Comidas típicas Baianas!)
Additional info about the capital of Bahia: (Yes, it’s Salvador!)
Baia de todos is Santos., (Bay of all Saints) has some of the most admired historical buildings in the country. To celebrate the legacy and beauty of the capital of Bahia, I have gathered some info for anyone interested, these are the major attractions/suggestions of what to know in Salvador for you to go back in time and fall in love even more with the culture of Bahia & it’s friendly people! But, Bahia is filled with history! Please check the entire State for its history. - It’s were Brazil was discovered.
    ----
    First, Baianos love to eat!
    They have unique long siestas!
    The food is phenomenal!
The cuisine is a typical Afro/Portuguese cuisine to die for! (Not literally, of course!) So keep in mind the diversity when it comes to comidas típicas Baianas!
Some of the typical sweets I grew up with are:
Cocadas - made with sugar and coconut shavings. The cocada is part of the typical sweets of Bahia. Sweet and crunchy, it is believed that the cocada recipe arrived in Bahia through enslaved people. Over the years, the cocada has conquered the traditional taste of Portuguese and Brazilian styles, becoming a traditional Baiano desert all over Brazil.
Some sweets I remember as a child are:
Again: Cocadas - in addition to the traditional version made with condensed milk, sugar and grated coconut, other recipes with passion fruit, chocolate, strawberry and many others are possible! - The traditional flavor is my favorite!
Pé de moleque - Softer than peanut brittle, really yummy candy!
    Bolinho de estudante - wank
This fried tapioca sweet is covered with sugar and cinnamon and is also known as "punheta". I love it!
PAMONHA!!!! Omg, this sweet made from corn is sensational! You must try if you love corn!
Mungunzá - (the actual African name) like harmony corn, but super yummy. The known name in Brazil is Canjica. It’s excellent abs a favorite in the winter. (In my family)
Quindim de iaiá - much like a custard, but even better! So good, you have to have more than one!
Baba de moça- Another Portuguese heritage is baba de moça, a simple and delicious dessert prepared with egg yolks, coconut milk and condensed milk. This is one of many typical sweets from Bahia, delicious and simple to make!
Okay, enough sweets, let’s step to the next level: The local people!
Baianos love loud festive music, there’s always some sort of festivity in Bahia!
The traditional fun stuff: Concerts on the beach and going to the beach as much as possible! A very popular tradition are the Trios elétricos which are famous semi -trucks built like ambulant nightclubs so-to-speak; it’s a kind of truck or float equipped with a high-power sound system that’s pretty crazy loud, where you can hear for blocks on end, and a stage for music performance on the top, playing for the crowd as it drives through the cities and hold many famous artists. The crowds are typically HUGE! Please note: Leave your smart devices in a safe, secure place and all your personal possessions if you decide to attend one of these party blocks, bc the thieves will most likely target you as a potential easy prey, or crowds are so compacted that you might just lose your phone accidentally. Keep your cash/cards/ID safely tucked in undercover hidden fanny bag, the type that wraps around your body, facing forward, not back! This is a very good advice for anyone traveling anywhere in the world! I have been to 49 countries, only two felt safe in my experience, none were safe in Central or South America. Sorry.

    Historical points of Salvador
    Lacerda's elevator - Elevador Lacerda ****
Model market - Mercado Modelo *****
Santo Antônio Fort, Barra Lighthouse (Farol da Barra) ***** !!!
    Nautical Museum
Please note: mercado Modelo is worth visiting! That marketing rich in history and it’s goods are beautiful, I specifically love the African style silver jewelry. You must get the ancient African “Figa” for good luck!
The Historic Center of Salvador de Bahia, is also known as the Pelourinho (Portuguese for "Pillory") it is a historic neighborhood in western Salvador, Bahia and it was the city's epicenter during the Portuguese colonial period. It was unfortunately known for the whipping post in its central plaza where enslaved people from Africa were publicly beaten as punishment for alleged infractions and they were also sold as slaves. The Historic Center is extremely rich in historical monuments dating from the 17th through the 19th centuries. Unlike Americans, Brazilians do not live in the past, it’s a different mentality all together there.
    Okay moving on:
    Two extremely famous churches:
Our Lord of Bonfim Church **** Igreja Nosso Senhor do Bomfim! This is the church/cathedral my mom used to take me for her novenas, etc,... It is the most famous cathedral in Salvador. Please check out it’s amazing history online, I promise you’ll like it!
    São Francisco Church and Convent
Pillory (Pelourinho) is located in the historical centre of Salvado, a must see church! More details about it:
The ornate Church of the Third Order of Saint Francis sits adjacent to the convent. The friars of the Franciscan Order arrived in Salvador in 1587 and constructed a convent and church on the site. This structure was destroyed by the Dutch during the Dutch invasions of Bahia - in the next century; Father Vicente das Chagas initiated the current structure in 1686 which was completed in the 18th century.
The Franciscan church and convent have the largest number of azulejos, 55,000, of any church in Latin America & it’s beautiful!
    How I miss Bahia...
    -----
Don’t forget to try these very traditional foods:
Acarajé! is a type of fried cake made from black eye peas, but some call it cowpeas... . It is the most wonderful and popular street food in Bahia. The recipe for acarajé was introduced to Bahia by slaves who possibly came from Yorùbáland during the colonial period. In Nigeria acarajé is named Akara, and the women who sell it call out "Akara je", which means "Come and eat Akara" in Yoruba. So when freed Yorùbá slaves started to sell acarajé on the streets, and the beaches, they used the same technique. You’ll see them all over now.
Crab legs on the beach with chopinho and a live band. There’s nothing better!
Btw: If you see a lady wrapped in a white gown and turban around her head, she’s like a priestess - Mãe de Santo. Ask her to bless you and if it’s possible to take a photo with her, it’s a treasure! - You must ask permission, these ladies tend to carry entities, some may not like the idea, but no harm in asking!
    -----
Try these places next time you visit Bahia
I lived in Costa Azul - where all the rich and famous lived.
Patamares. A very trendy on the ocean resort style neighborhood. Very rich. My previous home before moving back to the US.
    Farol da barra.
    Piatã
    Praia do Forte
Pituba - Pituba is a large upper class neighborhood located in the southeastern zone of Salvador, Bahia. Its main routes, the Avenues Manoel Dias da Silva and Paul VI.Its name is indigenous origin and means "breath, breath, sea".
    Another great tourist place:
Try visiting Porto Seguro (about four plus away from Salvador!) -Where Brazil was discovered. It is worth it!!!
    I hope unwashed helpful!
    Hugs,
    Luciana.
