- Today we are in Belem, the gateway to the Amazon. We are açaí lovers, that amazing and nutritional berry that actually comes from the Brazilian Amazon jungle. Now that we are near the real source of acai, we had to see what it is like. Up here in Belem, and in the North of Brazil in general, people eat açaí completely differently than in the rest of Brazil and the world. Açaí is a favorite Brazilian food of ours, so we were very excited to try it up here in the Amazon. Try some Brazilian food with us and see the extraordinary way that Brazilians in Belem actually eat their açaí. This is the acai Belem Brazil travel vlog.

Um alerta para quem nunca experimentou o legitimo açai de Belem o efeito colateral é que da muito sono e mais o calor....

No, you're eating it correctly, in amazon we love to have it as a dessert too. The difference is that we don't mix it with fruits, condensed milk or cereals. We add sugar and tapioca or manioc flour (as they showed in the video) and eat it fresh of course. Actually not everyone in Belém enjoy to mix açaí with seafood, I see there's a little misunderstanding about this subject. It's an habit mostly adopted by the riverside population and the poorest ones.

You're not eating it incorrectly just because you don't mix açaí with seafood. There's a little misunderstanding about this, because It's a habit mostly adopted by the riverside population and the poorest people. I mean not everyone in Belém like the seafood combo. I believe it is better accepted as a dessert by the general public. The difference is that we mix it with sugar and tapioca or manioc flour instead of fruits, syrups or cereals. We love to have it as ice cream too, there's a very famous ice cream shop called 'Cairu'' that's very popular with locals and tourists who enjoy the amazon fruits.

E não é demérito nenhum apontar que é um costume levado em maior parte pela população mais humilde, continua sendo algo cultural de Belém, mas a minha intenção é apontar que não é pq é um costume local, que significa que é o jeito que toda ou a maior parte da população de Belém come, como da a entender. We haven’t had any issues with mosquitoes! Good luck with your move
Not a really big issue at all. Sometimes that tv news make the scenario sound worse than it really is. The probability to be bitten by them is bigger if you're close to jungle or flooded areas, but anyways I'm sure you'll be ok even so, just use repellent in this case.

As you see, Brazil is very diverse, each state has their unique culture. Basicaly the only cultural thing that unite us all is portuguese language, cristianity, football, wearing Havaianas flip flops and eat rice and beans every day. ;D
Brazilians who are not from the North decorate Açaí with fruit because it's easier to sell them. Fish and shrimp are not easily found to go with. That's my opinion.😉

I am from the region.. I usually like içai in natura.. that is exactly like you are eating..The way you are eating is the original way the indiginous people have eaten all their existence here.. I eat açai with fried meat, it can be fish, string sausage etc.. that replaces lunch! Of course that is culture not something people from other places are used to, so it is more like an acquired taste.. but once you get used to it you think there can´t be a better kind of food!

the thing is that when we eat açai from southern brazil we assume we love açaí (who doesn't?) but then we try açaí in its original form in the amazon and you realize what you actually love is sugar and ice cream.

Não adianta vc pegar esses sorvetes q eles chamam de açaí nas outras partes do Brasil e achar que é açaí de verdade, pq n é, é sorvete sabor açaí e tem 0 gosto do original. E o original sim no Pará é vendido 15 pila o litro e ta caro ainda, pq antes de virar modinha vc encontrava de 7-10 reais.

É a forma original de consumo do açaí baseada nas tradições do povo indígena brasileiro. Região amazônica riquíssima e cheia de cultura e história da nossa gente e nosso país, o casal tem muito para ver e conhecer nessa parte do Brasil.

In Brazil the avocado is 99% consumed in a sweet form instead of the tradicional mexican guacamole form so the people from Pará must feel a bit like the Mexicans do when they get to know our "avocado culture". LOL

@@ak47br The açaí they had at Ver-o-peso sucks its too liquid. They need to realize that not because they are in amazon, every place will delivery the best açaí possible. Visitors need to do their research to have the best experience possible (the same applies to every other place in the world). However the one they had at Point to Açaí looks good, definitely creamier.

I think that the acai looks like more of a treat when it has fruit and is thicker. I haven't found acai in my local grocery store. But I'm going to keep looking. The seafood there looks amazing. Crab claws are one of my favorite foods, not easy to find and expensive here. Loving your Brazil adventures.
But in most of the açaí shops found all around Belém you can ask for a thicker version that is as creamy as ice cream (and 100% natural), but of course it's a bit more expensive, because they use more fruit pulp to do it. They probably had it thinner, because they tried it at a street market and the food in those kind of places tends to be cheaper.

@@lieliane3280 acho que não tem nada a ver isso deles serem mão de vaca. as viagens deles são low cost e é uma experiência próxima à de mochileiros, onde se leva pouca bagagem e viaja para vários lugares, da maneira que eles querem, sem pagar muito. A intenção dos dois na maioria das vezes é essa, com um guia esse tipo de independência não existe.
