Wanted to say I discovered your channel last week and have thoroughly enjoyed watching the house building videos. The way they are tastefully done and I just get a kick out of the rapport between you all. Two foot timer will be one i remember. A few things to say when it comes to thinking out of the box and not being professionals. I'm an old soldier, but hang me if I can remember what BCD's(?) meant. I drove tanks in the 80's during the Cold War. So, a few things, If it is stupid and it works, it aint stupid! Your ideas and ways to over come obstacles are great. To Quote Heartbreak Ridge, Clint Eastwood, "You adapt, improvise and overcome!' I am yet to see or hear any whining, any please send us this or that. Just the honest requst for information, and the good grace and manners to thank people for it also. My hat is off to you all and I thank you for letting me see good Southern Grace, Style, Courtesy and Manners again. Nice to know I aint the only one :-) Lydia, far as I am concerned You are an honorary Southerner, even if you are from Illinois? Thank you for letting me into your family, and letting me see that there are still good and kind hearted folks out there! Happy Mother's Day Lydia!

Cross-cutting like you're doing (against the grain) is giving you what we call a "cookie" in the woodworking community. If you were to cut it lengthwise, like lumber (i.e. along the grain), that's a "slab". Love the videos!

Watching your wood work took me back to my hunny moon in the north of California and found nice woods cut just as you did and I bought one nice large one and made us a living room table set ....it turned out into a very nice table....covered with the special shiny varnish ...and there are so many things done with the wood...a precious material ...yours will be one of those 🎉💫
Those slabs will make some beautiful tables!! Watching this took me back to my childhood days in the Pee Dee swamps of SC. I like Ladly Rue's fishing technique, beat them with the rod tip until they surrender.😅

A couple of cracking looking slabs there, our Mothers Day was the 19th March and yes my wife was spoilt rotten with gifts galore she deserves it looking after me with my health problems, i think the best part for me was watching your daughter fishing she has one heck of a cast, Happy Mothers Day to Lydia i hope she was spoilt as well.

You could use the first thin slab as a wall plaque. Maybe a name plate for your home.

Wow! You're sitting on a gold mine! My job is purchasing lumber, and I've been doing it for 17 years in here in Colorado. Cypress isn't in huge demand for us here, but...man! I bet that log is 100+. Can't wait to see what you do.

I took a wire brush to mine to bring out the grain out, then covered with epoxy, brought beautiful highlights of grain out. If you try it just let the epoxy float on it's own on surface. The edges will be fabulous. Makes for a nice expensive surface like glass.

Man that is a well sharpened chain Big Jim that first cut was thin and takes a sharp chain and sharp eye to make a cut like that. Can't wait to see the tables when you make them. Nothing like a day fishing with the family. God bless y'all

I was stranded once; all cuddled up with a cypress sinker at camp on the Neches. Its the closest I ever came to true swamp love. I can't directly relate to the history, but glad you got yours for sharing.

Watching you cut those slabs, and then driving over the debris across the road, got me thinking how cool it would be to have some merch made from some of those smaller trees. It was neat to see you as a family having an adventure in the swamp. Far different terrain than what we have here in Utah. Happy Mother's Day!

Happy Mother's Day Lydia! Y'all have gone and outdone yourselves on this one. The excursions into the swamp brought me back some 50 years to the thing I loved doing the most, staying at my grandfather's camp in Bayou Liberty in Slidell. I can smell it lol. I my father, now 91, taught me to fish there in the neighbor's slip. Caught may a croaker, catfish, and perch in that slip. Even an occasional flounder. Pulled a gar out one day even. Never saw any gators and ran into the occasional snekk or two. Aways was fascinated with the garfish. There was this spot by a tree that shaded an area where every late afternoon, the perch would bite, just for about an hour. It was always the best time fishing of the day. Cane poles! Man, I can hear those poles clacking together as we carried them. So many memories of the good old days. Oh and the cabins were built out if cypress too! I could go on for hours. Thanks so much for sharing. This one really means a lot. Love y'all. Take care and God bless :) .

Cut a maple tree down and slabbed them. Gave to friends. Cut boards with chainsaw mill,and used them and stumps to make end tables out of Cedar. Glad to see ya'll doing similar things!! Happy Mother's Day to the Mrs !!

Another awesome video guys! Can’t wait to see y’all working on the cypress tables. The guy’s that cut down swamp cypress with a cross cut are all gone now, they worked unbelievable hard and only made about 1 dollar a day! Very tuff times
Jim ,,being a twenty plus year guide I have a tip for ya ,,when I was taking kids fishing ,,I always get the pliers and mash all the barbs shut , just in case someone get a hook in them ,,ohhhh and I want you to know that I am voting for lady rue in the next most beautiful and sweetest baby alive contest.

Holy smokes, I just started watching episode 56! Man, All my thoughts and prayers for you all. I'm a hospice nurse and I deal with situations such as that. I have grown to looking forward to watching your videos, I watch them a lot when I am on duty, waiting to be called to go help a hospice family in need. If I can ever be of help, please let me know. Look up a flattening jig for a router to level off those slabs. Plenty of youtube U vids on how to build one. There are no "bad days" fishing.
Google how to make a router sled. That would be perfect for flattening those slabs. Those will make neat tables. Good luck!

Last time I checked sunken Cypress is very expensive and based on the rings that tree was over 100 years old when it was cut down and been under water another 100 years. Glad y'all had time to get some fishing in. It took me three tries to watch this video due to storms in area, keep losing satellite signal. Have a great week y'all from NE Texas.
Yes sir it is very expensive….. at least what we have been able to find. We are going to count the rings soon to get an approximate age on the tree. We love having unique things like that to incorporate in our home. You know us…. Rather have a tree stump table than one made of solid gold! Hope that you had a great weekend Mr. Timothy!

Yeah we were fishing - nothing wrap it up. But My daughter insisted she get to fish, then in a minute, with her "play " fishing pole with a worm and pulled up a 3.5 lb bass. We could have just died..😂😂😂
