Good thing I wasn’t the one cooking that smoked sausage , I would have ate half of it before the chicken went in. That gumbo looked delicious!!
Haha right Steve! It takes a lot of self control 😁
Dats right !!!
Never mix my seafood with chicken!!! I’ll use a lightly smoked sausage!! Mostly fresh mix sausage from best stop !!! My favorite is duck and oyster… i also do okra shrimp and dropping fresh eggs dropped into gumbo while on a slow simmer!!!! My gumbo normally will simmer 4 -8 hrr with out the meats!! I brown my meats really well, I’m in Abbeville !!!
Looks good! My bf is from Louisiana and they use nasty crawfish. Not for me, it's like chewing on a muscle. Now shrimp I can do!
Boooo! Lol just kidding. Everyone had their things! Tell them to scoop you out some before they add them in next time. 😁
@@CajunCountryLivin lol I just say, no thanks I'm trying to quit and the laugh and enjoy there meal. I'm fine with that. Shrimp 💯 Crawfish they can have it 💯. 😋
This is down right mean!! Now I'm going to be craving gumbo all day! I need a "hootis bowl" full of gumbo and rice with some cracklin cornbread on the side. The best part of this video is the appearance of the "executive chef" with the cute yellow ribbon in her hair.🥰😁
I sure wish we could send y’all a bowl! Cracklin cornbread!!!!! That’s always a winner!!😁
This is a good wholesome video. Family values and family oriented. Thanks for that.
Our pleasure!
Great recipe! and also I like the cookware you guys using, you care to share the brand and where you find them please? appreciate you for sharing your family!!!

Thank you so much!!
Good Vid. I'm sharing this one and the other Cajun cook you did with my son. He loves Cajun food.👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼👍🏼
Thank you!! Glad y’all enjoyed!
I would like you to cook Hagis Neeps & Tatties... love from Scotland ❤️
Great gumbo recipe, in my case I have a shellfish allergy, so I use steak in place of shrimp or crab when I make gumbo. 👍👍
Steak sounds like a GREAT substitute!!
@@CajunCountryLivin Yes, covers 3 of the major food groups, Beef, Chicken, & Pork
I eat steak to!
Great video you guys. Love myself some gumbo!! Lydia, you have such a beautiful smile. Love to see that all the time!! :)!!
Hello this is Eugene here in Baton Rouge Louisiana I like to get in touch with y'all I like to meet y'all I love with all what y'all doing I don't know know the way
I feel you on celery, they have celery salt that helps with that but because it’s a salt use very sparingly.

HI GUYS, I'M FROM ILLINOISEEE, JUST KIDDING. A CHICAGO BOY. LOVE YOU GUY'S. YOU HAVE A GOOD SPIRIT. I'VE BEEN LEANING ON SOME CONCRETE WORK AROUND THE HOUSE. YOUR INSPIRING. THANKS. I WILL TRY YOUR RESCIPE. LOOKS AMAZING!!!!!
Thank you very much!
I , Was Just Thinking About A Time Long Ago While Working The Big Muddy And The Foods I Got To Try Every Saturday Evening. You , Forgot Something In Your Gumbo. Lol Oh , Lawd Y`All Gonna Kill Me Now. Gator Tail ( I , Cant Get Here). Love , Your Cooken Segments Makes My Stomach Yearn For Days Back Then And , The Foods Then. Thank You Both For Bringing Those Memories Back. Yes, Those " Gumbo Bowls" Are A Bit Small .. Keep um Comin.
Thank you Mike! We’ll have to keep gator on our menu for future videos!
The gumbo looks delicious, but you didn't make the standard cajun veggie mix, "trinity", which contains onions, bell pepper, AND celery!!😟 We never make gumbo without using "trinity". The celery adds a certain pleasing flavor to the gumbo. Your's looks absolutely scrumcious and I wouldn't pass up eating some of it!!!!!😀
Thank you! We are just not fans of celery here! Lol
So that’s gumbo, looks nice even though I don’t like shrimp 👌🏻 I just think of Forest Gump when I hear gumbo 😄🤦🏻♂️
😂 that’s funny! You can make it without the shrimp!
MY GOD, that looks good but I know if I ate a "GUM_BOWL" full, this OLD Northern bred and born man's gallbladder would die a thousand PAINFUL deaths
It turned out really really good! Sorry to hear that your gallbladder isn’t well.
Wait the chicken was local 😮, how local 😂 Like out the back door local? 😂 Looks so yummy, when’s dinner I’ll be right over 😊 Also, where do I make a booking at the Cajun Restaurant 😊 Awesome have a good one ❤
It was extremely local chicken Robin😂 Wish we could send you a bowl…. Might have to reheat it when it gets there!
Etouffee and now gumbo! Ah got me sum suthern dishes to make! :) Central Illinois boy, born and raised, transported to the Chicago area at age 16. They thought I was southern! Keep'em coming!
Absolutely!!
Haha Lydia can understand that! She’s from Central Illinois as well!
No rush , so whenever your ready to make a jambalaya recipe video I’ll be here because Zatarain’s in a box just isint cutting anymore .. Help an ole boy from south central Kentucky out pls .. I love spicy foods and my wife and I love the south Biloxi, New Orleans area .. It our favorite place to visit but dang them bugs in summer time on the windshield driving thru the pine tree highway down to the gulf ..… miss it already .. Respectfully, Angela & Romeo.
We sure will! 😁
A question and two comments. First, it looks like the key, to the recipe is your dad’s sausage with the particular ingredients, seasoning, and cooking method (smoking). Since we cannot get that sausage, what commercially made alternative would you recommend? First comment, the cooking show was terrific, I loved watching it. Second comment, I think you need to start a cooking channel separate from the Cajun Country Livin’ channel. You already decided on the name - The Cajun Country Cookin’ channel, assuming that name isn’t already used.
Hello,
I’m not sure what type of sausage will be at your local markets or Walmart. Down here, we have a lot to choose from, but I know up north where Lydia is from, the options are fewer. Just some type of seasoned sausage will work.
We have been thinking about that too. We haven’t fully decided on if we want to start a new channel at this time, but plan to make a playlist for the cooking videos for now, that way they will be separated from the house ones.
Look, I know ya'll been busy building a house, buy you're gonna have to get a garden goin, and some meat chickens goin on that full size property of yours. This store bought ingredients, I expect to be replaced by home grown pantry food. I will say, ya sure made that meal look good though. I enjoyed this episode of Cajun Country Livin.
We are working on it. Just as soon as we get this house a little closer to being finished, we are definitely going to be starting some of those outside projects 😁
I have to say.......that is some of the best lookin soup I've ever seen.
Ha ha. just kidding. Looks damn good though. I can understand why calling it soup would be negative. Calling it soup would not do it any justice. Soup can be good, but that is miles above that. Thanks for sharing.
Come on Rob! When I first read this I was like….. c’mon man! Lol! It did turn out pretty amazing 😁
at 9:54 the pronunciation of oil by Lydia is awesome, i was born in Washington state moved to Idaho before moving to Louisiana, and yes, a dialect is very easy to pick up, now being in the UK for a bit it really confuses folks as to our dialect and pronunciations, as for the gumbo it looks great, and nope i do not do the Chitlins the girls love em nope not for me, an argument i here about gumbo is tomatoes i don't know i have eaten it both ways and don't care much for tomatoes in it. i do remember a cooking channel by Justin Wilson I GUARANTEE lol, the cooking vids are a cool switch up to the build as it shows more of who you are as a great couple, Dawn says thank you for the blessings. God bless you
Hey there Ernie! Yes it is definitely strange how the pronunciation of words can change in different regions. I don’t think I’d care for tomatoes in gumbo! Tell Dawn she is very welcome 😁
Justin Wilson was great, I gar-on-tee. Many of his videos are still on UA-cam, I was watching one today. What a coincidence.
Hello again from California. I think we will give this a try. Never had Gumbo before. How strong / spicy tasting is this, how strong are the spices? Thank you? 😎
It’s not that strong…. Just a little kick😁
So are you telling me these Mac ‘s cracklins from Walmart I’m having now for lunch taste like crap !🤦♀️. Lol
Hahaha yes Monica 😂
Only one thing, when is youtube going to get off of there butts and develop smell dat vision..And i bet that is delicious, well that is a understatement... I cook gumbo, but yes you can teach a old dog new tricks. Really anything you cook i will watch. Have a great weekend, and one more thing,i bet that sausage would be dynamite on some good ole French bread...or heck a gumbo poboy...
That’s too funny Robert! We hope that you are having a great week and we will see ya tomorrow!
I can hear Jimmy C Newman singing about file' gumbo....
Poor poor okra, being left out like that.
😁
Heck yeah GUMBO😋😋 is the number one dish in Louisiana it's not a soup it's GUMBO😋i lived in Louisiana for years moved from Chicago trust me food there are absolutely to die for you are right Jim everybody can't make a gumbo and everybody say their gumbo is the best i say the same but however you make it i guess it is the best all i have to say it's the bomb it's not a soup😄😋
That’s right Estella! Thank you so much for watching!
This Michigander wishes he could come for dinner, boy does that look good?😊😊😊😋😋😋
We sure wish that we could send you a bowl Douglas!
Gumbo looks wonderful but I can hear my grandmama now: Cher, how you make gumbo widout okra. The o in gumbo is for okra. But it still looks good! Keep up the good work.
Jim really likes okra in gumbo too. Thank you very much for watching!
Love boudin from Louisiana!! Do NOT LIKE okra due to the slim!!
😊
I like how you move the st sign around on different set.
😁
Add sugar to your rice and you will make sticky rice. It works great in Sushi. There's an idea, make Sushi next.
Thank you!!
We ABSOLUTELY LOVEEEE sushi
I am sitting here at work watching this video and now I am hungry for my maw maw’s Cajun cooking
Sounds like we need a delivery service.
I stumbled onto you channel looking for dry slab pouring. I love it and subscribed. Try using no sodium broth so you can control the saltiness. Just a hint from New Orleans.
Thank you!
Nice CCC on the air. Thanks for the Gumbo, I would be interested in your Jambalaya to cast a vote. Cheers and thanks.
We will definitely have to add jambalaya to our list!
I love seafood gumbo.i am going too try and make it.God bless🥰🥰🥰🥰

Love Gumbo! Yours looks delicious.
Hey, guys love the content!!! Can you tell me where you got that pot from looks nice! Also, have you thought about doing a cookbook to sell with your merch!
Thank you James! We bought a set from Amazon. We actually didn’t have but a couple pots that would work on the induction cook top that we installed. So we ordered those a few months ago. A cookbook sounds interesting…..
I'm from louisiana now living in North west Arkansas, I miss the southern cooking so bad.
Absolutely!!
I love you too guys. Love watching your videos. Thank you so much.🎉😮😅
Thank you for watching Carlos!
I was smart this time and ate something before i watched this but that didnt help. The okra would of topped it off for me, but that is a special taste. You two can cook anything you want ill be watching and missing southern eats till May
Haha love this 😂 wish it would’ve helped Ben!!
Great job! Made my mouth water. Reminds me of Justin Wilson.
Pure compliment!

I'm really going to try this recipe, I'll take a picture and send it to you when I do 🤩😋😘
We would love to see it when you get it cooked! I bet it will turn out great!
My mouth is watering. It looks so good. Is it very spicy, the way made it?
It turned out really good Gary! No sir, we dialed the spice down a bit in the video. We usually make it much spicier.
Wow that looks delicious how many are you feeding!!
Jim doesn’t know how to cook small portions 😂
Hey if you don't mind me asking what kind of bowl is that that you guys are cooking all that in I like to get me one of those I like that let me know please
It is an induction pot. We bought a set of them from Amazon.
Hey guys, do you have anymore of those aprons?? I sure would like to get some for my daughter and son.
Hi! Send us an email. 😁

Thank you Rob! We are so excited that our Cajun family is growing! So many good people in this world 😁😁😊😊
Only thing missing was a big hunk of tater salad heaped up in the middle of the bowl
Right!!
I love cracklings and I grew up in Nebraska. My dad did a lot of different kinds of smoked meats. Looks delicious 😋🤤😋 and I am with you, chicken thighs are better.
Yes Larue! We are definitely chicken thigh fans around here!

Thank you Edward!
Looks like some good eating, will have to try that soon. See you Friday.
Let us know how it turns out Steve. See ya Friday!
How about some Dirty Rice? mmm mmm
fry your okra down in a little vinegar that will kill the slime before you put it in the gumbo.
Good tip Bernie!

Ohhhhh we are gonna have to cook a big pot soon! Soooo good!

It looks so great and my mouth is watery right now. I use to live part time in the Dominican Republic and we do some sort of the same meal....with 3 diff. types of meat and potatoes and yucca and smoked sausages as well. We cook it often when we go to the rivers and waterfalls on eastern time. I love your channel, you do such a great job. A shout out to the three gumbo cooks 😆
I bet that tastes great! Thank you for watching!
I just make seafood gumbo will only seafood.
That’s good too!
Like your guys video!!! I made gumbo for the first time ever after not eating seafood for 25 years because i'm picking eat sometime!!
That’s so awesome Tyler!! So glad you gave it a try!
Thank you!!! I been to Louisiana twice in my life because my mom and hear family from there!!! But I just couldn't do it to eat seafood but both time I did eat some fried alligator an stuff when I was down there Louisiana!!! . Watching your guys video say didn't have to stick a normal gumbo recipe because I could play with it because i didn't have have to cheicken and sausage gumbo !But next time I think some alligator meat to it. First I will. stick with chicken and sausage gumbo until I get use making it for while
Smells good from here, when I was a kid it was red beans and rice on Mondays and some kind of gumbo twice a month. Not that it matters to anyone but me, love my 1/2 shrimp poboy and cup of gumbo every Friday. Thanks for the all the spice you put in your videos.
We love some red beans and rice over here too! That sounds like a perfect Friday schedule to me!
another great episode and recipe! Would you please link to your "Gumbo bowls", cook pot and dinner plates?

Thank you!
Great video. Definitely not soup!! ❤
Thank you!!😃😄
Hey Jim and Lydia, you know what I was thinking about, is that those cookin' aprons would make a great addition to your merchandise line. What do you think?
And also, I have had real gumbo, near Shreveport, and also attempted to make my own.
Try to guess which was better???.......
........well......not mine!😢 I prefer to have ocra in gumbo, but I don't like ocra otherwise. Too mushy for me. Love your videos, thanks for sharing, and God Bless!!! 🚜🌽🐶🇺🇸🧺🤠🛞
ooo crackling is delicious i have had any crackling in awhile
Yes!!
Gumbo is a bowl full of goodness! And it def is not a soup or stew. I feel you on chitlins that and anything super fishy smell I can’t do. Basically if it stinks to my nose it knows it’s gonna stink in taste.
Lydia was pregnant when she smelled it for the first time and she swears it makes it 10x worse. Which, im not sure how you get much worse than how it smells now!
Lmao oh I remember the first time I smelled it I asked the person if they where having issues with their toilet. They looked at me like I was crazy. And I feel for her if that’s was her first time because when you are pregnant man oh man. It’s like you have a super snout, you can smell everything thing on this gods green earth.
