I’m a simple man. When I see a dude in his wood shop with a picture of George Washington crossing the Delaware river, I subscribe!!
Hahaha thanks!!!!
I really like the Woodglut plans.
oh really
Love seeing an American who understands hard work.
Thanks!
I appreciate the fact that you take time to answer everyone’s comments!
Thanks! I try!
Pretty dope for a first video, made quite a few flags already been wanting to step it up with these concealment ones. Good job bro!
Thanks man I appreciate it!
100% successful youtube recommendation... what are the chances I land on a video I actually enjoy and it's the channel's first video. Awesome! Looking forward to seeing the rest of the content.
Josue Avila thanks!
Well, I’ve never made anything out of wood before. I’m a complete idiot when it comes to this stuff but watching this video has inspired me to give it a try.
Awesome! let me know how it turns out!
Great video for first try. Awesomeness project without a lot of BS. Thanks
Thanks! making a 2.0 soon should be a bit better haha
I love the technique with the torch! I'm going to make my husband one of these for his birthday, but flip it over so that it opens downward, and he can use the back side of the door as a table top for working on his guns. So excited!
Thats awesome!!! Feel free to reach out if you have any questions!
@@Workshop1776 what wood did you use for the stripes? You mentioned that you used birch for the star section
Its 1x2 select pine from home depot
@@Workshop1776 That's what I figured. I was thinking of making it bigger, so I was looking at the 3-inch wide boards (which, of course, are only 2.5 in wide - WTF is that about?). But by the time you factor that extra inch per board in, this thing was going to be enormous! Lol
Haha ya it’s strange I agree. If you want to make a 4 foot wide flag the stripes need to be 2” wide and 2.5” if you are going to make a 5 footer
I bought plans from Stodoys plans and did it very quickly.
awesome
@@Workshop1776 👍👍👍
Good stuff! Keep the videos coming!
Thanks! We have some more lined up for the next couple of weeks! Stay Tuned!
Amazing work!
Thanks! I have a few more videos coming in the next few weeks!
Should of shown complete build.
Ya, sorry about that, i had to ship it before i had a chance to film the voice over part
Yeah I really wanted to see the functionality of the cabinet. 🙁
I was wondering the same.
This time I will do it manually with the help of Woodprix designs.
ok
Thank you very much Romaine :*
@@pierluigicolotto9570 I'm glad you like it
BAD ASS bro! Keep the videos comin!
Thanks! got a few more ill be uploading in the next few weeks!
Looking forward to it!
Great video patriot! 🇺🇸
Thanks!
That's awesome. Makes me wish I took woodshop in highschool. Liked and subscribed.
Thanks!
Hi friend...You are a true inspiration. Excellent work!
I really, really am
Hello, this video was amazing, thanks for sharing, really educational to learn a lot, now I have a question for you, what kind of hardware did you use to hang it out, I making my right now, any advice. And your cover slide over ? If so what size of slider drawers did you use, thanks.
Thanks! The drywall anchors and screws I used to hang it are linked in the description, I didn't use drawer slides, I used soft close hinges also linked in the description
my school has a wood shop class im doing this..... this is sweet
Do it!!!
Good shit man, very nice product. I was curious how you did the hinges, and if there was any magnetic lock or if it is free to open.
Looking forward to more videos, keep it up.
Thanks! we have a bunch more videos on here somewhere! I screwed up by not filming the hinges, there is not a magnet or anything holding it closed, something i'm gunna change in the 2.0 version
Almost asked about the stars. I said damn those are nice points. My dremel does good, not that good. Awesome build
Haha ya the dremel is a good option if you dont have access to a laser. Im sure your stars look legit tho! Thanks for the kind words, hope you check out the rest of the channel :D
Great job looks good
Thanks!
Nice build, but if I want to do it, I'd like to know the size of the cuts and types of wood. What type of glue?
Where did you get your supplies? Some types of instructions so I could do it.
I know it's your first video, I get it. I'd like to see it more instructional. I watched it thinking I would be able to use it to make one. That's not the case.
I have heard this a few times, and i agree, i will be making a 2.0 version of this gun case in the next few months, that will highlight all of those things. hope you give that video a look, once it out, and let me know what you think
@@Workshop1776 I'll be ready for the 2.0 version! Great job!
When u was putting the clear coat on u could tell it was makin the red pop really well
Ya it really darkens up the whole thing
Do you have a picture of it on the wall. I would love to see the wall control installed...
Unfortunately, i dont. I had to ship it to the client before i could really finish up filming, and finished shots. The closest i have would be on my Instagram. I will be making an updated video in the future that will have everything showed better and more bells and whistles. :D
Hey sir, do you prefer the piano hinge with the gas struts for this sized box, or the two cabinet hinges? Trying to decide for mine. Thank you.
Hey bro. Just found your channel and became inspired. For the box, how deep did you make it?
Thanks! glad you enjoyed it, i think all the dimensions are in the description, but if my memory serves me correctly I think it was 4.5" deep
Awesome job thanks
Thank you!
What was the other channel you mentioned when you were talking about the foam insulation?
Foureyes it is also under Chris Salomone
I just found ur channel Semper Fi brother love the name it’s very creative
Thanks! I'm glad you like it! Don't want to misrepresent, I was Navy but worked with Marines quite a bit!
Oh nice man I did 6 years in the infantry freakin miss it sometimes how much you charge for one of them flags I’d gladly pay you to make one
Oh nice! I have a few different sizes that I'm starting to sell. I'm ironing out the final prices for out of towners and ill get back to you :)
@@Workshop1776 following..
Hey brother, very nice job and you’ve got yourself a great little office off the shop. I was wanting to do something like this but with the foam inserts. Have you thought about that, do you know if a really nice priced p,ace to get it from. I found a place online I think in Georgia where you could buy in bulk but I can’t find the dang website anymore. GREAT STUFF BROTHER...
Thanks! I have thought about using the foam, but unfortunately that's where I stopped. I didn't really look into where to buy it or anything like that, sorry :/
What do you use for shipping? I'm having trouble figuring that part put.
Shipping is tricky. We use Stamps.com buts its still pretty expensive, we are working on that part as well :/
I use the boxify app because my website is on Shopify. Anything over 36 in, it's horrible. You save a ton of money with that.
I was going to ask the same question. Have you been able to figure out anything better?
I can tell it was your first video. But, you did fine. Nice gun cabinet.
Thanks! slowly getting better
What a dipshit comment. I can tell this isn't your first time saying something stupid.
What kind of wood did you use? I’m using yellow pine and the stripes always tend to warp on me after I rip them with a table saw. Thamks
Chase Thompson I use select pine, or premium pine, it’s a bit more expensive but it’s not as soft as the yellow/common board stuff, and you can typically save some money if you buy the 1x12 and rip to with yourself. Definitely a worth while expenditure in my opinion
Atleast I know how to build a box now. With a flag on the front
Ryan Smith there ya go!
Nice video! But wouldve liked to see the glueup and how you make the case actually open
Thanks! I have another video coming out soon that will be a better more comprehensive overview. Including the glue-up. and sorry about the hinges was pressed for time towards the end. Next time I'll get it for sure.
Workshop 1776 Looking forward to it man!
Have you ever tried cutting all the boards to length to cover union? Then use razor blades to keep the 2 stains from bleeding into each other
I have not, i have seen a lot of people on UA-cam use that method. However the ay for the laser engraver i use is only 24"x18" so it makes more sense for me to keep the Union separate. Since this video i have gone away from ply wood and just use the same wood i use for the stripes.
Very nice hell yeah
That came out bad ass
Thanks!
How did you do the stars and how does it open? Slide or lift?
I used a laser for the stars (sorry) but you can easy accomplish something similar with a stencil and spray paint, or a dremel tool. the front lifts up, using soft-close cabinet hinges (linked below)
Well done! How did you get the stars so perfect?
Great video man. I want to get to where i can make these too.
Thanks! im sure you can make of these my friend. If you are nervous about making a big one, just make a small 1ft. flag and a box to put it on, then you can move on to the big 3ft. one when you feel comfortable. Thanks for the kind words, and good luck!
You the man!!!🇺🇸🇺🇸🇺🇸
Thanks!
Awesome build, I got a little confused; do you use the clear or white base miniwax? Thanks!
Uhh, they have changed it since I made the video, I think it was clear, but there are several options that will give you really good results
What kind of plywood did you use for the backing? I made a flag and box out of select pine and burned the outside of it but I’m having a hard time finding a piece of plywood that will match the box. Thanks!
i just used regular 1/2" plywood, you can have the employee at home depot or lowes cut it for you if you have your dimensions ready. Makes things easier than passing a 4'x8' piece of ply wood through a table saw, or setting up a circular saw cut
Nice, dude.
Thanks!
Nice job..
Thanks!
Absolutely awesome!!! Nicely done sir.
Thanks! we have a bunch of other videos I hope you check out as well :)
Did I miss the lock? If not do you have something that you recommend for that?
This particular one does not have a lock, Ill be making a "2.0" version pretty soon, it will have locks (probably RFID) and will be a much better video haha
Bad ass first video.
Know you’ve already heard this but I’d love an extended video showing the finer details.
I’d be willing to buy the written plans should you write them.
Thanks for the kind words, no need to buy plans I can supply them to you. I am going to be making a "2.0" version of this build in the next few months, that will be much more detailed, and will have more bells and whistles. so i hope you check that out, whenever it comes out
Workshop 1776 I will definitely check it out when it’s released.
Let’s exchange emails for the plans?
Jack@ws1776.com
I gotta type em up for you, but ill get them to you as soon as i can
Workshop 1776 thanks man!
Workshop 1776 I know I’m very late but could I possibly get the plans too please?
You had me at beer.
Hahaha
What are the blueprints for it do you have them blank’s with etc. I would love to build one but if you have them I would like to know them thank you
For sure!
"Bottom 6" stripes length: 36"
"Top 7" stripes length: 21.75"
Union Length: 14.25"
Union Height: 10.5"
Stripe Height: 1.5"
For the Box , Just make sure there is no overhang on the top, then .5' to 1" overhang on the other 3 sides :)
Thanks for bringing this up, ill post it in the Description for others, Rookie mistake haha
Thank you so much brother I appreciate you very much!
No worries, sorry i didnt have that in there before, I have a better "step by step" video on a 5 foot flag coming out in a week or so. Should be more helpful for building the flag portion :)
Did you cut the union stars yourself by hand?
No, I used a laser engraver that a friend of mine owns, i have seen really good ones with just a stencil and a dremel tool though.
Do you happen to have plans you could share? Any suggestions for stars if I can’t engrave them?
No plans, but the dimensions are in the description (near the bottom) as for the stars, a dremel tool will work great, or a stencil on amazon (i believe i have one linked in the description) and some paint/spray paint works well.
I liked it. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks, Im going to make a "2.0" version in the next few months, should be a better video and build haha
@@Workshop1776 - I'm thinking of something similar for bbq 'implements' ... but I liked the 'director's cut version' style of this video with accompanying beer .. I will have a look at a few of your other videos ... starting with the Noodle Board.
hahaha thanks! I made a BBQ side table you may wanna check out, (ua-cam.com/video/bG55tUzLtWo/v-deo.html) might want to take some elements from that as well. feel free to reach out on Instagram if you have any questions, Im usually more responsive on there
Well done sir, thanks
Thanks!
Could you give a list of materials and sizes? Please and thank you in advance 😊
In the description my dude
Awesome video! It came out Great! Definitely on the project list for 2020!! Subscribed!!
Thank you! let me know how yours turns out! and I hope you like our other videos as well!
Glue Up or Screw Up, It's All in the Joinery!
yup!
Nice.. what grit sand paper?
I used 220 grit
Have you tried using the wall control as a backing without the plywood?
I havnt but Ill look into it
Any new vids of how the hinges and stops were done?
Unfortunately not yet, we are in the middle of a cross country move, but one of the first videos i have planned is the 2.0 gun case, and i will make sure to highlight the hinges, and im going to be adding gas struts to support the weight of the front so it will stay open by itself.
did you use the same 3/4" plywood for the stripes?
I do not, I use 1x2 select pine from Home Depot. the 1x2's are the perfect width for a 3ft. flag. i have actually gone away from using the plywood all together, i would recommend using the select pine for the whole thing.
Thanks
Those hinges support the weight easily?
So they wont hold the front portion open, I am looking at some gas struts that will support the weight, and hold the whole thing open. Probably going to make a 2.0 version of this build, with RFID locks and some more gucci addons
What were all the wood materials you used for this project? 1x2”s for the stripes but what did you use for the box?
Tayler Bast then I’d was made from 1x4 common board and 1/4” plywood back
Workshop 1776 thank you. Appreciate the response
Tayler Bast for sure, don’t hesitate to reach out if you have any other questions
Do you think doing soft close concealed hinges would eliminate the need for the struts?
I have tried that and the weight of the front is too heavy if you want it to stay open all on it’s own
@@Workshop1776 good info, that was my concern
Wow!
Thanks!
How did u cut the stars? That’s what I’m wanting to know
Due to the popularity of DIY videos and products on the market these may as well just say “warning wooden box contains AR-15 and 9mm”
Haha ya, kinda takes away the "concealed" part of it lol. But they look nice :)
@@Workshop1776 most thieves are idiots. if i'm home the dog is gonna keep em busy long enough for me to prepare for battle and termination.
How did you do the 🌟's?
I have a friend that runs a laser engraving company, so he engraves all the stuff I make. Sorry I didnt include that in the video, it was my first one and I was completely lost
love this what does this cost fellow woodworker grew up in construction but those stars are on point
How did you do the stars? Dremel? Nice Channel - New Subscriber.
Thanks! we appreciate the support! I use a laser engraver for the stars, however I have seen people use Dremel tools or even a stencil from Amazon, and spray paint.
What kind of hinges do you suggest for this?
Cabinet Hinges - amzn.to/33FHTVc
All my materials are linked :) these worked well, next time I make one of these tho, ill be adding a gas strut to support the weight, mainly so it will stay open if I want it to.
@@Workshop1776 can you post a link to gas struts you recommend
How did you make the stars?
Laser engraver, i forgot to record it :/ it was my first video i was totally lost sorry about that
Probably stupid question how did you hang this to support the weight?
Thats a great question, i bought some heavy duty drywall anchors (48 lbs. each) and anywhere I couldnt find a stud i put on of those in.
What are the dimensions of the box? Like the height?
I measured in about an inch on the left right and bottom. Leaving the top flush with the flag. So the box would be 1 inch shorter than the flag and 2 inches skinnier, width wise. I’m traveling right now so I don’t have the dimensions with me. They might be in the description tho. Hope this helped!
dude sick f**king build! seriously. gonna try this myself. one question though why not sand before the torching? do you have to sand bc of what the torch does to the wood?
Nice! let me know how it turns out! and yes, you are going to have to sand it after torching the wood anyway, so i just wait till ive burnt it. Good luck on your build!
P.S. i have a flag video that is a better way to do the Union and glue up if you are interested
ua-cam.com/video/mdTJn4jpQwc/v-deo.html
@@Workshop1776 watching it now
I think that inspo picture is from @MrKate 2:45
Im not 100% sure what that means :)
Torch gives new meaning to the term, "sausage fingers."
hahahaha
Hello I was wondering if you could use red, blue and white paint instead of stain?
Angela Shepherd for sure! I just like the stain because you can see the wood grain underneath. Paint would work great tho!
Angela Shepherd ya probably
Ok thanks but do you think if I had watered the paint down that you would still see the wooden grain?
Do you have a finished product pic?
I have a few on my Instagram, this was my first video, I was completely lost sorry about that haha
How did you do the stars bro?
Laser engraver, i have a friend with a an engraving company.
Before watching video: Oh I can totally make one of these. After watching video: fuck.
Dang, that wasn't the intent haha Im gunna make another (better hopefully) video on one of these
Awesome flag but what about the conceal portion?
Tha flag is on hinges, and there is a box with that metal pegboard inside, sorry it was my first video and didnt really know what i was doing lol
If you need cheap clamps that work well the Harbor Freight ones do just fine. No where near as good as my Irwins but they were great when I was starting. But I would like to build one of these and this was some great inspiration for a gift for my friend who just bought a house.
Thanks! im glad i could inspire you to make a gift! Thanks for the habor freight advice, we have one here in SD but its pretty far from my house so i never go over there haha
Anyway I can buy the stars from you or do you know where I can buy them?
Unfortunately, I'm not really set up for that. I'm pretty sure Michaels sells them and if not, I would suggest is searching in you area for a local shop that used a laser or CNC machine and talking to the owner about him being a 3rd party for all your engraving work. That is what I had to do for a long time until I made enough money to buy my own laser
@@Workshop1776 thanks brother
hello! will you send these in europe? thank you.
Unfortunately shipping these has been a no go since we sent out few. We have to set up a official business account with a shipper. They are too large and heavy and the prices are really high. But when we get it figured out I’ll let you know!
What is the thickness of the stripes?
All the dimensions are in the description :) but I think they are 1.5"
What type of wood did you use? I heard you say birch for the stars portion but what about the stripes?
I have since changed everything about making these flags, I have a few videos that go more in depth on the best process. But the short answer is; use select (or premium) pine.
This is a "blackout" flag and a gun case, but this is a much better process, that yields more consistent results.\
ua-cam.com/video/8xUEwUpoY9I/v-deo.html
@@Workshop1776 that blackout flag is pretty sick! I want to build one of these and your videos will help me do that! Keep doing your thing brother!

Thanks! A friend of mine runs his own laser engraving company so i take all my stuff to him. i have seen stencils and dremel tool, also spray paint. you can even get some pre-fab stars and just glue them on.
