How to build a rustic American flag gun cabinet
Вставка

- In todays video we tried something a little different. I hope you find it entertaining. This video details how to take the American flag we showed you in previous videos, and how to turn it into a rustic gun cabinet. These cabinets are not a replacement for a gun safe and if you have small children this is not a safe way to store your firearms away from them. This was only the second time I made one of these gun cabinets and I am by no means a professional woodworker, so any tips and advice would be greatly appreciated. Thanks you for tuning in and I look forward to hearing from you in the comments.

This is by far my favorite video on the internet! Keep up the good work Chattley Builds!
Nick Bromley thank you man! Im glad you like it!
Great intro!!! Amazing craftsmanship!!!
Dude I love it!
Good video! Forget the pocket screws. 1/4 inch luan. Wood glue the stripes. Use a Betsy Ross stencil and paint it. Forget the 2x11 back. Use 1/2 sanded plywood.
Oh and forget the polyethylene. Use magnets!
The smile that intro gave me earned you a subscriber, that was great
Came for a gun safe, was not expecting a SNL skit XD
Wow pitch black video so excited I can't wait
Sometimes just listening is all we need
A little too much for a start.... BUT SO FREAKING FUNNY! Frank?
LOVE IT! The video and the build LOL🤣
Love it
I need to get one of these done
Dude that was awesome.. I just started making some flags of my own, but this one is amazing..
Thank you! Once you feel comfortable making regular flags make one of these to challenge yourself and let me how it turns out!
@@JCBuilds sounds like a plan..I too just started my channel and started filming random projects. The one I feel most comfortable with is the flag..😁
Dude i love the video. Seriously well done
love the intro i was not ready for that LOLOL
That is awesome man
Thank you for the kind words! Stay tuned! Some awesome stuff on the way
What length pocket screws did you use to connect the 1x2s that way? I make wood flags all the time but never thought about connecting the stripes like that as I assumed they would be too narrow. Love the intro and your builds. Keep up the great work!
My pocket screw assortment is. 75, 1, 1.25, and 1.5. For this 1.25 worked. I have the pocket hole jig from HF which has 2 different angles for thinner woods.
Very Nice ! Very well done video and great explanation. You deserve far more views . I think they are coming .
Thank you for the kind words! I have more content coming, hopefully the views will too!
So I’m looking for some ideas on another gun case, well done. This looks like a home run video for you 😀😀
Thank you for the kid words! Have fun building!
Awesome intro you got a new subscriber in me for sure 🤣
Do you do giveaways often? You gained my subscription. I like your builds
I typically don't do give aways however I do donate to local fundraisers. They will put my flags in raffles and donate the generated money
Great video, what did you use for a hinge for the top stripes to hold that section up?
Pocket holes, and zero clearance cabinet hinges from lowes
What CNC machine do you have and with what software? I am in the market for one and basically want to just put it together, set it up, and go.
Flag looks AWESOME by the way!!!
Shapeoko 3 XL. Super easy to put together. I bought the Dewalt 611. I plan on having a video breaking down my cnc machine for people looking to get into it. With some pros and cons. Stay tuned
Love the build man. Wondering if you could share your carbide file on the union.
I'm working on publishing multiple CAD files that will work with carbide motion and other cad machines. With a variety of bits
I'll follow just bc of this haha
Awesome video
Thank you for the kind words!!
What Router bit did you use for the stars? Thanks, Gary
That roll was hilarious and realistic. I was expecting him to open the door to little kids selling candy or trick or treating.
Just that damn mailman haha
Lmao.... omg... love your opening act.
Thank you! It was alot of fun filming
I’m making one ASAP!
Get to work!!! Let me know how it turns out!
I already make flags. But never thought of making the box and especially the 3 door cabinet idea !
I’ve tried making this, I’m having hell with the hinges lol any tips? I just can’t seem to line them up like yours they just seem out of wack.
:(
I had trouble with them too since I'm no cabinet maker. I sanded the edges to fit flush. It's just trial and error for us amateurs
So what hinges did you use bud?
I used standard European full overlay hinges.
Did you have issues with your doors lining up perfectly once you installed the hinges? I had everything square on the box before installing the hinges and now I’m having a heck of a time getting everything to line up flush. It looked like you just pushed each door flush with the cabinet and then installed the hinges where they sat vs. measuring where the holes should be for the screws to secure the hinge to the frame. Is that the trick? It’s driving me insane....even after using the adjustments on the hinges themselves
I had that issue too. I ended up needing to make a new union because the pilot hole with the fostner bit wasn't where it needed to be. You may just need to simply sand the edges. Rounding over the inside edges will also help. When you close the doors see what is in the way and sand it.
@@JCBuilds thanks man! I ended up swapping out the hinges for the Richelieu soft closing full overlay hinge with the clip top. It gave me much more play for adjusting and I was able to get the union and top stripes to line up well! Unfortunately, Lowe’s was short on them so I’m still waiting for one more to be able to do my long stripes. Will see how everything lines up and as you said do some sanding if needed, but these hinges really allowed for more adjustment. Even though they are a little more expensive, I definitely recommend them. Really appreciate you getting back to me and I modeled my build off of yours so thanks for sharing how you put it together!
@@SteelXray hey could you leave more info on the hinges? I went to the Richelieu site and there are many of them
Any locks or latches? RFID or Fingerprint?
That cabinet looks amazing. Is there anyway I can have you build one for my father i don't have the skill or the money to buy him one. But I would really like to surprise him for his birthday in January:)
Unfortunately I'm not selling these. However I'm sure you can find one on etsy with some browsing
@@JCBuilds I live in Ohio I can’t find anyone who can are would be able to do it you have any suggestions
Love the intro
Thak you! We decided funny skits for intros will be our way to make things more fun and entertaining
Great intro!
Shā-pō-kō
Could you use stain rather than burning the wood?
Sure you can use stain, however you won't get the same grain effect. I recommend practicing on scrap wood to see the difference
Dark burn on outside edges with a light burn on the rest then use minwax red, blue and white stain
Are your stripes 2in or 1.5
Too keep things easy I buy dimensional lumber at Lowes or home depot. They are labeled as 1x2 but the actual size is 0.75x1.5
I finally was able to make this cabinet but the measurements does sit correctly with the flag. Where the measurements changed?
What measurements were off? Nothing was changed, if anything I may have accidentally added the wrong number somewhere
@@JCBuilds the cabinet ends. It could be me. But I followed what you said and the cabinet part don't fit the flag.
Where'd you find the CNC cutter?
I saw another woodworker locally using one and I reached out. So I found one on Amazon. Search RC 45711
@@JCBuilds Thank you so much Will! I'll check it out! Will I be able to find the machine there too?
The machine is called Shapeoko 3 XL. You can find them on the carbide3D website. Just Google Shapeoko 3 and it should take you where you need to go!
@@JCBuilds Nice! I'll check it out!
do you have a cut list available
Cut list starts at approximately 3:24 of the video. Thanks for watching
@@JCBuilds thank you so much. i will post a pic when finished
@@JCBuilds did any corrections get done after it was built?
Dude why TF! Does this video not have 1M+ views! Touché bro! That shit was funny!
I appreciate the kind words. I am wondering the same thing! Patiently waiting for this to trend on UA-cam.
What about people who are working with hand tools and very few options, incl no money... Lol will u do one for building one with scrap wood on a budget for disabled veteran families? Lol
Shit is dope bro
Thank you for the kind words!!
is it wrong im building one of these for my AK-47 and not my an AR??
Absolutely not! America is a melting pot. That's what it's all about!
Team America in the background lol
Great movie. Adding that song felt like the American thing to do for this skit
How much you charge to make one and ship it to me
I am not selling these cabinets. This video is a guide to help people build their own.
could i pay you to make me one of these????
How much for a box?
I unfortunately do not sell these at the moment. This video was made to help other make one on their own!
@@JCBuilds sounds good I will take your advice and move forward.
Will this work even if I don't want a American flag as the picture frame?
Sure it will work with any design you want. Get creative!
@@JCBuilds thanks
Do you sell these
I do not see these. But made this so people can make their own
I do not know if anyone see these post but I completely built this flag except the hinges. My question is the measurements on the side. It seems like is shorter than the actual flag it self. We're any changes made?
Hahahaha. Out of control!😂😂😂
Thank you for the kind words! New content is on the way. The new baby is just an added obstacle
OMG!!! you are hilarious. I almost pissed my self😂😂 awesome build 🇺🇸
Thank you. I'm glad you enjoyed the video!
I did it with the woodglut plans.
great intro but no need to show you marking wood and slowly cutting it. Make the whole video interesting like the first 2 minutes and you are onto something.
I agree. We are thinking about moving away from instructable videos for every post. Make it more fun
