    I convey this exact point to all customers who purchase a ceramic coating package and I tell them..if they get their car wet from sprinklers or even right after it rains... they must! wash and dry the vehicle immediately to prevent water spotting. no matter what coating, sealant or wax you apply hard water and the sun doesn't care and will etch your paint. you can use a descaling wash and light clay bar to remove new water spots but know that coating your car comes with extra care to consider. You really have to want to take these extra steps if you're considering a coating. personally, unless customer demands they want a coating. ...I advise that I can save them money by just claying, doing a quick light polish and applying a quality ceramic spray sealant or wax instead. Iditarod me telling them they can save almost 700$ sells them on this .. especially if I'm going v to be maintaining their car and topping up the protective sealant when it starts to deteriorate. Ceramic coatings are great but if one is paying me weekly bi-weekly or monthly to clean their vehicles..a ceramic coating is completely unnecessary. save your money . decon the paint do a light polish and apply a durable temporary spray like Turtle Wax hybrid solutions ceramic spray , Seal n Shine or Griots 3 in 1 ceramic spray wax. they are all no more than 20$ and last a good 3 to 6 months.. I personally choose Griots because one you prep the vast and apply it on dry paint. the next washes you can use one spray per panel and ise as a drying aide to keep vehicles protected indefinitely. People need to really think things through with some great advice from their detailers. and of you as a detailer aren't informing your customers about these potential negative outcomes... you should leave the industry.
    thanks for sharing your poor experience to inform people. hope you polished the car again and it looks amazing.

    It’s been super hard keeping my S8 V10 clean, but I’m so glad I never wasted my money on a coating that it’s only benefit at this point is quicker washes. Y washes are already quick enough I don’t even touch dry, all air

    Ok. I can tell by the shape and size of those spots whatever “coating “ you used doesn’t look to be high quality (sorry😢) water spots are the achilles heel of real ceramics. However, a qualified detailer will ask you qualifying questions before installing a coating and that tells him which coating to use- I use four main coatings, one of which sheets water instead of only beading. Beading only is a disaster for someone in your situation . You can use a strip wash to pull all that off and it will probably kill that coating easily enough. If you still park outside and are prone to getting hit with sprinklers install a sheeting sealant at least. Arte de Shine nano gloss sealant is a good selection for your situation. Prep is key to have it work well. Hope this helps out!

      Hey, thank you for commenting and explaining why it’s important to get a certain certain ceramic coating for the water spots… good to know!
      I also battle with water spotting with crappy water- am I better off with some kind of wax or polymer sealant? I’m open to any LSP, whatever works best to give me more time to clean off water spots…
      Thanks

    As commented i’d also question the integrity of the coating and whoever applied it. The paintwork looked quite dull and swirled. A proper install would always involve full paint prep before applying the sealant to ensure proper bonding. This doesn’t look to be a quality job at all

    A few thoughts: 1) 100% correct - ceramic coatings are susceptible to spotting as you stated. 2) The coating on your vehicle seems to be weak or to have failed. When you were hosing down the car, there seemed to be weak hydrophobic qualities (near failure in a few spots). 3) You might consider testing a portion of your vehicle (side panel). Ceramic coat 1/2, use whatever protection on the other half. 4) Griot's 3-in-1 spray sealant is pretty easy to apply if you want go a different route. Good luck!

    If you think you can ceramic coat the car, just park it overnight on a regular basis with hot sun baking, next to city hard water sprinklers, you can’t expect any degree of ceramic or graphene to last and/or protect your paintwork in the manner you described.
    Ceramic coatings are susceptible to environmental degradation just like any form of protection.
    Depending on how you maintain it, the speed of degradation accelerates as well.
    That’s simply not the purpose or what ceramic coating is suppose to do.

    Hey, came across your video and I also live in an San Jose. I was ASE master auto tech for many years and now I do professinal detailing. From the loom of your paint you didn't have a high quality ceramic coating and also the water here in SJ is very hard and has high mineral content and it can leave water spots in just a few min of water being on the paint on a sunny day. Using an acid based mineral deposit remover (3D is not that great) is the first step to try and remove the water spots, but at your level of spotting you need a light polish and reapplication of the ceramic coating. You prob only need to do the flat surfaces like the hood, roof and trunk. I. The future if you want to avoid the spotting you need a topper coating like Geyon Skin over your ceramic coating. The topper is specifically designed to force the water beads that the ceramic coating produces to slide of the paint. The two go together like peanut butter and jelly. As I mentioned I also live in San Jose and deal with the same problem as a detailer and I have done tons of ceramic coatings on cars with toppers and they don't have this issue. If you're interested drop me a message and bring your car by sometime and I can help you out

    Ceramic coatings are prone to water spots due to the nature of the layer that it does to repel the water and that’s why professional detailers recommend using a topper coating every few months as I have coated my suv and using strong ph level from being acidic and alkaline I don’t have that issue with water spots

    • @spec_egg

    Anything that causes beading will result in hard water spots. The CC did its job and protected the actual paint underneath. Maybe try a wax on top of the CC that sheets more than beads?

    • @blackpillfitness9136
      @blackpillfitness9136 2 роки тому

      Was gonna say that beading seems to be the desired effect for a lot of people. But what they probably want is water sheeting, for this reason, and for other reasons as well.

    • @spec_egg
      @spec_egg  2 роки тому +1

      You’re right. It’s the properties of the ceramic coating that causes the beading and it’s just doing it’s job, but those ill-informed (ie. me) wouldn’t know unless they know. Hoping this video can help those out there make informed decisions.
      And yes, I did eventually put a thick layer of wax on top of the leftover ceramic coating and it seems to help with the hard water situation

    Had gtechniq csl and also exo v4, same thing happened to my car… these coatings need to be maintained every week. I left my car alone outside for a month or two and spots etched onto my car. I figured I might as well just do a spray wax every month and it’s the same thing as getting a coating done. Those coatings need a “topper” anyway to last the “claimed” 3 years

    • @Retired_at21
      @Retired_at21 2 місяці тому

      Ceramic coatings need to be maintained you don't need to do all that called using an acid wash called CarPro Descale And if it hasn't been sitting for that long used car spotless 2.0. You're gonna get water spots regardless when you get your car coated or not. you're trading mechanically removing it versus chemically removing it which in hand reduces scratching and maring. Ceramic coatings aren't bad your detailer didn't inform you of all the information about ceramic coatings. But also no offense do some research when you install something on your car, you would have learned about the pros and cons. It's impossible to stop minerals from drying on a surface.

  • @josephdefreitas56
    @josephdefreitas56 Рік тому

    Depending on the coating and age of the coating and how well it was applied, it can certainly be susceptible to hard water etching.
    I have had a lot of success in the past using white vinegar to remove the hard water spots. Wash the car as usual and then dry it off. Begin with a 50/50 solution of pure white vinegar and distilled or de-mineralized water and spray liberally over each panel. Do one panel at a time. With a clean microfiber cloth spray some of the solution onto the cloth and gently wipe the panel down. You may need to repeat this process a few times or increase the strength of the solution. Leave the solution on the panel for a few minutes but do not let it dry. Once the spots are removed rewash the entire car with a neutral PH shampoo. And then top up the coating. This process has worked for me almost every time in the past.

    no ceramic coat on the market can be free or fight hard water spots. instead they are very sensitive to water spots because of the beading behavior (drops turn to magnified glasses in the sun)that is why they need also a topper over the ceramic to fight water spots and give time to remove. Is user error or/and misinformation about the ceramic coating abilities.

    If you don’t look after the paintwork it will spot whatever protection you have. It’s very naive to expect any coating to protect your from lack of care. Park next to hard water sprinklers and leave it in the sun and you could coat your car in teflon and still get water spots

    Well you get all this horrible news about coatings but the truth of it all is atleast the coating is taking the hit and not your clear coat which from factory isn't much so the peace of mind is atleast you can correct the coating again if you have to without eating into your clear coat so much again. So even though a ceramic coating isn't always gonna keep it looking like a mirror if not looked after it still did its job of protecting the paint underneath from the etchings. So in a nut shell id rather my cars still have a coating as its going to make your original paint last longer than a car that hasn't which is always being buffed cause eventually you will have burnt threw your clear coat and then you have worse dramas than water spots haha.
