WATER SPOT REMOVAL on a Ceramic Coating | What Product Works Best?

- Anthony finds himself in yet ANOTHER Waterspot Removal situation! In today's video, we remove waterspots from a CERAMIC Coated vehicle. We'll compare multiple "Coating Safe" products to find which is best for the situation.
Water spots can wreak havoc on a vehicles paintwork! Often times leaving more than just a "spot" on the surface. If left for too long, those minerals within the water can actually etch a vehicles clearcoat and leave permanent spots in the finish. Ceramic coatings are a great way to reduce the chance of an etching, but they aren't bulletproof.
The ceramic coating on this BMW was still affected by high mineral water from a sprinkler. Thus leaving a TON of spots on top of the coating. So we thought we would create a video showing how to treat water spots on a coating from LEAST aggressive methods to MOST aggressive. Our findings is that machine polishing with RUPES Uno Advanced was the most successful with the tradeoff of diminishing the coating (but replacing it with more ceramic from the product).
Wheel acid is still an affective choice, but arguably the most dangerous for a DIYer. Gtechniq W9 seems to be the sweet spot for effectiveness, safely, and ease of us. So as always, we hope this video helps you with your waterspot nightmares and you can find peace in seeing a positive result!

Carpro Descale works. But I think that is more for light fresh water spots.
Carpro spotless 2.0 worked well for me. Definitely recommend it. Don't get the 1.0 version though, a lot of bad reviews on that version.
Great video Anthony, thank you ! Do you think Meguiars Wheel Brightner would work ?
Thanks for the demo!
Watched a water spot removal video from a very well known detailer right before this one. According to his video, machine polishing will make it look like the minerals have disappeared but they will most likely reappear in the future. His take is to use a water spot remover 1st and then follow up with a polisher. Either way, both were very informative videos!!
DIY detail Ivan correct?
@@antoniou5 correct.
I would agree with that. For best result, hit it with a mineral deposit remover first, then polish
I learned this very late. I polished my car twice and today i saw same water spots again. I will wash my car with Car Pro Descale and polish again. I hope it will be last.
@@kadirtas25 i do have descale as well hopefully works and spots wont appear after i polish.
FYI...Yvan also touched on this topic, check it out about his thoughts on polishing water spots? It also dropped today or yesterday...
Yup, and he said that polishing drives the minerals further into the paint. But these guys at TRC don't reply to any comments. These guys are tone Def when it comes to YT comments.
I’m fighting this now and looking at options, so this is helpful!
I think for me I will try W9 first and if more is needed I may try rupes.
Now the real test is to put this out in the sun and see which section of the hood comes back with water spots. Heating up the panel will be the true test on what really works.
True.
I just finished off my bottle of W-9 and it did a good job for me. Thank you for this very informative video!
I just tried it and did not work. Did you do anything special?
@@thugsy15 the W-9 will remove the minerals from the spot. If the spot etched in the paint now it is safe to polish. If the water spot etched deep into the clear coat you can enhance the s as spot with polishing but it will always be there.
Needed this!
The guys at DIY Detail mentioned that you can't polish out water spots. That your'e driving them deeper for them them to appear later on a hot day.
Yay my order for w9 is coming in Monday!!!!! My 4Runner is caked with water spots
How did it go?
Interesting how the vinagre active or reset the coating and make the water bounce back !
Sometime experiments like this we can discovery how other products work !
UNO on a wool pad WILL adversely affect the coating, regardless of if you’re replacing it with a lower-standard of SiO2.
💯
For sure, Wool pad has some power.
What polishing pad did you use with the Uno?
Hi there , great video! Will a second application of W9 remove more?
You just answered my question in the last minute, thanks.
Curious if the blue eagle edgeless 500gsm are the same blue as the Amazon special 450gsm 6 pack?
why did you not use uno pure ? wouldn't it have optically removed the waterspots without leaving something behind and changing the coating behaviour? And second yvan lacroix always says you have to remove the minerals before polishing otherwise your just grinding the minerals into the clear coat and they will reappear after some time and temperature change ? :)
This needs addressed......
Sud Factory Paint and Glass water spots remover works perfectly!
Guys, When will you start selling your products in Brazil?
That coatings water behavior didnt look amazing to me, but it still looked alright. I will say those water spots definitely affected the coating negatively in the water behavior.
I am trying to get water spots from my powdercoated Alloy window frames. I managed to remove some with Clay but scared to use anything elese. Suggestions please. Clay is taking a long time (Edit - this is house windows)
Ordered W9 cos of this video. Just tried it earlier, no bueno. Spots did not even budge.
Thanks for saving me from buying it. They almost had me.
Gtechniq make a lot of overhyped garbage
Odd how you do circles when Everyone says not to
Was always under the impression from other vids you arent really supposed to clay a coated vehicle, unless absolutely necessary…is there truth to that and will synthetic clay damage a coating and its durability?
It would be good to see how Carpro Spotless 2.0 does.
Carpro 2.0 was junk for me. I tried to use it. Wish I can send it back
20:52 why not another, dedicated MDR video, on test panel, where let sit for 24+h? 🤷♂
you also could control the level of accumulated deposits, if you were to place it at your sprinkler (maybe even for longer than this customer did)...
Can W-9 be used on a waxed car without remove the wax or do I need to rewax vehicle?
You’ll likely need to rewax your car. The SDS For W9 doesn’t list a pH, but it does say that it contains acetic acid (vinegar).
what ceramic coatings on the car?..um... Uno Advanced 😅. you polished away the coating and replaced it with the uno. only question is can you oanel prep and ceramic coat over Uno Advanced?
What type of pad was used with the Uno advanced?
Wool pad you just toasted that coating, rupes specifically requires to use a white pad for the purpose of this video
Mdr didnt work for me, I let it sit for 2 hours
May I ask what the link foe Wheel acid cleaner
Just acid bath the whole car. Can't have water spots if you don't have paint.
If your using vinger you should of use the clay 1st then apply tge vinger.
Hi
Polishing isn’t a smart way of removing water spots. You need to use a mineral deposit remover first.
Finally someone knows their stuff
Wheel Acid did not harm the coating, so much for that W9 push. Wheel Acid > W9.
Can we please, please, please throw those garbage hex lights in the trash? I will personally pay for some CREE lights and fly out there with Mike F to replace that junk!
😂 It’s been nearly 5 years since you last came to Boise, I’d say it’s about time we gave you another tour!
💡9:02 Gtechniq's instructions for W9 say:
..."wipe onto an area no bigger than 2ft x 2ft"
"Buff immediately..."
"Re-wash your car after use"
9:29 when i asked Gtechniq's support what do they actually mean by "re-wash", whether with : water, or ONR/rinseless, or IPA, or shampoo?
she literally said "re-shampoo"!
which i find wrong, because i've tried shampoo and rinseless, but could not see difference. only benefit of no risk inducing new water-spots from normal shampoo wash, when used rinseless.
Megs d140 diluted.
Pro Note ♤ stir shake or agitate any liquid b4 use 2:55
I thought a Ceramic coating was going to save me from water spots. ??
Not if the beads got dried under the sun. Found out the hard way last week end. I now think ceramic coating is pointless. If I cant remove spots by chemical then they will polish which could remove coating so then they would reapply. Now wtf was the ceramic coating for.
for beads!
Totally agree! Same thing happened to my Black Audi A3. Sticking with a traditional wax in future.@@thugsy15
Did you know muriatic acid can be Caustic in the hands of a 13:25 rookie
Not knocking Gtechniq but it is way overpriced! Griots water spot remover is much cheaper at $13.99 for a 22oz bottle versus $22.95 for Gtec's 16oz bottle. I can buy lunch with the savings and get the same performance.
The fact u do circular motions makes me question ur expertise
One of the first here, lol
