Part2: CR512 Cam Swap / 131ci StreetGlide / Fullsac Header Pipe / APE / Hot Up Kit

  • Following on from part 1, I remove the Rocket Cams 544 Camshaft & install the ever impressive Cyclerama CR512 Camshaft.
    With supply issues still taking time to get some products, the customer has decided to go away from the initial choice of a RINEHART Racing full header system.
    He has now decided to use the Touring MX Header pipe from FULLSAC Performance. I have never used this header pipe before so I am very keen to see how it performs.
    The header pipe retains to use of the factory heat shields for a stealthy clean fit & finish.
    Everything from part 1 stays the same in the engine. The engine is the bolt on Screamin' Eagle 131ci Stage IV kit, The FUELING OE+ Cam plate, APE High Capacity Lifters, hand ported & textured 64mm intake manifold, APE 6.2gps fuel injectors & the Rinehart Racing Slip-on's.
    The bike produced a little more than I expected, mostly due to the Fullsac Header pipe as the numbers were up slightly from what I normally see the 512 Camshaft do in the 131 engine.
    The bike feels exactly how it should now with a huge hit from the bottom of the rev range & stays strong right through the entire rpm range until the limiter.
    The compression ratio of the 131 engine sits at roughly 10.7:1 without touching it which is very reserved if you ask me so to get these sort of results with just a camshaft is absolutely amazing. The bike is very well mannered down low, easy to ride in traffic & does not get hot.
    If you're after a reliable big cube engine that makes strong smooth power EVERYWHERE, you need this combination! Softail or Tourer, you won't be disappointed.

    I have a 2017 SGS and did a Harley Davidson 128 Big Bore Stage 4 kit. Started off with the factory header pipe that comes with the kit which produced 107 HP/117 TQ with V&H slip-ons. After watching many Moonshine Harley Davidson videos (they do some impressive engine builds), they used the Fullsac MX header pipe a lot in their builds. I swapped out and it dyno'd 127 HP/138 TQ. That is using Harley's 128 Big Bore kit with the SE8-517 cam that comes with it, SE oil pump, SE clutch and SE Pro Street and Auto Tuner. They techs said I could get more going with Dynojet Powervision tuner and D&D 2-1 exhaust but this works just fine for me. Highly recommend the Fullsac MX pipe. Sounds amazing, get a lot of compliments of the sound. I usually ride without the radio and just listen to the exhaust because it sounds that good.

    Impressive results with that CR512 cam in the 131 engine configuration. Besides very nice peak numbers, the curves (specially torque) is excellent. That Fulsac exhaust helped out too. Customer will no doubt have a big smile while riding this bike. Thank you for making, sharing this video.
    I'm considering taking my 114 to either 128 (S&S cylinder/piston kit) or going the 131 route but not with the HD SE 131 Kit (which uses the stock stroke 4.500" flywheel...aka: 114/117 crankshaft); would go the S&S 131 Stroker Kit (4.625" stroke x 4.250" bore). My thinking is to go with the S&S 540 Big Bore Torque Cam and perhaps some upgrade(s) to the heads. Also like the T-Man Performance 130" Kit which uses the stock 114/117 stroke. Longer cylinders (0.300") cylinders into the case help support pistons/rings when at the bottom all the way down.
    Tom M., So. Cal. '21RGS Stage-2 114 (full S&S 465c cam chest kit) stock 10.5:1 cr & heads, stock intake/TB/injectors; S&S 2-1 Sidewinder Exhaust; Trask M8 Checkvent; Fuel Moto # 3956 Air Cleaner (w/stock outer HD Ventilator cover) and tuned with Dynojet PV3-B (Map by Fuel Moto). For my style of riding and mostly 2-up (along the beach and up in the hills with slow speed curves), this combo works well; pulls nicely from just off idle to well past 4k rpm. And she presently averages 46.4 mpg cruising down the highway at 75mph. I have a S&S 55mm Intake Manifold (ported by Ward) and a Darkhorse Crankworks Man-o-War Compensator, but haven't installed yet.

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  Рік тому +3

      Yeah that's definitely a good option to go with if you decide to use that flywheel setup.
      I would not recommend the S&S 540 Camshaft though. I have heard many reports of underwhelming performance from it.
      So much so that I have had 2 guys that have those cams fitted from other dealers and they have called me wanting to swap that cam out for the 512

    Just watched this video again, and again I must write: Nice choice on the CR512 cam & Fulsac exhaust head pipe (and mufflers, baffles). You definitely matched the valve events of this cam to the cubic inch engine & compression ratio (both static & dynamic) and air flow management characteristics (Intake manifold/Throttle body/injectors size / Heads / exhaust system), plus tuned her right in perfectly. Well done.
    Cam Question (for my build): What cam(s) would you recommend, suggest?
    I have a 2021RGS 114 w/RDRS, stock 10.5:1 cr, presently running a Stage-2 upgrade (S&S 465c performance-torque cam; full S&S cam chest kit) and just received my Carillo pistons (4.125" bore; 10.75:1 cr w/stock heads) for a 120 cu. in. build (stock 4.500" stroke crank x 4.125" bore...for 120 cu.in.).
    I plan on replacing the stock HD plastic intake manifold with a S&S 55mm Intake (mild ported by Ward), upsizing to 5.5 injectors, Level-A type Heads (stock heads redone by Branch & O'Keefe) and retaining the S&S 2-1 Sidewinder I'm running now. Tune is Dynojet PV3-B with map by Lucas at Fuel Moto. Riding style is 2-up, conservative, some hills/curves, and loving the torque of the S&S 465 cam in 114 now. Looking for a bit more than what a HD 117 has without going big cubic inches (128, 130, 131 or new S&S 132 top end kit)...hence choose 120 cu. in. Ventilating crankcase with Trask M8 checkvent. Running HD fan on the Oil Cooler.
    Thinking about the 485 cam from Moonshine Harley (Nashville, Tennessee, USA) but don't know enough yet about this new cam. They also have a new 492 cam. I believe both cams are ground by Comp Cams for Moonshine Harley Performance (MHP). Thanks!

      Now to be clear, I'm not saying the cams are trash. I'm only saying they didn't deliver the expected results.

I'm at stage 1 but looking at the 585 cams from S&S. But after you're build on that 131 the cams you threw in were mids if I remember. I will go 124 later from the 103, but I need that rush ... 585 S & S or go an mid Amdrews cam ? I hate people pulling away from me top end as well... fml
    Great vids from an Aussie mate 👌 cheers

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  Рік тому +1

      Hmmm tricky spot you're in at the moment. I'm not a fan of the S&S 585 Cams. They sound ok at idle and have a good low to mid section but that's it.
      If you're after more mid to top end power you should be considering something like the SE259E cams but they require bigger valve springs and an increase in compression.
      Something like the SE211 came will bolt into your 103 and provide more top power but will greatly soften the bottom end up. That's not a big deal if you always ride at 3000rpm and up though.

      A good full length 2-1 system would have made a little extra torque off the bottom and carried some more HP from the mid range on.

      (Not directed at you, but most people in general when it comes to HP)
