- Starting with most badass model offered from Harley-Davidson & adding the most badass engine kit with a badass aftermarket camshaft.....WHY NOT!?
This customer knew exactly what he wanted when he walked in.
Because the SE 131 kit offers a relatively mild compression ratio (around 10.7:1) It remains a great engine combo that provides longevity, performance & street cred. If you are a frequent viewer on my channel you will know that I almost always replace the SE 517 Camshaft that comes in the kit.
The reason for this is simple, it just doesn't perform as good as other options out there. My personal choice for a drop in cam for the 131 is the CycleRama CR512. Wes Brown (from CycleRama) has designed & ground this camshaft around the stock comp ratio of the 131 as well as the cylinder head flow characteristics which is why it performs so well. On top of that it sounds so much better than the SE517.
This video also shows just how much the air filter & exhaust system can effect the tune. In a recent video (link below) I built & tuned StreetGlide with the 131 using the CR512 Camshaft along with the SE Extreme ventilator & an after market header pipe (Fullsac Performance). For the CVO I started with that exact same tune & the results speak for themselves.
I try to show a little more than just engine building this time round with some footage of the Ape hangers being installed.
A few other accessories were fitted to this bike that aren't shown like the Derby Cover, Sissybar & rack & Klock Werks screen.

Insanely beautiful bike. My favorite from Harley to date.
What a BEAUTIFUL bike ..
Remember the CVO RG that was that dark blue with the nickel chrome or whatever it was … most beautiful thing I ever seen
An amazing looking machine... and a you-beaut motor to boot..
Love the unwrapping Cam and chuck straight in the bin moment 😂
Thanks for the support mate! 👊🏻
Yeah I thought I'd throw that clip in there for a laugh. Glad you enjoyed it.
The personal touches are what sets them apart from the others. These vids are awesome. There's been some quick af hogs heading down the range for a while now. Keep em coming mate!
Cheers mate! 👊🏻 You'll have to come back up for a ride one day mate and catch up. I missed you last time.
My number one favorite Harley of all time and I will own one one day , hopefully sooner , rather than later.
oh my god.... pucking 131!!! i ride the road glide limited cvo yellow tail . your bike absolutely beautiful
Awesome build on Harley Flagship CVO Road Glide, that's what my dream bike would look like, 😍😍congrats to the owner one big smile on the dial
That’s a way better bar setup than T bars. Love it!
Bar and risers look dumb or i used to think so until I tried it.
That was awsome Great to see some ozzy builds on UA-cam..one sweet looking Ride...Be Good to see more builds or footage from your channel ....

Thank-you Mr. Miller. I love your videos!
Thanks mate, glad you're enjoying them 👌🏻
Nice personalised cruiser. Can't wait for the Hi Comp 131 build. 👍🇦🇺
Starting on that this week coming mate! I'm keen as too!
Hey man,
Just came accross your channel and subscribed 👍. Nice work, beautiful bike. I have the same year CVO RG in blue steel / smoked chrome and love it. Bonus, i am also in Australia (Sydney). About to look up your shop shortly.
Ride safe
Thanks for watching & supporting the channel. Much appreciated. We're are in Toowoomba QLD
Love that paint set ..Motor sounds sweet ..👍🏻🇦🇺
My favorite part was when you opened up the SE cam and put it in the trash 😂😂😂
😆
Awesome! Looks great.
Great job on build. The bike looks awesome. To bad you couldn't talk them into upgrading the exhaust system. Those extra ponies and foot stompers will be missed if he comes up against another one of your builds. But, the bike looks and runs great. I am sure the customer will be pleased. FYI the A/F curve looks fantastic. Very nice tune Mr.T. 👍looking 😎
Thanks mate, yeah unfortunately he wanted what he wanted in regards to the exhaust system.
Thanks for the awesome feedback mate 👌🏻 really appreciated 💯
Beautiful bike
Thanks Mate!
stunning.
Great vid as always!
What exhaust was used in this build?
My blue steel is currently getting the 131 w\cr512 cam and tab performance headers\slip-ons (zombie baffles) and will be tuned with power vision.
Should I expect similar numbers to this bike?
This build is running the factory headers with the cat removed and has the 4.5" S&S Slip On's.
You should see closer to 140hp with your exhaust system and possibly 150ft/lbs
@@MasterTechMiller thanks Appreciate it!
Keep up the good work!
Will do!! Every try woods 77x or feuling 592?
No not yet
That is a cracker bike, the Orange CVO is a standout.
Awesome build and video!! 😃
What kind of highway pegs and mounts?
I have a 2022 SG CVO with chopped engine guard. The dealer don't have mounts that fits the chopped version.
I can't remember exactly but I will find out. I know for certian they are genuine Harley though.
@@MasterTechMiller - Any luck with the investigation ...? 😎
Great video! I have a 2019 Roadking with the 131 Crate engine. Recommended 483...512 or wait for the 480mt? Thank you?
The new 480MT would hard to go past in the 131ci. I would definitely wait for that one.
@@MasterTechMiller Thank you for the reply. I'll try to get a 480mt! Thanks again!
@nkleiner728 No worries mate. Let me know how it goes
So between the 512 and the 480 MT in a crate 131 what do you feel is going to make the 480MT the winner? I'm having a hard time deciding on which cam to get.
@@nkleiner728 it's going to come down to how you ride & what your expectations are of the bike. Can you tell me a little more about what you expect the bike to perform like & more about your riding style
Hi Tommy, another great video. Questions. I'm looking at doing a progressive power build on my '22-FXLRS. Looking for linear torque & HP readings. Could you recommend the best available pipe, throttle body tuner & cam to eventualy merge with an APE 128ci kit?
Freedom Radical radius pipes, 55mm intake manifold, 6.2gps injectors, CR485 Cam.
That combo in the 114ci will provide an awesome torque curve from the 1500rpm right up to 5500rpm. Expected HP from that combo on the 114ci is around 125hp & 130ft/lbs
Using all those parts with a 128ci APE would produce around 140hp & 145ft/lbs
Thanks Tomny, same advice for a 117?
Absolutely
Very nice content. Do you have to remove the fairing to put on handle bars?
Thank you
Yes, removing the fairing is necessary.
@@MasterTechMiller Thank you
Nice bike
Mr Miller have you ever done the cr483 in a 131?
No, not yet.
I'm sure it won't be long & I'll be doing one though.
@@MasterTechMiller ua-cam.com/video/p_XyL_w8gdg/v-deo.html
@MasterTechMiller looks good I can't wait to see what you can do with it
I’m looking at this kit , why not use the 515 and use the 512 instead . So curious
The kit comes with the SE8-517. It has been designed for the 131ci kit with the CNC ported heads. The SE8-515 which was the old stage 3 cam was designed for 117ci builds back in the day.
In my opinion the SE Cams are very reserved in their performance capabilities, perhaps due to trying to maintain a 50state compliance when used with the SE street tuner etc.
The aftermarket camshafts do not have to obide by the EPA regulations like SE do they are able to get more performance from them.
I know there are some guys out there getting relatively good results with the SE cams but they do not sound anywhere near as good as aftermarket cams due to the Lobe separation angle differences.
sorry if i missed it, what head pipe and cannon set up on this one? im doing mine next month and dont want to make that mistake.
Stock header with S&S 4.5" Slip On's
How are the stock bottom ends holding up with the big bore kits?
Seem to be holding up just fine. I only reccomend the welded crank option for guys I know are going to be drag racing alot, doing skids & wheelies, generally giving the bike a hard time.
For must customers they want a huge big bore kit purely for the sake of having one & never ride the bike to its full potential so there is no need to install a welded crank.
@@MasterTechMiller Thanks as always great info, great channel! What tuner are you using?
@@RGHD912 direct link USB key from Technoresearch
@@MasterTechMiller It make sense, you’re are definitely a Master Tech!
Hey tommy don’t throw that cam out it’s steel we save our steel in the shop and take it to scrap yard And use the money for barbecues lol
Hahaha we do too mate, plus we save and sell old batteries to the recycle guys. Heaps of money in those.
Great video, thanks for sharing. What gear did you do the dyno tune in?
5th gear mate.
If I do it in 4th gear they rev out too quickly and you don't get an accurate indication of the AFR reading. The 5th gear pull takes a little longer to wind out therefore the sampling of exhaust gases is far more accurate and helps tune the engine more effectively.
@@MasterTechMiller Thanks for the response, so it’s fair to say if you did a 6th gear pull since it’s 1:1 the number would be even higher or more on par with a lot of other shops that dyno the final pull in 6th gear?
@@RGHD912 yeah mate, normally a 6 gear pull will show a few extra numbers.
Which Fulsac head pipe do you recommend on the 131 build the smaller Fulsac head pipe or the large Fulsac head pipe and larger cross-over tube?
Hi mate the link is in the description of this video ua-cam.com/video/Sdxa-KnVOMU/v-deo.html
A good full length 2-1
Any twin cam videos coming up
Not in this month. Might be something coming up late October if the customer is still keen to go ahead with the build
Bars are not my style but the rest is epic !
What company makes the high comp 131 kit?
It's the components that make the 131 a high comp version. There is no 'high comp kit' available to my knowledge.
I will be installing +8cc dome top pistons and machining the cylinder head face down to increase the compression ratio.
@@MasterTechMiller oh nice! Btw tell this guy to change the head pipe, it kills me for him to spend all that money and not optimize it
@@chroniclesofnanner9543 I know right! I've spoken with him about it prior, during and after the build however he says he's not too worried about it at this stage. Give it time he may change his mind.
@@MasterTechMiller Once he sees the dyno results...
What bars are those
Burleigh Bars apes. 16"
Awesome thanks
👍💪💪💪
Drool
Damn that kinda weak
My 124 stock head 480mt did 128/146
Surprised dude didn’t want to do the bottom end with that 131. Potential for power on that is huge with a different pipe and less restrictive air cleaner
I mean obviously you picked up that cam out the trash bin later of camera
What if I told you I didn't.....I've got 3 of them sitting in the parts dept selves doing nothing so I didn't want to add another one to the list.
EVERYTHINGS REGULAR ON UA-cam
Care to elaborate?
This 131 build is the worst install video ever recorded,
Where’s the cam chest upgrade?…where’s the primary upgrade??
Have you built a few yourself mate? Your just a sucker for the catalog by the sounds....you have to remember mate, just because it didn't get shown in the video doesn't mean it didn't get done. Did you see me fit a longer brake line and clutch cable? Did you see me bleed the system and carry out the DTII bleed procedure before riding it on the road?
How about you do some thinking before you vomit up what you think you caught someone out on. For the record between myself and the guys at A.P.E we have built hundreds!!! Literally hundreds of big cube engines, been the first in the country to go 9sec on a bagger with a stock cam plate, wheel base, foot shifted, etc etc and not once EVER have we seen or heard of any stock cam plate failing.
I will install them when the customer says they want one right on wrong, other wise I won't, it's just not necessary as are those head studs for the rocker arms or that poxy vented dipstick and many other of the bullshit over hyped components out there these days.
There is plenty of other content on my channel that shows your beloved cam plates and compensators being installed so feel free to check them out at your own convenience. Until then mate, I will stick to my own advice and experience after 15years in the industry.
