    He skipped the part of aligning the oil pump. There should be two tapered bolts with the kit (JIMS 33443-84) to align the oil pump. If there isn't, they can be had for cheap just about everywhere. The procedure is in the shop manual, or should be included with the pump instructions. There is no need to press in the cams and bearing in the plate. Just put the bearings in the freezer, and the plate in the oven (or heat it on a hot plate), and the bearing will fall right into place. Same with the cams. I've done it many, many times, and prefer that over the press. There is always a chance to mar up stuff with a press.

    • @empcycleworks
      @empcycleworks  Рік тому +15

      Thank you for your comment. You definitely can install the cams/ bearings using the heat/ ice method. That works just fine.
      I absolutely centered the oil pump on the pinion shaft. I spun the pinion shaft using the rear wheel and tightened the cam plate and oil pump bolts in sequence. Following the instructions from Feuling on the centering procedure. Plus, the Jims alignment tools do not work with the feuling oil pump because the threads are on the pinion side of the oil pump. The jims tool does not reach the threads. I like this method better than using the Jims tools because it centers the oil pump to the pinion. Using the Jims tool it centers the oil pump to the cam plate not necessarily the pinion shaft.
      Again thanks for the comment.

    Did this on my '03 FXDWG and recommend to everyone as those spring tensioners can muck up your oil pump. Good demonstration of install and agree about the cam bearings, Timken is far superior. Upgrading to a hydraulic tensioner setup like the Feuling one in this video is always a good idea. Although you can replace tensioners and bearings in your stock setup. If you are going to pay a shop upgrade it. If you are doing it yourself you can save some money just freshening the cam-chest up. If your pinion is under 0.003" run-out, gear drive is the best option. Depending on your budget.

    I made a video on my channel of what to do if an Ina bearing breaks on you, if it helps anyone else. It happened to me before and it sucks!

    Everything thing was good but I will never use adjustable pushrods

    I see why Harley Davidson got away from inner chain cams.

    Things a POS. Gone through two of the OE+ plate and oil pump in under 25K on 98" TC mild build.
    SE with the brass bushing or S&S if you're doing a monster motor.
    So far for my money. Feuling hasn't shown me shit. If you're doing a mild 95" or 98" the stock 07 plate with a Baisley relief spring will work just fine.

    Some people lightly sand chain for smoothness..

      I cant say I have ever heard of that. The newer single roller chains are less sharp than the original style cam chains. I would be leery of sanding on the chain for fear of contaminating the rollers. And not being able to 100% verify that the chain is free of all the sanding material and steel particles. But its an interesting idea. Thanks for the comment.

    1 thousandth runout, you could have put a gear drive in there and been done with it forever.

    All that work for a plastic shim that looks the same.

      The spring is the major problem with the original setup. Even though the pad is of a similar material, the hydraulic setup lasts longer. If money is not an option, gear drive cams eliminates the issue entirely.

    you're sloppy with the lube/oil and loctite because you're working too fast. Slow down and make it a bit more professional.
