  • I decided to reach out & speak to Matt Smith from ‪@TheDynoGuy‬ in Florida & talk all things tuning & performance.
    Matt is a well known Harley-Davidson tuner & I often have comments from viewers that mention my work to him & Matt's work to me so I thought what better way to talk to each other about some of the pit falls we see in the tuning industry, some of the common misconceptions & errors some people can make when choosing a cam.
    We touch on correction factor that DynoJet Dynamometers use.
    Stock Clutch baskets & transmissions of the M8 engine.
    AFR collection processes.
    This is a first time podcast style interview for me so please bare with me as I stumble through the new style of filming & even doing the interview process.
    My aim is to bring more of this type of content to you all for & shed as much professional information as possible to you all to avoid any comment section confusion.
    We aim to delve deeper into more specific topics & talking points as well polish the process further.
    In the future I would like to bring on more guests, such as Wes & Pam from Cycle-Rama (if they're interested of course) & get to know them on more of a personal level as well as getting an inside view into the Cycle-Rama shop & all the machine work they do.
    If you liked this video, please let me know in the comments & I will be sure ti produce much higher quality video for the next interview. Also please let me know who you would like to see on the channel & I will reach out to them & try make it happen.

    Excellent video gentlemen. Found it very usefull. I've got 3 x Stage 4 Harleys, different models and years, the latest one being a 2023 RKS with the 131ci kit etc, built for me by War's HD in London. I've used Dynojet on all three bikes, and have a Powervision permantley connected to the RKS. I've had many a conversation about CAM's etc, so found this video especially interesting and helpful. If fact, I could do with some advice / recommendations please. I'm looking to add some more ''umph' to the 131 (HP and Torque, currently at 138 and 148), but I don't want to do much more than change the CAM, and any related components directly linked to it's ability to perform and deliver as it should and to it's best-as ability (such as adjustable rods, injectors (6.2gps so i've been told), lifters, cuffs, and possibly manifold bore to 64mm)). I've also been told the CR515 (not a CAM that well known over here) is probably to best CAM to go for. (I ride it a lot - European touring, around town, short and long trips, solo and 2 up, and I love to use it's full capability when and where i can over here in England 😁- so an all rounder CAM is preferred). To end a long message, yours and Matt's advice and recommendations would be grealy appreciated, thanks, Buzz.

    Awesome discussion. Would of enjoyed a brief discussion on the advantages of using wide band 02 sensors when perfecting a tune.

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  7 місяців тому

      In short, wide band sensors read from 10:1 up to 18:1
      Narrow band sensors read between 14.2:1 to about 14.8:1
      The advantages are huge with a wide band sensors/s as setting up the target Air/Fuel Ratio can be accurately set across the entire table. Not just in the cruising areas.

    • @schachat01
      @schachat01 7 місяців тому

      @@MasterTechMiller Thank you. Hypothetically-if during the tuning phase, wide band O2 sensors are installed in the existing 18mm O2 sensor bungs of the headers of the V&H True Duals on a 2008 96 CI FLSTC with a Stage 1 base map from SE (4 pin 1952 based ECM) and dyno tuned using a PV, how will that optimised tune work when you reinstall the OEM O2 sensors?

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  7 місяців тому +1

      @schachat01 in just about all cases a dyno tune is carried out with wide band sensors either installed in the OEM bungs or up the back of the exhaust pipes with a copper tube.
      When a dyno tune is carried out the entire AFR table is set & adjusted to. The benefits of using wide band is able to set the VE values across the entire table.
      Where with narrow band sensors they only operate within a certian rpm & throttle position range of the AFR table. (Generally around the cruising speeds).
      When using wide band sensors we can optimise the areas outside the narrow band window therefore having a great tune inside the narrow band window & outside of it.
      Once the tune is completed with wide band sensors and the OEM narrow band sensors are installed again the tune remains fixed to what has been set outside of the narrow band window. The narrow band area (otherwise known as closed loop) is constantly being adjusted by the OEM narrow band sensors to achieve the best economy possible.
      Hope this helps. I'm not the best at describing things in a txt format.

    It would be good for you guys to talk about the exhausts on the baggers. For both the guys with specials and the 2 into one guys. Especially with how you guys have seen im assuming some massive differences with some certain brands systems and where in the range thT difference is seen.

    Another awesome video, i wanted to quiz you on my build ive just completed. Fxdr 128 sns, se stage 1 ported heads, 64mm throttle body, extreme heavy breather and cr485. 11:1 comp. 5.5 injectors.
    135hp 147 torque. I feel like we shortchanged ourselves with the cam or compression ratio with the heads? Is there a different cam you reccomend to get more power down low? I had a 128 with cr483 stock heads that i feel actually had more power and came on earlier. Still bloody quick but im always chasing more!

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  11 місяців тому

      If you're sitting at 11.0:1 with those heads the comp ratio is fine for the CR485. The reason your 483 felt faster is because the torque comes in a little earlier than 485. The 485 makes a little more power up top.
      What pipe do you have at the moment?

    • @m8_fanatic
      @m8_fanatic 11 місяців тому

      @@MasterTechMiller a d&d bobcat

    • @MasterTechMiller
      @MasterTechMiller  11 місяців тому

      @m8_fanatic oh yeah. It's not a bad pipe, probably a little short for my liking but still better than a TBR 2-1.
      The shorter 2-1 pipes generally prove to have a soft spot in the 2500 to 3000rpm range.
      If your after all out grunt off the bottom I would suggest going with the CR480 from Cycle-Rama. You won't make as much peak HP but it will pull a shit load harder off the bottom than the 483 or 485.
      You could go with the new CR515 from Alpha Performance Engines which works great in flowed heads but you'd need to bump your comp ratio up to around 11.5:1 but you'll make 150hp with that cam & around 150ft/lbs but your pipe may still shoe a small 'soft spot' in the low rpm range

    Very tough to make a live style video and keep the conversation flowing.
    We were wandering all over the place a bit trying to find topics to talk about.
    It's always harder with a two way video than just doing your own thing.
    For a tech based content especially, I'd suggest actually scripting some notes about what you want to talk about with bullet points for each topic, and each of you have a copy and go over it before shooting. I know time can be a limiting factor here .
    Note that video quality is not a huge factor in the talking head style you were shooting, so don't stress over that.

    When I did the cam in my M8 I spend ages learning about how cams work and understanding all the durations and effects. I was extremely disappointed with the online information and total BS out there. I think a big problem is dyno charts too, its a representation of a WOT run only and people use it as bible for choosing a cam. The amount of people I found when researching that only wanted to know what it sounded like at idle made me want to get rid of my harley.
