For those of you who don’t know, I think the face used in this SCP is a coronal slice of someone’s face in an MRI scan. Very creepy and effective!
Before my kid was born, we went and did one of those 3d ultrasound things. At one point the doc pressed just slightly too hard, so the ultrasound went a little deeper than it was supposed to, and now I have the visual of what my infant son's skull looks like burned into my brain. This reminds me of that.

This one is especially creepy because it's something that the dreamer doesn't even know of or can control. They're not doing it out of malice, they don't even know it at all. They just go to bed one night and they have the potential to end the world without even knowing it.

The part where it talks about sponsoring literal ethnic cleansing efforts to prevent the SCP from spreading was chilling. Really chilling.
It's the fact that the Foundation doesn't have a line it won't cross if the situation calls for it, but the situation has to call for it. Saying this SCP justifies genocide before giving us any information about what it is? I felt that shit in my spine.

It isn't the first SCP to paint the Foundation as vulnerable, but it does a very good job at it regardless. Headcanons with less-than-perfect Foundation representation make for plenty of good stories.

Imagine there was this foundation, but now we're in the reality where it's just a ARG and no anomalies exist, they did exist, but a staff member at the foundation just had a dream the the foundation and the anomalies was a dream.
Yeah okay as someone who still has "maze" dreams where I'm seemingly not allowed to find the exit, I can understand why the foundation literally can't let dreams come true.

I’ve had some very, unusual and disturbing dreams. Just last night I dreamed of a new tiny alien species that was peaceful but would graft itself to humans skin, removal was as simple as wiping them off but it still freaked me out. There are dreams I wish were reality, and ones I wake up in fear, and thank god aren’t reality. What scares me so much about this scp is that, it’s almost completely random, you could wake up and without even knowing how, the world I gone, and it’s all because of you.
I had a dream that my sister, and oldest brother were skin walkers.
I had a dream of the wild hunt, they chased me through the savage lands all while I could hear the crackle of Odin's spear and thors mighty hammer

I had a peaceful little alien dream once too! In my dream-memory (I can't be the only one whose dreams create artificial memories ?) they were human-level intelligent little bird people of a variety of colors that were refugees of a dying/dead world. They lived in villages on the ground that they made of gathered materials like sticks, grasses and rocks. They learned how to speak our human languages, and like their own language it sounded like beautiful singing when they spoke. There was a little village of them near my house I walked to to and hang out and chat with them. I remember crouching down because they were so small, like the size of rabbits, and I watched one feed their babies, just like a regular bird would.

I had a dream the other night that a certain former president and Grindelwald from Harry Potter teamed up with the Wither from Minecraft to take over the world, and it was up to me, two of my friends, a pervert I knew in high school and Fishlegs from How to Train Your Dragon to defeat them.
Teaching a 1237 positive person to lucid dream would be an insanely powerful weapon. They could possibly be used to neutralize all other anomalies.

That would be like intentionally making a person in to a green-type reality bender, without any refined control or limit to their perception. With an added risk of wiping humanity from the face of the earth with 1 bad dream.

This is why I like SCPs, it demonstrates the *real* use of the phrase "For the greater good". One dreamer could literally destroy the world, does it matter if they're a baby or a beloved old man? No, and there are seven billion reasons why.
Possibly even more than that, considering pocket worlds, portals, parallel dimensions, time warps, and underground civilization.

It makes me wonder if in such a situation, the SCP foundation would just mock and scoff the "The end doesn't justify the means" line. Some people like to throw pretty philosophy lines around to feel good without really thinking if they apply, and this one specifically, completely says "Fuck you" to Morally gray areas and decisions.

@@inwit594 With how many crazy reality bending SCPs and crazy scifi machines the foundation has, I'm sure they could try *Something* else, I just take it they don't because those stories are written by different people, and they can be quite self-isolated, not considering other SPC stories and very obvious solutions.

This makes the Foundation feel very capable. They're not idly standing by waiting for some reality bender god to destroy the world. But their reach of influence is not unlimited. It recognizes that the foundation is covering the world as best it can in order to seek out anomalies and cover up their existences, and they will do it no matter the cost. The Foundation does not *Want* to abduct and kill civilians, but they will if they must. They don't *Want* to kill D-Class, but they will if they must. This is a keter not because it's a monster destroying the world, but because if someone finds out about it, the existence of anomalies will spill onto the world. The SCP foundation isn't scared of killing/abducting civilians, they're scared of what would happen if they don't. Just imagine if the Chaos Insurgency or the Sarkic Cult found a 1237-1-L. This SCP is good because the creepy feeling isnt in "what would happen" but "what could happen"
There's enough uncertainty to cast concern and anxiety, but action is being taken to prevent disaster and devastation worldwide. And then only way to do that is for the foundation to lie, intrude, manipulate, and kill.

I think this take is something a lot of newer SCPs are missing. Entries that make use of less common tropes and ideas like this leave a much bigger impact on the reader when understanding the stakes of the anomaly. That said, who wouldn't want to be a 1237-1-L?

The cooperation of those agencies with law enforcement organizations to detect relatives of assumed perpetrators (often without their knowledge or consent) and use that information to track down people leaving genetic evidence at a crime scene, and knowing it's one small step from that to monetizing that knowledge and selling it to manufacturers, or insurance companies, or sharing it with universities and the like, is what prevents me from ever doing one of those.
The reality is almost scarier than the SCP.
They're also used for collecting research data on autism, in order to "cure autism" (read: do eugenics on autistic people because autism scares non-autistic people)
I always thought this one is interesting because in eliminating this gene from the human population it closes the door on something that may be necessary for humanity to survive an unforeseen future event.
Would be interesting to read a counter story. An scp-001 proposal where the solution would have been scp-1237, but the foundation ruined that.

I loved this one, I read the containment procedures and was like "Holy shit, what?" Then the description and I was like "Oh okay, I see how that would be a problem."
In my head cannon Dr Millar is an SCP, being used by the foundation to train it's personnel.
His character in-universe is actually pretty funny if you think about it. Imagine this guy who probably isn't a "real" doctor, has a doctorate in something besides medicine, and his job is to record himself reading SCP file entries and mocking up representations of the anomaly in Blender (I know it's probably supposed to be "real" images in-universe but the other way is just too funny) so he can show his work to new recruits. Like I'm not trying to be mean Volgun puts a lot of hard work and effort into this stuff but my personal headcanon of him like this is just too funny.

I think I saw somewhere a while back that Volgun said himself that "Dr. Millar" is an anomalous tape recorder giving lectures to new agents.

I know the SCP foundation is just a stylized canvas to design and tell stories, but this SCP would make a lot of others make sense.
Would be an interesting backstory for how anomalous things came to the scp universe in the first place; A small part of the population possess a gene that somehow turns them into unconscious reality benders
This one Entity (well, the dreamers affected by it) certainly are responsible for creating a number of other entities before the foundation caught up with the situation.
Anything out of a fever dream making it's way into reality would certainly be anomalous in nature - and the possibilities a near endless.
The Foundation could have BEEN one such entity
The shy guy, the old man, the backrooms (not part of scp, but you know...), cactus man, all of Eric's items, the plague doctor, the hard to kill lizard, the dwarf star, heck even the original: peanut. Just to name a few. I could easily see all of them coming from someone's dream.
This might be one of my new favorites. The containment procedures are almost as scary as the SCP.
SCP 2000 has been used multiple times to repopulate after XK events, the gene pool was preselected and modifications were made, thus this gene was intentionally seeded in the population by prior agency survivors .
Or, perhaps this gene is the result of a seemingly unrelated anomaly inserting the gene into the human genome, and users of SCP-2000 have so far been unable to figure out where it comes from every time they've used the failsafe.
@@Kihanacloudy it could also be a result of using 2000 for example this SCP wasn’t a thing until we used it repeatedly. After a few reboots one or two people with this popped up and the more we use it the more and more likely this SCP will pop up.

I love that you always start with containment procedures, and its like "this is monstrous! How could ANYTHING justify this sort of procedure," and then we hit the Description...
That's just how the SCP articles usually start, the containment procedures before the description.
I love the ending message. It’s saying you know what you signed up for when you joined the foundation. It’s not all fun and games and flying paper dragons. Sometimes you have to do some brutal things like killing a demonic baby that killed it’s mother after she gave birth to it just to keep the world at bay another day longer.
or even killing an innocent new born or massacring an entire town
This is a great SCP to show what the Foundation is, and what it must do, no matter how bad, to make sure we have a morning.
And at least there is a way to neutralize this one, unlike a certain Deer, or Lizard, or--
I'm pretty sure this is simply a nod to the notion that the SCP universe is controlled by the whims of whom-so-ever gets it into their head to write an SCP. The 1-L classification being those who drive the lore into specific directions that aren't traditionally popular, by gaining attention and continuing to expand on their take of the SCP universe.
This is one of those examples of how the foundation's inconsistent power level makes things weird. Relative to their technology, it would be pretty trivial to just genetically engineer the trait out of humanity or treat the -1s they find. We basically have that tech NOW, we just aren't sure how to use it properly.

There are some older SCPs like that too. I forget which one, but TheVolgun has a video where ‘Dr Miller’ openly criticizes an article for having too many unnecessary redactions.

Immediately one of my favorites. It's quite impressive that the title of an experiment log imparted insight without the log itself being included. That's a triumph of clinical tone as a tool for storytelling.

This was such a good one! This put the Foundation in such a nasty spot, having to commit mass murder in order to prevent the murder of all of existence. What a moral mess. I really like things like this in SCP’s because it feels like something they’d actually have to deal with, decisions like these.
especially with all the genocides that have occured in the past 300 years.. Holocaust, Rwandan, Khmer rouge, great leap forward, manifest destiny, etc. Especially if the foundation was behind it. Truly terrifying.

Ursula Le Guin wrote a novel with a similar plotline decades before SCPs became a thing- it's called The Lathe of Heaven, and it's good.
Reality rewriting on a universal level is crazy! How many SCP entities or events are a result of this phenomenon is staggering!

These things could be either created or (however unlikely) contained through a 1237 dream

I would love a SCP story of alien first contact and suppression of any information getting out into public .
Imagine each day positive lucid dreamers remembering the world being different, and each night someone changes it back to how they rememver it should be, and this cycle goes on through their life time.
This is basically the kind of ability almost anyone would love to have - at least if they can control it.

9:56 Yeah I've had dreams about the Vietnam war carrying over to the 21st century, zombies, being the last man on earth in a zombie apocalypse, had relationships with certain people that I'd never want to be with irl, and even more zombie stuff. So as harsh as containment sounds I'd be fine with not dreaming the world into hell.

This is a really cool concept, but I wish there was a bit more meat to the article. It would have been nice to have some actual records of changes made, or interviews with affected people, maybe documentation of early experiments, etc.

This is an interesting SCP, but I’ve been having dreams that come true as long as I can remember. At least since 4. Some dreams are just dreams, but Precognitive dreams range from eating a specific brand of breakfast item during specific conversation to circumstances surrounding the exact nature and date of family members’ illness and/or death.

I could literally have SCP-1237. My dreams are always of the most mind-numbingly mundane things. Once I dreamed of going out and buying groceries, like just that, nothing special. Why the hell can't I have those flying dreams??
I like how the foundation just ignores that these people can also make the world better, and that this fluidity of reality makes it pretty much inevitable that our reality is the way it is because of these people. Dreamers have the capacity to damage the world yes, but they also have the capacity to bring it back from absolute calamity. This sounds more like the universe's evolved repair system to me than something that should be eliminated.
They do try to use them tho, the 1237-L-1 individuals are captured and could be used to eliminate a keter class SCP under O5 authorization. But these individuals are immediately terminated after to prevent them from attempting to warp reality after realizing what their reality bender capabilities.

i love this one, it gives the dejavu mindset a reality, recently had one of these dreams and i visited a city i never had before, with an exact name, i searched it and surprise, it was like 30km from where i live
I like when any kind of writer "exploits" dreams in some way.
The best example would probably be freddy kruger, if you were to watch the movie and if you dream about him, that probably won't be so pleasant and since there is no way you can fully control what you are going to dream about, it just makes it that much scarier.
