    SCP-163 │ An Old Castaway │ Safe │ Extraterrestrial SCP
    Item #: SCP-163
    Object Class: Safe
    Description: SCP-163 is a sapient organism of extraterrestrial origin. When standing, it is 2 m tall and 1.5 m wide, the bulk of the body being suspended 50 cm from the ground. The body is roughly cylindrical with a circular mouth at the bottom, the equivalent of a head at the top, and eight three-jointed legs arranged radially around the equator. SCP-163 also has a series of specialized limbs, listed here:
    Two prehensile feeding apparatus on either side of the mouth.
    Two arms near the top of the body, used for delicate manipulation.
    Two larger arms located closer to the legs, used for heavy manipulation and lifting, and capable of producing a steady force of approximately 500 N and a striking force of up to 2000 N.
    Two appendages of indeterminate function located between the legs and mouthparts which had been amputated prior to SCP-163's discovery.

    Hope you all enjoyed this - I made the 3d model and basic orbit animation from scratch, i'm learning more and more everyday about the tools I need to make my videos better and more than just readings (this SCP doesn't have a picture so i thought it was cool that i was able to add something of value to the source material). Also huge thanks for Corvus B for the new music! - i'm planning on having a theme for each object class, so that's something else to look forward to! - Thanks for watching/listening! - Volgun.

      This is purely my opinion.
      *Secure* - To gain knowledge of how the anomaly exists, its limitations and consistencies.
      *Contain* - To hide the anomaly from a world that is not ready to accept it, and to hide the anomaly from a world it may not accept and/or a world that is too fragile for it.
      *Protect* - To maintain the continued existence of the anomaly and, if sentient, make sure it is not mistreated outside of its comfort or biological/mechanical tolerance. The same applies to an unprepared world regarding a dangerous or potential species/world/reality ending anomaly.

      @@Arcturus_Reaper There are different authors and different universes comprised of scp stories made by those authors. Some authors are hyper cynical and make the scp foundation out to be extremely bureaucratic, egotistic, and controlling. Some authors show the scientific theory in their works like this one, showing that a truly altruistic scientific foundation would be willing to give appropriate accommodation to another sapient species, if only to build a good relationship that can be used for obtaining further information.
      There are authors that would make something like scp 076 Able, a killing machine that has shown its ability physically and mentally to create destruction and death, and yet the author managed to find a way for the foundation to turn him into an MTF agent, if only for a time. And then theres an author that would turn an innocent teenager with the ability to create portals and summon items with such cold treatment it made him break and turned him into a Keter class scp when he could have, in any other universe, easily been a Thaumiel Class, since he had a true sense of justice.

    I love this SCP. I always laughed at the idea that most alien life depicted in pop culture are bipeds with humanoid characteristics. The reality is most likely something like this. Even if the life forms we may come into contact with are kind and non violent, it would still take years to develop a reliable communication method due to the inevitable vast biological differences between our species. It may look like something out of a nightmare to us, but I can only wonder what it thinks when it sees a human.

    • @LetsConquerTheUniverseTogether
      @LetsConquerTheUniverseTogether 2 роки тому +6

      Written communication probably wouldn't be that difficult to establish as long as each species provides the other with some sort of Rosetta Stone. Verbal communication, however, could very well be impossible.

    • @zacyquack
      @zacyquack Рік тому +2

      In reality many of the features of this SCP that make it unique are unrealistic in the real world. Fair enough it can’t handle nitrogen, but the idea that it doesn’t use iron for heme for example is unlikely, considering how common and stable iron is, it makes evolutionary sense to use it instead of any other metal substitutes.
      Of course it is possible aliens could be completely different, but the planet they came from would have to be so drastically different, with so many unlikely things occurring to have a creature reach this level of difference from ourselves.

    • @Jiub_SN
      @Jiub_SN 6 місяців тому

      Why do you laugh? As far as you know aliens are more like us. Given the evidence (being just us) the best and most likely scenario is that they are bipedal carbon based life forms with 2 arms, posable thumbs and a DNA base. We can't say that for sure, but saying they look like this would be more improbable. You may imagine them to be this way, but that is just your imagination. Until we have differing evidence the human form is the way for intelligent life, as we and every other intelligent species we are aware of have shared the same form

      On the other hand, the ultraviolet window this creature can see is almost totally blocked by oxygen itself (both as the normal diatomic form and, famously, by ozone), so its vision would have been useless for 2.4 billion years, the date of the Great Oxidation Event. A date before which only deep-sea bacteria existed, for the record, nevermind animals they could have evolved from or the jungles they paint. And this not mentioning visible light still was very much more abundant and convenient to use.

    Take this alien for instance. In any movie, they'd dissect it and study the technology, but a bunch of teenagers would save it to show humanity can be good as individuals.
    Here The Foundation studied the alien and helped it survive. When deemed to be no threat to humanity or The Foundation, they interacted in friendly terms with it, displaying curiousity and kindness to this stranded survivor.

    I've been watching these going backwards chronologically, and I agree with the other people that it's very cool that the visuals match Millar's promotion, and we get to see the evolution of your renders

    This story is better than anything made in the past 20 years by Hollywood. And the 3d art is also very nice.
