Glad they came through. For me the Sig was the perfect gun until the Ruger. I prefer the Ruger Max .380 for reasons I stated in the comments of another video you did, but that’s the beauty of today’s world when it comes to concealed carry. There is a gun that pretty much fits everyone’s needs and views. And to be honest if what happened to you happened to me I would probably never feel comfortable with the Ruger even with them stepping up. The dilemma you had Is a great problem to have when you think about it. Just 5 years ago the concept of micro 9’s and .380’s that carried 10 plus easily concealed rounds was unheard of.
Both good gun's to carry depending on circumstances. I picked the XL over the standard for about the same reasoning, and got the Ruger for special occasions. We have lot's of good choices these days... God Bless America!! 🇺🇸
during my class of CPR, it was always stressed to not perform chest compressions of more than 2 or 2 1/2 inches so as not to hurt the person you are trying to save his life. so! if a 380 will penetrate 8 to 10 inches into a chest cavity, I really don't see any problem with that kind of penetration for stopping an aggressor. 14 to 18 seems like it will be a complete pass-through. just saying! I feel very confident with my 380's just as I do with my 9 mm pistols, I only choose one over the other depending on what type of clothes I will have on that day to go on and about.
I have enough trouble keeping my pants up with just keys in my pocket. LCP Max all the way for me but I sure wish I felt as comfortable carrying a heavier gun 👍
To me, the sig is not heavy.. but then again I cut my teeth in a full sized 1911 then moved to a Glock 23 so, after carrying those bricks for years, the sig is cake…
I can understand the advantages of carrying 9mm and that is my primary EDC. I do however also carry a 380 S&W M&P Bodyguard for pocket backup. I am considering taking a look at the Ruger LCP Max because of the capacity. Thanks for the video and keep shooting 😊.
I see a lot of comments regarding great customer service. When buying a firearm, customer service is low on my list for making decisions. If a firearm fails in a defensive situation when your life is on the line, what good is customer service? Customer service when it comes to firearms should be about putting out the most reliable product you can and not about how you fix an issue after the fact.
I have both. For hot weather when I have light clothing I carry the max because of its amazing conceal ability and that the .380 can save your life and end a threat. In cold months, I carry my Taurus G3C. If I can hide it better, I’m carrying more firepower to stay safe and mind my own business. Good video, loved your take!
Lehigh defense extreme penetrator 380. Gives you hollow point 9mm penetration in a 380. Problem solved. It's a barrier blind round and it's only negative is it doesn't expand so the diameter of the bullet is narrower than a 9mm hollow point, however, I find it hard to believe that there will be a scenario where a bullet diameter of .5 inches or .6 inches is the difference in stopping a threat versus point .35 inches. Nice to see a country boy opinion 👍
The .380 extreme defenders and extreme penetrators will go beyond 12”-14”. Also Hornady has some great defensive options and there are enough on the market to for .380 to make sense when a 9mm is too bulky. Would be nice to have the LCP II in 22lr for a range toy and LCP II and LCP Max in .380 as pocket pistols when the P365 isn’t practical. If the P365 is too big, the LCP max might be good but if that’s still too big the LCP II is very small and the spare 7+1 rnd magazine can fit in the left hand pocket for a total of 15 rounds. I skateboard at night and sometimes need the lightest possible carry option because these drug addicts I sometimes encounter are desperate, mentally unstable, often 51/50and unpredictable. I just cant skateboard with an anything down my pants but I still need to be able to defend myself if someone tried to attack me. I am pretty confident but recently a random person became extremely aggressive towards me. I’m pretty sure he was armed and I only had a skateboard. An incident like that could easily turn into an armed assault if it went just a little bit hotter but the chances I’ll have a 9mm when I’m skateboarding is low. A little LCP II could fit in my front pocket and at least I would have something. The reason I’m getting a concealed permit too. Because I don’t want to get assaulted by the police for having a concealed weapon on me for protection.
Great video! I carry the p365 mostly in winter when I wear untucked flannel shirts or when wearing a coat. In summer I'm going to carry the max 380 because my shirts and tees aren't the baggy style.
Crazy how close in size those are, It seems like from separate pics the Ruger would be way smaller, especially the slide width and magwell. Good point about shooting through auto glass, 9mm loads just completely outclass anything in the .380. Some of the oddball 9mm will punch level II or even 3-A armor, which no .380 will do.
Numerous ballistic gel test show that In order to get the penetration with a 380ACP, FMJ is required. If one uses a HP, either there's under penetration or the HP never expands . With 9mm, an HP is best for proper penetration. If someone uses a FMJ, over penetration is very likely. No question that 9mm has better stopping power than 380ACP, but there are some people who either can't or don't want to deal with the strong kick from 9mm. Either way, no one in their right mind would want to be hit with either round, so both are good for CCW.
Nice review! I was thinking of the lcp max as a secondary piece to my p 365 . Im leaning now to just get a Xcompact sig for some extra fire power and just carry the p365 90% of time.
Bro, just went through this. New barrel and slide assembly. Came back. 80 rounds flawless until the trigger group failed. Sent it back and the trigger bar was replaced. Got it yesterday and haven't tested it, but in the meantime my new Sig will be tested as well. And yes, Ruger has excellent customer service.
I own and like both pistols so I can't really say I like or prefer one over the other. For me the P365 carries very easily and I pocket carry my LCP Max. Some days I don't feel like wearing a gun on my belt all day so I switch to pocket carry. Both are great pistols and will fit just about anyone's needs for a ccw.

Glock 27 is still king.💪 It's like 9 guns in 1. Straight up!🫡 But you can always carry the LCP MAX with Underwood Xtreme Defenders. That will work just fine.
Subsonic rounds of any type don’t have the velocity for a hollow point to expand. So with the .380 the Underwood round that looks like a Philips screwdriver and made of copper won’t expand but it will penetrate to a decent depth. If you want a round that expands move up to a faster 9mm round that has enough velocity to expand in a hollow point. Going by FBI stats and the ballistics gel they use is different gel than virtually all videos you can find. So the FBI says 12 inches of penetration, in lower grade gel probably 16-18 inches with the same round and weapon. I really have no problem with anything this guys says, he has everything thought out and if he has to ever explain his self in court I doubt he will have any problems.
Have the Ruger Max because I have to no print-pocket carry for my work scenarios. After a cleaning and lubrication, it has shot reliably. Does shoot low however. Not sure if I should get service on it. The Sig looks like a good choice also.

Under snappy recoil my grip was riding up and interacting with the slide catch, locking the slide back. It took me over 1000 rounds to figure out what was going on, and this was last weekend after someone saw what I was doing wrong.
I bought one and haven’t taken it to the range yet. To me you shouldn’t have to send it back.you pay a lot of money, you shouldn’t have to fix the problems. Im gonna be bummed out if I have a bunch of problems with it.
The Sig P365 is significant larger and heavier than the LCP Max... there's a big difference when trying to conceal and carry in your pocket, which is what the LCP was primarily built to do.
That depends on your definition of “significantly larger”.. which it is not. It’s true that It IS larger but the main difference is the weight. And it’s not a fair comparison between the two, The Sig was not designed for pocket carry like the Max was so… there’s that. Both fill a space in my ccw rotation so, I don’t see either as a negative.

With the one I have there is no external manual safeties. However, the 365 can be had in many different configurations.. they offer an external manual safety plus it naturally has an internal firing pin safety block and the trigger itself is slightly heavier. So, with the p365, like many many other carry handguns, the main safety is gonna be between your ears… 😉
I don't know that all of them shoot low, but the LCP Max I ended up with certainly did and not a little bit but a lot low. Mine has a pretty mushy trigger that just stung the heck out of your trigger finger every time you shot it to the point of painful, like a bee sting. As I've shot mine both problems have improved and hopefully will continue to improve especially in the accuracy department. Function wise, it has proven to be reliable with most rounds. So, no complaints there.
I’ve heard that hollow points out of the ruger don’t expand and aren’t don’t feed as reliably? I was thinking about using ball, but you said it overpenetrates! That’s terrible!
It’s not just the ruger… it’s not just the 380 caliber… when ammo companies put the ballistics and trajectory ect on a box of ammo… the test gun always has a longer barrel. As long as they can get to increase numbers.. short barrel anything, handguns, rifles ect will always come in slower, with less energy and less expansion than what’s on the box..all I can say is, a lot of smaller pistols have an issuer with wide cavity hp ammo. The LCP Max I have does not..that’s why you always shoot whatever load you are carrying… verify your self defense load…
I carry the Max it's great for deep concealing like going to Church or doctor apt how ever I carry a Glock 19 on my hip with a shirt pulled out over it and the max as a back up in my pocket when I go to town now I did meet a guy who was shot 5 times with a 380 4 rounds to the upper legs and one through the lower back and the projectile just broke the skin on the front and was still sticking out the skin and was going to have to be surgically removed at some point the rounds in the legs none penetrate all the way through but in my profession I have met a man who lived and took 5 hits from a 40 cal but that is another story
You made the rite choice i love my SIG 365 in 380 had a Ruger MAX 380 it was a peace of junk it would pinch your finger on the trigger every time you shot it also it would jam all the time tried different ammo and 2 different MAGS !!!
Lol sounds like user error. Somehow I've managed to never pinch my finger once. But then again, I hold it correctly and shoot it standard. I'm at 'peace' with it. It works 'rite' for me.
Because it’s a weak almost extinct cartridge that’s not much more powerful than a 22wmr. Have had a couple and it’s not what I’d suggest for your ccw.. research it.

I was confronted by a man in my driveway a couple of weeks ago. He walked up and started questioning me about who lived in my home. I ask him who he was, he told he didn't have to tell me who he was and was acting weird. The 12" knife on his belt gave me reason to be concerned the LCP Max in my belt was underpowered. Went back to my P365, that day. Just my 2 cents.
Thats not actually so.. good quality ammo , even 380 acp WILL expand as described. Im not talking about wally world winchester white box either. Stick around and i intend on proving it on an actual flesh animal this deer season.

Gel penetration doesn't translate to human flesh penetration 1:1. The gel is just a test medium for consistency and control.

Get a belt designed for carry and it will help with the weight.

I have p365 with 147 hst...going to lcp max with 99 grain hydra shok deep
Never had an issue with a trigger getting snagged, but i do wish i had that blade on my sig trigger just for one tiny extra bit of security

Honestly, I was pissed… and in the end, they sent the slide and a shipping label for me to return the “old” one..

Lol sounds like user error. Somehow I've managed to never pinch my finger once. But then again, I hold it correctly and shoot it standard. I'm at 'peace' with it. It works 'rite' for me.

Because it’s a weak almost extinct cartridge that’s not much more powerful than a 22wmr. Have had a couple and it’s not what I’d suggest for your ccw.. research it.

I was confronted by a man in my driveway a couple of weeks ago. He walked up and started questioning me about who lived in my home. I ask him who he was, he told he didn't have to tell me who he was and was acting weird. The 12" knife on his belt gave me reason to be concerned the LCP Max in my belt was underpowered. Went back to my P365, that day. Just my 2 cents.

In fact most .380 hollow points have a hard time expanding so they penetrate just fine.
Thats not actually so.. good quality ammo , even 380 acp WILL expand as described. Im not talking about wally world winchester white box either. Stick around and i intend on proving it on an actual flesh animal this deer season.
6-8 inches of penetration with a hollow point? I've never seen that ever with a .380. It's usually 11-14 inches. 9mm is only a couple inches more
Youve never seen a 380 acp hp with 11-14 inch penetration if the bullet expands… if that were so, there would be no debate on which is better 9mm or 380.. and only a couple inches more out of the 9mm?? Lol. Sometimes the internet can lead you astray. Js
