This is a long one! I wanted to show plenty of real time stitching on these feathers so you can see how the develop. I'm always working on improving my videos so if you like more real time stitching like this or want to see more time lapse, let me know! I'm still new to filming on this machine and I want to make it as great as possible :)
Thank you for such an in depth explanation and diagrams for quilting feathers. Very helpful as my sample quilt sandwich is sitting ready at the machine but needed to check on the best pathway to stitch.
I'm surprised and a little puzzled as to why so few have clicked the like button. THANK YOU. I've watched quite a few feather videos and never seen , that I can remember, anyone show us feathers started this way. It makes perfect sense to me and I shall have to practise this now. Please do more as your way of drawing out the shapes to explain and then illustrate the results are excellent. I shall share this video on my longarm group so others can see your work. You are an excellent teacher.
As a relative newbie to the quilting world I found this tutorial to be wonderfully helpful. What used to be the bane of my quilting existence has turned into a much anticipated and playful experience. I found it's all about spatial relations and execution - what a great feeling I get when my feathers turn out as well as they do. Thank you for your help - greetings from Rapid City, South Dakota. You have a new subscriber!
I I have watched a whole lot of feather tutorials and I have struggled to go around the corner with feathers. I have been working on this for a very long time. You are the first to explain in such a way that I understand … Thank You and I can not wait to see more of your feather tutorials. You are a wonderful teacher. Thank You ❤️❤️❤️
This is going to be a little long, but I wanted to thank you for inspiring me to FINALLY take the plunge and start free motion quilting!! I was always enthralled with it, but intimidated by it at the same time. I tend to be really perfectionistic and could just envision lots of jerky designs with giant/miniscule stitches that I hated, mixed in with eyelashing, LOL. But I love, LOVE feathers. Over the weekend, I started a just-for-me, quilt as you go, raw edge applique Raggy Roses quilt and decided there was no time like the present to take advantage of trying free motion with individual blocks and not having to deal with cramming a big quilt through the machine on top of everything else. I remembered this video of yours and how you drew the feathers from the bottom up. It had just seemed to click and stuck with me. I took the plunge yesterday and after two practice blocks, I "went for it" and did feathers around the outside of a block, to fill the area around where the rose will be. That first block turned out so great that I "visited" it, to marvel at it over and over again yesterday (and this morning), just amazed that it looked so GREAT. It is not perfect, but it's WAY better than I ever thought I could do and I even managed to navigate the feather around the block corners. I WISH I could attach a picture! So this is my long-winded way of saying THANK YOU, Megan!!!
You are the absolute best teacher. I started subscribing months ago because of it but once again you have knocked it out of the park. Your white board explanations are crafted to be as clear and concise as possible. Then when you show the technique in real time it all comes together. I really need the white board AND the real time to feel like I totally understand. More feather tutorials please. More other free motion designs would be helpful too. I only have 4 inches of quilting area at a time and need horizontal designs that fit nicely together after multiple rows so it looks like an all over pattern in the end.
Best feather quilting video I've seen. Detailed instructions on the iPad and sewing machine is so helpful. I know my feathers will look better from now on. Thank you
This is the best explanation of feathers I’ve ever seen. I now feel like I understand how to do this. Can’t wait to get on my machine and start. Thank you!
OMG 😊 i can't thank you enough for your awesome excellent explanation of how to make feathers! You have blessed me with the courage to give it a try! You're amazing 😊 thank you so so sew so sew much!
I really appreciate your teaching style. Your approach to the simple feather is different from others and so much easier to mimic. Thanks so much and I do look forward to more of your videos on feathers.
Your content is always amazing and you don't gloss over steps. I appreciate the real time and anything you can offer on feathers to build this skill would be helpful. as always. Thank you! thank You!
Thank you, love your calm and clear teaching approach. The white board and real time stitching makes it very clear. I like all over quilting ideas and this is one I will be able to use. Your new machine gives great angles, very clear.
OMG first time I have wanted to quilt feathers!! Love your white board technique. Really clarifies how to do what you are teaching. I am so hooked on your site, and yes, more feathers please. Thank you.
Thank you!!! I'm pretty new to FMQ and have wanted to do feathers, but none of the tutorials were this clear. Thank you! I'm pulling out a test piece to practice on
This video has demonstrated that quilted feathers don’t need to have areas where the lines of stitching are repeated. It’s a great way of creating feathers and I can’t wait to try it out 👍 Thank you so much for sharing this Megan 👏👏🇬🇧
Your explanations are always so clear it makes us feeling as everything is so simple….thank you very much for those happy and very useful videos..greetings from 🇫🇷💜
Excellent tutorial!! You are a very good teacher. I always come away feeling like I can do that😊. Thank you so much. I always look forward to see what you are doing. More feathers please❤️😁
I'm not a beginner, but I really like your real time stitching. Some things just can't be rushed. You covered so much that this video may get a lot more views than usual. Don't worry about the length. You will make videos as long as they need to be. Just keep them coming.
I loved this tutorial. You demonstrated it so well. I always wondered how to make them without thread build up, and how to make them fit a curve. You are such a great teacher.
Im so thrilled to hear that!!! I remember struggling with feathers and was so proud of myself when I finally made something that didn’t look like weird fingers 😂
Such a great video and explanation of those lovely feathers! Thank you! I would love to see how you stitch feathers like this on a long arm. It's fun to see you work and explain how you decide what you want to do next. 😍
Megan, I always enjoy your videos- such a wide variety! But this is your best yet! I love feathers, and I’m good at free motion quilting, but I could not mange feathers. I cannot wait to have a chance to try your technique. I just know it will work! Watching you from Australia 🇦🇺
Thank you for thoroughly explaining the process of quilting feathers. I appreciate you showing the real-time speed and pointing out that you don't have to rush. Your video is the best tutorial on quilting feathers that I have ever watched - and I have watched a lot of feather tutorials! Thank you!!!! Yes! I would love to see more feather tutorials from you. I subscribed to your channel. You are a great teacher!
I love feathers but I’m still not comfortable with it. Please do more presentations about feathers. I learn more each time. Rosemary Davis, El Dorado, KS
You, my dear, are brilliant! I'm really wanted a sit down long arm. Looks like the George isn't made anymore. I can't stand for long periods and I just can't seem to find an adequate setup with my Bernina 770 to easily slide quilts under the needle. I can't afford a real cabinet that can handle throw size quilts. There is too much drag and my neck starts to scream. It is already bolted together, I don't want to bend the bolts. Big fan of yours!
Thank you so much just what I needed. I was thinking about searching your site for more quilting videos earlier this week and was excited when this one popped up today. I love your teaching style and now I'm eager to quilt....maybe when I get through piecing what I have under my needle. I have a top and back ready to sandwich and quilt so this is in my near future. Thanks for the inspiration.
I really enjoyed this tutorial. I love how you explain things on your tablet first. The length & speed of the content was great. I learned feathers a little differently & I'm excited to try both. What would be an easy beginner quilt pattern to do on an old jelly roll race quilt? I have a top from years ago that I've been using as a table cloth because it needs quilted. I don't love it enough to take it to my long arm ladies. So I think it'd be a great one for me to test out myself. I'd love videos on different quilting ideas for different types of blocks. Thanks for the great video and resources.
Your details are extremely helpful. I tried this for the first time yesterday after watching your tutorial twice. It went very well and your advice to learn to quilt from different directions was valuable since my block ended up needing to be quilted from the top down. I'm very pleased with my results. Many thanks!
I enjoyed the video and the excellent explanation and illustrations you gave. I learned a lot and thoroughly enjoy all of your videos. Please do some more. Thanks. Diana
Thoroughly enjoyed watching this tutorial. Great explanations with your white board and then application. I learned more and will try this technique on my completed quilt top. Keep the videos coming you did a great job and it is truly appreciated!
Hi thank you for this video. I am very new to quilting. I have only ever quilted in the ditch before. But I am very keen to have a go at different patterns. So I will definitely have a try at circles and feathers. Many thanks.
I like the way you showed how to do the easy feathers free motion, quilting which makes it very understandable. I subscribed to your channel. I will look forward to more instructions. Thank you very much Connie from Boston mass.

I think this is the best feather tutorial I've seen yet, thank you!
I LOVE the feathers- yes more videos on variations and specifics
Thank you for such an in depth explanation and diagrams for quilting feathers. Very helpful as my sample quilt sandwich is sitting ready at the machine but needed to check on the best pathway to stitch.
I really appreciate your tutorials. I will be looking at more of them soon.
Yes! Please add more feathers videos. Thank you for sharing your thought process in quilting a feather
I'm surprised and a little puzzled as to why so few have clicked the like button. THANK YOU. I feel the same. This is so informative and doable!
Many people only click the like button when prompted. They just don’t think about it.
Please do more of these, I also love meandering feathers!

I love your explanations, and your drawing! But I especially love how slow you make the design. It really helps so much! Thank you thank you!
