The Most Uncomfortable Letterman Interviews Ever
Вставка
- Опубліковано 22 тра 2024
- David Letterman never liked giving the kind of interview where a star would plug their latest movie and move on, but these interviews were odd, even for Letterman. Sometimes, the stars came out ready to fight (literally, in one case), while others were quickly made uncomfortable with an insulting introduction by the late-night host -- but these segments all took a turn for the weird, probably leaving the guests wishing that they had just gone on The Tonight Show instead.
From the actor who challenged Letterman to an arm wrestling match to the bizarre apology that just made things worse, let’s take a look at the weirdest and most uncomfortable David Letterman interviews ever.

Which of these was the most cringe-inducing for you?
Everything with Letterman in it
Madonna, she makes me want to hurl.
What was up with McFly?
Every Letterman interview is cringeworthy.
Crispin Glover
just show us the clips instead of talking
Anne-Fleur Vicarini just give us good comments instead of whining.
I agree - watching the interviews would be more interesting than being told what happened with some photographs. But then, I'm sure some need to have things explained to them.
You should Ask UA-cam for that
100% agree.
Airheads gotta keeping dripping stupid ramblings like water torture.
We might know who was the most cringe-inducing if you'd stop talking for ten seconds and actually show us the clips.
I’m a Haines too
The narration really helps me understand that these are interviews. Thank you for considering my small brain
🤣🤣🤣
if we could get get rid of the narration it would be great
MrJonswift200 stories amen to that brother
Yup. Very annoying trying to watch whilst all the babbling going on.
It would be improved, not "great"
They're not going to stop the narration. Find a different channel if it bothers you so much.
LOL
why do you have to continue with the endless narration. So bloody annoying
Right on
THE ONLY CRINGE IS YOUR CONSTANT TALKING. LET THE VIDEOS PLAY!!!
YOU CAN BE HORRIBLY ANNOYING!!
you aren’t annoying.
Yeesh
Beiber's "Sixteenth Chapel " is priceless !
You mean ‘Bieber’? Now that’s priceless
Letterman was said to be a pretty bad interviewer because he hardly listened to what the guest was saying.
THANK YOU 🙌
he was and then just insults them he's a terrible host terrible
@@gongoozleriam9783 lol chill mate
Love the new content !! I haven’t seen these interviews !
Ha! “The 16th chapel” you walked right into that, Beebz.
It was a joke.
tnx for explaining all the interviews i normally just sit and watch with no sense of whats going on
Joaquin Phoenix is going to make a good joker 😎
This comment aged well
You can say that again, pal.
What is Your next prediction O Wise One?
@@jonnylace6536 this is not a surprise, genius.
Do you write for the simpsons????
Crispin Glover was playing himself as Andy Warhol in The Doors 😂
He was playing his character in Rubin & Ed.
The Andy Kaufman/wrestler thing was scripted, and Dave was in on it. He said so in interviews.
"Joaquin sorry you couldn't be here tonight!" One of Letterman's funniest lines ever.
95% self-important narration 5% actual footage ...thumbs down.
Self-important ? Are you stupid or smthing?
I watched the Crspin Glover interview live, and Letterman was sincerely concerned about Crispin’s behavior.
I remember seeing it live, too, and it gave me a very uneasy feeling at the time.
There’s nothing sincere about Letterman, except when he’s being lewd.
The most cringe-worthy interview Dave ever had was with Cheryl Tiegs. This was back in 1984 if memory serves. I've never found the video anywhere, only references to it. If anyone can find it, post so all can watch, it was an absolute wreck, but soooo fun to watch.
I remember that I was 14 when that came out
I remember watching the Crispin Glover interview, and man, that was super cringe-worthy. The problem was, no one knew where he was coming from, and when he did the kick to Letterman's face, I thought he'd lost his mind. I always thought he was a little crazy after that, and I wonder if that was why he didn't get a whole lot of work afterwards. He's a great actor, but this made him look very bad
He was equally as cringe inducing on the Tonight show.
Crispin Glover was playing a character in this interview. Duh
Too much irrelevant narration. Couldn't get through it.
Crispin was just playing.Jeeze
At 5:17 Mr Letterman did a great job keeped a straight face but almost cracked up there. That is one of the greatest episodes ever. Thanks for the videos...🤣😂🤣🤩
The Kramer episode was by far the cringiest. Some of the others were stunts but this one was hands down awkward. He was trying to apologize and the audience thought it was a skit so they kept chuckling. Sooooooo awkward! My shoulders still haven’t come down from that.
Ah, Crispin Glover. My all-time favorite Letterman guest. That brown acid didn't set well with his constitution. I knew the Andy Koffmann skit was staged, but funny. I miss Letterman and Paul Shafer.
I think Seinfeld was right. Richards was trying to be serious why would people laugh?
Because he said "Afro-Americans" instead of "African-Americans"
He's a comedian so people think they're supposed to laugh. People are idiots in case you haven't noticed
Cause he was sounding racist while apologizing for being racist openly.
"Afro-Americans"? I'd be laughing too
Looks like Richards is still doing much “personal work” Afro-Americans 😆
How did Drew Barrymore and Courtney Love not make this list????
@JDMime Fair enough but the flashing was probably the least bizarre part of Courtney Love's interview.
Perception of who made this one
The Crispin Glover one...he was in character. He was acting as his character Rubin from Rubin & Ed. Just Google Rubin and Ed and it should be exceedingly obvious lol
oh I love that Crispin were those pants! Those pants are famous. I think they go with the platforms. I think he borrowed them from mr. Farr. you just got to know him to appreciate him. He is who he is. You have to expect him to be awkward. Love him. Love the awkward genius.
I really like David Letterman’s interview with Madonna where she got out of her chair as though she was going to take Letterman on. Also, this was the most natural I’ve seen her in a long time.
And i thought Crispin Glober's George Mcfly character was just an act!
Madonna admitted she was high on weed during this interview, lol
No Oliver Reed ? Reed was going to kick the shit out of him and Letterman was visibly scared .
Did Ye Aye ? That was extremely uncomfortable. However, Reed was known for drinking heavily, and did not stop or slow down for interviews, which he hated doing sober. He would assault female guests (kissing and touching them) rant, and notoriously did a bit in which he pulled his pants down and shuffled around. I’m sure the Letterman staff knew this, and had him on because he was a hell raiser.
That was priceless!
@@jdsteppenzyde Yes, anything and anyone outrages will be booked, like Reed and Madonna, to get the show higher ratings (money ! )
The Richardson interview was a disaster. Seinfeld telling people not to laugh was so awkward.
It made me laugh harder. I watched that one live, and when he said afro american I lost it.
Dan: He did him self no favors and neither did Jerry.
theoden: He must made it MORE obvious that he's used to saying the "n" word, instead.
dakritic: There is absolutely NO WAY he can ever recover from the tirade he went on during his stand-up act. He's really ruined Seinfeld reruns for me.
@@arx754this comment is cringe worthy. It never even crosses my mind when watching
I remember the Madonna interview. It was very hilarious. It was payback for all the jabs Letterman took on Madonna over the years.
I remember that show with Jerry Seinfeld. I loved the way he told the audience to stop laughing. It wasn’t funny at all.
Glover was great because he totally made Letterman the background. Dave using that drowning line was like his last gasp before he went under for good, then the shoe came.
B-O-R-I-N-G! 95% commentary, 5% actual clips.
😂😂😂😂
Crispin Glover is such a cutie-pie, Letterman always loved to mock everyone, what a despicable host!
Not including the Harvey Pecar interview is unacceptable.
I really need to see the full interview to fully understand what's going on. NO, it's not enough to ' tell ' me what happened in Madonna's interview, I want to hear it, F - word by F - word if necessary, otherwise all I have are the little wee bits and snippets that you've given us that really, really don't tell the story. Dam, now I've got to look up all these interviews to find out what actually happened. Well, at least you've pointed me in the right direction, I'll give you that much.
Just UA-cam the interview dude....not hard!
Patrick: Breaking News! I don't think the person who made this video cares. And, the rest of us don't either. You souund like a little kid who has decided he needs to do extra homework and is complaining about it, but you, yourself, assigmed yourself the homework...
A lot of Madonna's career is based on her being controversial or to try and get a reaction...it's not like she can actually sing.
actually
Actually she CAN sing AND dance! Get it straight
Madonna is that drunk girl at a party flashing herself and yelling about feminism. Meanwhile way more talented women were ignored since they weren’t the loud drunk girl
If video hadn't killed the radio star Madonna would still be waiting tables. She took advantage of MTV's Dawn.
Crispin Glover looked more like a Napoleon Dynamite extra 🤣😅
Crispin Glover in his second appearance on Letterman showed his doll collection in which he had assembled dolls from different original Doll parts and they were disturbing. The way he laughed and clapped at Letterman's Disturbed reaction was cringeworthy. Leatherman ended by saying this at least was better than his first appearance, showing maybe 5 mm between index finger and thumb, "by this much".
If I was within arms reach of letterman I'd be uncomfortable too
Definitely missed Marilyn Manson's first late night interview. The first 2 mins were quite uncomfortable for both, I think.
The guy in the thumbnail looks like he is ultron undercover 😂💯
In an alternate reality, Crispin Glover is a prolific serial killer
You forgot the MOST UNCOMFORTABLESTEST ONE of them all: Robert de Niro & Dustin Hoffman
Letterman literally interviewed people in a way that seemed to attempt to mock them or make them look bad without caring about how it affected them or made them feel. Yeah, don't necessarily kiss up to anyone, but passive aggressive behavior trying to be passed as humor is disgusting and manipulative to say the least. I've never liked Letterman.
Chloe: All any guest he had on needed to do was have a sense of humor and not take themselves so seriously. I've never seen Letterman act mean or rude to guests who are "nice" people. Act like a jerk on his show, and you're fair game. And, btw, all of his guests appeared willingly, and yes, it was a BIG DEAL to be invited as a guest on his show.
So you’re super uptight?
@@arx754 well said
Literally
Correct. Letterman was a horse's ass, nothing more.
Gotta love the big ole close-up of Crispin Glover on the thumbnail
Great Witt Dave, keeping it real live ❤ miss you
All this time I thought the Crispin Glover thing was a set piece, silly me.
I think Madonna was having fun.
She totally was! And she continues having fun with Dave over the years at other events and so did he, they were both having a lark with each other, thats showbiz and good chemistry right there;)
Right?better than a boring interview
@@Selkie7 Filthy and Crude, Foul-Mouthed talking does Not a Fun Show make !
This is one of those videos that’s been done every month by every channel... drew Barrymore, crispin Glover, Madonna, Phoenix, the guy on the thumbnail. We all know who’s gonna be on this list because this is the 30th one done
"Let's check the accuracy." Has scope and a grip, but proceeds to shoot it with one hand like it's a Mac 10.

I remember when that Crispin Glover thing happened me and a buddy of mine we're tripping on acid and we could not figure out whether this was real or he was serious but then suddenly did realize that it was real when Crispin through the kick towards Dave's face and they went right to television commercial and when they came back Crispin was no longer there
Good old acid and crispin Glover
It was 100% real.>Crispin is certifiable. They made the right choice to cast him as WILLARD
* a buddy of mine were (past tense of 'are'). We're=we are.
Glover played a character from a movie he was in at the time.....genius marketing.
Drew Barrymore climbing on Daves desk and flashing him should have been at the top of this list.
That ending was the funniest ha ha ha
As much as I enjoy the explanation of the videos, it would also be nice to see the full clip
It's obvious Crispin was trying to annoy Letterman on his second appearance
The golden rule in making good film is not to “tell”but to “show”. I wanted to see difficult Letterman interviews I didn’t want to hear a lady describing difficult Letterman interviews how ridiculously inane
The greatest riddle in humanity's history is how this man came to be regarded as funny.
What you like Leno?
Don't give up. Maybe one day you'll get it.
A lot of the old school comics of the 80s and early 90s actually regard Leno and Letterman as 2 of the greatest. I think the problem was they got too comfortable in their lives/jobs which makes a comic stale and not as edgy or funny
Amen, freaking amen.
lettermen was genius. and i don’t even like him as a person
16th chapel 😂😂😂 he's a genius
He really isn't
@@rob_3417 sarcasm my dear
Tracy Frederick No he’s a twat
@@robpearce8225 doesn't anyone recognize sarcasm ? You're way too literal minded.
It's "Sistine" not 16 lol
True story, Glubber picked up on me at Sundance Party, he sat down next to me and said "hi", and I said "aren't you skinny thin man?" and he got right up and walked away, lol! Sorry Gulper!
But Crispin Glover was in a character called "Rubin Farr" because he was promoting the film "Rubin & Ed", in which Rubin is one of the protagonists
Chapels 1 thru 15 are not as impressive as the 16th...
i don't like bieber but that was borderline assault.
Fidel Guevara
Seriously, so uncalled for.
Good
Agreed, Im no Beiber fan but that was just completely inappropriate and Letterman was being a douche.
Yup. He should have walked off the show imo
No it wasn't, beaver was just making sure he didn't touch a new tattoo. Now go back to your shithole country.
I guess that when it comes to tattoos, Bieber is trying to become the bubblegum pop version of the late Johnny Winter. Except that Johnny Winter had, ummmm...what's the word? Ah yes, TALENT!
Can't believe you didn't include his interviews with Cher, Oliver Reed, or Harvey Pekar.
Think McFly, think !
Each time Justin Bieber is in pain a angel gets its wings
Lmao
Lol
Thank you, that was funny, I may use that in conversations.
I know it’s fashionable to hate on this guy, but that’s a cheap shot.
@@johntechwriter Every time someone takes a cheap shot at Justin Bieber, an angel gets It's wings.
weird how they dont show much of the interviews
No one in history will ever play George Mc Fly as good as Crispin Glover. I think it's safe to say in "Back to the Future", Crispin Glover wasn't acting, he was playing himself. This list should also include the weird interview with Johnny Depp saying "Uh... I don't know."
Madonna is crazy AF lol
And you could be too, just try drugs. Lots and lots of drugs.
The following evening, he has Charles Grodin on. He gave Letterman a pair of his boxer shorts.
She's not on drugs. She's very calculated and great at getting press. She knows what she is doing. A week later she was with Letterman at the MTV awards and he walked her out on stage and said something like Honey watch your mouth tonight. They got more press off that.
@@bluedragon4 nah... I didn't mean to say that she's on drugs... is just that every time I see this interview it cracks me up lol
It was one more publicity stunt. Around that time she went too far in the provocation and folks were bored with it.
i THOUGHT THEY'D ACTUALLY SHOW THE INTERVIEWS, BUT IT WAS JUST A LOT OF BAD-TALKING.,
It doesnt even include the one female actress who told letterman "You're toast."
You left out one of the most awkward: his interview with G. Gordon Liddy from the Watergate scandal. Letterman was trying to get a rise out of Liddy like he usually does to guests, but Liddy wouldn't have any of it. Letterman asked Liddy if he was afraid of anything. And Liddy leaned in and said "I'm definitely not afraid of you!" Looking like he was going to punch Letterman in the face or something. Letterman turned red, then the producers cut to commercial. It was AWESOME! I think it really upset Letterman because you can't find that interview online ANYWHERE. I've looked. That was definitely one of the most awkward. I hope you can find it.
G. Gordon Liddy on Letterman, June 3, 1982 Just type this into You Tube found it in about 20 seconds.
Zero actual footage, endless mind-numbing narration. Too bad I can only downvote once.
Letterman was to arrogant for our liking ... Paul Shaffer was annoying
Freedom F: You voted for Trump, right?
I liked an episode I believe from the early 80s when Cher appeared on Letterman's show, telling him she heard that he was basically an a******. Letterman tried to be funny and make a joke about it but she basically came on his show to tell him that, remained professional, and answering a couple of his questions. The episode felt like it ended up just making Letterman look like another average host. It was good awkward for Letterman versus the guest.
with the kaufman incident it was all set up and they were all in on the play; you left the best part out where andy threw coffee on lollard and letterman says that while you can swear on tv. what you can't do is throw coffee
Keep it simple! Less is more. Your constant narration over and over is tiring..!
Of all he interviewed, there's only one to grow a grizzly beard and hide from the public.
Careful.
Letterman is in the woods hiding behind a tree.
He's just taking a shit.
Show me , don't tell me, Ive heard this all before, show me don't tell me , lets sail this ship to shore!
I remember the show when it first aired
for God' s sake just be quiet and present the interviews . Believe it or not, we are capable of interpreting them ourselves.
drew barrymore coked out of her head should’ve been on here
I remember that one. She really made Letterman's night.
How old was she at the time roughly?
@@mauricepalmer834 I think she was 19 or 20 at the time.
Was that the one where she stood up on a chair and flashed him?
@@noemistephanie93 Yes, she did a little dance for him, climbed up on his desk and let the girls out.
Any of you who think that most of these weren't planned in advance are just far too gullible.
I love the Jim Morrison reference
Knowing what we know now about Letterman, I dont blame these celebrities for doing some of these things. If you haven't heard, The ONLY time Letterman would speak to his guest is when they were not on commercial break. Imagine that, imagine sitting there talking and laughing with the guy then cut to commercial break and he just sits there and will not say a word to you... I used to like Letterman but the last 10 years of his show were 9 1/2 years longer than it should have stayed on the air.
Ron Just Ron I’ve been to his show. He usually gets up and takes his coat off and walks around, does not chat with guests. Maybe he thinks it’s better not too for sake of spontaneity? Or not.
Karen's - I could understand the spontaneity aspect, but from what people have said, he treats his guests bad even when not filming and before they go on stage. Who really knows, right? I loved his show back in the day but since he became political I stopped watching. I don't care what a celebrities political view is, right or left, just keep your view off of my TV or out of my CD player. Im a Conservative, I don't like that Ted Nugent constantly talks politics even though I agree with him. I sure as hell don't want to hear any of those women from the View's opinion on or off the air lol.
Ron Just Ron jj

shut up punk
When Crispin Glover comes back for his second interview, he looks exactly like Paula Poundstone!!!
His interview with Farrah Fawcett was cringeworthy.
You should change the title to: "Me talking about the most uncomfortable Letterman interviews ever. I have all of the videos, but I just love hearing myself talk."
It would be good if you just showed the clips instead of talking all the way through it & showing stills.
Remember - You're NOT the star here.
Crispin Glover was just cooked is all.
