My question is how are people just now discovering Joaquin Phoenix? He’s been in other iconic films besides Joker. A couple of my favorites are Gladiator and Walk the Line.
Caitlin Joy That's because the majority of "people" are kids of this generation who have probably not seen his other films. But I agree with you. It's kinda annoying
You MUST see _The Master_ If you liked Joker, I can almost guarantee you'll love this movie ! Joaquin plays a somewhat Arthur Fleck-ish type guy who gets wooed into a Scientology-like cult headed by Philip Seymour Hoffman's character. Two of the best actors of this generation, directed by another great - Paul Thomas Anderson !!
He actually insulted his movie lol. He was being sarcastic about there being lines in the first place. I’ve heard this movie bombed at the box office. Joaquin laughed in a “touché - ya got me there” kind of way.
Notice how he reacts to the praise of Letterman and the audience clapping? Unimpressed by his own status. He doesn't let things like praise get under his skin because he knows what's important and he knows how to nourish his soul. With the right things. He sees through things. This is what I call a man. A complete man. He's my favorite actor in Hollywood.
+Mick Funny . . . And? Let's put aside for the moment that River Phoenix is dead, and therefore, incapable of being "proud" of anything, since a necessary (although not sufficient) prerequisite for being proud is, well, *being* in the first place. With that out of the way, my older siblings don't have *any* films, let alone any *good* ones. They're not even actors! Does that mean they're *not* proud of me? Does that mean they're not *capable* of being proud of me? Does that mean they're not *entitled* to be proud of me? Does that mean their pride is *worthless? Undeserved? Artificial?* Your comment doesn't make any sense.
Mick Funny Believe me, River accomplished more in his life than you ever will. And when you're dead, love, your memory won't resonate with people around the world like his has. Funny how you have the nerve to call out someone so loved like River. By the way, how many of River's films have you seen? Have you seen Running on Empty? Probably not, because you're the type of person who's uneducated enough to make comments with no credence whatsoever. Until you see almost ALL of River's films, don't go throwing out insults at him. Believe me, I'll be defending him until I take my last breath.
Dave should have him on his show that's on Netflix. That would be an awesome interview! I just have loved Joaquin for years now and am happy that now the rest of the world loves him too!
Sharon McHugh I think Joaquin would do that show if Dave asked him to do it. They respect each other and have a weird but highly enjoyable energy between them. Let this happen ASAP.
@@kd2289 I would love to see Dave have him on the show on Netflix. I have watched several episodes of it and enjoy the fact that there's much more time to conduct the interview, it's more relaxed then the usual talk show format, it's uncensored and he asks more personal questions about those he's interviewing. It honestly feels like you really get to know the person being interviewed and you learn more about their backgrounds and family life. And you also learn more about Dave himself as he chats about things he may have in common with the guest. I'd really love to see Joaquin interviewed! I hope Dave has him on. I've watched almost all of the episodes from the 2 seasons and I am looking forward to seeing a new one.
I remember being obsessed with this when it happened and more than ten years later it's still such a fun watch. Letterman was the perfect host for this. If Joaquin had gone on Leno, he would have been too timid to take any jabs at him, but this was right up Dave's alley. I think he was being facetious with the legal threats but the comments definitely got Phoenix off guard a bit.
One of the great actors of our time that we get to watch excel at his craft. I just saw a movie from 2012 called "The Master" directed by Paul Thomas Anderson .Joaquin and Phillip Seymour Hoffman were both brilliant!
I think if Joaquin was upfront originally and talked to Dave to do the interview in character then Dave would have played along. People go on these shows to promote things, obviously. But when you put the host in that kind of spot by acting like that and not saying anything about it beforehand is rude. Then for Joaquin to basically say he thought Dave would have been smart enough to figure out what he was doing...That's when Dave really didn't let it go. First Joaquin makes a fool of his appearance then a year and a half later insults the host...yeah, I think I'd be kinda fuck you-ish if I were Dave.
@@SpideyScott72 I dont think that what the person was talking about at all but to respond to that point of view, If Joaquin would have just told Dave what was going to happen then he wouldn't get a genuine reaction from David and the interview would have gone differently and people would probably be able to make out that it was just a character so it would kinds ruin everything really and it was great promotion cause everyone wanted to see wtf was going on and plus millions of people watched that interview over and over again so it's a win win
@@Jorozco3708 I'm pretty sure Dave had been in the biz long enough to know how to play along. If you invite me to a party and I act like a dick, odds are as the party host you'll be slightly embarrassed and probably pissed. If I told you ahead of time I'm going to be a dick to see what people's reaction will be, you can either choose to say sure let's see where it goes, or no that's not what I want at my party. It shows you respect as the host rather than putting you in an awkward position. That said, I do think on the first point it's what the poster meant so we clearly have differing views which is perfectly fine.

@@jessequest8575 yep. I bet he'll bring his own thing. I've seen his thing in his previous movies. He's got a thing!
Yeah, Heath is a tough act to follow, but if he does even half as well, then Joker will be good.
Two different jokers
J Molvin Heath joker is like going back to fantasy land. This joker in 2019 is the most realistic movie ever
You also watching as many Joaquin interviews as possible? Starting to believe his inspiration for his pain on Joker came from irritating talk show hosts..
I would love to see Lettermans reaction to watching Joker 😂😂😅
Cesar he’s busy making Netflix shows with Obama
are you not paying attention he plays a character in interviews
@@Berlinwood27 true, but that doesn't make the talk show hosts any less irritative
@@crookedgooner Granted here it was partially planned I 100% agree. miss david letterman
My question is how are people just now discovering Joaquin Phoenix? He’s been in other iconic films besides Joker. A couple of my favorites are Gladiator and Walk the Line.
And her
And To Die For which came out in 1995. That film was my first introduction of him and I couldn't shake off how dark his character was.
@@Sharky165 Love that film! He's brilliant in it. Have you seen "You Were Never Really Here"?
Presence of mind - “I hate standing in line”. How he complimented the movie and gave reason for not seeing the movie.
He actually insulted his movie lol. He was being sarcastic about there being lines in the first place. I’ve heard this movie bombed at the box office. Joaquin laughed in a “touché - ya got me there” kind of way.
Rachel Trainor Joaquin made the joke first, saying Dave was the only one in America who hasn’t seen it.
One of a kind. I´m talking both of them
Vincent Knight Doesn't that make it two of a kind?
World Citizen they are different kinds
Vendrix ..which makes them two of two kinds?
subtletiger indeed. One is an asshole, the other is peculiar but talented.
Vendrix burn
Notice how he reacts to the praise of Letterman and the audience clapping? Unimpressed by his own status. He doesn't let things like praise get under his skin because he knows what's important and he knows how to nourish his soul. With the right things. He sees through things. This is what I call a man. A complete man. He's my favorite actor in Hollywood.
What minute this happens?
Dave did do the best joke on that interview at the end "Well Jaoquin, I'm sorry you couldn't be here today!" Cracked me up so hard.
Joaquin is so sweet and genuine.
i'm really glad he's back and he is being hired for great roles again.
***** sag me
Windownsmp sag mer sammy
I like to think this weirder roles he got after were exactly because of this stunt. The right people appreciated it.
He is so handsome. Drop dead gorgeous.
So r you
Briann Johnson in your dreams. Get over yourself
Stop objectifying.
People tell me I have a resemblance to him.
Ladies, no need to fight over me. There are seven days in a week.
Saw that other interview and thought he was out of his mind. Had no idea that was a bit. This guy is incredible!
"You'll get the money somehow." Yeah, from the highest grossing R rated movie ever made
He looked so good nine years ago. He is incredible talented and I’ve always loved his voice!
Your big brother is so proud, I'm sure! :')
xstalkmedownn River Phoenix had one good film, Stand By Me
+Mick Funny . . .
Undeserved? Artificial?*
Your comment doesn't make any sense.
Mick Funny educate yourself, and watch My Own Private Idaho. He was also pretty great as young Indy
beflygelt yeah but young Indy was like a 10 minute scene in a great movie, Private Idaho was pretty good, but I didn’t think he was great...
Phoenix: "can we discuss this in private?"
Letterman:"We'll go to one of your screenings"
Peak form
lmao incredible
“I like you David, you were always nice to me”.
he seems like an interesting joker
That’s an understatement 😂
This comment has aged well
I-
Excellent
You time traveler
I can’t get enough of Joaquin now, only seen the trailer and he looks like he’s amazing in it ❤️
Hey am here too watching all his interviews
One of the best actors ever.
"Can we talk privately?""Yeah, we'll go to one of your screenings."OOOH! BURN!
+djguapo can i ask what Letterman means by that? I'm stupid.
+Kristina Bakke the movie bombed, was a total failure.
Nobody would be there, so he'd be the only one in the audience. Huge burn
that was kind of a low blow. i bet joaquin didnt like him very much after that.
+Dan Makabre I'm sure Joaquim thought it was a funny line. He was back on the show a couple years later, so I don't think there were any hard feelings
One of the great actors of our time that we get to watch excel at his craft. I just saw a movie from 2012 called "The Master" directed by Paul Thomas Anderson .Joaquin and Phillip Seymour Hoffman
were both brilliant!
This is his best talk show interview in forever
Joaquin is an artist in a very pure sense.
First movie I saw of him was in gladiator and he really caught my eye. Never forgot.
Joaquin is a beautiful and rare creature.
He is such a nice looking man an very talented. Plus he favors my oldest son.🤗
Ironically Letterman has turned into that character that Phoenix portrayed on his previous visit
@Sam Sguanch it's just you
I think if Joaquin was upfront originally and talked to Dave to do the interview in character then Dave would have played along.
Scott Fearncombe the original comment was about letterman in 2019 and how he now has the crazy beard and shit like Joaquin did
6:14 That "risk" got him the Joker role... and it's glorious.
Once in a generation actor.
And also a truly Mensch.
Dave now has a massive beard, and acts like a recluse. Interesting.
At 70, ok. But not like 30s.
lol, he's just joking
