  • The goal of this FG Knot Tutorial is to show how to tie, in detail the FG knot (aka sebile knot). It's so easy you can do it without using your teeth and without anchoring any of the lines.
    In part one I go into detail how to lay down the wraps using this method.

      Guess what? He’s actually teaching, not showing off. I may be a pretty dim bulb, but I appreciate how he slowed it down. This method is different than some that have you holding the line in your teeth while hanging upside down and using your feet. He takes the time to clearly explain what to do, and just as importantly what not to do when tying it with this method, and why.
      This is where I learned to tie the FG, and while it’s slow and methodical, I’m tying it at a 100% success rate. I’ve never had one tied like this fail.
      You want quick, there’s lots of guys out there who want to show you how good they are at it instead of breaking it down like this.
      Seems to me a lot of you are more interested in wasting your time typing negative comments than learning to tie the knot.

    This method of tying the FG knot has really been a game changer for me. I have been using this method of tying the FG knot for the past year and it has excelled, thanks again for this video Nick.I was able to take my FG knot tying time from about 5min to 2min and less.

  • @jetcat132

    I tie the FG with this method exclusively. My regular set up is 20 lb. Sufix 832 braid to 12 lb. fluoro or mono, and once I figured it out, I have never had one fail. I even use it for 10 lb braid to 8 lb fluoro on drop shot rigs, and haven’t had any issues.
    I think the key to tying it with light lines is to slow down, and after each wrap give a couple gentle tugs at 90 degrees to insure the wraps are snugged.
    I religiously inspect my line, leader, and knot, and if I even suspect there’s an issue, I retie, especially after a long day fishing. But overall, this knot and method of tying it have been terrific.

    My go to knot when setting things up. If I'm out on the water and have to make another connection for what ever reason I just tie a Double Uni as I find it a lot easier when dealing with wind, bouncing boat and everything else going on at the moment while out on the water. This is a Fantastic knot and I have gotten very good use out of it

      I've seen it. Excellent video. I just don't like using teeth to hold my line. If i'm chunking flats of butterfish or sardines, bunker....my hands are nasty...last thing I want to do is put anything in my mouth that I don't have to. Part of why this method is so great. No need to put a rod in the holder or anchor any line.
      I find myself turning to the PR knot though over the FG. Bobbins are no longer 100$. ANd it's a better connection and easier to get max strength consistently. The FG is a 70% to 80% abs knot...the PR can get almost close to 90-100%
      SO your 50lb braid that breaks in the 80lb rang on the PR can be fished as if it's 80lb.
      Or for FW...you can tie a trilene or polomar or pretty much any knot...and not break off your leader when hung up. Always pops at the terminal knot with the pr.....not always the case with a FG when using stronger terminal knots like a double uni/ polomar/ miller

    Every time I've seen the fg tied this way it's done in stages,they will do 6 rap's form the knot another 6 raps form the knot and the last 6 that way the whole knot knot tightens down properly and not just the last raps, there's a couple of kiwis that do a show called big angry fish and they have a how to tie the fg knot on utube, its worth checking out in

    fg is cool if you're at home tying knots but , i don't have time for it on the water when the fish are biting.. i've never had a properly tied uni or alberto fail while fishing , so that's what i use with braid..albright or uni when using mono.

      I just got back from a tuna run. 190 gallons burned to give ya an idea of the water covered. Had a spliced end loop get damaged by another hook. Cut it off and tied an FG knot.....took about 3 minutes to tie on 12 hours into the second day of an overnighter with 35 minutes of sleep in the wind on a rocking boat....lolol...But yeah. I generally tie the fg at home when i can. And Alberto knot when in most fishing situations.

I'm glad that even after a little end game mishap my 100% hook to landed streak remains intact! I even broke my pb mako earlier that night with a 7 to 8 footer! I have most of it on video. But while it's crystal clear the angle wasn't great. as I set up the camera while I was casting to tuna breaking on the surface. Slow trip to start. But awesome finish

    Just my experience: this doesn’t work with light leaders. Can’t cinch it down. My typical saltwater bass setup is 20lb braid to 12lb fluoro leader, you absolutely need tension on the braid to successfully tie in that case, the fluoro just slips out otherwise. The Alberto also works flawlessly on the same setup, with an extremely low profile. I tie a tensioned FG at home, or an Alberto on the kayak. I am not suggesting this method doesn’t work, but with lighter gear, it has not worked for me. I use 20lb power pro and yo-zuri 12lb leader, would be happy to see if and how it can be done reliably this way.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  6 років тому +2

      I agree 100% With light leaders under 20lbs I have trouble stacking the wraps. I find the PR knot to be easier than the FG with the lighter stuff. I'll even use the daichii fg knotter for light braid and leaders.

    You know this video is good as far as showing how to tie the knot. But id like to see you do it with line that's more realistic for everyday anglers. Using your method with 15 pound mono instead of the super stiff 60 pound is a LOT harder than these videos make it out to be. The mono just folds every time you attempt to loop a wrap over it.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  6 років тому

      I see what you're saying. And this method while some have no issues using it with lighter lines....I punt and use other methods or knots. I like this method for surf casting situations and anything using 20lb leader and up. For lighter lines from 4lb to 15lb used to use the Daichii knot assist. But have scrapped the FG knot altogether for light line. Figured if i need a tool for ease of tying..i might as well go with a stronger knot and tie a pr. There really isn't an easy FG knot for light line. Easy being a sub 2 minute tie

    Is an Alberto a good knot to tie for quick leader attachment on the lake or do you think I should tie a different knot. Thanks, WHile I like filming while fishing. I often fish at night, and if im out during the day. The last thing I want to do is expose where I'm at. Whethere it's here or on the forums I post on. I never post a pic that can give up my spot. And since I'm a global mod on a forum with strict anti spot burn rules...I edit many posts that blow up spots.
      And maybe since i'm in my mid 30's. And i didn't grow up filming and posting everything I do on social media. Filming everything kinda takes the fun out of it. My goal really isn't to be a live vicariously through me fishing channel. but I'll post a few. I just got back from a tuna run. And broke my personal best Tuna. Took me 200 tuna to do it!!!! I'll post up the vid once i get it edited.
      I plan on doing quite a few aid videos. I didn't originally but I see so many bad ones with misinformation on youtube. I think it would be a good idea

    Been learning a lot from your videos. But will have to say, I just don't understand why anyone wastes their time on this knot. The Alberto knot tests on average 95+%, and takes a quarter of the time. On top of that, I have read so many complaints of this knot slipping. I figure this knot is extremely easy to mess up, or cause of the slickness of the newer braids, is not reliable.

    • @TackleAdvisors
      @TackleAdvisors  7 років тому

      Good I'm glad!
      I use the Alberto for much of the fishing I do. But it's not close to a 95% knot from what I've seen. Especially when considering ABS (actual break strength of lines)
      I guarantee most who have problems slipping. Hand tighten the knot without gloves, dowel or cinching tools.
      I've had issues with j braid slipping on fluoro. But that is because it was not cinched tight.
      I wouldn't use an alberto when tuna fishing. FG and PR are the closest you can get to a spliced connection.
      If i'm using 40 or 50lb braid to a 40 or 80lb leader chasing bass and bluefish. I have no need for an fg, Alberto all the way. But if i'm using 20lb braid for more distance. I"ll FG
      If I'm using 5lb or 10lb braid for fw fishing. And 8lb fluoro or mono. I"ll tien an FG so that The uni knot(terminal end knot) breaks and I don't have to retie a leader.

    • @Hisslave1
      @Hisslave1 6 років тому

      "Most who have problems slipping hand tighten". Probably, however, I lost what might've been a tournament winning kingfish on a "properly" tightened knot that slipped. One loss of a fish like that is one too many.

      JLC JLC it’s all about the smoothness as it goes into the guides also definitely the strongest line to line connection knot, if you are fishing in that salt for fish like tarpon and snook you want a knot you can but a ton of pressure on and and goes through the guides smooth, uni to uni doesn’t cut it for the heavy and long leaders you need for tarpon, snook and offshore fishing too.
