Replace a Blend Door Actuator - Buick Enclave, Chevy Traverse, GMC Acadia, Saturn Outlook, mode door

- This video shows you how to replace the rear Blend door actuator or mode actuator for a 2008-2017 GM SUV built on the Lambda platform which includes the Buick Enclave, Chevrolet (Chevy) Traverse, GMC Acadia, and Saturn Outlook. My blend door actuator was always stuck on hot, this video shows how I diagnosed the hvac problem (including the blend door actuator noise that you should hear if it’s working properly) and then replaced the blend door actuator and calibrated it when replacing the blend door actuator didn’t completely fix the problem. I also had to replace the rear HVAC control unit to fix the problem, The OEM AC-Delco part number is 15-73666.

Thank you. You're the 1st video I've seen for this type of repair and very thorough. I'll try this myself, dealership quoted me $3600 for this alone. The part is cheap too.
Thanks! I found a few other videos, but none were real clear, I tried to be as thorough as possible and create the video wish would have existed before I did my repair. Good luck!
Nate, thank you so very much for a clear video on how to address this issue. Our AC was doing the same: blowing hot air only in the second row. Thanks to your video, I was able to address it and now we have nice cold air for our passengers. Thanks again!
Glad that I was able to help and you got it working again. Thanks for watching!
Brilliant! Thank you so much. I went into this job so much more informed and avoided hours worth of learning the hard way.
Glad that i could help, thanks for watching!
Nate!! Thanks!!! We live in Bahrain, the Middle East, Summer is coming and the rear AC has been out since last year!! Looked it up, found your video, ordered the parts, did the job, not easy, but done!!! One small difference, we've a 2009 Chevy Traverse LTZ and the screw that was supposed to be behind the rotating clip towards the front had been replaced by a clip.... Once I'd removed the rest I figured, what the heck, and pulled and it popped off!!! My daughter will be thrilled not to have to deal with just front AC when it hits 40C!! Thanks again!
Glad that I could help, but not as glad as your daughter will be! Thanks for watching.
@@NateFixesIt Hey Nate!! Happy Easter.... Well it worked for a while... Now it's blowing hot air again. Door actuator is working, changing the air flow direction. So am I looking at the controller?
@@carlash4160 might be, it’s not tough to replace the controller. Check out my video for that! Happy Easter!
@@NateFixesIt Hey Nate, thanks for getting back in touch, and hope you had a great day! not sure of the direction, but at least, FINDING a replacement controller is problematic. I don't have the one in your video, as the vehicle is the LTZ trim. It incorporates a remote radio/audio interface as well as the A/C & Heater controls.. Have you any sources (other than Amazon & E-Bay) that I could try? Thanks again for the support!!
@@carlash4160 do you know what part number you need? I’m guessing it’s a part similar to this one: www.ebay.com/itm/195379705688?mkcid=16&mkevt=1&mkrid=711-127632-2357-0&ssspo=kxdl_yufs3g&sssrc=2349624&ssuid=00bSM-PSTQ2&var=&widget_ver=artemis&media=COPY given your location, how hard is it to get things shipped to you?
Super helpful. What a PITA. I need to do this in my Enclave rear and front. Not looking forward to it. It's 101F outside.
Good luck!
GREAT HOW TOO, NATE YOU NAILED IT.
Thank you!
Thank you so much for this video. I have a 2008 Saturn Outlook XR, that only blew warm to hot air. This video was a lifesaver. Some things here and there are slightly different, but it was close enough to get my job done. Amazing attention to detail. Especially with the calibration part. I would have missed that. I wish you had that little button enabled that let me give you thanks. Either way, keep up the good work.
Glad that I was able to help. Thanks for watching!

Saved my life!!!! Thank you for this video!

I have the opposite problem, only cold air. I cannot hear the sound of the actuator from the back seat, does it means that part is broken? Thank you!
If you’re only getting cold air, and no sound when using the actuator, it’s probably a bad actuator, just stuck in the opposite position.
Hey Nate, I have an 09 Enclave whose back ac doesn’t work whatsoever. Any idea what’s that could be? The front works great just nothing coming from the rear.
Because you have AC in the front, it’s not a leak or compressor issue, because that would effect both. There are a couple possibilities: it could be a bad control unit, a bad rear fan, the blend door stuck in the wrong position, or a clogged rear expansion valve, orifice tube, or AC line. This video shows more about dealing with the clogs if that is your problem: ua-cam.com/video/eFQSiToWkuE/v-deo.htmlsi=dHaYXnUQ9IVJGT7f
Do you know if this is the same for the 2018 gmc Acadia
The Acadia was redesigned prior to 2018. I don’t know if the procedure is the same, sorry.
What year is your enclave? I currently have a 2017 enclave premium. Hopefully i dont get all these issues😬
2011, you should have some time!
@@NateFixesIt should have time for what?🤔
@@rhurtadorh32you should have 5 years or more until you have to worry about this on your vehicle
2015 traverse only blows hot air in the back seats. we can hear a grinding sound randomly which also stops the cold from blowing up front also. do i need 2 different doors? one up front and one in back? or is there only 1
Where is the grinding sound coming from?
@@NateFixesIt under the dash. i think its actually more of a weezing pressure release sound that changes the cold air to hot in the front cabin occasionally.
@@danirutledge7242have you listened for the blend door and mode door in the rear to see if yours are responding to the controls? The video shows what they should sound like about a minute in.
I have not done that yet. It is actually on my daughters traverse, and when we get it over to the house to do the work on it I plan to listen back there. But it does not have any cold air ever go back there only hot.

Good luck with your repair!
Awesome video! My 2013 Enclave blows perfect cold air in the front driver and passenger. But just warm air in the back. Im gonna order the part and try it. Thank you!
Your amazon link says it does not fit my 2013 Enclave. Is that right?
Thanks for the comment, that’s the exact situation I had! Good luck!
@@NateFixesIt i replaced the actuator and it did not fix the problem. It wont blow cold. Just warm air. And if I raise the temperature, it will blow hotter.
@@JoseMartinez-bs8oi is the actuator moving through the full range of positions?
@@NateFixesIt I am assuming. I raised the temperaturw to 90 and it blows really hot. I lowered it to 60 and its just warm. Does not get cold. I also messed with the direction air blows and it send it to the feet or head perfectly fine. I tried the resetting of the HVAC system how you said but I have the digital display. A little different. But I disconnected the battery, removed the fuse and still nothing.
@@JoseMartinez-bs8oi if it’s alternating between warm and hot, then the blend door is probably working and you may have an different issue. Check out this video and try the hot/cold touch test on the HVAC lines going to the rear. m.ua-cam.com/video/Z2h3ewDYB2o/v-deo.html
I also suggest checking the air temperature coming out of the AC in the front to see how cold it actually is and if you have gauges, your AC refrigerant pressures.
Are the two actuators the same? The tempature and the directional, are they the same?
Yes, they are the same actuator and same replacement procedure. You can even swap your existing ones around to help with trouble shooting.
@@NateFixesIt Thanks Nate you the man!
Replaced this and still have warm/ hot air in the back but ice cold in the front. HELP!!!!!!!
When you cycle the rear control from hot to cold, is there any sound coming from the blend door actuator? Can you hear it moving the damper? If your mode door actuator (the switch to direct airflow from feet to overhead vents) is working, it should sound similar.
