In this video, i go over the step by step process on how to replace the blend door actuator on a 2012 GMC Acadia. Procedure should be the same for 2007-2018 may be some slight differences but over all same concept. what happens is that inside the actuator, the gear breaks and when it tries to move the blend door, it cant.

I called our local 'honest' auto repair shop for a quote on doing this job. I even told them about this great video and how quickly the job had been done. The owner quoted me a flat $1300 (plus part), no matter how short or long a job it would be "because that's what it's worth". Yikes! My son, who has ZERO experience working on cars, decided to see if he could do this repair job. He has done literally nothing to a car in his life beyond checking the oil stick. He watched this video, went to Home Depot and bought a little headband lamp to wear for light and the needed tools that were described in the video, and dug in. In under two hours, he had done the complete repair, had the A/C working like a dream, and had everything put away. I repeat - he has had NO EXPERIENCE whatsoever working on cars or any other equipment, and did in two hours and for under $70 in parts and tools, what the local 'reasonably priced' shop quoted a flat $1300 to repair. Eddie, thank you SO much for this VERY well done, easy to follow video. You literally saved us over $1200!

Did you access by going under the glove box?
Your video was very informative, and very detailed. However, you made it look a lot easier than it actually is. This may be do to your mechanical skill or my lack of them. I did get the job finished and everything is now working how it should. I however am an assortment of busted buckles and assorted scrapes. The children in the neighborhood got an advanced class in profanity and watching a grown man throw a fit. All in all you did make it where I was able to fix my own car, and for that I thank you.

Oh my god, thank you so much for this video! I was living without my upper and lower vents for 4 months through the winter and dreaded trying to get in there and mess around but you really broke it down nicely step by step. I took it to a mechanic, he said it was the climate control panel. I replaced the panel with no luck. I then took it to a dealership to see if it was indeed my blend door actuator (it was) and they wanted to charge me $1200. $1200!!!!! Did the passenger temp actuator today in my 2011 Buick Enclave.
Wasn’t working quite right, but once I did the recalibrate it works fine now. I’ve now replaced both of the ones on the passenger side, I’m expecting the driver’s side one to go out any minute.

@@taurusposey it should be close to your right shin if you are sitting on the driver's seat. There might be a plastic covering it but it looks the same as the passenger side one. So just look under the dash from the driver side and look to your right and search for a part that looks like the actuator shown in this video.
Great Video. It was a real pain in the XXX job. I ended using a 7/8 paddle bit and drilled a hole for easier access to the left side screw. The 15 Amp fuse came out with a needle nose pliers but was difficult to put back in because of GMs placement of the fuse box virtually no room to work with if you have big hands.I would recommend just disconnecting the battery to accomplish the same outcome I wish I had. The biggest obstacle is that you clearly cannot see what your working on in such a cramped space. Thats why the dealer wants to take the dash apart to get to the actuator and charge you big money in labor for the job.

Your help was great both actuators bad and successful on replacing. Only addition on Enclave plug in actuator before reinstalling and get rid of original screws and use #8 3/4 hex head so you can use socket and drill 1" hole in side to access one screw. Almost impossible to get plug in after installation, had to find a person with small hands to do it. I was quoted $1,000 dollars and I did job for $68 dollars with your help.

Add me to the list of "people who saved alot of money by watching this video". I sucessfully replaced the actuator and fixed the problem (which was a big problem in FL in July). I did drill a 3/4" hole in the panel to help with accessing the screw near the electrical socket/plug. Also put a small magnet on the end of the bit to help keep the screw from dropping. I think the hardest part was getting the fuse back in. Actually dropped one behind the carpet that I couldn't retrieve. Thanks for the tutorial!

Thx much for this video. Just finished my 09 Acadia. I need smaller hands but otherwise it worked well. FYI, I cut the hole with a 1”;hole saw and inserted a 1” white nylon plug I bought at Ace. Looks factory. Again, thx for it all. Saved me a ton of cash.

So I removed the harness and 3 screws but the actuator won’t pull straight out. Do you know why?

Followed these steps for my wife's 2014 Enclave. Step by Step wasnt easy because I have big hands but it did the trick and the air now blowing cold!!! Two things ... probably a good idea to watch once all the way through before starting ... I missed the trick about the dropped screws and had to find a replacement only to find your tip after I put it all back together; also, I never could get a good line up on the third screw even with a small wrench (because of my big hands) so I Drilled a 1" hole through the plastic to line up with the hole and then put a 1" access cover. You really don't need the cover since you can see the hole when the glove box is replaced.

@@carrollacademy38917 I have fixed another actuator door for a friend with an Acadia. This time I went straight to drilling a hole in the plastic so I could get a better angle at the screws. As before, the glove box hides the hole but I still put in a plastic hole cover that I picked up at Pep Boys and it looked factory. If I had to do it again I might even make the hole a bit larger to cut down on added aggravation.

The back vents a full system just as the front ones do. Should be located somewhere by the back hatch behind one of the panels. More than likely on passenger side. I wish I had another video to share to demonstrate

Thanks for sharing this video. The instructions were very precise and It saved me over $1000 from what the auto shop wanted to charge to replace. I did lose one of the T20 screws in the process and couldn't find a replacement locally. Anyone know a good place to find those?

@@gloriaalice2011 yes ofcourse, both actuators if my memory serves me right are both the same exact parts, they are just installed on 2 different locations but the parts should be the same. You would just need to order a quantity of 2.

you replaced the actuator? next i would check to see if the wiring is receiving any change of values with a digital volt meter. Chances are the temperature control panel has failed or the climate control module. i'm sorry to not have a definitive answer for you but those are some ideas.

You may have something inside thwre blocking the door from moving. Perhaps coins that get thrown in there by our children when they get curious. Ive seen it happen

I have a 2017 GMC Acadia, the air on the drivers side blows cold like it should, but the passenger side doesn't seem to get as cold. When I close the vents on the drivers side the passenger side air does get cold though. Do you think this is a blend door actuator issue, or something else? Thanks for any help you can provide!
It may still be the actuator because when you shut the vents on the other side, the cold air has to go somewhere so it goes to the other side

I’m curious if this is my problem, my ac blows cold just not as cold as I know it can be and the passenger side blows a little bit warmer, at first I thought you were to the right of the glove box but it seems you are to the left of it around the 7:00 mark

Hello, yes it will be the same part but it will be located on the other side instead of on the passenger side.

I've got a similar issue where Driver Side blows cold(ish) and passenger AND rear blow warm or hot. Do you know if the rear is controlled by the same blend door actuator for the passenger, or is there another somewhere else I should look in to? In the past I've had the actuator replaced by a dealer, as well as the rear evaporator core and motor replaced due to similar issues. Hoping it's not the rear evaporator core again.
There are 2 seperate units. One for the front and one for the rear AC in some vehicles. Unfortunately im not sure if the Acadia has 2 units or not. If there is a seperate heater core in the back of the vehicle then you DO have 2 units and there are actuators for the back as well wjen you have controls for the rear passengers
Great video! Which is the actuator for the drivers side? I have this problem, but it blows hot on the Drivers Side.
There should be an actuator under the dash on the driver side by your right leg in the same general area. I want to say that is the driver side actuator if I recall correctly. I would still remove it, then reconnect it while in your hands holding it and then try to change your settings on temperature to see if there is any movement.

I have 2015 Acadia with warm air on passenger side. I can see the blend door actuator moving back and forth when I move the temp wheel from 60 to 90 and back. Any ideas? Could it be low Freon? That would be my next try. Thanks in advance.
If it's warm air only on the passenger side then it's a blend door problem. Low free on would cause ALL vents to be warm
Low freon would cause ALL vents to blow warm air. This video is about one side of car blowing cold and other side blowing warm air
I just added Freon and it’s blowing 54f degrees. I agree with you, but it worked for me.

I have a 2016 Acadia 71000 miles. The rear core evaporator went bad while still under warranty around 25000 miles and was replaced. Do you think it is the rear and front passenger actuator if my rear ac started blowing warm air and then my front passenger did the same a week later? My drivers side is blowing cool air, but not 60 degrees. Now I just checked my ac again after turning off the ac and the car, turned car back on and ac, pushed the upper air flow and then the foot airflow controls, turned off the auto and inside circulation, now all are blowing cooler ac??? I have never liked how the ac in this car works. Dealer told us if we aren't getting cool air to turn ac down to 60 and then back up again to reset it. This usually works, but not this time. This is crazy. I've never had so many issues with ac in a car!
In the Acadia I believe there are 2 see rate units and they both have temperature actuators of course so that all passengers can have different temperatures. The actuators themselves work but it's one of he internal gears inside that gets a Crack and breaks over time. It's easy to open them up. All you need is a flat head screwdriver to open it up and inspect the gears. But yes it is likely that the actuators are failing at least ONE side blows cold. If the Ac itself was failing, none of the vents would be cold.

I had alternator replaced in 2012 acadia today and now having this prob but driver side is hot, could this be damaged from changing alternator?
This is my second question on this problem. Took the glove box and the black panel off and got a good look at the actuator razing and lowering the temp the blend door actuator does not move. this is my question, when I turn on the defrost that top actuator does not move and no strong air comes out of the defroster at the top. Are these two actuators tied together that the blend door works in tandem with the upper actuator? Or do you think there is another problem?
The control head which is the unit that has all the buttons to select temperatures and all that could be faulty and not sending the signals which can happen but also both actuators could have coincidentally failed at right around the same time. Without being there I would not be able to know for sure since I would need to check voltage to see if its getting power and ground and if its getting more/less signal whenever changes are made to the temperature. Watch a video on how to use a multimeter and you can find one cheap at walmart so you can gain knowledge on how to use it so you can test the wires. If you have power at the actuator connector and it changes when you change your temperature settings then you climate control head would be good meaning the actuator is bad. But if you dont see any of those values changing when you command it to change then its the control head.
Didn't work for me. Passenger side still blows hot. I pulled the fuse after to recalibrate just like the video. Any suggestions?
My wife’s has a 2011 Acadia. My wife’s problem is a little different. I think the actuator she has an issue with is the top one that you were referring to in the video. I was wondering if you could tell me the name of that so I can get the part. Her problem is not having any air at all hot or cold blow out of the dash. Thanks for the help.
It would just be called a blend door actuator. Even still, remlve the old one, drive to your auto parts store and compare the two just for extra reassurance. I hope I was able to help. And please click Subscribe to help my channel grow. Have an awesome day
I have a 2011 enclave it is winter and the drivers side blows hot correctly the passenger side blows cold from top and bottom vent. would it be the blend door actuator. Also just dropping the glove box and bottom panel looking at the actuator gray tube like gear not moving when you are going up and down on temp control tell you the actuator is bad?
Generally yes it usually indicates the actuator is non functional anymore.
I have a problem.The plastic actuator doesn't turnю I'm guessing something is stuck in A/C heater box.

The actuator inside consists of plastic gears. The gear teeth break over time. Actuator will need to be replaced

Your blend door may be stuck? Did you try moving it by hand to see if it worked?

Yes it is in the same position. I would still go with it because the actuator motor itself works, it's just that internally the gears are broken which makes it stay stuck in the hot position. I would remove it and move the blend door by hand
Maybe the door is obstructed I guess... I can see both actuators moving back and forth on passenger side when I move controls. But It WAS low on Freon, I bought a van with a meter and raised pressure up to upper blue area. It’s been good for about a month.
@@quovolez well you wouldn't see the actuator moving if it was obstructed. And depending on your weather conditions, say for example outside temperature is 75 degrees your blue (low side) should be reading around 30-40psi on the Guage with the car running and AC on.
Eddies Customs & Restorations yea, that’s what confused me. The blend door was evidently opening and closing fully, yet air was warmer on passenger side. I went back and forth checking the movement of actuators, making sure they fully rotated, and they did. It was really just because I was so frustrated that I bought a can of ac pro, and well it’s been back to normal since.
So is this actuator the same part for both drivers side and passenger? 2011 gmc Acadia…I have already removed the drivers side but ordered the ratchet to help remove the passenger side actuator

For the HVAC reset, you said don't touch for 40 seconds. Does it matter if the unit is turned on or should I make sure that the unit is turned off before I turn off the vehicle prior to the reset?

Ya... that wasn't fun. I finally got it off and did the test and the air on the passenger side still didn't get cold. It was cool but not cold like the driver side. I guess I have to take it in. Thanks so much for the video. It helped out a lot.

Great video. My issue is that my ac is blowing hot air instead of ac. The ac light does come on and was serviced and has refrigerant however it doesn’t get cool and blows extremely hot air. Could this be an actuator as well or something else? Please advise and any if all help is greatly appreciated.
Yes very well can be the same issue. This vehicle had perfect working AC except that it was stuck on heater because of the actuator being bad

Good video. Have a question. I turned my ac on and now it wont switch back to heat. It is same across the entire front. Is this where i would start? 2011 Acadia
In this case It would require testing with the use of a multi meter. You would want to check the plug where the actuator plugs to and see if the climate control panel (where you control heat and AC) is actually sending the signal to change the position of the actuator. Chances are since they are ALL not changing, it will be a bad control panel but it require testing to be sure as I mentioned

If you did and you can still not change the temperature your problem can be somewhere else like in the actual controls. That whole piece where you select the temperature can be bad BUT in this case i don't want to mislead you since I am not physically there to check it. Unfortunately I recommend for you to take it to a mechanic shop and have them figure out the problem. I wouldnt want to tell you to change a part without testing it and it not being the problem.

Should be next to the drivers right foot when sitting in the driver seat. It should look just like the passenger side actuator

Hi I change the blend door actuator and the driver side is still blowing hot air what do I do to fix the problem
There is another blend door actuator for the drivers side. This video was for the passenger side vents. This was on a customers vehicle so I do not have the vehicle here at the moment to be able to point out where it is located.
What if you have the same problem but opposite sides from this videos driver side hot and pass side cold?
Would indicated the same problems but would be the opposite side actuator
@@EddiesCustomsandRestorations i have a similar case on my friends 2011 Acadia.. Blows cold on the passenger and hot on the drivers side.. So im assuming it will be the actuator on the driver's side ?

Thank your for this video. I can tackle my project with confidence now and (based on the comments) knowing it will be a nasty trick job. I know you are not likely able to give troubleshooting advise but I will ask my question in case others may also know. While I was checking the actuator out and orienting my self with your directions I tried manually moving the actuator (and vent “lever”) to the opposite position from where it was - it was in the up position or “1:00” if you know what I mean. I was able to manually move it to the bottom position or 5:00 on the assumption that the opposite would be cool air. When I started the car it was still hot AND the actuator had moved back to the top position. Does that still feel like a faulty actuator ( maybe the electronics are off) but it does seem to be able to move the vent door when it “wants” to. Any thought would be appreciated before I donate who knows how much knuckle skin.

@@viruse8984 youre welcome. And most likely it will be on the opposite side perhaps by your right legs shin. Sort of like youre trying to see behind the radio area but closer to your leg. It may be there.

Anyone know where the actuator location for drivers side on 2017 gmc acadia? I just changed the one i thought was it. Apparently it was the floor to vent blend door actuator. It the only one i can see underneath on drivers side. Passenger side is cold

You really made it look easy. But it was not! I did get it done but had a lot of trouble. Dropped a tool once and almost didn't get it out. Gotter done with a whole lot of expletives!

I don't know what may be going on. There may be an issue with the server at the moment or something because nobody else has ever had this issue.
Yea I tried it on my wifes phone and it made it to almost 8 min mark before it stopped. Then I rewinding back and now hers stops right at 530 mark also. Thanks for responding. I hit like button anyways

Does anybody know the name of the part that the actuator sits on that turns the door open or close for heat/air. When I went to replace the actuator it wasn't there and I need to order the part but don't know what's it called. For reference stop at 9:33 into the video and you will see what I'm talking about. Its a blend door. The actuator is connected directly to the blend door

So when I looked up blend door all I got was blendor actuator. Are you sure that's the little white piece that turns the blend door in the car
@@PoktapokGod818 the thing is is that the white piece is supposed to be part of the blend door. I would be surprised if they sell it separately to be honest. And if it is the blend door that needs to be replaced, that turns into a larger job unfortunately...
