I appreciate you showing REAL progress with an actual puppy. I can't tell you how discouraging it is to watch trainers with impeccably trained dogs trying to convey their methods. This has helped my puppy TREMENDOUSLY!!
Update on Ace - I have gotten him involved in playing some of the games ua-cam.com/users/postUgkx1_veP7CApJK_GWy_TczaMciuG64PqJeU and I can see a difference in his confidence already! My other dog played along and he became intrigued - now its a daily part of our routine - about 3 times a day we do the shell game and the muffin tin game. I am so grateful for coming upon your training techniques!
Omg thank you for this video. Me and the wife were feeling like horrible puppy parents because we couldn't stop the bitting as quickly as other videos suggest this seems much more realistic and doesn't make us feel like failures
"If you're watching this video I'm guessing you've probably got a new puppy." Who else is out there watching these videos because Zak is an awesome trainer and they'll use his methods IN THE FUTURE if they actually get a dog? 😂 Update 2023: I have a dog now! Got Clara the Bernese Mountain Dog in July 2022, aged 11 weeks. And yep, I've used HEAPS of info from Zak's videos (and other UA-cam trainers) to train her, from the day I got her. I'm far from amazing but she's very good, and has learnt excellent lead-walking manners, an 'emergency' stop, and some hand signs and whistles. She's the love of my life. We have a few videos on my channel!
I like Zak's compassionate approach that includes understanding puppies' natural urge to bite, communicating to the dog what you want and maintaining that bond with your dog. In all the videos I watched before this one, the trainers relied on intimidation, negative conditioning and punishment (leash yanks, poking them in the side, etc.). In those cases the scared and submissive dogs were cowering. They obeyed because they didn't want to be punished again. Not a healthy relationship. Zak's approach may make take more time and dedication, but it's the approach that all dogs - who just want to give unconditional love - deserve.
I followed your tips when we got our German Shepherd girl (especially the redirecting and biting a toy instead of hands etc.), and as a result she still looks for a toy to bite and tug on when I get on the ground. She’s three years old ☺️
Thank you for a more realistic training video! It's frustrating to watch other trainers act like the pups should get behaviors under control much quicker. You've given me calmer hope.
I used to have boring, intact jeans and kids didn't think i was cool. I got a puppy and now all my pants have that cool, worn in look with neat holes in them
thank you for being authentic, a lot of training videos make you feel that it's so easy and make you feel like a looser but when you showed your hands and arms all scratched I felt like "ok, looks right to me I wanna listen to this guy"
I have a 4 months old puppy and she has stopped most of the biting and it makes me so happy! She is so smart and knows sit, down, paw, other paw, heel, almost sit pretty, right side, left side and stay! Your videos have helped so much!
Pet owners have an idea in their heads as to how they would like their pet to behave. The truth is that no one sets out to have a dog with behavioral problems. Yet sometimes, we must cope with the fact that our dogs exhibit troublesome qualities. These include behaviors such as incessant barking, chewing on your possessions and furniture, separation anxiety, and much more.Of course, we want to address the root of the problem rather than simply addressing the manifestation. This is where it’s important to seek professional help from a certified dog training program. visit here t.co/nnY411Q7yg
hey ,if anyone else needs to find out about puppy training classes try Pycanta Puppy Trainer Protocol ( search on google ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my partner got cool success with it.
I'm having a terrible time with biting and this new pup. Never had this so bad in my life and I've been watching lots of videos on what to do. I'm 82 and my arms cause a much bigger mess than your young ones so I'm working hard to get past this biting stage. Enjoyed the honestly of this training and not letting us think one time deal will fix it all.
I love that you're showing how long bite inhibition can take. Our GSD was super mouthy for the first few months and then at 10 months it came back for a while it was such a nightmare! Thank you for showing people a much more realistic puppy biting video
I have a German Shepherd puppy that is almost 8 weeks old and her rambunctiousness and biting can be a pain to deal with 🤦🏼♀️. I’m not looking forward to the adolescent phase. She’s already a big puppy, and she’s going to get even bigger.
my puppy used to never bite me and just sleep most of the day just like inertia, but now she’s starting to bite when i’m playing with her and of course here is zak to help me! thank you zak!😁
You have saved our skins! No literally! We have a 12wk old GSD and were at our wits end with the biting. We have yelped, presented and redirected to the point of frustration for the last 4 weeks and still she was biting our flesh, ankles, hands and even started snapping. After watching your video last night I worked more on acknowledging good behaviour (rewarding pats etc without biting) with tiny pieces of chicken and it's working! Wouldn't say we're completely over it but tonight I can at least pat my puppy without fear of losing a finger!
I've had my puppy for 8 days now, her biting is so improved just in that short pace of time. She no longer chews on my plants, she has trouble with slippers but we'll get there 😊 Thank you Zak!
I have a hypothesis why biting your shoes and ankles was her priority. She's a sheep dog and biting the sheep's ankles was how to get them to behave. It was instinct. This was very good.
I really think this is true. My dog is part border collie. Won’t bite my ankles anymore but if the kids start running he can’t resist biting their ankles and shoes!
My standard poodle puppy likes to go for the thigh and calves on my 5 year old when he runs about. I'm not aware of them having a herding instinct but she certainly has a prey drive.
@@angrytrees7519 I did not know poodles were so bitey before I got my puppy so I feel your pain. I had to buy slip on shoes to just focus on the flesh bites first. It's getting better but his stimulation and frustration threshold is pretty low. On the plus side he loves people and other dogs so far.
Anyone get that terrified feeling of when your dog nibbles on your fingers then you see them lift they’re head about to do that head shake when they got a chew toy in they’re mouth, bouta lose a finger lmao
I have a 10 week old male Golden retriever puppy, and he is very bold and very nippy at times 😅 When I try to pull him off something that he's not supposed to be chewing on, he responds by biting at my hands and lunging back toward the "illegal" object. When he gets very excited in play he will bite a lot too. It's so encouraging to read comments of others who are struggling through puppy biting. I'm not alone!
My secret to solving puppy biting is to say ouch in a loud and sharp tone just once. Then s/he will automatically buckle his head back. Once s/he does this, praise him for a few seconds and then they will return to their biting. Repeat this same process until they automatically stop. It depends on your dog how many times it takes for them to understand this method and stop all biting. I used this on my 10 week old maltipoo puppy and he didnt bite me the rest of the day! He hasn't even tried to nip me, my clothes, or my hair for the past few weeks!! 10/10 recommend
@Jessica Maine i feel ya Jessica I'm having the same problem with my 16 week old yellow lab mix puppy, redirecting doesn't work she will ignore the toy completely and aim right for my skin and when i walk away she attacks my ankles and legs. When i tell her Ow! or No! she bites ever harder and will latch on and start to growl. I've got so many bruises and cuts. what I've been doing is walking away from her or putting her in time out if she is over stimulated/tired. she gets very rambunctious and not even treats will calm her down. Also socializing your dog is key. Dogs learn bit inhibition from other dogs. its hard now to do this but maybe a family member has a dog that can come a play for an hour, or sign up for a puppy day camp. I don't know how long this will take as i am only on week 3 and i haven't seen progress :( I'm not gonna give up though. I know she will be a great do,g she is just a nut case sometimes.
@Jessica Maine Same experience. I have a 9 week old Borador puppy (Border Collie/Lab mix) that is hell bent on hunting down my feet and hands. He suddently gets a fit of craziness where he is tugging, growling and biting on my clothes and flesh. Yelping, saying "Ouch" or "No" only make it worse. He is in a state where he does not respond to a treat or a toy. I have to wear socks and full sleeved sweater to make sure it does not hurt. I am getting a professional trainer and joining puppy socialization class to help with his behaviour. Hopefully that would resolve some of this crazy behaviour.
Same here. Our mix (border collie/tibetan terrier) catched our energy when saying "no/auch" loudly, and wanted to bite even more while barking. I started saying no very calmly and it helps him, at least to bite less hard. Training as redirecting him works best, but just for a few minutes. Its all about our own energy, and not letting them get too excited 😅
Jessica Maine I just got a 7 week old puppy a few days ago. I got her from a humane society, and she was separated from her mom and siblings early so her biting is even harder to control. Using the technique of saying ouch makes her bark and bite me more as well. If I turn my back she bites my feet. I redirect her with toys which works sometimes, but she may care about the toy at times and comes back to my feet. I simply pick her up and hold her in one arm until she has a moment of calmness. Your dog may growl at you the first couple times you do it but keep holding them until they are calm for a moment. Eventually they’ll know if they’re calm they be able to get down and resume playing. Then I say yes good girl and put her down and give her a toy. It has been reducing her biting, it’s not gone but it helps. Hope this helps.
This is the first video I’ve seen that shows so much on how to stop puppy biting, this is such a great video, thank you! I have a puppy biter and I’m going to try what you’ve suggested.
I'm helping my neighbors train a mastiff puppy. Whenever she bites, I instantly stand up and turn around (after saying "no biting" and pulling her off). Of course I always try to redirect with toys if she looks like she might bite, but if she actually did clamp her daily strengthening jaws on me, I needed it to be very clear that's not acceptable at all. The first time I did this, she was a little confused and tried to get herself back in my line of vision- but she was still in bit mode. Only after she sat or lay down did I immediately turn back and praise her and we continued playing. She didn't bite for a while after that and now after a couple weeks of doing this every day when I come over once or twice, she rarely bites me at all. She had less of a problem with play biting than she did actually wanting to bit you because, (for example) the other dog is being pet, or I "want that treat now". My neighbors don't do what I do though and unfortunately, they still get bit (several times to the point of drawing blood) She is really a brilliant dog and catches on to ideas quick. She learned very quickly that biting the people she played with was not good, but she still bit them or my neighbors' other small dog purposefully when she wanted attention (the neighbors would often yell "ouch" or even hold her firmly whenever she bit. Soon though she'll get to big to hold firmly anymore...). But I didn't do that and it's amazing how fast she understood. Me and this big puppy have a very sweet relationship now and while I definitely wouldn't recommend this method for all dogs, this Mastiff puppy is both amazingly smart and very sensitive to my intentions. She wants so desperately to be on my good side and she's got it pretty well down that biting the me gets her the exact opposite of what she wants. I can't see Zak using this method, especially sense he wants Inertia to do alot of things with her mouth, but we needed it to be very clear that biting people was an absolute no because this dog is going to be huge and her jaws, an intimating sight to behold. It's definitely helped and on top of other training, plenty of play time and cuddles, it's worked well for her and she's greatly improved.
I am currently training my 2nd mastiff breed. 1st was cane Corso (she was so smart) and now training a 12 week old Dogue de Bordeaux. Standing up crossing my arms and looking away works quick, especially for my smaller kids. Even just looking away and taking the hand etc away works pretty well.
we've recently got an 8 week old sprocker pup - some of these early days have been so tough and we've had no idea how we are going to get through it. Your videos have been unbelievable helpful, I just wanted to say thank you so much. Just seeing another puppy on screen going mad and biting laces, legs, anything that moves.... helps us breath a sigh of relief as we are not the only ones, and we have a normal energetic pup :)
I love your videos! My husband and I have been so frustrated with our puppy’s biting and how painful it’s been with her biting our arms/legs and tearing our clothes. I’ll admit we have reacted sometimes in not the best way. But, your video gives me hope and reassurance that it’s normal behavior for them and that there is a fix!
Us too, my boyfriend and I have been feeling so confused on what we are doing wrong. And sometimes it hurts so much and he keeps going. Today he did it really hard and kept biting harder and I got mad and held his mouth shut and said no and I feel like that was a mistake. This video helps a lot to know it get better if we stick with having more patience
I really appreciate how realistic this video is!! Apart from the biting tips, it's helpful to know that it's normal for a puppy to not want to play sometimes, or to train, and also that leaving them be to do their own thing when they don't show interest is ok. Thanks so much for helping my new puppy anxiety :)
I really appreciate the realistic aspect of this video. So many of the others that I’ve watched show the dog quickly responding favorably. I was getting very discouraged because my 12 week old Boston shows little progress. I realize the issue is primarily me. I’m a senior and my response time and dexterity is not what it used to be, making the timing of rewards challenging. The biggest difficulty I have is my dogs lunging and latching onto my clothes (and sometimes my flesh in the process). 😟
That was honestly the best part. My pup is 15 weeks and still nips a lot, but after reflecting while watching this video I realized it has gotten better in small ways. It’s relieving to see a professional trainer say it takes a lot of time (even though my pup is older than his at the end of the video 😓).
At first I thought there was something wrong with my dog. It's a relief to know it's at least normal. And that there are solutions rather a muzzles or shots.
Hi, I’ve just got an eight week old multipoo puppy. I understand how hard training and biting is. I realise my puppy has now started to get bored inside , as she hasn’t had her second vaccinations yet. Therefore she is biting a lot, your vids really help, so thanks x
Thank you for this! This was so thorough and gives me so much hope I was getting a little frustrated with the nipping but to see you actually train instead of using a trained dog is much appreciated
I did. It helped so much. I've also, when she walks without biting I'll drop a treat and say good girl. I've accidentally found this channel and it has helped SO much.
How did you control it? I have a 10 week old piebald and I’ve been putting him in time out for 2-3 minutes. He actually drew blood from my hand. It seems the timeout has been helping. I also got him tons of teething toys and have been trying redirection too
@@josephstewart2580 man, I really wish I could tell you. I haven't solved to yet. I think I need to find that thing that works, and be consistent with it. It's so hard to train this positively, because she doesn't stop long enough to treat the good behavior.
@@josephstewart2580 you are not alone, anyone here, my arms and hands are destroyed by a 12 weeks old puppy 😢 these advices by Zek are gold, redirection have worked for me
@@josephstewart2580 with our puppy we yell ouch super loud and ignore her for 30 seconds or so and it has definitely worked, she doesn't bite anymore. Although she hasn't been at the prime teething stage yet!
Winner of a video, been searching for "teaching your dog tricks books" for a while now, and I think this has helped. You ever tried - Diyadison Genia Equalizer - (search on google ) ? Ive heard some extraordinary things about it and my m8 got cool results with it.
@@keeku860 ur dumb af Zak is a youtuber not a dog trainer he just bribes dogs with treats no diciplin and dog doesn't respect him at all and does what it wants and pulls on leader he also uses harnesses which are for pulling not to help the dog understand to walk nicely on leash
Zak, you don't know how thankful I am for this video! It's ironic, because I recently adopted a puppy almost two weeks ago, and he is exactly like Inertia! I was really frustrated with him constantly biting his leash, shoes, my hands, and pant legs. Luckily, he's getting a lot better, but this video is so helpful as well! Thank you Thank you Thank you!!!!! btw, Inertia grew up so fast :)
@ninerempire4life28 LOL it's not fraudulent because someone's puppy doesn't listen on command every time … To expect this from a dog you have just started training is exactly the thing id expect from someone like you though.
I recommend an electric collar. Start with them on a leash and say, "come here" and if they don't immediately turn around, hit either the low static or a low vibrate and say again. Stop when they turn around. This will tell them that the stimulus will end when they listen to you. You can then use the collar to get their attention whenever you want, up to 1000ft away! Just be slow and make sure they understand the first step. DON'T use it as a punishment, but as a way of halting unwanted behaviour, and gaining their attention. Don't over do the shock though, enough to get their attention, but no where near high enough to hurt. Sometimes positive reinforcement doesn't work, so you have to find a way that doesn't include treats to train. I hope this helps. My great Dane was a runner if she wasn't on the leash and a puller if she was, but luckily I found a trainer that showed me the strategy above. Best of luck!
We’re at 10 weeks and finally starting to see some improvements. This video was great, thanks Zak. Gives me hope that we’re on the right path and it will work if we stick at it 👍
I really appreciate you not blaming the owners only like other trainers would. Some puppies are less mouthy and some are more. My first dog didn't bite at all and my new dog now is a little bitting devil. I'm not mad at him since it's just how he gets to know the world. He's getting teeth as well and it's probably frustrating to him.
We have a 10 week old Mini Australian Sheppard and we are knee deep in puppy biting. It's frustrating, but these videos are super helpful in coaching us in the realities of this phase. We got both of your books and watch your videos almost every day. Thanks for the help!!!
I truly appreciate your honesty. Puppies are puppies biting and other behavior can't be fixed over night. As with everything it's a learning process for humans and the pup. Awesome tips thank you.
OMG, I can't thank you enough for this video. I recently got a puppy and he has been tearing our fingers off. Thank you so much again for this video. It is really helpful.
I just adopted my miniature poodle, and my breeder recommended Zak George. I needed to see this. ASTON, my poodle is my first puppy and I was feeling discouraged. This video lets me know that I am doing my best and eventually he will get it. I’m planning to speed my morning watching every video!,
This was helpful just for the sake of comparison. To see that YOUR puppy is breaking skin and the ages it occurs at. Finally felt like my puppy was normal. We started seeing some kissing VS bites yesterday with our 9 week old doberman. This video was good confirmation we are on the right track.
As a person who had a wonderful, happy, well behaved dog growing up, I'm now seeing as an adult who just brought home a puppy how much effort my parents put in unbeknownst to me to get him that way. Can't thank youtube and Zak George enough, as his channel and books have been extremely helpful in figuring the pup out. There were a few times I thought... if this dog doesn't listen, I am going to put a safety net under the balcony so I can toss her off. But, I come to a video like this and get idea's and mesh it with what I know already of pup and I go back into the next.... bite, or play, or whatever with a new idea, a new angle and almost a sense of calm.
I adore you Zak George...... I just simply so needed this message. I"m a very expierienced dog owner and amateur trainer and am struggling hard core with my current border collie/kelpie 4 month old foster puppy. You should see my hands. She has broke the skin so many times and yet there isn't an ounce of malicious intent. I had absolutely never dealt with such persistence in a puppy (and I've worked with A LOT). I felt like I was doing all the right things already, slight verbal correction and replace with a toy (and the tips on replacing with a training session were so helpful!). As was the advice that sometimes they just need a little cool down time on their own until their brains are in a calmer state. I knew it would take time but it was so refreshing to see a dog expert like you deal with those same issues for weeks and weeks and gave me such hope to just persevere with doing all the right things and that eventually it will subside. I now feel empowered and ready to take on the mighty Serena!
Perfect timing! We are deep in puppy biting phase (10 week old golden retriever) and your puppy biting videos have been the saving grace. In just a few days we have made such great progress. Thank you!!!!!!
Started watching your vids before we got our puppy. I completely underestimated how draining a puppy is! I needed this video to remind me that I'm not failing, it just takes a long time and that's ok! It's also ok not to address everything and "let a puppy be a puppy sometimes".
Thanks for taking the time to put together this compilation! It's very encouraging to look back and Inertia's progress as I'm in the thick of it with my baby shark. ;-)
Just rescued a 13 week old puppy from a nearly feral situation. The biting is off the charts and he seems to just go crazy in attacking myself or my 9 year old lab. Ordering your book today.
I've found that the "ouch!" approach works best for accidental nibbles. Like of you're playing and they clip you because they're too excited. My puppy usually immediately apologizes and calms down a little when play resumes.
Zak we have a 17 week old Berner. He is intense with the biting and we follow your ideas. He’s still bad with biting but got better. Still hasn’t lost puppy teeth!
@@runette331 we need to take into account that Zak is a professional trainer with much more experience than any of us here. I think his point is that it took me this much time to manage the biting, it might take you more time so please be patient with your dog. My dog got a bit better before losing his teeth, got terribly worse during teething phase, finally the behaviour is managable once he had all adult teeth at 6 months old
With our puppy we used the "squealing" technique and it worked wonders. We also tried redirecting a bunch especially when she bit furniture but that wasn't so easy as she ironically preferred to lick the chew toys instead of chewing them. The squeals had to be clear enough so she could understand it meant we got hurt. I didn't have much difficulties with that since I do have a high pitched voice and can react fast with an "ouch" but my bf had a harder time since you know, men don't usually squeal in a high pitch when getting a bit hurt. We figured out a workaround tho and when he got hurt he would say "meow" instead which in our language is basically "meow" but with a higher pitched vowel in the middle ('ä'). I started using "meow" a lot too especially later when we reacted even at the gentle bites she did. Most of the time she reacted correctly to our squeals (or meows) by stopping the bite. At first we squealed when it hurt us, later when it kindof hurt us and at the latest stage (including right now for example an accident during play) if we felt teeth on our skin (nothing painful, just something solid, smooth and wet came into contact). She also bit clothes A LOT. Not just at our ankles, mostly she jumped up and grabbed the highest thing she could. We both have at least one small hole on the lower end of our jackets. I also had to stitch up a lot of pants. We fixed that in the same way. Some puppy training videos talked how puppies can't really distinguish what is us and what is our clothes so we acted like we got hurt when she bit our clothes too. And yes, it worked also. To be fair, it wasn't a complete lie since we got hurt emotionally at least :). When she bit like 3 or more times in a row ignoring the squeal we just (stopped play and) removed ourselves from the situation to let her calm down. She came to our home when she was 2.5 months old and we got the biting in control in a few weeks. She changed the biting to licking really fast. She is now 1yo and licks us constantly and that's ok :)
We got a 15week old Akbash Collie almost 2 weeks ago & he bites more than any other puppy I've ever had. He gets out of control & attacks us,,I've got 3 stitches in my right calf the back of my ankles & legs are tore up & my arms look like hamburger,my husbands arms are as bad! Our 9yr old grandson hides in his bedroom when we have Loki loose in the house. I really hope we don't lose to much blood before he finally stops biting. BTW he is 15weeks,,17 weeks now & the size of a border collie,,he is a very big boy! He starts trail training Saturday,,it's actually search & rescue training. This video did give us hope that this biting is normal & that he will stop! 😊
This is so our almost nine week old Goldendoodle! It’s encouraging to watch this, Thank you! He is making some progress but definitely has a long way to go
@@buzrash Ours is now almost 15 weeks and still biting, but not as bad. The training for commands (sit, stay, shake, stay, etc) have been very easy to train him on. No bite is still something he is learning. He's biting less frequently and not as hard, but his adult teeth are coming in and he is teething terribly.
Thank you so much for this!! My little Aussie bites so much and so hard I’m glad to see that even the greatest of dog trainers go through this too. He just can’t seem to understand that biting and ripping skin is not ok
Omg, totally dealing with this right now. I've had him one week, and it seems as soon as he felt comfortable with me, the crazy, maniacal puppy biting started. He HAS learned SIT, but when he's over stimulated he just goes crazy on my clothes! Thanks for the good advice 👍 🙏 😀
Omg it’s like you’re describing my puppy, he also won’t stop biting and my shoe laces can never stay tied up 😂 I’m going to start training him today, thanks heaps!
my 4.5 month old GSD Ranger does not bite my shoes or the leash anymore - that took weeks of routine to phase out. He still sometimes nips my flesh but that is also on a downward trajectory. He is in the middle of losing his milk teeth right now, too. I got him at 2months and he's such a good boy! Your videos have been SO helpful, Zak. I've watched all of Inertia's vids.
I have a Border Collie pup that my dog actually gave birth too! So Ive known her from day 1! And since day 1 I have been watching your videos because you are amazing and so is Inertia! I really want to train Bandit to do the Stall Trick
I followed all of your tips from the start of raising my pup! He's *very* high energy, so biting skin took about 4-5 weeks to get under control, but he's fabulous now and licks instead! -Biting clothes was never a huge issue, but took about 2 weeks. (Guess every pup is different!) -Biting the leash was never a huge issue either, but I often carried a toy to direct him away from it and that worked like a charm. -Biting the rug and sofa was more of an issue, that took about 5 weeks to start to diminish. He's now 6 months old and sleeping at my feet under my desk! We've got a lot ahead of us, but to anyone with a young puppy, keep going you're getting there. :) Our main issue at the moment is him trying to eat tissues that he finds while off-lead on walks, so we're training leave it with tissues every day! (In the UK most people let their young pup off-lead if in the countryside. He's been fabulous on recall even from playing with other dogs for the most part!)
@@erinnorwood6124 To never let him touch human skin at all in the first weeks would have been very challenging! I would direct him to a toy or ask him to sit and then treat or end the play/have a time out if he persisted with going for my skin. When he started to get the idea, I would use my reward word 'Yes!' whenever he licked me instead of biting. Now he licks or nudges me with a toy when he wants to play. It takes patience and time though!! (Every pup is different of course, but he didn't seem to get the mouthing gently bit until I reinforced licking instead of biting.) But now when his play biting does occasionally come out, he mouths very gently. Of course, I hope to work through the behaviour completely soon!)
We just got a corgi and he’s exactly like Inertia!! The biting at the heels, ankles, and feet/shoes is so frustrating but I just started using your tips so hoping to see progress.
Love this! Lil (staffy x whippet) was weaned way too early, then hit and thrown at the wall for biting before I got her so she was hyper aroused, confused and anxious. It felt like it took so long to gain her trust and get any interaction from her that wasn’t just frenzied biting but this vid has reassured me that I did the right things with her. It took a little longer because of her circumstances but she’s grown into the sweetest, brightest girl. Thank you!
3 weeks today since my dog's at home and she's getting better day by day. I've been doing what I've seen in your videos and I definitely see progress! Most of the bites are not so bad anymore and she licks a lot more!
Your videos are a game changer man. I’ve seen major progress from our 6 mo Aussie after dedicating my time to training him with the methods you’ve shown.. If there is anyone saying “OH EASY FOR YOU TO DO WITH YOUR WELL TRAINED DOG” you aren’t putting enough time in. Puppies are a commitment and if you didn’t know that going in you better learn quick!
Hi! I'm from Brazil, and I just wanted to say: Congratulations! Your job is amazing. That's the best dog training chanel I've ever seen. Your videos are helping me a lot. Not only with my dog, but practicing my english too. Keep up with the good work.
This video makes me feel better, since as you all know training a puppy can be frustrating and i was feeling a bit down today. Our mittelspitz puppy is just under 10 weeks old and about 90% of her ankle biting when inside is gone as well as i'd say 60-70% of biting is gone when we are outside walking etc. She doesn't bite hands painfully anymore and has started to lick them more instead. Next step i guess is to stop her from biting the leash which isnt too bad either. Definitely gonna bring some toys when going outside because i dont think yelling "NO" to her is the best way, but im still learning as its first time im training a puppy
My Bordernese pup is 10 weeks and we've pretty much eliminated biting as he wasnt really into anything but fingers and toes. Sometimes pantlegs but not often. The redirection and rewards even after small small victories is SO key. Thanks!
I just got a cocker spaniel I love her soooo much but biting is a problem hahahaha 😂 you videos are beyond helpful thank you! Got another cocker….and so it begins once again 😂

Thank you for showing the reality of how long these changes take. Helps new owners have patience.
Omg thank you for this video. Me and the wife were feeling like horrible puppy parents because we couldn't stop the bitting as quickly as other videos suggest this seems much more realistic and doesn't make us feel like failures
"If you're watching this video I'm guessing you've probably got a new puppy."
Who else is out there watching these videos because Zak is an awesome trainer and they'll use his methods IN THE FUTURE if they actually get a dog? 😂
Update 2023: I have a dog now!

I will probably never get a dog😭
i’m getting a dog in a few weeks so i’m just binging his videos to train my dog.
Ikrrrrrr I reallyyyy want a dog I’m getting one in a few months
I was thinking the same thing. I want to see them go through the struggle too.
Yesss, this! I watched another video and wondered why my puppy wasn’t stopping biting right away ~_~
This is the most indirect Shoe flex video I’ve ever seen. Great taste in shoes.
😂
Pet owners have an idea in their heads as to how they would like their pet to behave. The truth is that no one sets out to have a dog with behavioral problems. Yet sometimes, we must cope with the fact that our dogs exhibit troublesome qualities. These include behaviors such as incessant barking, chewing on your possessions and furniture, separation anxiety, and much more.Of course, we want to address the root of the problem rather than simply addressing the manifestation. This was hilarious thank you 🤣
I'm having a terrible time with biting and this new pup.
No!!!!!! I have a lab shepherd. Once we get past this I don't want it to come back!
Even if you don’t have a dog yet your just thinking about getting one your just here to learn and talk about how cute inertia is.
@J L Ah HA! (says the 'mom" of corgi-aussi mix pack)
My standard poodle puppy likes to go for the thigh and calves on my 5 year old when he runs about. I'm not aware of them having a herding instinct but she certainly has a prey drive.
I am here to go against that, it's just wat they can easily reach since they are like small. Lol

@Jessica Maine mine too!
Even just looking away and taking the hand etc away works pretty well.
just "redirect" and "it will take time" thats all the 16 minutes for you. You're welcome
I ❤ getting to the point 🙏
we've recently got an 8 week old sprocker pup - some of these early days have been so tough and we've had no idea how we are going to get through it.

How many? I watched it all and didn’t hear that what the heck lol
Thanks for the honest video. Its good to see that it takes time, even for a great dog trainer, it gives me hope !

SAME
@ninerempire4life28 LOL it's not fraudulent because someone's puppy doesn't listen on command every time … To expect this from a dog you have just started training is exactly the thing id expect from someone like you though.
@@wolverinebite1126 I thought electric collars were considered cruel and inhumane but a dog trainer recommend it to you

I knew it would take time but it was so refreshing to see a dog expert like you deal with those same issues for weeks and weeks and gave me such hope to just persevere with doing all the right things and that eventually it will subside. I've found that the "ouch!" approach works best for accidental nibbles. Like of you're playing and they clip you because they're too excited. My puppy usually immediately apologizes and calms down a little when play resumes.

No bite is still something he is learning. He's biting less frequently and not as hard, but his adult teeth are coming in and he is teething terribly.
Thank you so much for this!! My little Aussie bites so much and so hard I’m glad to see that even the greatest of dog trainers go through this too. He just can’t seem to understand that biting and ripping skin is not ok
im having the same problem with my aussie, it’s so hard
@@veronicamendiola5434 just got my Aussie puppy and we are having the same problem. He loves to bite hard and doesn’t care when he hurts me 🤣
Thanks for showing us the struggle. Now I won’t panic. It takes time but practice over weeks. Thank you for letting me know.
I have Zak George's dog training revolution book and I love it!
I followed all of your tips from the start of raising my pup! He's *very* high energy, so biting skin took about 4-5 weeks to get under control, but he's fabulous now and licks instead!
-Biting clothes was never a huge issue, but took about 2 weeks. (Guess every pup is different!)
-Biting the leash was never a huge issue either, but I often carried a toy to direct him away from it and that worked like a charm.
-Biting the rug and sofa was more of an issue, that took about 5 weeks to start to diminish.
He's now 6 months old and sleeping at my feet under my desk! We've got a lot ahead of us, but to anyone with a young puppy, keep going you're getting there. :)
Our main issue at the moment is him trying to eat tissues that he finds while off-lead on walks, so we're training leave it with tissues every day! (In the UK most people let their young pup off-lead if in the countryside. He's been fabulous on recall even from playing with other dogs for the most part!)
Did you let your dog mouth you gently or never let him touch human skin at all?
I just got a puppy who is 10 weeks old. He’s very sweet but will nite everything and everyone. I found this super helpful!
We just got a corgi and he’s exactly like Inertia!! The biting at the heels, ankles, and feet/shoes is so frustrating but I just started using your tips so hoping to see progress.
Did it work?
I love this video and the information but I just cant handle little baby Inertia 😭❤ she grew up so fast!
If you see this I hope have a good day zak
Thank you!
Video: “If it existed, then she was gonna bite it”.
Me: PRAISE GOD IM NOT ALONE!
Freaking same
Me too
my 11 week old golden retriever puppy already knows sit, stay, lay down, and come! your videos are so helpful!
I have a 17-week old golden retriever!
This would really solve my puppy's biting problem... Thank you so much! Love from India 💕
3 weeks today since my dog's at home and she's getting better day by day. I've been doing what I've seen in your videos and I definitely see progress! Most of the bites are not so bad anymore and she licks a lot more!
I NEEDED this video, i just got a border collie and he’s awful with puppy biting, thanks for this vid 👍
Thanks, that means a lot. 😁
And some day for sure I will visit the grand canyon state. Must be quite a sight
This is my favorite video already just by reading the title
My Bordernese pup is 10 weeks and we've pretty much eliminated biting as he wasnt really into anything but fingers and toes. Sometimes pantlegs but not often. The redirection and rewards even after small small victories is SO key. Thanks!
I just got a cocker spaniel I love her soooo much but biting is a problem hahahaha 😂 you videos are beyond helpful thank you!
Got another cocker….and so it begins once again 😂
Same. I got a dachshund puppy. His bites feel like swords😫😂😂😂
I got a dorkie the bites hurt
Omg same my boy is a cocker and he WILL NOT stop biting 😭😭😭
I got a shih tzu puppy same problem
The slender ninja I used to have a shih Tzu ❤️
I wish this man could come live with my dog and help me, it’s day 4 and I’m terrified of doing things wrong and going out of my mind
