Their musicianship is top notch. But watching the fan cams & their informal videos & interviews, you get the sense that they are also good hearted, caring, fun and hardworking friends. They all came from humble beginnings and have no egos among them.
MISA uses both a pick and slaps, depending on what she feels the song calls for. She even switches up in the middle of songs. She has a technique where she can flip the pick onto her palm and back in the space of a single note. If you guys check out one of their other instrumentals, Onset there is a good shot of her doing this during her solo but don't blink or you'll miss it. And yes, she is always barefoot when on stage playing.
She also plucks in a couple of songs and in the acoustic set. She does all three techniques wel. But she often uses a pick because of the sound/attack. She wants her sound to be aggressive enough.
@@ApexRadius Like in official live video of "Don't You Dare", where Misa and Kanami battle it out and Misa imitates Kanami's parts on her bass. It's just amazing. It's the best back and forth I've seen since Lynyrd Skynyrd in "That Smell".
MISA played with finger style in their earlier songs. She has evolved to mostly picks by choice probably because she doesn’t just play the rhythm parts to support the songs. She is often in co lead role on many songs playing the counter melody throughout the song.s. I don’t play the instrument but MISA’s bass tone is very prominent even to my layman’s ears. She is mesermerising!
Saiki, the lead singer, had surgery for throat polyps a few years ago, and since then, the band has been very protective of her voice. Since Band-Maid servings (as they call concerts) go for 2-3 hours, they've built a break for her into them. She'll leave the stage, and they'll do some instrumentals, Miku will sing lead on a few songs, and Miku will also do her Magic Spell Time bit (some improv comedy in the middle of a rock concert- it has to be seen to be believed). Then Saiki will come back on and they'll finish the serving.
@@AudioLunchin maid cafe’s the server casts a magic spell on your food to make it extra delicious. She has translated that bit to the shows and it’s become sort of a comedy routine that hypes up the audience with a bunch of call and response stuff, often with the rest of the band hassling her or otherwise goofing off.
In my personal opinion, Saiki balances out live setlist carefully not just to rest her voice but to give other members the time to shine. Instrumentals work great to bring in new fans because they show them that they are not just a gimmick band but a group of serious musicians. Band-Maid's recent songs are even more vocally demanding than the way it used to be. She tries her best to give fans what they want.
The Barefoot Assassin name is kind of a combination of two things that has since lived on forever. She was never a huge fan of the maid aesthetic so she diverged pretty quickly into black dresses that were only vaguely maid like. During an interview the interviewer called her out on not wearing a maid outfit and Miku (rhythm guitar) said she was "an assassin maid"... She also just likes to perform barefoot and does in nearly every show (except outdoor events where it's too hot) And that's how we have ended up here. Barefoot Assassin.
yes, the reason for the barefoot on stage is because she can get a better feel for the drums via the vibrations in the floor. which i have heard a few ppl say it does help for some ppl.
@@3364deanTechnically speaking, MISA doesn’t perform in bare feet as she always has fishnet stockings on. No sole is likely a closer description which is also probably more fitting with BM concept of ‘Gap’ since MISA is all Soul with her music.
The interview mentioned was on the show Music Gold Rush. If you search for "music gold rush band-maid" on UA-cam, you can find the interview (in two parts) with English subtitles.
Lead guitar Kanami plays PRS through Mesa Boogie. Rhythm guitar Miku plays Zemaitis through 5150. Bass Misa plays Black Cloud Custom or Fender Jazz through Orange. Drummer Akane plays Tama kits.
Kanami switched from Mesa to Bogner heads during last year. Misa switched from Orange to Aguilar gear a little earlier. Not sure about Miku's current rig. Kanami and Miku were both running Orange Pedal Baby units instead of their usual heads on the '23 US tour. I think Miku also uses a Line 6 Helix or something similar. Kanami's pedal board looks like it should be branded Battlestar Galactica. Kanami was using the Bogner in Japan. I don't recall if Miku was using the EVH. Have to check the Yoko video.
Yeah I think because they're bringing in more money from touring and anime commissions, are happy with their guitar sponsorship they're going for sound over sponsorship when it comes to the backline. Mincho actually introduced the Bogner as if it was a new band member and posted when it arrived like the big kid she is Both The Warning and Bandmaid switched to those little oranges at the same time not long after meeting each other. We know they've been discussing all manner of girl rock stuff online for a long time before they met and more after I expect. Their guitar techs are both very respected within the profession @@ApexRadius
I would suggest checking out their very first MV. Thrill! It was the MV that saved them from their management cutting them loose! They opted to do this MV, and it propelled them into stardom! And OMG, they are so young in that video 🥰
If you watch the domination live video guys did when they zoom in on her during her little solo section you can see her switching back and forth from the pick and fingers and slapping. She palms the pick while shes playing.
THE best Hard Rock band in the universe. And in any parallel universes too. All the best Metal and Rock for the 21st century is being made by all-female or female-led, Japanese bands that have musicians of the highest calibre. Band-Maid, Lovebites, Babymetal, Nemophila, Asterism, Hanabie...the list keeps growing. Been enjoying live Rock and Metal gigs since the mid 70's but haven't looked west since 2016.
Many of us saw Band-Maid play “From Now On” live. OMNG! Kanami riffed her ass off. The DB’s matched the BPM’s! So FROM NOW ON, Band-Maid will grow in popularity even faster as their awesome, sold out 10TH ANNIVERSARY TOUR wrapped up at Japan’s 17,000 seat Yokohama Arena on Nov. 26 and at Hong Kong. AND they’re writing and recording for their new album! Thx, A-Lunch!
I had already liked Band-Maid for a couple of years, but when they dropped a promo for their 2022 tour featuring a teaser for this track, I dropped everything and IMMEDIATELY purchased a ticket.
Misa switches from a pick to slap and back in a lot of their songs. Watch the online version of NO GOD live from a few years ago and wear a seat belt. It will literally blow you out of your seats. She doesn't wear shoes when performing and she likes to have a nip or two on stage during performances. Listen to how she weaves in and out of the music to tie it all together.
I know, and her acoustic work is totaly in the finger style too quite often. She can do it all and it's amazing to watch sometimes. The best part is that she's very tasteful, in my opinion.@@DavidMISAMISAMISACook
'I love the bass player!' - get in line there buddy 😉 MISA is not only extremely talented, but absolutely stunning! 🥰 Seen them twice in the past few years. They played for round 2 hours each time. Best 2 concerts I've ever been to! At the Philly show they played Onset & this (both instrumentals) back to back. That got the biggest cheers of the nite BTW - MISA can slap, pick, sometimes both in same song. Even seen her tap once (Clang live version)! I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, No God (live) & Puzzle (live)
Corallium, Live at Eggman, enough said, lol. Love the reaction guys, nice to see, subbed just to watch the journey, lol, keep'em comin' pls. Just be warned they have an addictive quality to them.
Thank you very much for checking out Band Maid. Band Maid and The Warning from Mexico are not only my favorite all female bands, but my favorite bands period. Misa plays with a pick and her fingers, the thing that truly amazes me as a bassist of nearly 50 years is how she can change technique by palming the pick and switching back and forth mid-riff.
MISA the bassist, will use a pick (Her own custom design/size/thickness/artwork), her fingers, and will slap. From another bass player he looked at her playing and said she uses, "Slap and Pop, "Snap and Claw", "Fingerstyle" and with a pick. I have seen her do hammer-ons and pull-offs like she was playing a standard guitar, and also do tapping, bends, and a few things I can't identify. Look for the fancam of the Ladies performing "Clang" in I think Germany with the intro. And you will see MISA and Kanami have a brief intro duel before kicking the song off.
“DICE” official music video. It’s an appropriate next step. “Domination” is an example of their arena pop rock. “From Now On” is one of 4 instrumental tracks, this one being their most “metal.” “DICE” is their offering of 80’s rock blended with post hardcore punk and alternative rock. But most of all? It’s a one song introduction to their unique “formula” of genre blending and masterful songwriting. 1) The riff 2) The balance among players 3) The major mode uplifting chorus 4) Bass to Guitar features 4) The Bridge drop 5) The drive home After that? “Blooming,” OMV, where they bring post hardcore punk to the front and deliver one of the most magnificent bridges and “drives home” you’ll ever hear in modern music 🤘🏽 My first concert? KISS 1978 My most recent? Band Maid 2023 My life is complete
Thanks again from Japan 有難う💛。 I witnessed this song performed live four times with this MV quality in Japan and dropped my jaw four times 😲. I believe so did many of American audience in their recent three US tours. This song has been normally played in the middle of the setlist to give Saiki, lead vocalist, some break. They played this song, however, as opening at festivals and in Guns N' Roses concert in Japan as support to the legendary band. Yeah! they showed off their skills and talents to the audience who knew nothing about the girls in maid outfit on the stage. I felt as if I heard them screaming "Hey guys! Listen to us and open your eyes wide! We are not the persons that you think ! Salute us!" 😄
Yeah _Misa_ mostly uses a pick, She also plays with her fingers. But what I love about this bass player is how She curls the pick into her index finger when She slaps and pops. The switching is so fast, like sleight of hand.
Good reaction. My favorite instrumental. You should check out their previous instrumental, "Without Holding Back". As for Misa, she can play everything with fingers too. The way she switches from pick to bass slapping is impressive. There are no weak Band Maid songs, so you have plenty of material to work with.
Welcome to the Maidiacs. I love these ladies so much it's a bit insane. You really can't go wrong with any of their songs but I'm going to recommend"Play" live, "Without Holding Back", "Dice" mv, "Puzzle" official live video,"Shambles" mv, "Real Existence" olv to start.
Just simply the best rock band on the planet. They have rekindled my love of music that had been largely missing for a very long time. Lucky enough to have seen them twice in concert and will see them again when the opportunity arises.
Welcome to the rabbit hole that is Band Maid, best rock band on the planet. These adorable ladies are like a dream team with Hall of Famers at every position. I grew up with Van Halen, Rush, Led Zepplin and I thought the best of Rock was behind us. These wonderful maids have proven me wrong!! MISA, the Barefoot assassin, plays barefoot at live performances and from what I understand it’s because she can feel the vibration of the music thru the floor. Perfect assassin-maid outfit. Also known as the Black Maid as she is depicted in all black in their anime vid. Kanami, the Green Maid, and genius composer of most of their music is the lead guitarist. She is adorable and humble. Humble that is until she gets a guitar in her hands. You’ll notice that most of her solos are relatively short but fits the song instead of long drawn out shred sessions. She is definitely the Queen of the Rock and Roll Guitar. Akane, the Yellow maid, is a beast with drumsticks. The best at drum fills and ALWAYS smiling. Nicknamed the Gorilla because of her drum style and she likes to eat. In a lot of Band Maid videos you’ll notice her eating something. Saiki is the lead singer and nicknamed the Ice Princess, although her singing melts my heart every time. Best Rock voice since Grace Slick of Jefferson airplane DECADES ago. She is the Blue Maid. She can bring you to tears during acoustic songs like Puzzle. Miku is the backup singer and rhythm guitarist. She is SO adorable and is the heart of Band Maid. She formed the band not knowing how to play guitar, but with Kanami as her teacher, she has improved and so has Band Maid. She is the Red Maid. Love to join you on your trip the Band Maid rabbit hole. I got to see them last year and it was the best concert I’ve ever been to. LOVE THE MAIDS!!
Saiki the lead singer has had throat surgery in the past so the band are very careful with her voice. They play 2+ hour sets so to give Saiki a break around mid-set they do three things. 1. Play an instrumental, 2. Miku (rhythm guitar) takes lead vocals for a song or two (she usually has one track per album where she is lead vocalist) and 3. Miku will do her legendary and hilarious "Magic Time" MC set. Then Saiki comes back on to finish the set. Even though Saiki no longer needs a break nowadays, it's become more of a tradition. So yeah, they have a number of really cool instrumental tracks. Check out the live MV of "Onset" for another instrumental banger!
"in the past" is 7 years ago and her voice is stronger than ever. She was a singer with no professional experience back then, and didn't took good care of her throat. Now she's a complete pro and take great care of her health.
Kanami Tōno, lead guitarist and composer is Imo most impressive musician of the 21st Century. Pure genius as a composer and True Rock n’ Roll Star on stage. She is The Special One 🔥🤘❤️ They are Magical band, amazing musicians, humble humans.
Great react and good channel guys! They are absolutely amazing, simply perfects!! You need watch "Freedom" and "Play" live. Believe me, are absolutely amazing!! See you! 🤟🦊🇯🇵🔥🔥🔥🔥🔥
The super cool part about MISA's bass play is she can play with a pick, fingers and/or slapping, and all in the same song at times! Her ability to tuck her pick and switch to slap and plucking is so amazing! The Barefoot Assassin, yes, she was barefoot!
If you want to hear more of the Barefoot Assassin's (Misa's) bass, I'd suggest trying "Dice" or "No God" or "Influencer" since those feature Misa quite a bit. If you want to hear more from Kanami (lead guitarist) I'd suggest "Puzzle" or "Moratorium" as good examples. The song, "Freedom" features a drum solo and the official live video of "Domination" features all four musicians playing solos. "Onset" and "Without Holding Back" are other good examples of instrumentals from the band as well. I hope you two are having a great day, or night, or whatever it is for you.
The double MV "Manners - Black Hole" would be perfect at this stage of your discovery of Band-Maid. Prepared to be blown away (of course), but also to discover two different sides of the band. And later there will be tons more facets to this diamond you just found, believe me.

Thanks...This is really helpful and I will go down your list and check them out. I'm new to JRock and JMetal so I'm not familiar with most of the aforementioned bands and thanks again for including the songs we should check out!
Puzzle (live) , Moratorium (live) , Play (live) , Manner (live) , Turn me on (live) , Take me higher (live) , Onset (live) , Blooming (video) , Dice (video) , Different (video) , Without holding back (video) , Giovanni (video) , Secret my lips (video)
I like to recommend any official live videos. In the studio recordings, you can hear how well crafted songs are but they transfer that tightness plus massive energy in live stuff. It's at another level.
The pigeon hole is unbelievably fascinating. Someone thinks it's the joy of life, while another one says it's furious. They are so genius yet so human at the same time. I love them so much. ♥️🤘
Great reaction guys. Since Miku didn't start to learn and play guitar until after the band was formed, it seems the ladies took it upon themselves to have MISA as an additional lead guitarist on bass. Because of this, a pick gave her bass a harder attack to compliment Mincho's guitar, while Miku held the basic drive of the song with Akane helping the entire sound by filling in the spaces. It worked so well that it has become the "Band-Maid" formula for their songs. And now that Miku is becoming more proficient, Mincho can take bigger liberties on what she wants to add to each song behind the vocals. She gets more creative with each song. At least that's how I look at it.
The impressive thing about their songs is even without vocals you can still hear where it would go. They can go hard like Giovanni or light like Daydreaming, and you can still feel the same quality of their sound
I am 55, and have listened to many great bands over the years, but these young ladies have stole my musical heart. Even the early songs that they didn't write are great. Puzzle is one of my many favorites, you should check it out. I have been a fan of Japanese bands for the last year and a half and make up most of my playlists. WaggakiBand doing a song with Amy Lee started me on this journey. WaggakiBand and Unlucky Morpheus (I probably butchered the spelling) are definitely worth checking out too.
Thank you for always loving Band-Maid. Band-Maid is my "rock goddess." They have a lot of great songs. I would like the two of you to continue to pay attention to Band-Maid. They are extremely grateful to the video that featured them. In particular, Kanami watches everyone's reactions and writes down what she feels and what she learns in her notebook. (Google translation. Sorry.)
I've seen them play this song live, in-person, a dozen times and I always return to this MV because of its dramatic effects. They do several instrumentals, some are "White room" MVs from their extended tracks on their Bluray/DVD offerings. If you compare the full band version (vocals) and "White room" version, they become 2 completely different songs, and you see the intricacy of their music composition, Po! It's a great journey you guys are on, and thanks for sharing it with us, Po! 🦍🍌 Btw, there will most likely be a new MV coming out soon because their Yokohama Tour Final Bluray/DVD will arrive Mar 27, 2024. So, turn on your Band Maid YT notification for those premiere, which the band usually attends and comment. It's a huge event amongst the fanbase and Band members. I predict ❤day, Po!, because Band Maid loves their fan base, Po!
@@AudioLunch Also for becoming 2 completely different songs..Check out the Full fat songs..then their acoustic's of the same song....Best example "Puzzle"...Full band power..then just Kanami on acoustic with Saiki...Emotional overload!....The entire Kanami Saki acoustic set "Puzzle & Anemone" with music box opening is breath taking.
The lead singer Saiki requested to include a kick-ass instrumental as the first track of Unleash album, which is also made as a kind of show opener, so audience who has no idea of what Band-Maid is about will be blown away and has to take them as a serious rock band. It definitely worked at all the festivals they did in the US last year.
The "pigeon hole" is clever two ways. Kobato Miku 小鳩 ミク is a stage name where 小鳩 (Kobato) translates 小 "small" and 鳩 "pigeon". In Japan a pigeon says "kuruppo" or "po" for short. Miku punctuates her speech with "po!" And just for clarity, she doesn't "act" like a pigeon. She _is_ a small pigeon. Second, this band maybe more than any other will defy any attempt to put them into a box or pigeon hole. Going down the pigeon hole is an experience like a Tardis ... it's much larger than you can imagine. It's the Unseen World, po.
Gents a small correction, you don't "work" your way through the B-M catalogue you soak yourself in it, but remember to strap on a safety harness, enjoy the ride, it's even more delicious than cold beer on a hot summers day. Try a recent live clip of Dice and Hate at Lollapalooza, that should get your respective motors running, cheers 👍🍻
@rogerchance9074 Roooooggggggggeeeerr 😁 good to hear from you, you sound well and awesome work mate, I love how you support and spread the word about our five Rock Goddesses 👍🍻 I'll have a few beverages for you tonight here in Northern Australia 😄👍🍻
I'm pretty sure (not 100%) but pretty sure that Miku plays Zemaitis gutiars thru an EVH 5150 amp, Kanami plays PRS guitars thru a Triple Rectifier amp, and MISA (The Barefoot Assasin) plays Black Cloud (Japanese company) Black Smoker Beta J5s, a Black Cloud Private Reserve SG 5 string, and her new signature Black Cloud Mustang(?) thru Orange amps and cabs, although she has been playing through Aguilar amps and cabs recently. Akane plays Tama drums.
Good info. I recently found out that Kanami switched to Bogner heads. I have no idea why she’d ever move away from Mesa, but I defer to our Riff Goddess!
You need to check out their song Play live. It started as an instrumental but Saiki the lead singer asked them to write some lyrics so they did awesome song, awesome band. Misa if you watch switches between slapping, picking and fingers, she folds the pick up under a finger
Boys, you're in for a journey with these ladies, so buckle up. "Shambles" is their latest single (for an anime) Kinami totally grungie on that PRS . Akane straight up blistering that drum kit, Misa always slaying that bass....solos included. But if you really want to lose your minds..."Hate?" live at this year's lollapalooza, oh yeah. Misa and Kanami go into a bass/guitar battle and Misa is NOTHING like you've ever heard or seen before. Saw them in Nashville last summer and the best small venue show I've ever witnessed. They started my love affair with J rock/ J metal almost 4 years ago and I'm set for my first trip to Tokyo in about 4 weeks
The thing to understand about Band Maid is that they have tremendous talent mixed with a crazy work ethic. I have been listening to rock and metal for 40 years. I have never heard a tighter band live. I have had the pleasure of seeing them live 3 times, and they sound as good or even better than their studio cuts. It is almost like they are of one mind. Only Tool and King Crimson have come close to the live perfection of Band Maid. Plus, they have fun the entire time, and it is infectious!
I knew you would LOVE it guys. Worthy of a sub. MISA plays barefoot and kills it playing lead bass hence the barefoot assassin. This is currently my favorite BAND-MAID song with or without vocals. My favorite song before this was WARNING which was literally on fire 🔥. My favorite instrumental before this was ONSET-LIVE which is on par with FROM NOW ON if you can believe it and cemented me as a Maidiac. Then check out power ballad DAYDREAMING and you'll wonder how did I make it thru without BAND-MAID. Awesome is as Awesome does. Peace. 3.16
Not many people are "ready for" From Now On, since just about everyone, like you guys, has to pause, gather themselves and start over after being leveled by that thunderous intro. Kudos to you guys for recovering and delivering a great reaction. I think the next step should be Shambles, which is a lot like From Now On with a vocalist, or the double shot vid of their EPIC performance of Dice and Hate? From Lollapalooza 2023. That will give you a clear pcture of where they are now. Then you should go back and see where they came from by doing Domination (Live), Play (Live), Blooming (mv), Real Existence, Onset (Live/instrumental), (either one) and Puzzle (Live). That oughta give you a great start. Thanks again for the great reaction! 🤘🤩🤘
Misa, bass, has perfected a way of moving the pick to inside her index finger when going to slap then out again to pick. It’s seamless and easy to miss. Also, shut up when Kanami’s speaking! (Lead guitar)
We are all fortunate to be living in a time when Band-Maid exists. And with a 130+ song library and ten years together as a band they just keep getting better. Band-Maid's appeal comes from their Rock/Hard Rock influence we grew up with that seems to have disappeared over the years unless you're into old, dried up, stale "Classic Rock". Now that you're hooked past the barb, go back to their earlier songs to hear their progression to present day. MISA is called the barefoot assassin because she plays barefoot to feel the music through her feet. If you like good ole rock, check out "Manners" official music video, there's a live version but check this one first. The cinematography is stunning........and bass picks RULE!!! Band-Maid Is: Akane Hirose (Ah-kah-nee or Ah-kah-nay) -Drums, Nickname: “Ah-chan” and "Gorilla" because she eats lots of bananas for her stamina and is a BEAST on drums. Lost her little hat back in 2018....a sad day indeed. MISA (Mee-sah) - Bass Guitar, Nickname: "The Barefoot Assassin" MISA always performs barefoot as she states she likes to feel the music through her feet, and "kills" everything she plays. Kanami Tono (Kah-nah-mee) - Lead Guitar/Genius Songwriter Nickname: "Mincho" “Kanamincho” ……Miku’s guitar Sensei. Miku Kobato (Mee-koo) - Band-Maid Spokesperson/Rhythm Guitar/Lyricist/Founder/Backing Vocals/Lead Vocals…hardest working girl in music. Nickname: "Little Pigeon" (Miku’s surname means “Little Pigeon”) ....po! Getting caught up in Band-Maid means going down the “Pigeon Hole”…….. no rabbits here. Saiki Atsumi (Sy-kee) -Lead Vocals Nickname: "The Princess" “Si-chan”. Saiki may be called The Princess but Miku is The Queen…..also Saiki is Kanami’s “crush”.
I'd suggest the Manners/Black Hole two-fer. The two songs were released together under a Covid era Japanese Government program that helped out with funding for international distribution of artists unable to perform in public. Though no audience was In the room, the show was streamed live (The band actually had several live streamed shows including an acoustic Christmas show during this time). Manners is a great bluesy rock throwback and Black Hole? Well... you'll see!
Actually the best Hard Rock band on the planet. They have more than 110 SUPER GOOD songs, and maybe 10 GOOD songs. I don't know how they can have so much good songs... _maybe because they are ASIANS._
I agree about bassists with picks. The reason is that the bass is much more of a right-handed instrument (technique) than the guitar. The pick is a singular technique, (more or less) with the bass, whereas the fingers can provide a whole range of techniques. But, Misa also has a very cool technique of burying the pick between her fingers and slapping. She really makes people feel differently about that pick on that instrument. And, there definitely are some notable bass players with picks, such as Justin Chancellor from Tool.
Nice! Excited to see more of her techniques. And yes, tons of amazing bass players that use picks. Too many to name. Especially in hard rock and metal. Love Chancellor’s sound
If you want to hear a softer emotional side to listen to Daydream , (Best heart stabbing solo ever), About us, or Memorable. Tonight my favorite Band-Maid song is Miko Kobata singing a song that really makes MISA shine, "Sayonakidori" Acoustic Ver.
Damn it, I hope someone sends you the white room instrumental video of Giovanni. That one also has a vocal for the original version so hopefully you can watch both soon! You will be amazed how our resident pigeon (Rhythm guitarist and band founder Miku Kobato) was able to come up with lyrics for that song.
I love to watch your reactions, it's a real hoot. These ladies, and a hell of a lot more ladies from Asia are just tearing it up. And now South Korea is getting into the mix with a very edgy hard rock all female band named Rolling Quartz and they had a great tour here in 2023 and got very good reactions. Nemophila, Lovebites, Doll$Box, Gacharic Spin, Aldious, Trident, SCANDAL Japan's real veteran rockers who are entering their 18th year together) and many others. I know I missed some. I once counted 20 different female groups.
@@AudioLunch Subscribed. Great performance and reaction! BAND-MAID is awesome. I like your channel. If you would like to explore more, may I suggest a reaction to BABYMETAL. Once at a battle of the bands, I lent my bass to a dude because the battery in his bass died just before they were about to go on stage and he didn't have time to replace it.
Y'all might want to go back to the early years of Band-Maid. In November 2014, they released the music video for the song Thrill. Management didn't particularly want this song for a mv, but the band insisted because it was the type of music they wanted to play. Upon release, not much happened and the band was on the verge ending. Then in summer of 2015, the mv began to pick up views, especially from the west, notably Mexico and the US. The mv became a UA-cam sensation (currently over 20 million views) and Band-Maid now had some bigtime traction. Thrill is the song and mv that literally save Band-Maid. In watching the video, you will notice that Miku is never actually shown playing the guitar. This is because she had no idea how to play. When it became clear that Band-Maid was going to survive and that crowds were going to grow, someone had to be the second guitarist and Saiki, the vocalist, made it clear that it would not be her. Thus started Miku's journey to become the rhythm guitarist in a band with 3 great musicians that were quickly becoming world-class. Miku was not the visionary that solely had the idea for the band but she has also time and again been gutsy enough to do whatever it takes to make Band-Maid successful. Here is Thrill - ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html This next link is not for reaction but to give you an idea of the personality of the band, in this case primarily Miku and Misa. I saw Band-Maid in October, 2022 at the House of Blues in Dallas. This video is from their next show in Houston. It is not a song, but of one of the breaks in the music where they get a short rest but also entertain the crowd - ua-cam.com/video/6X7IIvUvGHQ/v-deo.html
The next one - any of their songs - they’re that good. But, for the fun of it - “Puzzle” - official live video - “Influencer” - OMV - “Shambles” - OMV - “Play” - official Live video That’s a start. You’ll get 50 other suggestions from other Maidiacs. 🤷🏻♂️😂. You can’t go wrong with the best rock band on the planet 🌎 and probably the best in 4 decades. (5? 6? Ever? 😂) Take care and rock on 🤘🏼🔥🎸🥁🎤🎹🎶😎✌🏼
instrumentals, vocals, acoustics, there's nothing that the can't seem to turn their hands to. Mixing an matching styles. Multitudinal in their use of musical genres. They also have a habit of playing Aprils Fools on the fans. According to the Rhythm Guitarist Miku they eat and drink like pirates after a gig. Akane is a furniture store loving foodie. Saiki the lead singer will let you know what she thinks whether you like it or not and is not adverse to dropping an F bomb on stage or in a song. Misa likes a drink off and on stage, the latter being barefoot. Kanami the lead guitarist is a sweet, gentle soul until she straps on a guitar. On stage, be it big or small they give it their all and we love em for it
You just heard the BEST rock band on the planet !!!!!! Period.
Want more? Just pick one randomly!
Some advice: "Dice MV", "Play Live", "Manners, Blackhole", "Onset", "Corallium (Live at Eggman)", " Rinne MV", "Freedom Live", "Influencer", "Alone" and so on ❤😂
Their musicianship is top notch. But watching the fan cams & their informal videos & interviews, you get the sense that they are also good hearted, caring, fun and hardworking friends. They all came from humble beginnings and have no egos among them.
Puzzle...🎶🎸🥁🎸🎶🔥🙂🕊
MISA uses both a pick and slaps, depending on what she feels the song calls for. She even switches up in the middle of songs. She has a technique where she can flip the pick onto her palm and back in the space of a single note. If you guys check out one of their other instrumentals, Onset there is a good shot of her doing this during her solo but don't blink or you'll miss it. And yes, she is always barefoot when on stage playing.
She also plucks in a couple of songs and in the acoustic set. She does all three techniques wel. But she often uses a pick because of the sound/attack. She wants her sound to be aggressive enough.
We've seen her TAP! She can do anything! She plays LEAD on Sayonakidori acoustic
Awesome! Excited to see in play in all styles. Loving it so far. . Thanks
Awesome! Thanks for the info. Magic spell? Im intrigued
Plus she slays with that bass!🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻🤘🏻Misa Misa Misa!🤘🏻🤘🏻
@@3364deanTechnically speaking, MISA doesn’t perform in bare feet as she always has fishnet stockings on. No sole is likely a closer description which is also probably more fitting with BM concept of ‘Gap’ since MISA is all Soul with her music.
Awesome! Thanks for the great comment and info. She is killer! 😉
Mincho actually introduced the Bogner as if it was a new band member and posted when it arrived like the big kid she is
Both The Warning and Bandmaid switched to those little oranges at the same time not long after meeting each other.
MISA can pick, pluck, and slap, and by holding the pick in her folded index finger, she can move between modes instantly.
Awesome! I will pay closer attention in the future
If you watch the domination live video guys did when they zoom in on her during her little solo section you can see her switching back and forth from the pick and fingers and slapping. She palms the pick while shes playing.
she could probably play it with her nose if she so desired 😊
all while bare foot
Impossible not to be impressed by "From Now On". A masterpiece.
Onset live is another instrumental masterpiece
Absolutely.
I had already liked Band-Maid for a couple of years, but when they dropped a promo for their 2022 tour featuring a teaser for this track, I dropped everything and IMMEDIATELY purchased a ticket.
Me too! I bought a ticket the literal moment they became available! Ditto when they played last year! Hoping they tour here again this year! 🤞
Misa switches from a pick to slap and back in a lot of their songs. Watch the online version of NO GOD live from a few years ago and wear a seat belt. It will literally blow you out of your seats. She doesn't wear shoes when performing and she likes to have a nip or two on stage during performances. Listen to how she weaves in and out of the music to tie it all together.
she does finger style also depending on the song "Thrill" is one example
I know, and her acoustic work is totaly in the finger style too quite often. She can do it all and it's amazing to watch sometimes. The best part is that she's very tasteful, in my opinion.@@DavidMISAMISAMISACook
@@topographic1973ify no arguments from me only for me it ALWAYS amazing to watch/hear
'I love the bass player!' - get in line there buddy 😉 MISA is not only extremely talented, but absolutely stunning! 🥰
Seen them twice in the past few years. They played for round 2 hours each time. Best 2 concerts I've ever been to!
At the Philly show they played Onset & this (both instrumentals) back to back. That got the biggest cheers of the nite
BTW - MISA can slap, pick, sometimes both in same song. Even seen her tap once (Clang live version)!
I suggest these Band Maid songs: Thrill, Dice, Manners, Bubble, No God (live) & Puzzle (live)
Even better live. Really.
Corallium, Live at Eggman, enough said, lol. Love the reaction guys, nice to see, subbed just to watch the journey, lol, keep'em comin' pls. Just be warned they have an addictive quality to them.
Awesome! Thank you!
Bad ass. Excited to see more of her bass playing techniques. Cheers!
Thats awesome! Cant wait to see more
Great thing about the "CLANG" video is MISA does make a small mistake (rare as hens teeth) Which she acknowledges with a little head shake and grin.
“DICE” official music video. It’s an appropriate next step. “Domination” is an example of their arena pop rock. “From Now On” is one of 4 instrumental tracks, this one being their most “metal.”
“DICE” is their offering of 80’s rock blended with post hardcore punk and alternative rock. But most of all? It’s a one song introduction to their unique “formula” of genre blending and masterful songwriting.
1) The riff
2) The balance among players
3) The major mode uplifting chorus
4) Bass to Guitar features
4) The Bridge drop
5) The drive home
After that? “Blooming,” OMV, where they bring post hardcore punk to the front and deliver one of the most magnificent bridges and “drives home” you’ll ever hear in modern music
🤘🏽 My first concert? KISS 1978
My most recent? Band Maid 2023
My life is complete
This is a pretty solid next few steps.
What he said..........in spades. And let's not forget "YOLO", it gives "Dice" a good run for the money.
Haha. Yes! Love the comment. Good stuff
Some of their most metal music is their concert intros..they are fire!..wish they'd release them as an EP.
YES! Misa genius.
Good reaction. My favorite instrumental. You should check out their previous instrumental, "Without Holding Back". As for Misa, she can play everything with fingers too. The way she switches from pick to bass slapping is impressive. There are no weak Band Maid songs, so you have plenty of material to work with.
Discovered them in January last year. saw them live in May on the first leg of their US tour.
Kanami is a musical genius. MISA is a prodigy on bass...Akane is just a beast...best rock band on the planet
basically a supergroup that organically formed
Welcome to the Maidiacs. I love these ladies so much it's a bit insane. You really can't go wrong with any of their songs but I'm going to recommend"Play" live, "Without Holding Back", "Dice" mv, "Puzzle" official live video,"Shambles" mv, "Real Existence" olv to start.
Just simply the best rock band on the planet. They have rekindled my love of music that had been largely missing for a very long time. Lucky enough to have seen them twice in concert and will see them again when the opportunity arises.
Okay I just had my brain ripped out of my one ear hole this is pretty awesome😂😂
They opened a Gun's&Roses concert with this song!I think Axl Rose cried a litle, because he can't write this kind of music anymore!
😳
Anymore?? FYI! The whole band cried.
Kanami🥰took the vocals in her own hands on this one.
Misa switches between pluck and pick "On the fly". Tucks pick between fingers.
I have heard them play this live twice ... just sensational! Love this band!! Thanks for the reaction.
Omajinai Time is the _most_ important time. 😉

MISA MISA MISA!!!!!
Also check out music tracks "I'll" from Sense, and "I Still Seek Revenge" from Unseen World.
Thank you for the Misa recommendations. Cheers
they are well diverse and dynamically good band they exist
The double MV "Manners - Black Hole" would be perfect at this stage of your discovery of Band-Maid. Prepared to be blown away (of course), but also to discover two different sides of the band. And later there will be tons more facets to this diamond you just found, believe me.
MISA plays a five string bass her signature model. The Maids use this song to rest their lead singer during concerts.
Welcome to the BAND-MAID swamp!
Next time, try "Blooming" or "Shambles"!

This Band Is Incredible
Thanks for the info. Cheers

The Band Maid song I love is the music Video for the song Warning where she's on the roof of a moving car.

You discovered them just in time to celebrate their ten years together! Well, 2023 was 10 years. These women are freakin' cool af.

Manners / Black Hole live is a great 2 fer, 2 very different songs

I like "Play" live...
Bubble, Fate, matchless GUM, Start Over.........my playlist for BAND-MAID, just under 6 hours. 😂
Yes, tons of great deep tracks.
Nice variety of styles there....They have something for everyone..which reminds me of Queen.
My actual favorite they Lollapalooza festival performance from last year. The songs Dice & HATE 😉 enjoy...but the all time favorite PUZZLE 😉
try Moratorium from the Zep concert... it will shake you
They do magic spells too,
😲
The thing to understand about Band Maid is that they have tremendous talent mixed with a crazy work ethic. I have been listening to rock and metal for 40 years. I have never heard a tighter band live. I have had the pleasure of seeing them live 3 times, and they sound as good or even better than their studio cuts. It is almost like they are of one mind. Only Tool and King Crimson have come close to the live perfection of Band Maid. Plus, they have fun the entire time, and it is infectious!
Next up.....Play LIVE is a must !!!!!!!!!!
Peace. 3.16
Misa plays whatever style the song calls for. If you want to see some slap the check out Play Live
What a rock and roll beat down. These ladies cook 🔥
You will get loads of suggestions, so I am going to be selfish and suggest my favourite, 'Blooming' the official music video. Enjoy !!
(Lead guitar)
last year drove from SW Ks to Austin , Tx to see these ladies what a show and i would do it again
Band-Maid Is:
Akane Hirose (Ah-kah-nee or Ah-kah-nay) -Drums, Nickname: “Ah-chan” and "Gorilla" because she eats lots of bananas for her stamina and is a BEAST on drums.
Listen to the new live version of Unleashed!!!!!!
No bad songs, truly impressive!
Kanami and her PRS are a force to be reckoned with as much power as a tsunami.
Welcome aboard maidiacs , well be here for your journey down the pigeon hole, po!
They dropped some new live official videos for "Hate?" and "Don't You Tell Me". Will blow you away!
Spin the wheel on their UA-cam channel they only have amazing music. Misa plays Barefoot unless it's a hot outdoor stage ❤❤❤
🤘🤘🤘
I love to watch your reactions, it's a real hoot. These ladies, and a hell of a lot more ladies from Asia are just tearing it up. And now South Korea is getting into the mix with a very edgy hard rock all female band named Rolling Quartz and they had a great tour here in 2023 and got very good reactions. Nemophila, Lovebites, Doll$Box, Gacharic Spin, Aldious, Trident, SCANDAL Japan's real veteran rockers who are entering their 18th year together) and many others. I know I missed some. I once counted 20 different female groups.
Thanks for watching and for recommendations. Cheers
@@AudioLunch Subscribed. Great performance and reaction! BAND-MAID is awesome. I like your channel. If you would like to explore more, may I suggest a reaction to BABYMETAL. They have a worldwide following of very loyal fans (known as The One). They are unique. Their music has a positive and uplifting message. They have a fun and awesome performance:
BABYMETAL - PA PA YA!! (feat. F.HERO) (OFFICIAL)
Or:
MAYA【Live Blu-ray/DVD「BABYMETAL BEGINS - THE OTHER ONE -」"BLACK NIGHT"】
Or to showcase the lead singer’s amazing voice:
BABYMETAL - Monochrome - Piano ver. / THE FIRST TAKE 🖖 ❤
Akane may be the best drummer in rock right now. BandMaid may be the Beatles of this generation
I'd like to see a showdown between Akane and Haruna from Lovebites. That would be awesome. I'll put my money on Haruna.
@@OlettaLiano Haruna is hands down the best metal drummer alive. Always on time, always in the pocket. I personally give the edge to Akane, I think she would be superb in any genre of music. My opinion only. Tamu from Nemophelia is another superstar.
@@lkm55 All true, and it's not a competition. Most musicians support each other. I know I always did when I was playing in bands.
Here is Thrill - ua-cam.com/video/Uds7g3M-4lQ/v-deo.html
This next link is not for reaction but to give you an idea of the personality of the band, in this case primarily Miku and Misa.
But, for the fun of it
- “Puzzle” - official live video
- “Influencer” - OMV
- “Shambles” - OMV
- “Play” - official Live video
That’s a start. You’ll get 50 other suggestions from other Maidiacs. 🤷🏻♂️😂. You can’t go wrong with the best rock band on the planet 🌎 and probably the best in 4 decades. (5? 6? Ever? 😂)
Take care and rock on 🤘🏼🔥🎸🥁🎤🎹🎶😎✌🏼
Haha. Awesome. Thanks for the great comment
Next instrumental Without holding back
instrumentals, vocals, acoustics, there's nothing that the can't seem to turn their hands to.
