Drop us your BEST idea for Tim’s bow build.. we’re building it tomorrow and would like to do something fun and different than the normal run of the mill build! 👇 happy 2023 ya’ll it’s going to be a great year
Apa bows
You guys are doing great thanks for all the info you put out there.. you guys doing alot of walking what SOCKS do you guys wear I can’t find any that work for me
long, full length build with MFJJ
Try stretching the strings before you install them in a homemade string stretcher, won't matter anyway tim is gonna loose at tac
If there’s anyway at all you guys can go Hello Kitty on his bow I really think it will be next level.
FWIW I’ve got 3 of those Bitz jigs, all setup exactly the same and only one produces the most beautiful vanes. It’s able to put it just a little more twist in those vanes than the other two.
DCA custom arrows makes an arrow piece that has degree marks on it to help line up your jig to a certain degree helical/offset you are looking to achieve. i run 2.5 degrees on my set up. great video guys.
OK, I can't wait to see the advanced arrow testing that JJ is talking about doing. Inquiring minds want to know. I'm sticking with the EZ Fletch Mini Max... nothing better or easier. And if the parachute effect is a concern for TAC, you can always use a lower profile vane (since you're using field points anyway)
DCA custom arrows has a piece of an arrow u put in the jig to find degree!
This DCA vane angle tool is slick. You can find them on Lancaster or their website.
You beat me to it
Only works on 204 arrows though
@@jarredrush9544 I asked DCA that and they said it works with other diameters too.
Another awesome video! Great job!! I believe the 75x105 was popular when you didn't have drop away rests and risers that were cut-out, because you would have less disturbance from feathers striking rest or riser. Better clearance. Still popular today for traditional bows where feather still contact riser while being shot. I still have four Bitzenburgers in use from 1980!
Love you guys! Keep the bangers coming!💯
Love this style of video, you guys just chillin, shooting the shit, comedic banter, great stuff boys! 👍
I love your informative content, I’m constantly learning something from you guys. You guys should do 100 yard vane accuracy comparisons with a hooter shooter indoors at a warehouse somewhere. Compare accuracy versus speed. Compare different helical’s all fired on the exact same arrow build. I would love to see you do some thing like that. Keep up the good work you guys are awesome!
Love this kind of content! Looking forward to MFJJ's vane tests!!!!
One thing I do with my jig that I have been fletching arrows with since about 1978 is mark the starting point on the knob that rotates the arrow. That way, any minor differences in arrow position created by the mechanism itself is repeated fletch by fletch on every arrow. Probably not a big deal, but eliminates another potential inconsistency between arrows.
Really excited for this collaboration again
Love the longer vids!!
Awesome guys! Thanks for the info!
Great content! There are high speed camera videos of arrows with proper rotation to the bow string after CLOCKING THE SHAFT and then going counter rotation and it makes a huge difference with rotation in the Correct Clocking direction. So like you said increasing the efficiency of your set up so offset could give you better rotation in proper direction in your case you said counter clockwise as oppose to Helical in wrong direction giving you more drag and slowing your arrow..
Nice job guys! Always picking up pearls from you guys Thanks
Another bad ass video, interested in seeing how all the different set ups perform for the crew this year!!
I also own both of the AAE Bitz knobs...the 344 and the 456 They are incredible! I would like to add one very important point of the AAE knobs is if you bare shaft and index your nocks the knob allows you to loosen a lock screw. Then turn the arrow (without turning the nock) to perfectly line up your index mark with the cock vane on a 120 x 3 or perfectly line up the center of a 90 x 4. It's an awesome feature. Wouldn't it be great to have a jig that as you adjust the jig you could have micro click in 1/2 degree increments left or right?
Elkshape and M F J J !!! 2023 is starting off great!
I am starting to become a fan of this channel. Two archers having a conversation, it’s simple. Damn kool guys ..
Would love to see mfjj prove which helical degree is best 👌
I made an x wing arrow about two years ago. It was just some thing fun to have when you are out shooting and some one notices when you send it down range. Just lightens the day up a little bit.
JUst got back into building my arrows , was using the Arizona , quick and easy , but not consistent . Just got two Bitzers , one for .246 arrows and one for .204 , once modified and set up , just love it . Something satisfying about relaxing and fletching arrows to my liking . The results are far superior . I did add the AAE knock mod to each . Excellent upgrade for knock point sbut even more for replacing single vane . Couldnt be happier .
I’ve been using the Bohning helix tower fletching jig. With a 3 inch left helical. With 2.25 TAC Driver vanes with no issues as of yet. I’ve been running these since last June.
I'm here for the info and the comradery. 👍👍👍
DCA makes a helical / off set measuring gauge. It's a sticker on an arrow shaft, I believe it's spec'd up to 3 degrees left or right.
We used the x wing as you call it in the late 80's early 90's for cable clearance. Still having clearance on finger rests like a star hunter or plunger and support arm. Today I will use 75/105 keeps upper inside vane from hitting my face if I shoot 4 fletch.
Been shooting max helical left for a couple years now and like Dan has said countless time, never have I ever run into a problem of my point coming loose.
Thanks for the awesome content and shop fun! Keep up the good work, I am going to run aae hybrid HP 4 fletch- 90 and a few x-wings in a dozen just for Tinkering!
Right on!
I have a bitz and an ez fletch and I fletched up 12 arrows yesterday 6 at 500 grains and the other 6 at 420 grains. The groups were great with both. Use either with confidence
If you get the archery trigger for the labradar, it is very accurate. The problem with shooting thru a regular chrono at distance is you have a tiny window to try and hit to get consistent readings. There is a small middle section you need to hit every time, any deviation from the "sweet spot" causes irregular readings. You can test it by shooting up close and shooting towards the top of the supports, then shoot low, left and right. Been deep down that rabbit hole lol. The archery trigger is key to the labradar though, without it i got funky readings too.
Always willing to try something new tried the sabers and kinda like them.
You’re right, there are stickers for the bitzenberger jig for degrees. They’re called the “Master Buck Cali-Bitz Bitzenberger Jig Calibration Decals.” They only cost a few bucks and are totally worth it.
Been using the Ez jig with 2.75 tac vanes. Just have to use tac primer pen and glue and clean arrows. Just let sit for 30 seconds and use a thin strip of glue down the whole vane base and use a q-tip through the slits in the jig to wipe access glue. Been holding strong for 5 months now.
I'm looking forward to your testing videos! For TAC I'm running AAE Pro Max vanes (four fletch) on Black Eagle X-Impact shafts with glue in points. For hunting I'm running AAE Max 23 vanes (four fletch) on Black Eagle X-Impact and Easton Axis 4mm shafts with the Iron Will Snyder Core System. ABT!
You could set up a chrono at different distances and build a protective box for it, or get a Labradar and get live downrange speeds every 10 yards to 100... mine arrived a couple months ago, but weather has prevented me using it yet.
Solid video as always fellas 👍 they have a wrap with degrees on it you can put on a arrow and set your jig, there’s also stickers for the jig itself I think LAS sells both, also if you left fletch the clamp won’t hit the jig
I bought the zenith kit for my blitz. I’ve been happy with that for micro arrows.
I love my Bitzenburger arrow jig, the only problem is that if you want your nock fletch in the up position (different color nock fletch) you have to rotate your nock approximately 33*. The problem is when you damage a fletch and try to replace it with the Bitzenburger, you'll to remember exactly where you originally had the nock. Other than that, it's a great fletching tool. I
know I'm not as smart as MFJJ, that is why I watch all of his videos and elk shape videos. Looking forward to what is the best offset straight, 2% offset or the 6%. Thanks for all the info!!
I personally like using the bohning multi fletch jig for arrow building. I've been using it for the last two years and haven't had any issues or heard any complaints from family, friends and others I have built arrows for. It's less moving parts for me.
I learn a lot about a jig Jay would make a great teacher
To answer Dan's question about the stickers on the jig to check angle: Master Buck Cali-Bitz Bitzenberger Jig Calibration Decals
Cool episode thanks for the content boys!👍🏻🍻🇺🇸🦌
im a western hunter out in south west arizona practice out to 125 yards. i only use the AZ EZ fletch extreme helical left. my arrows do not parachute with a large two blade iron will broadheads .
Love to see a review on the omp jig coming out.
Same! Hope we can get one
Yes there is a degree sticker, I have them on mine. Called the master buck cali bitz and you can get it from Lancaster
Ive used wraps with angles and i can get a maximum of 2.5-3 degree helical using the helical clamp
Yes please do a video with accuracy test on right vs left helical for a left clocked bow(Mathews). I was just looking into this a few days ago and only found Lancaster’s video out there which is a couple of years old.
What is your opinion on the Last Chance Vane jig?
Tested the clocking right and left at 80 and I couldn't shoot a difference in accuracy.
Gotta say you redeemed and MFJJ is now my favorite watch. Both of you**
Middle of the road is where I’m learning between @ranchfairy and what you guys are. Pigs are different musculature. But I’ve never shot an elk. Good old commercial hunting hasn’t brought them back. *so they say.
Perfect timing. This dumb dumb just picked up a bitz to fletch my first arrows. Vap tko going with max stealth vanes
Over the last thirty plus years I’ve experimented with I don’t know how many vanes, arrow brands and spines, points and fixed blade heads. I’ve never used a mechanical as there’s no physical reason to use them. And when I change to different shafts I experiment more. It’s a game in my mind. And to win is getting super awesome flight out of each shaft.
What do you guys at Elk Shape and Podium Archer think about the DCA Sabre vanes?
I fletched up my tac vanes using my vane master pro and it worked flawlessly. However it was only a 3 degree.
4 fletch 2 degree left off set AEE hybrid 26 , nice video again !
Thanks 👍
Great video. Can you guys do a fletching comparison video. And noise test with various brands available. Id like to see how you guys feel about silent knight vanes
2 things. First great video, please do more of these for the at home DIY people. Would also love to see a review or list of equipment you think most people should have at home. Personally, I am in the market for a bow vise for doing some home tuning and would love some information about what I should be looking for, what's recommended, etc.
Second, just a bit of criticism (sorry), when filming things like this where you are explaining and showing people how to do things, show what you are doing more than focusing so close on people's faces.
Yes!! This video is driving my OCD crazy. Fantastic content, terrible camera work this time! What is the sudden obsession with sticking the camera in everyone's face? They are normally awesome in the camera department but an entire video of facial close ups...what is going on!?
Content is key
I absolutely love you guys content and videos are normally awesome, but couldn't agree more on this video. I almost had to turn it off it was stressing me out so much. Way too close and way too much movement.
I totally agree. I learned a lot from this video but I’m a visual learner so them explaining things and me not being able to SEE IT was making me restless lol 😆
I decided to find another video to watch instead because of this same reason.
I loved to see Dan say he will be run 2 degree off set max stealth vains for 2023 because it tells me that my east axis 5mm with 2 degree off set max stealth aren't to far off.
Perfect video between friends.
Thank you !
Have you guys used the Bohning Cauldron jig? Seemed like a one stop option that can handle multiple fletching choices (straight, R or L helical, and multiple degree offset)
What vanes and angle/offset would you recommend for 65lbs 28.5” draw, with magnus stinger buzz cut? I have heat vanes right now had some real odd arrow flights during practice over 30 yards.
Thanks you américans brothers for all explication Iaorana from Tahiti
Tac vanes with Firenock jig, you can’t go big offset or crazy helical. Same issue as the bitz.
You do need to grind down the bitz helical Jig though to make it work
I use a Labradar and can measure arrow speed at 100 yards easy enough. It will pick up speeds raight out of the bow and I can set 3 more distances of my choosing to record FPS. If I remember the lighter arrows (under 500 gr) were slower at the bow but more equal at the 100 yard range,,,, they maintained more momentum.
Thank you, ABT
Have any of you guys tried aerovane 3s? They seem like a good idea but curious how well they work.
Can you guys do a review on the redline dtm or torch sights
DCA CUSTOM ARROWS does the vane alignment wrap deal. They also do a super sabre vane. Ive got some and built a set for a buddy of mine. He loved them just because they were different. White vane with bohning white tiger stripe wrap
DCA customs arrows makes the tool you were mentioning Dan. Its a mini arrow shaft that you can match up and put in the nock receiver and it will tell you what offset you are at on your Bitz. Also love the ball busting back and forth guys lmao
It only works for .204 arrows though
@@jarredrush9544 i was wondering this…so good thing its useless for my new VAP SS i built seeing as i cant find the thing anyway now lol
Y’all should try the bohning multi Fletcher. It has a 3 degree right and left
Ordered a true helical rt and it’s the easiest fletching jig I have every used
V Force .245 with 3 fletch DCA saber vanes 3 deg R helical bohning tower
If you guys go to beavers bend this year hopefully I'll see you there!
MFJJ my dude. Just use the LabRadar (Ballistic Velocity Doppler Radar Chronograph) to show the speed degradation of the arrows. You could make some pretty sweet graphs showing the speeds at 20,40,60 etc. That way you can test bare shafts vs 2 degree, vs heavy helical.
Agreed. They are very accurate. I think he is just being difficult, and I have noticed that he is a borderline ideologue when it comes to his archery. Everything that disagrees with his ideals is either completely wrong or mostly wrong. He is very biased and unwilling to admit he is wrong most of the time.
@@wk9953 But that is why it is fun to listen to him. Wealth of knowledge and we all have 2 options. Take it as the gospel or test it out to form our own opinions.
@joshuaoestreich1182 Agreed. Sometimes, the arrogance is too much, but I always watch and listen before forming my opinions and taking what I can and leaving the rest
Have you guys thought about running the aae hybrid 23 vanes?
Great info! Check out @podium archer’s videos he just did it a couple months ago in Hawaii, moved his unprotected Chrono progressively all the way out to 100 yards and clocked speed erosion, pretty cool to watch
VICTORY ARROWS come with index mark on the shaft which I would think should improve consistency and accuracy!
That Bob Smith Glue is the bomb…ill prob never use another glue after using that
@ elk shape My pro shop and y’all got me shooting max helical to and I’m shooting to the left. Been shooting fixed heads out to 60 yards and shooting good groups. I’m not shooting broads past that bc I’ll loose them lol
The source of the "natural" rotation coming off the bow?
Could it be induced by:
1)the direction the strings are twisted during mfg?
2) or a left handed shooter vs a right hand shooter?
3) or knock travel during release?
Or.... ?
The Ranch Fairy and Rocket man episode is gold when deciding fletching. The Rocket Man is exactly that. Rocket scientist for the military and he has the math and testing to prove what he’s saying. Everyone else is just guessing.
Just watched this again… dang I miss these days
So I accidentally made my first set of four fletch in the old x pattern instead of the evenly spaced one lol What's disadvantage of that as you mentioned?
Josh you crack me up 😂
Do you sell the primer pen?
VAP TKO w/ AAE Max Stealth and Im going to test them against VAP TKO w/ 2” Blazers, both sets full left helical
Any benefit to 4 vs 3 fletchings?
Great stuff, I shoot FMJs and my pro shop insists on using wraps with TAC vanes saying it won’t stick. Just got a bitz to start building my own, do I have to have wraps on Aluminum with TAC vanes?
Shaft prep, and use their glue is my experience. I haven’t been able to get them to stick any other way without using cresting(sticker)
I have fletched a few dozen arrows with TAC Driver 2.75 with no issues on the AZ EZ fletch. Not sure. I have ever encountered the issue stated myself.
Will the ez fletch fit a 4mm arrow?
If your arrow w/o vanes comes counter clockwise, then wouldn’t the broad head tend to unscrew with the arrow flight and impact, can you comment on how to solve this aside from gluing the broad head.
Headzup bitz users, you can modify the jig to get a better left fletch with the straight clamp, just by expanding the screw hole in the adjustment knobs.
If you want a left fletch on a smaller diameter arrow, the bitz isnt very good at it stock
What do you guys think of the Quickfletch vanes?
You kinda gave 4 fletch blazers a dig for longer range. What have you had better BH groups with?
DCA has a degree measuring arrow device for the bitz
I could be wrong but isn’t it best to have the fletchings as far back as possible because it would rather than moving the center of gravity forward it would move the center of pressure further back? I think moving the center of pressure further back would help the arrow be more stable
Higher risk of vanes contacting your face when having them pushed far back on the arrow
I’m a visual learner, if someone you’re filming is talking about or showing specific parts of bows or equipment, can you film the specific part instead of their face? I’m enjoying the content and the improvements you’ve made along the way!
if you are clocking left wouldnt you want a left helical, instead of trying to force your arrow to the right with right helical?
Isn’t the Labradar the most accurate chrono?
I prefer to install my vanes perpendicular to the shaft. The only challenge is powering the vanes past the rest, but after that it's onward and upward.
I shoot a Hoyt carbon rx7
Victory vap 350 with 1 degree offset and I keep having one fletching come off constantly any suggestions why this keeps happening
