So envious, maybe one day I’ll be able to get a press. Right now I’m using a modified bicycle vice to hold my bow. But I’m not sure how you can work in a “black” shop….then again I wear glasses too. I’m using a Bohning Cauldron at 3 degrees R helical for my Max Stealth vanes, and a Bitz with the R clamp for my 4 fletch target arrows using Q2i vanes. I also built my own arrows spinner using bearings out of fidget spinners. Hey, I’m a senior on a fixed income. Gotta make do.
Knowledge is power, so learning to work on your own bow is a good thing. Not every archery shop will help you learn how to build a bow. I decided a few years ago that I wanted to learn the process and when I asked a pro shop to show me the ropes, they replied, "if we do that you won't need us any longer." I put together a home archery shop over the course of a couple of years that closely resembles what you recommend. Now, when I need to change something on my bow, I simply go to the archery shop and do it myself. No driving, waiting, begging for work to be done. I get to learn, change things and put them together the way I want. Thanks for the work.
Started to do my own veins with a blitz jig and now I’m diving deeper into doing my own stuff love the channel, looks like you’ve got a good group of guys there!
Arrow Saw - X-spot Mini/Decut Mini has been great for me but now that the full size is on sale for only like $20 more I'd probably go for that one if buying again. Some people complain that there is play in the mini but if you set it up correctly I have found it to be rock solid
I’ve learned so much from all of you guys, and I actually started building my own little shop to work on my own bow. Keep the good info coming and hope you get 100k soon!
x-spot pro arrow saw does a great job for me cutting my arrows. I am slowly putting together my own garage shop myself and I have been happy with that arrow saw.
I saved a bunch of money by building my own last chance style bow press. I also built a string jig and stretcher. So I make strings for me and my buddies. After figuring out how to work on my own stuff. there's not many shops I would trust to do it the way I want it
Had both the bubble levels come off my podium archery string level. Also had the glue fail on a podium archery stabilizer. Reached out to Josh on the stabilizer, he was going to send me a new stab but it was an easy fix on my end (J/B weld). So excellent customer service there. For the string level; I just reglued the bubbles back on the with gorilla super glue but my confidence level dropped a notch on podium products. I get so much info and entertainment from both Josh and Dan on this channel that I want to support them both but also wanted to give some honest feedback. Dan had the same issue with the string level so probably not a one-off.
Westin arrow saw. About $150. One thing about diy is that you can do it all as soon as you want. No waiting on a pro shop, no “Friday” or “Monday” style half ass bow maintenance. Plus, the less time you are spending wasting a techs time with stuff you should be doing, is time they can spend getting new people really dialed in and new people really need that.
Nice shop. I’ve been in the process of building one for a while now and I have 2 things left. Bow press and arrow saw. I’ve even been building my own arrows for a couple years now but I just go to my pro shop and they cut them to size for me. I definitely gotta get a arrow saw. I have a cheap bow vise though. I would love to get the OMP vise. They are awesome and worth the money. The arrow level Hamskea just come out with is a must to. I can’t wait to get my shop together. It will be nice to not have to worry about going to the pro shop all the time.
Arrow saw: Weston Arrow Saw 8000 RPM (52-0501-W) I've been using this saw for the past 10 years for the 3 archers in my home as well as hundreds of. 4H Kids. Love the thin wheel that sands the edges smooth as they cut.
Dan man Thanks for the tips, I’m buying my own DIY setup I’m gonna start in the basement but I’m motivated to grow and do what you guys do I love the sport I love to learn and grow so thankyou guys for keeping the sport alive and learning together!!!
Just had this conversation with thr Mrs's tonight. The closest thing to me is a big box store 40 minutes away, and while they're nice enough they just don't do very good work (no soft nock, peep is twisting and barely tied in, d loop is starting to spin) so I just have to start saving up to buy the tools to do it myself. Appreciate thr run through and build out costs, definitely a process that will take a good bit of time to buy along the way.
I really like the Carbon Express arrow Saw! It cuts extremely well and it also comes with a carbon dust collector. It’s inexpensive and it hasn’t let me down since! 🤙🏻🔨🔨
I'm new to archery, and I started to work on my bow, because In the shop I don't get what I want. /buy it and take it. / If I can do it, why I have to pay for it?? I changed my cables, tied d-loops, timing the cams, set up arrow rest, paper tuning.... All this for free. I made mistakes, but that's how we learn .MFJJ Videos helps a lot. 🙌😎 So if you want to learn, watch lots of videos. Helps a lot!!!
@@ElkShapeI’ve learned so much from you and MFJJ. I’ve bought a lot of stuff. Now I gotta work on the big stuff, press, vise, and saw. Getting there little by little still learning but getting there thanks for the vids and advice thank you all You Josh and Timmy. 🙏🏽
Awesome video, great information. Not as many years in the Archery world as you but I have a deep passion for it. Every video makes me want to push harder to be the best bowhunter possible and to create better content myself. Thanks for the push.
My home shop looks very similar mostly all the same stuff. But mine is not as clean or organized right now. Target stand I made and my paper stand also home made. Desks were for fletching and other things were free from a nursing home my mom works at! Shop is 1/4 of my basement. Crazy the stuff you collect over the years.
I’ve been watching these guys for a little I over a year and DANG. I’ve been shooting since I was 8, and being able to watch these guys do what they love to do and I want to do is so dope. Y’all have helped me be a better archer and have fallen in love more and more with this sport because of y’all!! Keep doing what you do and NST! All love.
Dan- Have to say that I have enjoyed and learned so many aspects by watching your info, along with MFJJ and Tims stuff. Good stuff, thanks My learning intake for me in this first year of compounds so far has been- Learn your equipment and provide a good stability/platform. LC ultimate bow press and drawboard, OMP wide vise , LC saw with my own add ons for an ultimate bench arrow tool. (spine and broadhead testing/adjusting). LC fletching, arizona fletching jigs. OMP serving jigs with the LC reserve pro. Homemade pneumatic string stretcher. BAP wide jig for the strings. and of course the LC poundage gauge (an important tool) the average gram scale to measure weights, kind of stuff. This addiction will cost you more than a dollar. I appreciate everyones' input, and thank you for yours.
Excellent video guys! Going to save this and take some notes. I am hoping to have an area setup to work on my bow, build some arrows and tinker on other projects by early spring, so this video will help tremendously. Thank you for taking the time and putting this out.
Good job breaking it down. Wish you would have spent more time on the draw board. Also, Chris Bee did a review on a saw that was affordable. I know y’all are friends so you can check that out.
Just getting set up in Hawaii. Super limited with shops. Setting up my garage to work on and fix anything for the bow. Placed first order from spokane valley today.
Hey guys , always great content . Someone is really good with videography. Interesting introductions and cut outs . So, I have a question . Do any of you men have an opinion on Spinning Inserts when it is in operation with fixed blade broad heads ?
That's facts Dan. Again appreciate it. I am planning on putting mine together this year and go into a side gig for exactly the reason the closest shop is 60 miles away.
press, vise, drawboard, hamskea level and D-loop/serving are pretty much all you need. most people have cheap handtools around already, "d-loop pliers" dont do anything you cant do with needle nose lol

Yes the LCA arrow saw is expensive. But like any other tool you do get what you pay for. It is more than a saw but an arrow build station. You actually get three tools in one. Running the full size Decut saw with the foot pedal. No complaints so far. Solid and well built. Also has micro adjustments for length.
Decut Archery makes a great arrow saw for $209. I think you would find it to be very reliable.
Weston makes a good one for 180ish as well works great.
yes, i am all so running the decut saw. Built well, small, and compact for easy storage..
Decut for the win… grab an extra couple blades they’re brittle and if your wife moves it they will snap.
Deceit arrow saw is awesome

A miter saw with a cut off wheel and make a little wood cradle for the arrow as a zero clearance. Phenomenal cuts. How I build all my arrows.

Get a Decut they cut pretty nice and square. Haven’t had any issues been using it for 5 years now!
What i am most interested is the stand u have you OMP vise set up on. Is that something Jake built or did u buy it from somewhere?

Carbon express arrow saw is only 200 but you can get them all day for 150 it’s actually really good
Yes the LCA arrow saw is expensive. But like any other tool you do get what you pay for. It is more than a saw but an arrow build station. You actually get three tools in one. Yo Dan, you need some zip ties or tie wire on those peg board hooks ! Nice shop
Is tying in nock sets a must? Shop I went to only put on dloop but no nock sets. Worried that dloop is going to tighten on my nock over time

Weston arrow saw works very well. Not too expensive. I think around $200.
