Putting C-Notch into S-10 Frame On 1948 Chevy Truck

  • In this video I will continue working on a 1948 Chevy truck restoration. Mainly I will focus on a Frame. This will be a step-by-step tutorial on how to put a C-notch into the frame (specifically a mini C-notch) in order to be able to get the truck much lower to the ground. I will go over the tools being used for this procedure. This is a first for me so as usual, I learn as I go. I really hope this would help folks out there that will attempt to install a C-notch into their vehicle.

You have great taste in trucks! The Chevrolet 3100 body style trucks are my favorite. My brother has a 1954 that he swapped the straight 6 and 3 speed out for a 350 with a 4 speed.

Thanks Rob, this is definitely one of the best looking classic trucks. Eventually this truck will be getting a 5.3 L motor...

Thank you Owen, I am far from professional welder, just watched some UA-cam videos on welding and spent a few hours practicing, basically just have to figure out the right pace and consistency as you weld along. I'm sure if you log a few hours with a welder you could probably put down better looking bead than me :-) Merry Christmas!!

Thank you Jeremy... I am no professional welder, but I bet you anything that if you practiced for a couple of hours then you can lay down some real nice looking welds yourself... I recently was teaching my 17-year-old how to weld, I gave him some pointers and after about 30 minutes he was doing real well, once your welder is set up with the right voltage and wire speed, all you really need to figure out is the nice even pace and you have to stay consistent. Pace and consistency comes with practice. There isn't really a whole lot more to it :)

I'd been wondering why you hadn't uploaded a video and what a terrible thing to happen. How fortunate that it was only you that got hit by the maniac. How much worse it would have been if you all got hit. So glad to see you recovered. Hopefully, your injuries weren't too severe.
Good to see you back working on the truck again, this is going to be interesting. I've been thinking of getting a plasma cutter, but I don't think I do enough work to justify the expense, but it would be handy to have one for the odd occasion when it would be used. Have you thought of putting a welding filter in front of your camera when you are welding/cutting? That way we can see the process, rather than the bright flashes. It might extend the life of your camera also, as I heard that bright light from welding isn't good for the camera. Looking forward to more videos now that you are back from that terrible event. Merry Christmas and all the best for a great New Year from Queensland Australia.

Yes, the yoke is off centered. I have a few videos to push out first and then I will be posting a video where I will be shortening the longer axle tube to center the pumpkin in the axle. After that a 4 link suspension will go in that will hold the axle in place along with a watts link
