There was literally never a better timed video than this one. I am doing an axle flip, drop beams, and full brake system on my F100 right now. I mean like, I started it tonight. I pulled the rear end out of it 15 minutes before I sat down and watched this video.

Great job! I threw away the cone greaser a long time ago. There is a cup, set bearing in and press. Waay less mess.packed a lot of bearings in my past. Note, wash inside of rotor before intalling bearings/seals. I have come across a couple that had casting sand remains in them. Brake cleaner and a brush. Compressed air.
Perfect time to refresh the brakes!

Kinda brought a tear to my eye. I just sold my red, 85 Gmc short-bed PU. My wheels were different and mine had AC (I live in Florida and its necessary.) I love to see young ladies work on their own vehicles. Keep it up, Brenda.

Way back in the 70's we used to heat up the grease on the kitchen (gas) cooker for lubing m/c chains and bearings by simply finding suitable sized trays/cut up tin cans, also still use that trick to melt old boot polish NB always have a metal cover to smother if vapor lights 😎

Nice! I love those old short wides! I had an 81 Chevy short wide. I bought it from a guy I worked for. It was pretty rough. I got it for 1200$. I just used it for a work truck. I loved how low the bed was. It was so easy to load stuff. It had drop shop spindles. Flipped rear end. No C notch. So it would bang the frame. If you loaded it too much. I had it for 11 years. The sold it for 1500$. I miss that truck. Now they are crazy expensive.

miss those shop parties. Been years since we did them. Great video. I have a 78 C10 and every project takes wayyyy longer than expected. I had a 78 Big 10 and 80 Big 10s brand new, hard to believe they are going on 45 years old. Damn, makes me feel old. stumbled on your page a while back, really enjoy the old school metal work. Great job, nice Lady. I've owned several of these types, got one right now, and will seriously consider a lowering job. That's the best I've seen one done to retain travel and ride comfort. That was a well planned, well coordinated job, I've never seen it done better. Thanks!
This would make a great monthly feature on the channel. Get a group together and knock out some updates or fixes to someone's car. Even better if they learn something in the process.

NICE! Gotta love a Squarebody! I had two of them and miss 'em both. First one got stolen and destroyed, the second one I had to sell for tools. Hats off to Brenda for jumping right in there with the boys to get it done! Congrats!!! I dig the Detroit Steel wheels and the stance. You should be very proud of yourself Brenda, and the Truck. I think we all know too well that feeling when a one day job turns into three! It’s always worth taking the time to do it properly though and finally get that thing off the jack stands and see how tough it looks sitting nice and low. Hope Brenda is enjoying her ride.
Watching you and your friends work on projects is always cool. I don't have a group of friends to pull together with like that, it's really cool. Dont get me wrong, I have a local buddy, but most of my lifelong friends who would come together to help each other live states away.

Drop kits are fun I did Belltech kit on my square GMC !
I agree with Frank's Garage - it's a good idea to clean rotors prior to assembly. FYI - it's easier to put grease in to the hub from the back side & it does not cause any problems installing the rear bearing or the grease seal. However, I disagree with Karl's thought that you can not have too much grease.
Acturally you can, I had a boat axle that I replaced a few years back & the hub was packed full because most of the RV/boat trailer axles use grease zerks to keep the bearings greased. But with the hub full of grease they may overheat. My customer was a trucker & used an infrared heat sensing gun to check his hub/tires & he came back claiming the new axle was overheating. We took all the grease out of the hub except for a thin film to revent rust & of course fully packed bearings, it fixed the overheating problem.
Worst idea the axle manufactures ever came up with. Most users over grease using the zerks, which, in turn blows the rear seal & spews grease all over the brake pads/shoes. You are better off to do a normal bearing pack periodically - Dexter Manufacturing recommends every 12K miles & it gives you the added opportunity to inspect brakes & bearing while you are doing the bearing pack.
May thanks to Karl for his channel. I have learned tons about sheet metal repairs.
Yeah the grease Zürics are no good because people pack some rightful and that creates friction but if you just put in Greece in my hand I do believe you can’t have too much
It wasn't hard to tell that was Brenda's pride n joy.
Getting in there making sure all the exposed metal was protected during the axle flip. Fair play to that woman.
Next video on that truck will be you making repair sections for the front fenders???

Nice truck little problems always pop up . Cool lady doesn’t mind getting into the work. Killer overalls . 4/6 drop looks cool.
Now you'll need to add the rear shock relocation brackets and then have her install the belltech rear sway bar. Since she is lowered she will need to swing by a local hardware store to purchase (2) 4 inch Grade8 bolts to replace the sway bars factory 8 inch bolts.
So funny to see you pack bearings that way, my dad had a fleet of 21 school buses and I can remember packing wheel bearings on school buses that same way, back in 1967 when I was about 9 years old. I guess the old way is really the best way. Great video love the show keep up the good content

After 1979 most 1/2 ton squares were 1in rotor so just order parts for a 1977 and older with 1.25 in rotor

Looked like a lot of fun ! I thought you'd have made brackets and put disks in the rear end ! I remember a bunch of us getting together a weekend a month building all kinds of fun stuff. It's times like that that bonds groups of people together and helping one another ! It just doesn't get much better than that !

Shop nights are a great get togethers with Mates.
All you needed was a BBQ and or a smoker with some ribs and Beers and it would have been fully Awesome.

I flipped my '78 in the back with no c-notch...I just couldnt do it..i felt like i was would be giving it a circumcision or something..if you take off the metal bump stop brackets, and put the little mushroom tip stop on it, it still has like an inch of travel

Please, oh please. Make those wheels go away, and get a set of stock rally wheels those giant saucers are supposed to be imitating.
Also, a little late, but you can do the axle flip without breaking open the brake lines. I did literally 100 or more more squares that way back in the 80's... remove wheels and driveshaft, slide rear laterally to one side until you can lift the drum end inboard of the spring, then slide rearend the other way to do the other side. Voila.
That’s how we installed it as well but rolled it out the back first so I had to do the line
2 lifts in the shop and you're still working on the floor, isn't that always the way?
