I hear a future little Marvel Champions player (baby) in the background. By the time he gets of age, we will finally get Nightcrawler as a playable hero.
Lol yep, he just doesn’t know it yet 😂 Oh man I hope it doesn’t take that long!! He’s got a good 10 years before he could play this game so let’s hope Kurt shows up before then. Daredevil however, is a different story. I think he’ll be my boy’s 16 year old birthday present 😅
2 videos in one day!! Nice to see your initial impression. Your best point was right at 1:56. Haha. Love to hear it. But in reality, she seems really neat. I feel like many of the new heroes and cards seem “overpowered”, which I think is actually great design and is going to be particularly cool if they are not. I love when a game makes a player feel broken and super powerful yet somehow stays balanced and I hope that’s the case with all of these. X-23 feels a little like Vision + Quicksilver + Wolverine, which is an interesting combo. It looks like some of the new heroes are focusing a little more on the signature Allies perhaps? Which is neat because I think for many heroes they are rarely talked about or used in some cases. Being a huge leadership and ally fan, I think that’s why the X wave has been so solid thus far, it all sort of seems more team oriented which is cool thematically. Good overview!
Lol definitely not something I planned but I couldn’t not talk about X-23 as fast as possible! Haha yeah he’s the real star! I get all of my best material from his insights 🥰😂 I was talking to someone recently about power creep, and my take on it was I think if anything the early stuff was generally underpowered (with some exceptions certainly) and I think now what we’re seeing is the heroes being at the power level they probably always should have been. So like you say, and I agree, they feel overpowered, but I suspect that that’s where they actually want them to be. And I agree that it’s super fun to feel so powerful. That’s the best thing about this game compared to LotR, and especially Arkham. Sometimes it feels like such a struggle to get anything done in those games. And here it’s just breezy effortlessness to accomplish a lot on your turn. Which is just so fun We’re so similar! I LOVE this newer focus on allies, and even more so with what Laura is doing here. She’s super high in my anticipated rating right now and I can’t wait to do all the Honey Badger stuff 😁
You mentioned the fact that Honey Badger is an X-Men but didn't really delve too deeply past that so I want to bring it up here: you can put Training upgrades on her and then each Game Time is essentially also readying X-23. With Combat Specialist and her hero kit, she can get to 6 ATK and since each aspect has a Training upgrade and Game Time is a basic, she's pretty flexible in how to build her deck. Another thing that's really interesting is she gets a "free" DEF but only if she takes damage. So she wants to do a kind of "imperfect defense" build where you use her basic DEF but also want to take damage. Defiance and Preemptive Strike could be good when you know the villain has higher ATK than your DEF but you also don't want to take massive damage. Another option would be to Pinned Down a 3 ATK minion and just keep it alive to feed her ready. Specialized Training is definitely an auto-include for 99% of my decks. I don't play aggro decks and there's not really a reason to not get stat boost at some point. And it even only cost 1 so it's not a huge opportunity cost there. I also like that you don't have to pick your specialization until you defeat the PSS so you can get different ones depending on what you need for the current situation/encounter without changing your deck. The only downside I can see is you can only have 1 PSS out in 1P/2P games at a time so if you're focusing on collecting PSS, this one has higher starting threat than most of the others but that's nothing compared to the reward!
Yeah I’m really kicking myself for not thinking of Game Time on the spot. I thought of it shortly after and man is that gonna be incredible. That’s the downside of doing these as first impressions. I always miss at least one obvious things as I’m excitedly taking in so much new information at once lol. Thank you so much for making so many great points! Specialized Training is so bonkers to me, and I agree that it’s almost always an auto include now. Which is kind of a knock against it I suppose, but I don’t care about that lol. It’s always going to be fun to complete!
Really wanted her hero identity to be Wolverine! They even use the costume for Keep Them Busy lol. Hero and aspect cards all look great, thanks for throwing up this video Josh.
Yessir, she has been going by Wolverine since late 2015. Laura and Logan share the title, exactly like Peter and Miles share Spider-Man. The same run that started that is also where Honey Badger was introduced.
I kinda want to try a risky build with her around “Now I’m Mad,” where you would try to hover around 5-6 health, thwart for the full 2, then use the Claws to take damage and ready, and attack with +3 or more. I’m not sure if it could be consistent, but I like the idea of trying to use health as a risky resource.
That sounds awesome! That’s so cool that you can jump in and out of your thwart stat as long as you have ways to heal back up (which she does). I love the idea of using health as a resource, though as you say it’s likely to be inconsistent just because you’re always leaving yourself vulnerable to an untimely Assault. Or Gang Up. Or villains specific extra activation. Etc. lol Run enough chump blockers and it just might work!
@@GetUpandGame Great point! That just gave me the idea of using Honey Badger as an emergency blocker. She will obviously want to keep her around, but the fact that she has ways to recur her means that she could jump in to save her sister in a pinch. Seems thematic. Might be good to keep someone like Blade around for a similar purpose.
What’s everyone’s top 3 X-Men/Force heroes for true solo play? Is Mutant Genesis a great route?! 2 heroes, multiple villains and the ability to use those included aspect and basic cards with other X-Men. Top 3 true solo hero packs??? Go!
For me my top 3 heroes of the last 2 waves for solo play (which is all I do anyways) would be 1. X-23 2. Psylocke and 3. Shadowcat. All 3 are very capable of handling things by themselves and are also incredibly fun to play! I can’t speak to the packs themselves too much as I don’t play the precons, but I don’t think much of many of the aggression cards that came with X-23. Psylocke however brought some amazing new Justice cards And Shadowcat being in Mutant Genesis, well I do think that’s a great box to get if you’re wanting to get into the X-men. It comes with a lot of the staples like Professor X and Utopia, though many of the biggest cards for X-men do get reprinted again with the hero packs My line for the mutants has been, you can pick and chose the x force heroes you want (though I think Next Evolution is the best box out there), but if you want X-men you should get them all. They all have cards that support each other so they’re best if you have all of them.
She looks amazing. I love hero ready builds, and X-23 seems like such a creative way to approach that. And I love that she has a solid thwart stat as well, to let her control threat in solo, without the need to play Justice.
Couldn’t agree more! She’s doing so much that I enjoy between the ally focus and all the readying. This cycle looks bonkers and I have this sneaking suspicion they’ve saved the best for last……
Definitely want to keep Honey Badger alive, because she looks like she'll be the key to making X-23 go with less limited readies on HB. Good thing Honey Badger is X-men traited so you can put X-men training upgrades to bump up her health. This almost feels like how Vivian is so powerful in Vision's pack that I almost want to call it the Vivian Hero Pack. The Honey Badger Hero Pack ;) It's nice that Pain Tolerance works in Alter-Ego and Hero form. Boom Boom looks great. I wasn't completely sold on the player side schemes from a true solo play perspective since they seem to benefit way better in multiplayer, but the specialized training looks way more worthwhile in solo compared to the others.
Honey Badger hero pack 😂 That’s the one concern I suppose, how sad will you be if it takes awhile to get her on the table, and what if you draw her in a turn where you just have to do something else? Makes me thing of Drax and Ant-man, quicksilver maybe. You want those key cards so badly that it’s a downer if they take a minute. Thankfully she has that Captain America feel where she can easily thwart or attack for 4 guaranteed without any other cards so she can hold down the fort while you wait for Gabby to show up. Plus there’s the support to summon her of course I view everything through a solo lens but that makes sense that the PSS will be better for multiplayer. I’m still pretty excited for them, but that’s one that the proof is in the playing and we’ll need to get them into decks before we can truly know their power level. But yes, this new basic one is an auto include from now on I think. Outside of rush I just don’t know why you wouldn’t!
@@GetUpandGame Good comparison to Drax, Ant-man, and Quicksilver needing their key upgrades to sing. Yes, X-23 does have a card that helps fetch HB which is a step up from the rest of those other heroes who can't fetch. I'm not totally down on PSS's either, because you can at least use them to thin your deck by playing them down to make your deck more efficient.
This wave looks like it's going to be really interesting. I love X-force in the comics so I love how much new and exciting stuff we're getting with them.
It really does. All the heroes look great, and now between the player side schemes and the new Linked mechanism there’s a lot of fresh game ideas as well. So hyped!!
@@mortagon1451 it’s so cool, and compl out of left field. And they could do literally anything with it. Maybe a side scheme that gets removed if you do a huge chunk of damage, and then everyone gets a cool card as a reward. There’s so much design space here 😀
@@Rambrus0 Hall of Heroes under Hulk specifically says that rulings on Valid Target and Changing Game state does not apply to character powers. Just like if your ATK was reduced to 0, you would still be allowed to exhaust and attack to clear a Stun status.

Youre right - attack focused without copying wolverine. Super interesting character! New mechanics/interactions with her cards are super interesting! Its a lot of pieces to put together to get her engine rolling, but shes going to be fun to see in action!

Hulk's THW is 0, not -, thus The Direct Approach is viable, as are any Side Schemes with the Assault keyword, for Hulk to exhaust and use his ATK to clear threat
Yeah! It’s amazing how they take such similar heroes and make them feel unique and different. She’s exactly Wolverine lol, but she’s still doing her own thing. Very cool 😀
