I really like Domino. As a request for future videos, can you pick a background other than bright white for these kinds of videos. If it was more zoomed on the cards, or the sides were cut and a black or gray was used; then it'd be much easier to look at.

Sorry about that! I had to make this video as fast as I could so I was literally just sharing my screen on the Hall of Heroes website. Usually I try for a much nicer presentation with a slide show and nicer backgrounds.

Really good video! I agree it's WAY easier to make the game harder than it is to make it easier, so I really appreciate the ease of NeXt Evolution. Core + NextEv gives me an idea 😉, especially with what you said about She-Hulk (she'll want Juggernaut to remain Stalwart)! I'm going to do some She-Hulk testing with only cards from core and NextEv. I also proxied Taunt as soon as it was announced (Spider-Man) and got laughed at on Facebook LOL. Good stuff!

Totally agree on NXE = best product, Cable = my two-hander, NXE = first buy, then X-Men or Red Skull.
Domino, no! I loved her on first release, but admittedly have cooled a bit I think exactly because of what you’re saying with the total control - it’s not just that NXE is easy, she’s so, so powerful, it can be too much of a walk in the park. 😂 But I’m confident I’ll happily come back to her in a bit with new ideas and ways to limit myself with deckbuilding or put up interesting challenges.

Exactly! This is a great box to try out expert if you don’t normally play that way. A lot of villains are already hard enough that you don’t need to bother but here it’s worth exploring 👍

Congrats on 3K subscribers! That's quite a milestone! I just got Next Evolution last week, and I've been playing the villains standalone so far (Juggernaut was instantly first choice). I think the only knock I have on Mr. Sinister so far is that he's a bit of a pain to setup much like the Hood, but not as bad as the Hood. Cable might have the most potent pre-con for solo as well. I know he greatly benefits the multiplayer arena, but I've been slapping villains down with ease with his precon before even going through his deck. He really doesn't feel that slow compare to a lot of other heroes that need the board in full display. You can get a lot of mileage out of Graymalkin and Plasma Rifle being the only two cards on the board (Psimitar is good too). I haven't had any issue so far getting him to 3/3/3 within two turns. Domino has been fun as well working her luck ability on the top deck. I find her smoother to play mentally then trying to time Shadowcat's forms. She seems slower to get going the Cable and requires more on the board to really shine.

I agree the setup with Sinister is a bit of a hassle. I’d be tempted to keep the Superpower mods just with his cards if they weren’t so darn fun to use with other villains!
🚨 DOMINO UPDATE 🚨 I just completed another Next Ev campaign (that’s 4!) with Domino and I will say I definitely enjoyed it! I really just needed to play her a little more.
That being said there were still a few times here and there where it felt like I described in the video, but overall I would say my opinion of her is much higher now. Getting out both Pistols and Sharpshooter is unbelievably ridiculous lol, and the turns where you can use Jackpot multiple times to play expensive cards feels really fun.
So, sorry Domino fans! I jumped the gun a little bit and should’ve played her just a bit more before reviewing her. So let’s call what I said in the video my “first impressions”, and this down here the review.
She still doesn’t quite reach the heights for me that I thought she would, but definitely would land in the top half of my rankings somewhere among heroes I enjoy 🙂
I still haven't payed nothing from Next Evolution onwards. (Let's just say I'm deciding if this is going to be my last MC cycle... Cause somewhere/someday... I should be able to stop, right? RIGHT? Haha.
For now, I just know that I'd LOVE to have Apocalypse, the 4 Apocalypse Riders, (multiple villain scenario'), Mystique (infiltration mechanics full implemented), AND, as heroes, Beast, Nightcrawler, Iceman, Jubilee, Emma Frost and Professor-X (guess impossible but hey... dreaming is free!). All of these in order to, finally, quit myself from this beautiful addiction!

I think you’re very likely to get most of what you want to see next wave! I strongly suspect the Horseman scenario will be a multivillain fight a la Wrecking Crew or maybe like Sinister six as you suggest. Mystique also feels like a requirement and I’m hoping for Dark Beast
And most of those heroes sound very likely to me, except maybe Charles. I’d love to see him but there are just so many good mutants left it’s hard to say for sure. I’m hoping we get an announcement relatively soon and we’ll start to get a picture of what’s to come!

I haven’t worked out Psylocke yet. I don’t do well with heroes that need finesse
Yeah it’s weird with Ironheart. I love her too, but I haven’t been in the mood to play her for a long time so I felt like she needed to drop some. My feelings overall haven’t changed, I still think she’s great! But there are just so many great hero’s in this game that I think for me she’s dropped back just a little into the pack of very good hero’s, but maybe not in my top 5 anymore. Who knows , maybe I’ll play her again soon and she’ll jump right back up there lol
@@ragnotgreymane Psylocke can be tricky for sure, but you can simplify her as well. If you just have 1 of each blade then her events basically do what you want them to do most of the time and she’ll have 2/2 stats which are average. I think she gives you a lot of freedom in how you play her which is just another thing that makes her so awesome!

I agree, Next Evolution is the best big box to date. It’s just straight up FUN. The difficulty is perfect. I play standard, I like a challenge but mainly I want to have fun and this box nails it. Haven’t played the final scenario yet but the first 4 are probably some of my favorites to date. Especially 2-4. I almost never play campaign but after hearing your thoughts, I may just try it!

Oh man PLEASE try the campaign! I never play them either but I had heard from people who got the box early that it was great and so I was curious enough to give it a shot. I’m so glad I did! Very easy to track but just adds so much more fun!

@@GetUpandGame I played her only in Justice and Leadership so far and she looks best to me in Justice as she has all the damage in her kit. I've not tried anything crazy, just the auto include cards, like Digging Deep, Sharpshooter, White Tiger, etc.

Good video for sure. I agree with your thoughts on difficulty (although I think you're overestimating how hard "on the run" is, quite frankly). NeXt Evolution felt, on the whole, easier than the other campaigns we've got lately, but that's a good thing. Having a nice variety in terms of difficulty is good. If people want to have a harder time with scenarios, the solution is simple: use a harder modular set.
The rest of the video is very solid, but there's one thing I want to comment on, because I thought it was amusing to see a similar reaction to mine. Recently I've been trying to play more heroes that I rarely play, and Captain Marvel was one of them. I build a leadership deck for her based on drawing cards, and while it was a fun gimmick, in the end my feeling was "ok, I've drawn 15 cards this turn, but I'm not excited to play any of this. My allies are doing all the work for me, while I patiently wait to buff the energy channels". She felt really bland in a way that no other hero I've played lately has. She's very strong, but nothing she did felt exciting. I was a bit surprised considering how highly she's rated by the community.

Haha yeah I don’t know why On The Run is giving me so much trouble lol. In the campaign on standard I’ve had no trouble with it, but non campaign expert has been a real pain 😣
@@GetUpandGame the way you play and the way I play are quite different for what I've seen, so there's probably some of that, but I found that having good minion clearing ability was necessary for on the run. Lots of tough minions are constantly coming into play, so I felt that that was the main threat of the scenario. The random villain is also a big factor (Greycrow as the main villain must suck, but thankfully I haven't got that one yet), so maybe other tries will be more successful.
@@javgoro Greycrow is indeed horrendous. Yeah, it might be that I was playing Angel and I was definitely struggling with all the tough. If I tried it with someone I was more familiar with I might have more success. It’s fun though and I enjoyed banging my head against it lol
I have had similar experience with “on the run.” It’s a lot harder (especially on expert) than I felt the community was giving this one credit for.
Now I loved the Domino gimmick. Making your own luck was a lot of fun. Cable is excellent. I did solo run through the campaign on leadership focusing on voltron Fantomex with EVA on turn 1 with call for backup.

That sounds awesome! I do really like the look of Fantomex but haven’t messed around with him too much. That might just be the next deck I play! (As I type this in the hospital room waiting for the delivery time. So it might be awhile 😆)

Great video, many thanks. We always play Hulk with the (common) hand size 6+5 and enjoy it a lot. Suddenly, opportunities for big hits open up more often without the need to think much. Just having fun and smiling. You may give that a try, too.

I took Colossus Aggression through NeXt Evolution expert, alongside Domino and Cable. I don't think I took damage on him until I got to Mister Sinister. He is so crazy powerful, and Player Side Schemes just make that even better.

I had a similar experience with both Domino and Psylocke. Domino was the one I was looking forward to the most, and though I do still like her a lot, I don't know if she will make my top 10 or not. Psylocke though is my favorite X force so far and she has quickly risen to my top 5 heroes. I've been having so much fun building a ton of decks with her, and only in aggression and justice so far! There's so many interesting things you can do with her
Oh you gotta try her in protection! The Karma shenanigans are just too fun 😆
@GetUpandGame oh yeah, for sure. Also want to try her with that psionic card that redirects an attack. And I've got a couple leadership decks ready to test out too. I'm honestly just having way too much fun with her in justice 2 handed to switch rn 😅
Heck, repurpose is even a skill, so she could probably do some pretty nuts stuff around that too. Between her psionic and her skill synergies, she certainly has one of the widest range of builds of all the heroes

yeah, i am one of the dirty casuals that just wants a relaxing, not-especially-challenging marvel champions experience
i legit don't understand the players who think this is apparently invalid. like, it is much easier for a player that wants a hard as nails game to just substitute-in a really hard modular set, use the Expert or Standard II encounter cards, play on Heroic where the villain gets extra encounter card plays, etc etc etc than it is for me to find a good way of making a villain whose baseline is very hard to somehow make that easier. modulars like Hope and Longshot help, but are nowhere near as granular a knob as the escalating make-this-harder options

I totally agree! More options to make it easier please! Then we can do even more mixing and matching to calibrate the difficulty right where we want it 👍👍
Got the box for christmas and finally finished it today. I really enojyed everything in this except possibly Strife who I thought was a bit too easy for a fifth villain. His first phase was really intense and almost threat me out but second phase after you deal with the side scheme he just sort of deflates. I dunno maybe he will be harder with heroes other than Cable and Domino.

You’re right, Stryfe is surprisingly easy for a 5th scenario. He certainly has very interesting mechanics and it’s fun to draw those extra cards on the last part but yeah, weirdly easy
If its too easy there are certain mod sets to include here , that would make stryfe standard be up there if venom goblins and magnetoes.
Agreed! He wants to play with minions and there are definitely harder minion sets than Mutant Insurrection and Extreme Measures out there so that would greatly kick him up several notches

No, or at least not anytime soon. Maaaaybe when the game has run its course, if they decide to do some rereleases like with LotR. But as it stands now I wouldn’t expect to see one within the next few years
Another note for a buyer’s guide:
- With the X-Men/X-Force, I feel like a lot of “staples” will be reintroduced in new heroes’ precons. Maybe save the money on buying older heroes that may not interest you but have the “good cards” and hold out that a future hero might have a reprint!
That’s a great point! There are definitely some excellent cards that have yet to be reprinted that count still show up in the last mutant wave 👍
Hating on Captain Marvel?! UNSUBSCRIBED!!! 🤣🤣🤣 JK. She’s still one of my favorites (in MC, in the MCU she’s pretty much 🤢🤮). I still haven’t played MC or LotR since last time, whenever that was. RL kind of sucks lately. But maybe hopefully I’ll get to play the board game Oathsworn with a friend on Monday, so that’s something 😁 Great video as always. This expansion could have been so good, but the mandatory Hope Summers ally in 3/5 scenarios brings this down A LOT for me.
Honestly, I haven’t replayed any of the scenarios from this set. Hope just makes them so awful.
I’m not sure whose idea it was to make a mandatory ally for so many scenarios (especially since the Magneto ally in the previous box wasn’t well received), but I hope they never do it again.
Fingers crossed the next set has some decent scenarios.

@@GetUpandGame A few things. I don't like any mandatory allies or helpful things in general (like the Milano). I feel they water down the deck building experience.
I'm ok with the odd scenario if the helpful item is thematic. But 3 out of 5 scenarios with the same mandatory ally is a bit much.
My other problem with her is that she's incredibly imbalanced.She's a 1/1/1 with Ms. Marvel, but can be much higher with other heroes.
I will say that Juggernaut works fine without her. Trample is a little less scary, but you don't have Hope's added abilities, so it balances out fine.

I don’t own this box, but she seems even stronger than Magneto ally is from MG. she seems better served to make things easier if you need a slight mod in your favor.
@@TheVlad1616 she is potentially stronger depending on your hero. This was probably designed at the same time as Mutant Genesis and the feedback that some didn’t like having Magneto just wasn’t out there yet. But similar to how some people choose not to use Mags in Master Mold it’s entirely possible to play these scenarios the same way
Yeah, Cpt. Marvel was always meh for me. But I still love Spiderman, Black Panther and Iron Man from core set even now with crazy pool of heroes.

I honestly find domino is overrated powerwise. You get 1 free stack, to garentee one of her carda or abilities to go off but the rest of your turn is kinda lucked base.
That’s true. For me I find her power really comes from her pistols. If you can get them out early you can do a ton of damage, and more importantly you’re discarding a lot of cards which leads to free resources from Digging Deep and maybe even a free ally. And since so many of her cards have the wild resource even if you can’t stack more than one they frequently come up anyways!
I like listening to your opinions, but question - why didn't you just cut this video into its seperate segments as their own videos? Is it not just as simple as taking this video and just stop/starting it where you have the breaks? It would be much more digestable for the viewer and more likely to see something like 'deck testing villians' when searching youtube (as opposed to this videos title) and it would also get more eyes on your content!
Even if the video would only end up being 5mins in length on any one topic, that's fine as again its much more digestable.
Thank! And thanks for the feedback! I definitely considered it breaking it up. But in the end I didn’t for a couple reasons:
1. I was just in a massive hurry. I wasn’t planning on making this video, as I’m taking a break while preparing for (and now having) a baby. But having hit 3k I knew I wanted to do something. So when I found myself with an unplanned and very suddenly available window of time to record I just jumped on it with 0 preparation. I got up early and my boy slept in and it just worked out to turn on the camera and record.
And then I took every opportunity throughout the day to edit it because I wanted it to come out before the baby was born so I could just have it out there and not worry about doing anything else with it. Editing it into smaller chunks would’ve taken more time, as would have setting each section up as it’s own video. From a time standpoint it’s simply much much easier to release 1 video than it is 7.
2. I wanted it to feel like a big deal. 3k subscribers deserved a big video so I thought just having one big celebration with a bunch of fun topics would be an appropriate way to do it.
And I consume a lot of UA-cam myself these days so I know it’s really easy to jump back into a video you’ve started watching since they save your place now. So while it’s definitely more convenient to have multiple small videos, I decided it wasn’t unreasonably inconvenient to just have it all in one.
And while I would prefer to have some of these topics as searchable videos, I also didn’t feel that any of them individually were up to the standard of quality I would prefer to have as a standalone video. I usually have nicer presentations and more coherently organized thoughts, so the videos themselves would have been subpar compared to how I usually try to present things.
So in a perfect situation this would’ve been 7 videos all individually doing great on my channel, but under the present circumstances this was just the much easier way for me to do it ☺️
