      My one buddy is excited about her; he sees lots of potential. I am more skeptical like you, but I am interested in trying her in green to see how she plays. I definitely need to see rest of her cards before I can form a true opinion of her. More interested in Domino and Psylocke, so far.

    I agree that she looks like the weakest of the wave, but for me she looks like the most fun. I love characters with a lot of moving pieces, like Ghost Spider and Black Widow. She may end up pretty high on my overall list.

      I agree, the complexity of the moving pieces could make her very interesting.

    I see X-23 in the same way I see Ms. Marvel; someone who probably wants to flip every turn, no matter what. Ms. Marvel uses her Persona supports, flips up, uses her events and recurring them, take a big hit, and assuming she didn't play Wiggle Room, flips down, uses her activation to recover for 5, uses her Persona Supports, and repeat.
    On the villain phase, X-23 will probably want to defend, take 2 less damage but at least 1 to ready, then throw any extra health she can afford to spend on a big attack, ready, flip down, use her recovery for 6, and flip up again. I've taken note that outside of her claws, X-23's upgrades/supports have 'Response' or 'Action' or 'Resource', not 'Hero Response' or 'Hero Action' or 'Hero Resource', so they can be done in either form. Her equivalent of Kamela's persona supports that she can activate no matter what.
    I can very easily seeing you using Honey Badger's last health to ready before the flip down to recover, then use Weapon X as an alter-ego action to fish for an X-23 card to spend for Sisterhood (you can shuffle in Sisterly Bond to guarantee you have one) to replay Honey Badger with Danger Room for a free training card (based on whatever aspect you're rocking) as often as you can, outside of a "Voltron Honey Badger' build. You might be able to afford flipping down maybe every 3rd turn, but I can see her wanting to do so often.
    Very much looking forward to her! Especially as Ms. Marvel is one of my strongest/favoritest hero decks I have built (I have all heroes built at the same time), I can see X-23 being equally as enjoyable.

    10hp is higher than it looks because she can likely defend for free every round since her ability works once per phase. As long as the enemy attacks for more than 2, she should be able to defend and ready almost every turn.

    • @D20Woodworking
      @D20Woodworking  Рік тому

      But then she is taking 3 plus damage every round by readying up on her attack. Which is the main time you want to ready.

    • @marvinp90
      @marvinp90 Рік тому

      It’s per phase. Cause she could defend against a 3+ attack, ready in the villain phase, then in the hero phase attack, take damage then ready again. Once she is getting low she can attack at least once then flip and heal. So as long as you have some threat mitigation using her action for healing isn’t such a big deal

    • @D20Woodworking
      @D20Woodworking  Рік тому

      Yes… which I said. Taking 3 damage per round minimum. That’s not an easy task on solo. Also assuming you have no minions to deal with. Threat mitigation in place to allow you to flip (and not a stalwart or steady villain). This is not a easy juggle IMO

    • @marvinp90
      @marvinp90 Рік тому +1

      Ah sorry I got confused about the 3 damage. Thought you meant 3 from the attack just realized you meant 1 from attack and 2 her action. Plus I also look at her from a two handed game perspective which makes flip not as big a deal.

    • @D20Woodworking
      @D20Woodworking  Рік тому +1

    I think I'm going to love X-23 because I love aggression playstyles where your hero swings with massive attack or with weapon upgrades and cards that exhaust weapon upgrades for damage.

  • @urloony
    @urloony Рік тому +1

    With a kit of 0-2 cost cards, assuming the unseen cards are low cost as well, she could prove to be a fast-play burn deck. As you point out, regularly needing to flip, recover, get Honey Badger back out, is a little persnickety. It will be interesting to see what the other cards offer for threat mitigation which seems likely to be their focus.

    Really looking forward to having some crazy Aggression builds with her

    Cool video, interesting takes. Personally I don't think it's going to be necessary to set everything up to do well with X-23. In solo at least, with some aspects, I think by the time you've hunted for Honey Badger and tried to set her up in some way, a lot of other decks could have just won by focusing on a steady damage output. Because her "steady" damage output is sky-high.
    One of her other strengths which I think is a little overlooked is her ability to deal 4 damage or remove 4 threat immediately on turn 1, and every turn, before even looking at her card draw. Or 2 threat removal and 3 damage. Yes, she has to take 2 damage and keeping her alive is a factor, but the raw cost of healing or preventing 2 damage tends to be 1 resource. So that means she has a low-cost, guaranteed way to deal with most starting side schemes or minions in scenario. It's basically impossible for her to have a bad start and, later on, a bad turn. Although she is draw-dependent to get out the big combos, I think she will surprise people with her consistency at just dealing with whatever she needs to.
    But her potential fragility is a weakness. Taking 2-3 damage every turn going for damage, then dealing with the villain's attack, is going to be a tricky puzzle to navigate. You'll have to pace yourself at points and come with a plan. But I think it's pretty doable in most aspects to do that. I do hear people says he has a free defense but I don't think it's so simple and that you will want to stun or chump block against most villain attacks.
    Regarding finding Honey Badger, Justice and Leadership should be able to do so pretty quickly in solo thanks to One Way or Another/Chance Encounter, the Leadership Player Side Scheme (Call for Backup), and Call for Aid/Make the Call shenanigans (Call for Aid with 1-2 Avengers in your deck, fish her out of the discard pile with Make the Call - or, if you find one of your 1-2 Avengers first, now you're way closer to drawing her anyway). We'll see how that plays out in reality, but there's definitely potential to get her quicker than just luckily finding her early on. Aggression and Prot have it harder, though there is a world where you run some combination of Psylocke/Professor X/Karma and Cerebro to find Honey Badger (along with other X-Men allies to keep getting value from Cerebro). Weapon X is another basic card that helps you draw through to your signature cards too which could help a lot.
    But I think, of all the heroes this wave, she is the hardest for me to predict how good she'll be. She has so many moving numbers, so much aspect synergy. With that said, while I originally thought she might be the least powerful of all the powerful heroes we're getting this wave, I'm not so sure now. I think one or two of her best builds could really push the boundaries for some consistent and explosive wins alongside her consistent ability to deal at least 4 damage/4 threat removal from Turn 1.
    I'm not even convinced she will come with a threat removal card. Probably, but 2 THW and ways to ready like this already set her up for more threat removal than a significant amount of heroes get. I think, if she does, it might be reminiscent of Captain America's - +1 to her THW for a round or similar.

    That Frontline Specialist card likely needs to read "Your identity gets +4 HP," because it is the only card that recognizes as the response it's not in hero form restricted and says identity in that body of text and appears to contradict the tone to the above. Also, how does it work when switching from alter-ego to hero: do you regain the 4HP you lost when going from alter-ego to hero? What about heroes with two hero sides, like Angel and Archangel or tiny to giant Ant-Man and Wasp (and vice-versa), can you keep gaining additional 4HP max? They should fix it now before going to print.
    Also, I think everyone likes the Specialized Training links, but this sounds overly OP; surprised it passed its testing stages. Surprised if this is not an auto-include every time in multiplayer games amongst players.

    • @D20Woodworking
      @D20Woodworking  Рік тому +1

      I think a big “problem” of the game. And I want to test it out. Is we are getting to a point of the game where there is a lot of “auto includes” in decks now

    • @D20Woodworking
      @D20Woodworking  Рік тому +1

      Also it’s already printed. I would put money on it. And it would gain on top of the previous 4 health gained. It would just be your hero gets plus 4. But I think it’s probably an error. Sadly

    She look very interesting but it does depend on the cards we have yet to see. My initial impression is that your deck will build around an effective engine. Must have cards that must be played at, approximately, the right time. Outstanding results when the cards fall the right way, Valkyrie on steroids when nothing comes out when you need it. The RNG in MC keeps getting more pronounced.
    I’m more intrigued by the non-hero cards. Moving away, at least for now, from the endless parade of modular sets. Casually dropping the new keyword Assault for example. At the risk of beating an old horse, it’s one more way MC is trying to repair Hulk although I dare say they benefit many of the older heroes. Cards for deck builders are always welcome.
    I’ll be looking forward to getting her to the table but she won’t be my first choice. But also, let’s face it, everyone wants to see a two-handed Wolverine/X-23 game. Snikt Snikt indeed.
