Just drown every decent guitar sound in reverb and chorus and you are there. To complete the effect, cut off your drummer's arm, and ask him to sound like a £10 drum machine.
A 59 would have still held its price depending on condition as I owned one in 72 for £400. And a 59 tele I sold both to buy a car in 74 and a hayman 30 30 talk about regrets lol
@Andrew Harper he used his custom stratocaster with twin humbuckers and a single coil in the middle, for the guitar tone of that song i'd strongly reccomend a marshall amp with a fuzz pedal and a flanger/chorus like the EHX Electric Mistress which is both a flanger/chorus
@widowmaker5544 I roadied for Eric once. He played through my Marshall JMP 50 watt combo and told me the humbuckers are actually just covers and hide single coil pick ups. I got to play the Strat and it was worn completely smooth on the body and back of the neck. Eric is a phenomenal player.
Eric Johnson for £1500 Squier Classic Vibe 50's strat Marshall Origin 20 Dunlop Eric Johnson Fuzz Face Ibanez TS Mini Voodoo Lab Giggity (this is essential to shape the fuzz into the blended fuzz and Tube Driver sound) and Tone City Tape Machine

Gibson les paul, it can't be a supreme sadly cos they don't do them anymore Orange Thunderverb head and cab but this time don't scoop the mids or it'll be too muddy Mr Black Doomstick MXR Micro Amp and i think there was another pedal in there somewhere but i forgot which one
Brian Robertson and Scott Gorham both used Les Paul Deluxe's from '74 to '76 as that was the only LP's a gigging band could afford. After changing the mini pups to full size humbuckers on his Deluxe, (nowadays his main guitar) Brian got a LP Custom in '77 changing the plastic hardware to white so it looked like a Standard (go figure), a different, slightly warmer, sound as the Custom was all mahogany back then. Gorham loved the thicker sound and bought a '59 in Boston for £1200 in '78, everyone in the band thought he was mad at the time, I reckon it was a brilliant investment! As everyone knows, Gary Moore used his '59 Standard, Once owned by Peter Green of Fleetwood Mac, Now by Kirk Hammett of Metallica, in his stints in the band ;0)
it goes without saying J's signature Squier and a Marshall Origin dial in the EHX Electric Mistress with a slight warble for freak scene and get a big muff with the fuzz maxed out and a vox wah in front like hendrix to get the little fury things tone, and i think some sort of OD to go with the fuzz
It was so weird seeing old Matt/Bae vs. now Matt/Bae. It's like looking at the yearbook of your graduating class at the reunion, and thinking'...Damn where'd my life go wrong...' Love you guys keep it up!
Great to have you back lads! I swear. Take a Les Paul, plug it into a good Marshal, and you instantly have decent tone. It’s like they were made for each other.
@matt'n'bea : yay. Good to see you back. My old DSL 401 (predecessor to the dsl40) has the FX loop volume on the front. If you jump the FX loop plugs with a jack in the back, the knob works as a presence. I'm guessing it's a happy accident of the design, and I can't remember if it's because the FX loop is parallel or in series. Whichever it is, that's why the FX vol works like that.
I was in London for 2 days last week and made the trek out to Guildford to check out Andertons and Rabea and Matt were filming this (I think) episode. Was great seeing the store and seeing how they film. In case anyone was wondering: Rabea's hair is actually enormous - it's awesome. You should test out whether some setups which were made for one style are suitable for others, e.g. a thrash metal setup for blues. I wonder how much the style of playing or the music comes into play with the sound. Obviously the amp and pedal settings will have to be tweaked a lot.

@@Simeon_Harris Haha trust me, it has confused me more than once as well! The way he used it a lot of times makes it sound like a Phaser in the mix oddly enough - however, both Brian and Phil did use phasers every once in a while

What about the MXR Phase 90 Gorham used a lot? You can clearely her it on Showdown, Fight Or Fall, Spirit Slips Away, Still In Love With You... they aren't the most famous songs, but Gorham's phaser was an important touch on Thin Lizzy I think. I agree with using two Les Paul Standards, Scott began using a Deluxe because they were cheaper, but when the band grew up he swapped to an Standard 59 or something like that. Robo used a Custom almost all his time with Lizzy, but we also need Moore's sound (John Sykes also played Les Paul Custom, but he sounded so different), so another Les Paul Standard is right for Rebea's part
Scott played a 58 or 59 les paul from about 77 onwards He tells a funny story about the day he bought it on Me and My Guitar Lizzy were a very underrated band Never cracked the States either but I'm sure they had plenty of fun trying RIP Phil and Gary LEGENDS
Nothing better than getting a new Sounds Like notification (ok maybe a new blindfold challenge), so glad you're back. Please do Rory more vintage stuff like Rory, Deep Purple, Jethro Tull for instance!

It’s good to be back everyone - we’ve got some great episodes lined up for this current series - as always more suggestions welcome!!!
Sound Like Cream era Clapton

Man, I was listening to Disraeli Gears and was like: how do? I'm with this random guy

My favorite band from Ireland of all time!! R.I.P. Phil Lynott...!!
Sound like Def Leppard? Great to have you guys back!

Just drown every decent guitar sound in reverb and chorus and you are there. To complete the effect, cut off your drummer's arm, and ask him to sound like a £10 drum machine.
Good idea! Been looking for a good Phil Collen tone without splashing out on a Jackson pc1
Sound like The Cure.
Still think this would be a fun one which would require some good thought.
yep!
Chorus pedal and make up
Yes would love this!
Agreed. I'd love to hear something from Disintegration....Fascination Street maybe?
Need to do it but need the bass sound from disintegration as well (the song)... classic
Man, it sounds so good and yet it also feels like something's been torn away from it without the bass.
Sound like 70s KISS!! Please!!! You guys are awesome!
RORY GALLAGHER PLLEEEAAASSEEE
Yep, a Strat into a treble booster into an AC30
Just get a decent strat, a vox ac30 and an eq pedal. Leave the eq pedal flat except for the treble frequencies.
don't forget years of acidic sweat to strip the paint off your strat and leave it in the Dublin mountains for a while to cure ... and get the tone
Don't know how they haven't done this yet.

Great that the boys are back in town!!! Suggestions: Rival Sons, 1000mods, Clutch, Gary Clark Jr., Kirk Fletcher, Josh Smith
1000mods are bad ass!!!
As far as getting the tone.. Nailed it! absolutely bang on.
In the 70s, a 59 Les Paul was an old guitar. Not an expensive vintage guitar. Carry on.
A 59 would have still held its price depending on condition as I owned one in 72 for £400. And a 59 tele I sold both to buy a car in 74 and a hayman 30 30 talk about regrets lol
Absolute classic rock sounds, that was a real treat! More 70’s rock please. (Disappointed there was no Whiskey in the Jar lick though, how could you?)
Think that was Eric and a strat
also black rose and thunder and lighting

That's the best LP into a Marshall tone I heard in a long time. Especially dig Rabea's tone in this!

Sound like Tame Impala or Cage the Elephant would be great.

i hope they get a V this time even though it's not Look Like
Saki Miyu but randy did play a V granted it was a custom built model but that doesn’t matter.
I like the "without breaking" episode but the tones in this episode are so much better. Great job guys!
