Painting Concrete Steps - Easy Project

Once we completed the screen room on the cabin, I found many other small projects to take on. These ugly concrete steps being one of them. Since they had already been painted years ago by the previous owner I was forced to repaint them. It's an easy project but one whose results are well worth the effort. In this video I'll give you a few tips as you watch me crawl around on a concrete floor.

looks cool. i agree that in this particular instance, painting the stairs goes perfect with the door. it added color to a dull looking area

Thanks! If the stairs hadn't previously been painted I would have simply cleaned them but this color does enhance the look overall.

If you think your concrete steps will have a lot of foot traffic you could also use an oil based patio paint. So far these have held up fine with what I used but there are options with even more durability if necessary.

Thanks for watching! This has held up well for me since i painted it but if it's a real high traffic area you could also use what's called Patio Paint for concrete. Just don't go with the water based for that and be sure it's ventilated when you are applying it.

For me the paint has held up perfectly. If you're painting where you expect high traffic you can upgrade to an oil based patio floor paint which wears like iron. This concrete was also very porous which helped the paint bind. The color is Sherwin Williams #7582 Salute. Good luck with your project!

You didn't prime them first? Is the paint holding up after 5 months?

I didn't use Primer here. Of note, I was painting over a worn existing paint. Even without the primer coat this paint has held up fine. No signs of wear. I've used this paint on older concrete before and it binds like glue. Interestingly, the man at the Sherwin Williams store is the one who told me I wouldn't need primer with this. Maybe it's got a binding agent in it?
