- In this video we take you along to see the steps we take to paint a concrete porch. We show you how to prep in order for the concrete paint to last a long time.
If you'd like to buy this paint, Loxon XP, it's available at your local Sherwin Williams. If you'd like another alternative we have used and works great is a product made by kilz

Exactly the video I wanted to see tonight thank you
Glad I could help
Very simple & to the point. Thanks,!
No problem!
Ok. Thank you for this video. I've watched many other videos on how to paint concrete steps, and they made it look so complicated. Like you said, overthinking the whole process. (Some had 5 to 8 steps which made it all seem somewhat impossible for a DIY weekend project). Awesome info and tips. I'm ready to get started doing my front door steps. Thanks again.
Btw I do have a question. How long did the whole process take? The whole project time-wise from start to finish? Thanks.
Glad it helped you out. The whole thing took two of us about 4 hours. But we did 2 porches. We do stuff like this all the time. And there was Alot of scraping on these two porches. You can do it. It's simple just get started. You will figure out the rest. Good luck!
Thank You!! For the painting tips.
@@lilronnie3183 no problem, Glad to help!
Buy a cheap angle grinder with a cement grinding/smoothing wheel for it....80% faster
....Great video
can you use a cover paint that is colored to match the house
❤❤❤
Good video. I’m looking at doing the same for a patio slab. Is that a tinted color you used or just how it came from the store? Thanks!
Thanks! This product works great. The base color is all they sell off the counter at Sherwin Williams, you have to ask for the tint. We asked for a light grey. It's the most common or popular color picked for concrete porches. Good luck on your project. Let us know how it goes.
What kind of paint do you use for concrete though?
Loxon XL
How did you get back into ur house after lol jk
LoL it was a clients home. This paint dries pretty fast plus they had a way of getting in through the back. It would suck to be stuck outside for a couple hours though lol
...it was a drive-by paint job!
Good video, but the music is excessively loud-have to turn down volume when it comes on and turn up when you are speaking

Thanks for comment.
How long before you can walk on it, please?
My ten year old daughter did the same project last week.
Hello! Our stairs are in great shape but we want to paint them a different color. Is it okay to simply paint over them? They are concrete as well
Yes, Absolutely
The concrete steps at our house is a pretty rough concrete it's got small stones in it and stuff. The paint that is on there now came off when my girl was pressure washing it, now we have to paint it... so instead of pressure washing it again, your saying i should just scrape as good as i can and just paint over the paint thats there? The paint that is currently on it is really thick, the parts i scraped off the other day almost feels like slate stone. Can i just scrape it good, repair some cracks, and paint over it with self-priming paint?
I generally use porch and deck paint on concrete steps & sidewalks, no peeling or wearing off, this is about 3 yrs ago!
I might have to try that. Thanks.
Hard angle grinder wire wheel works good for that
Great tip I will have to try that sometime.
Just what I was looking for! Easy and relatable instructions to follow. Thank you.
Nice tutorial thanks for sharing your skills.👍
Thanks for the good info.
No problem. Hope it helped.
Thank you very much brother and be blessed.
Good video, music not so much!
Did you treat the concrete with muratic acid? The guy at HD said I needed to do that but I don’t want to work with acid.
I did not treat it with acid. Depending what paint you use. Read directions on back of paint can, i would follow that instead. I've never used acid before painting concrete.
Looks great
Great job, guys! Does this have to be sealed? Can it be pressure washed?
It doesn't have to be sealed after you paint it and it can be pressure washed.
Awesome....
Thanks 🙏
Thanks.
Hope it helped you out.
@@MrFixALot for sure!
You should have caulked the cracks.
But if it is not painted and is bare concrete then pressure washing should be fine, right?
You are correct. If it's not painted, the best thing to do is power wash. Good luck.
Do you need to use a primer first before concrete paint?
If there is no paint there already, you should use a bonding primer. If this concrete is going to be open to the elements, it will almost always peel regardless, but a primer reduces that. Good luck.
What primer do u recommend for a painted pealing old porch. Also what should I use for the cracks?
I think I got in too late to do this now, but will get in done come spring. How soon after curing can I paint the concrete, or can I spray paint my steps for now just to get through winter?
As long as the concrete is cured, you can paint it.
i prefer Benjamin Moore over Sherwin Williams
If you prefer a different product, you should explain why. That would be helpful to the folks looking for answers not more questions. Thanks!
What tool did you use to scrape?
I used a paint scraper. You can pick them up at Sherwin Williams or Home Depot etc.
looks great... loxon xp
thanks
