Flea Market Tool Haul - Join me as I search for deals!
There are two great flea markets near my home every weekend. Both are usually excellent for finding quality tools. Hop in my Suburban and let's go see what we can find for about $100.

Installing Low Cost LED Shop Lights
Переглядів 310День тому
I took a chance on some low cost LED shop lights from Amazon to light my new workshop. The cost was about $110 for 12 of them so I needed two sets and a way to mount them to the beams. I had no idea how they'd be considering the price but it was worth a shot. Let's get busy! Awesome Porter Cable Model 314 Saw Maintenance
Переглядів 344День тому
I love this little 4" blade Porter Cable Model 314 saw. I got it from the massive tool box haul 10 months ago and each time I've used it I've felt guilty because I hadn't given it a full checkup. Well, that day has arrived. Let's get busy! Buy my books: www.amazon.com/Flea-Biscuit-Finds-Matthew-Bonazzoli/dp/069286668X/ref=sr_1_1 #vintagetools #portercable #saw #powertools #maintenance

I liked my massive shelving unit so much that I decided to build a companion to it but make it a workbench/shelving combo. I also employed different construction techniques than the shelving to show different methods. I may have taken things too far with the lights, power strips and tool boxes but that's for you to decide. Let's get busy! Buy my books: www.amazon.com/Flea-Biscuit-Finds-Matthew-...
Wild Warehouse Estate Sale
Переглядів 3,4 тис.21 день тому
This estate sale was too much and I mean that literally! An entire warehouse of tools and tool boxes as well as a house and garage full of other things. It was overwhelming but just when I thought that I'd leave empty-handed due to the crowds, I spotted a long table with a sign which read that everything was $2. Since it was also 50% off, I looked it over and found some gold. Let's get busy! Bu...

This older Craftsman miter saw came with a workbench I had bought for $100 and it worked for precisely one cut before it quit on me. Build These Awesome Insulated Roll Up Door Covers!
Переглядів 617Місяць тому
Got a roll up door you don't use too often and want to make beautiful insulating Barn Door covers for the inside? My workshop has two roll up doors. The 10' at the front I use a lot. The 12' at the back I almost never use so I decided to make some removable insulating wood door covers to match the paneling I had put up. I called my friend Tyron over because I knew I could use his expertise. Let...

How To Restore a 1950's Sears Dunlap Drill Press - Some Assembly Required!
Hey great job on the restoration! I have a similar model craftsman I’m restoring just had a quick question. After wiring everything up like it was before the grinder does not spin it actually locks it up. Does anyone have an idea why it would do that. I took pictures of the wiring beforehand and everything.
Good question. How far did you tear it down? Is it possible some of the washers on the shaft are messed up? Another possibility that would cause it to lock are metal debris in the windings or damage to the windings. Is it locked with the grinding wheels on or off?
This one is from 1982
Thanks for the info! How can you ID the date on these? I usually have to guess if I can't find it in an old catalog.
Chasing craftsman like it's snap on. Why?
lol! I grew up using Craftsman and there's a lot of history to it that I find interesting. I chase it because I build sets of decent tools to donate out to people who need them and USA Craftsman is still fairly easy to find. I want new mechanics to start with American Made Tools whenever possible. I do keep the Snap On that I find. :)
I try to buy metal boxes but i have bought plastic boxes ive found old snap on boxes old mac boxes old Kennedy boxes and all brands of tools i like Blackhawk and Esco tools and SK Stanley they are so many name brand its impossible to keep up with them
I hear you! I've got a tool box where each drawer is what I've collected of some of these brands. No comlete sets yet and some likely will never be completed. I've got Blackhawk, Vulcan, P&C, Williams, Bonney, Harley Davidson, Mustang, Easco, Powr-Kraft and more. Maybe someday... :)
I had someone give me an adjustable wrench made like a rachet its ok if you have plenty of room but i don't think it would hold up to much torque i always buy tools and boxes because when a teenager helps me for the summer and they show interest and really try to learn ill repaint the box and fix up a complete set of handtools for them and alot of them are so happy they cry and it keeps them interested because nobody has ever done anything like that for them im happy to give them stuff boys and girls some of the girls will outwork the boys
That's awesome! I do pretty much the exact same thing. A lot of what I take in gets donated out again. Not just to teenagers but anyone who wants to learn. When they complete a project they get to keep any of the tools used that they don't have. Even simple things like showing them how to change the oil in their cars is a great experience and i usually get to learn some things as well. Glad you're out there helping young people learn how to be self sufficient!
Anytime you can get metric wrenches cheap get them because i keep them for making special bent wrenches i have probably two dozen from over the years and i know what engine they are for and when i do that repair im glad i have them
That's a good point. Do you heat them to bend them? I've come across custom bent wrenches in tool box hauls but I've never made one.
I bought an old lilse rolling seat for doing brake jobs two weeks ago its old but in great shape i got it for 8 dollars
Nice! One thing I've always hated doing is brake lines. I'm originally from New England, so the bane of my existence as a kid was when a line would blow. It meant every line and hose had to come out and they would all be rusted solid.
That's a massive head on that rachet it should have breakaway strength
You obviously do not like tools made in China or Taiwan, and I perfectly understand that. But what about tools made in Japan? Just wonderin’🤔
I think they're fine as well as a lot of the newer Taiwan tools. China is mostly junk and India is generally even worse. It's just that I grew up when USA tools were everywhere, so I'm more interested in them. That being said, I have some foreign made tools which are regulars in my toolbox.
@@floridarusticrepairs Japan is known for their high quality tools checked by their quality standards called the Japanese Industrial Standards, like KTC tools, Nepros, Tone, Asahi tools, Lobster, Vessel, Anex & Ko-Ken.
@@jdive12 Thanks for the info! I come across a lot of older Japanese tools from back when the quality was not what it is today but not much of the newer stuff.
Ok, I think I might have you beat except it wasn't at a flea market. Today I got a 1/3 hp Craftsman grinder with lamp dated to 1964 and a trunk load of vintage tools (pliers, wrenches, clamps, files, etc, etc) all for $60!
That's awesome! These grinders will last more than a lifetime. Congrats on the tool haul!
Where this flea market
Lakeland, FL and Plant City, FL
Great haul! $20 for that loaded Rubbermaid tool box was a score! Who do you donate the tool sets to when you complete them?
Thanks! i donate to anyone who needs them and wants to learn how to fix things. Students or adults.
Nice haul. Seems like your zoned in on The Craftsman tools. Which were best made and life guaranteed. Thank you for sharing! 💯👊👍
Thanks! i grew up with Craftsman. My father and grandfather had them and i saw truck mechanics using them so i've always liked them. I didn't need Snap On or whatever other expensive brand was out there. Craftsman has never let me down.
POLK COUNTY!!!!😍
Yes!
Great video. I hope you make more videos of flea markets. Greetings from Germany.
Will do! Danke.
There’s always a great sense of fulfillment after being able to complete a set! Great job!
Agreed! Soon I'll be going through all of the sockets again to build some others and see what else I may be missing to complete other sets.
You buy the kind of stuff I buy I love flea markets and second hand shops
Most of my life is bought second hand. I picked up this trait from my mother who was frugal to the end.
I would love to go to a flea market like that. I miss living in civilization.
lol! Where are you living? some people think I live far from civilization because it's central Florida. :)
@floridarusticrepairs ...... Yukon Territory , Canuckistan. Right next to Alaska. Town of 500 with the largest populated center a two hour drive away.
That car parking behind you looks so tiny comparevto yours ... your car is really huge .. i love american full size suv 🎉i think the bench grinder needs new ballbearings .. great video .. it was a great haul congragulation . .
I love my Chevy Suburban. It's been a reliable truck. Thanks for the tip on the bench grinder. I'll look into the bearings when I restore it.
Heck I'm looking at spending $40 just for a face shield and most of the grinders I see for sale are like $50-60 and not nearly as heavy duty as that one. Surprised at how many tools were there but It's been years since I've been to a flea market.
The only explanation I have for why there are so many tools at these two flea markets is that it's a somewhat rural area. I've never seen anywhere else that compares. the grinder was the deal of the day.
Why does everybody collect Craftsman China HOUGIE eagle
I admit that I do have a few of the Craftsman China tools I don't collect them or look for them at the flea markets. Only the older USA stuff. I guess it's because I grew up using it and it never failed me. Not that I don't look out for other USA brands but the Craftsman is easier to build sets with.
Where is the we’d/fri/sat flea market? Plant city?
Yes, in Plant City. Wed is the biggest day followed by Sunday. Saturday is quite limited but sometimes I do go and find some great deals. Lakeland at the Silver Moon Drive In is biggest on Sunday. Their Saturday is limited as well.
Yankee screw driver some wood workers really like them
Thanks for the info!
Williston is 20 minutes from Gainesville. My in-laws are in zephyrhills 1/2 the year. 2 years ago we stayed for a month in oldsmar near Tampa Greg
Zephyrhills is close to me. The Plant City flea market on Wednesdays is great.
Gotta love the flea market!
Agreed! The ones near me are great. Soon enough though they'll be taken over by Chinese junk.
My Grandpa called that store Monkey and Wrench, definitely looking forward to the drill restoration. That was a great tool haul, fun to watch. That Rubbermaid tool box looks like a beast. Thanks for taking us along.
lol! I've heard it called Monkey Wards but never heard Monkey and Wrench. I'm thinking of working on that drill tomorrow. It looks like it'll be fun.
Nice pick up on the grinder.
Thanks! That was the deal of the day. It'll make a great project.
Thanks for sharing the trip and haul! We had that Rubbermade tool box - never rusted and never marred an auto interior 😂! Rubbermade is one of those brands where old USA version was many times better.
Yes! That's a great box to keep for road trips. It's surprisingly strong. Is Rubbermaid not manufactured in the USA now?
Nice grinder, Mugsy definitely didn’t approve though
lol! Yes, he's skittish around loud tools.
Nice haul. I had box kinda like that in the 80s. I don’t recall the brand. Good to see that you are supervised. Mugsy still hasn’t figured out those beds are “wireless chargers.”
lol! I wonder if he'll ever figure that bed out. He just likes to sleep on the work bench.
@ he will. Mine usually have an adjustment period for anything new.
Mugsy!!
He's my boy. :)
The screwdriver with another screwdriver inside it. I believe they are called nesting tools because one tool nest inside the other. I have a few of them, Most have 3 screwdrivers. I have one that has 4. Are you anywhere near williston florida? My wife and I are coming down for a month, first of next year, I wouldn't mind hitting some flea markets if there's any nearby. Have a Jesus filled day everyone Greg in Michigan
Ah, Nesting Tools makes sense. I guess for field kits where space was a premium. I'm near Tampa and Lakeland. I've never heard of Williston so my guess is it's not too close but if it is, let me know. I go every few weeks.
Until I get a garage/workshop the size of yours, I must refrain from visiting flea markets, estate sales etc. I wonder if your Montgomery Ward drill was made by one of the Chicago area toolmakers of the day.🤔
I'll be doing a restoration video of the Montgomery Ward's drill so I'll show the model number then if that helps to further ID it.
If the tool spins, never wear gloves. If the tool catches the gloves it will suck your hand in and do more damage than if it just cuts you
Thanks for the reminder. I've heard this said but it's just habit for me to always wear gloves when working on projects like this.
Useful. Thank you.
Glad it was helpful. It's been almost tow years since I did these and they still look good.
Fantastic lighting, I need to do the same thing. I'm impressed with the price. Thanks for sharing.
Thanks! I took a chance and was not disappointed with these budget lights. So far none have failed on me.
Wow, those are bright! I paid $60 each for mine, so it seems I overpaid!
Prices are coning down dramatically but another thing which figures into price is how efficient they are. For LEDs, these each consume a lot of electricity. 40 watts each.
Thats a great size saw. I do prefer corded tools over battery in the shop. Everything has its place, battery for impacts and things you do outside so your not dragging a cord. That was a great maintenance tip. I will be on the lookout for a saw that size because my old Craftsman is heavy and big. Thanks again for another helpful video.
Thanks! I agree, especially on the value of having a battery powered impact driver. I recently saw one of these saws at the local flea market for only $20. They're out there so you'll eventually find one. Good luck!
Wow,they seem like they're doing great!
Thanks! It's only been three months but so far no issues.
Lights are an important projects as our senior eyes start to go. You may want a couple of task lights on benches.
I totally agree! I've added some bench lights already but need to add one over my carpenter's bench next.
I have that exact Craftsman gray box socket set, but mine has slightly different contents. You're right, it is 80s and 90s.
Thanks for the info! Worth the ten dollars.
The workshop looks great. The new lights get it plenty bright in there now. 😀
Thanks! These were an incredible deal. So far after a few months they're all still working.
Looks good! I am blind as a bat so lots of light is good. I would be afraid of the tie wraps fatiguing over time or getting brittle. Thanks for sharing
@@91Z50 Thanks! Interesting point on the ty-wraps. I'd expect they will become brittle over time. The lights weigh very little though and I used heavy ty-wraps so I think it'll be ok for a long time.
You really caught us off guard with Tuesday video.
Yes! I This video was shot a few months ago so I figured I'd best get it released and since it's short I just sent it out.
That is a great size for smaller jobs.
Yes, it's become one of my favorites.
Great video. Good repair. Thanks for sharing! 💯👍
Thanks Terry! I use this saw often so I figured it was a good idea to give it a check up.
a fucking idiot they let run wild
not how you use it moron.read the efn instructions,no wonder you failed.
It's not grease, it's gear oil.
Correct 34:29
Correct. I misspoke on this. I've done several saws and usually it's grease but these worm drive saws use gear oil. Skil sells a brand of it and that's what I generally use.
