I really started crying at the scene where he pointed out where the food sign was actually the last thing he owned before his parents' death. Because my grandmother passed away and I was so sad that I couldn't let go of the past until I told myself that my grandmother may not be around in physical, but in mentally and spiritually, she is always here with me in my heart and my mind, as if she was standing beside me, telling me that I must know that she will never leave me no matter what and that she would want me to become successful in life and have a good lifestyle in the future. This restaurant was MADE for the KN goal - to really rebuild restaurants just down on hard times, but still has a dedicated staff and chef/opener/management. Just saw a comment from a month ago saying they’re still open with excellent reviews!! Great to know they survived covid
32:46. What Gordon said to make him feel that his parents are still watching him, is really heart touching. No wonder why I love this man more than any other movie stars or celebs.💕✌️
So many Owners would be Lying or piling excuse upon excuse. When one is actually honest and open Gordon is softer and kinder but still stern. These type of owners are the most likely to succeed because they don't pile bullshit.
@@sagieboi1204 there's a reason he hardly yells at John even at the start, he knew he wasn't dealing with a stubborn or arrogant fool or a owner who didn't care. Just a guy who was struggling and had lost his way and needed a (firm, but caring) to get back on track.
This is the saddest episode. John clearly misses his parents but at the same time, is holding onto resentment towards them and the restaurant, because they forced him to work there from a young age. Conflicted is the term.
One of the rare episodes where you actually want the manager to succeed, that and a heartfelt conversation rather than a shouting match, good stuff senior Ramsay
I live not too far from this restaurant, and I had a great slice of cheese pizza from them. I can't speak on the actual restaurant quality of the dine-in food, but they definitely do get business.
In my opinion, this is one of the best, if not THE best KN episodes ever. It certainly feels real compared to some of the other non- sensical / scripted episodes out there.... The owner is 100% genuine and acts genuine. I was in tears because I know how it feels to fail your kids...Kudos to you John and Gordon. 👍👏
Part of me thinks John hates his parents for dragging him out of school and refused to let him to live his life. But loves them because there his parents and wants to keep the doors open for them
this episode made me cry. Seeing the staff care so deeply really was emotional for me. And to see that John just didn't know the way but wasn't so ego centric like the other owners on this show. His head chef seems whip smart as well as the rest of the staff. The conversation that starts at 15:47 is amazing - John sticks up for the restaurant and you can see the staff and Gordon impressed that he finally uses his passion and his voice.
The owner almost never lies to Gordon about the choices on the restaurant and the staff. He admitted his fault. That's rare in kitchen nightmares to my eyes.
What a genuine guy the owner is...not like the other ungrateful, arrogant, know it all owners..Gordon is like a therapist fixing family issues not just business problems
Lmao it's like mine too. I was lije gone for a school trip for 2 days, my mom cleaned the room and finds all my shit. It was embarrassing to explain everything.
I think that's the point Ramsay was trying to make to the manager: it doesn't matter that you don't "serve" it, if you present moldy food to a customer, it will put them off. It's also a health hazard. Display Food is fine but you separate it from other food, it's kept in a plastic/glass case and you shouldn't handle it bare-handed. It should be there a few days at absolute most.
My favorite KN moments are very rare. They come at the end when I check to see if places are still open. When obviously good people are still running their businesses, it's a nice feeling.
One of the few honest, hardworking owners to be on the show. Accepted his faults and genuinely wanted to do good. Love from India mate!! Keep on this path. Happy to see you so successful. If anytime I am in Brooklyn I would love to visit.
“So are we supposed make the display food everyday just to bin it?” Dude if I see a mouldy display I’m walking out of there and calling for an inspection
One of the realest reality shows ever (even though a lot of it is researched and pre-planned, but Gordon knows how to get to the psychological core of people's problems like a drill sergeant!) and the uncensored versions make it all that much more real
I really felt for John. He was honest the whole time and just seemed like a heartbroken man who’d lost his way. I’m glad he’s still going and is successful
I was really tearing up when the owner said that the specials didn't change since his parents died and all the emotional scenes after... so sad. I hope he was able to move on.
One thing I love about this episode is John isn't some egotistical maniac or anything, he's just a regular dude who inherited a business and really wanted to make it succeed, but didn't quite know how to do that in the 21st century. He wanted to provide for his family. He was - eventually - able to humble himself and realise that what he's doing isn't working, and that, in reality, he was a boy living in a man's world. He cared about this business, because for him that was the last vestige of his parents that he clearly loved and missed so very much. It's not often that we root for the owners in shows like this, but good God, did this man give a good account of himself.
This is officially my favorite episode. John is an honest hardworking guy, he's been there the whole time. Unfortunately his parent may never teach him to be the owner. He got soul for sure. And thats why, i do believe thats why his staffs still sticking loyal to him. The cooks really do care, their teamwork is amazing, they care enough to give their feedback. The fact that joe is frustrated in some instance means that he does care about this bussiness.
2021 update: the restaurant is doing great. Its got a 4.5 star rating on tripadvisor. Food quality has gone down a bit i read in the reviews but everyone leaves quite satisfied.
@@MIZZKIE Not quite. In Japan there was another show called Super Sentai. Power rangers was an American show, with American actors that used the action footage from Super Sentai. Powers rangers was then given a Japanese dub.
I went here in late 2019 and the decor was the same as Gordon had left it. The pizza was fucking incredible. The takeout side is still open and they were slammed. If you're in Brooklyn you should go.
Gordon has a way of reading people. A thoughtful man with a quirky and robust sense of humor. Watching these programs I care more about how I cook and present food.
One of the most genuine USA kitchen nightmares. John was just a good guy, worker who was broken by the loss of his parents. He just needed a culinary expert like Gordon to snap him straight. To give him a hand and a push in the right direction.
It was nice of Gordon to say he'd pay for the dry cleaning, probably a drop in the bucket for him financially but it was deffo the right thing to do and he probably made that couple's day
when he said the sign was untouched ,everyone's heart broke. He could not bear to erase the board with his parents handwriting or change anything his parents had done. He wanted to freeze time and you can't .
The way Gordon find a lot of frozen foods... I was like „wait, is there maybe a frozen body there?“ I mean it looks the owner is addicted to freeze things 😯
I’ve eaten at the pizza shop many times when I worked in the area. I’ve only been to the real restaurant once for a date and I remember the food being great, old fashioned… But great. That’s exactly what I was in the mood for. Hard to believe they were struggling.
As a 22 year old man, this episode has got me in tears, not from all the damage John has made throughout his business but of how much he is willing to accept it all deep inside in front of Ramsey who was also about to tear up about it. I hope John has still moved forward from the past and may god wish him more success in his business.
Any person ripped off education and made to help family business is the worst thing any parents can do to their child. You don't have enough education equals you not having enough opportunities in life. Still John kept with his family business and is going great. Nice to hear that. You need a strong devotion to keep doing it. Hat's off.
Chef Joe is a vital part of the success. There was ZERO problem with him. Really good that John is maximizing Joe's skills. That guy deserves his own restaurant

I think this guy is genuinely broken tho. U dont need the music to know that
Kevin Prior indeed. But this episode will be more better if was like the UK version. The feels and everything
Amen
This restaurant was MADE for the KN goal - to really rebuild restaurants just down on hard times, but still has a dedicated staff and chef/opener/management. Just saw a comment from a month ago saying they’re still open with excellent reviews!! Great to know they survived covid
is no one gonna talk about how when john threw the boxes there was girl who was there and got hit by the boxes 💀
They were just boxing
That's what she gets for bringing the moldy desserts.
I cracked up so hard!!!🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣🤣
I was like OMG poor girl but she did serve moldy desserts to Gordon SOOOOOOOOOOOOOO yeah☺

What Gordon said to make him feel that his parents are still watching him, is really heart touching. No wonder why I love this man more than any other movie stars or celebs.💕✌️
I love Gordon's face when the owner accepts responsibility.
Owner* but the point still stands.
The owner got balls to admit it was his fault, hope he's still open
Yes he is still open
@@WizardAmbrose lmao your nickname freaked me out for a sec
He is... With good ratings apparently
@@SS-hb1xm me too
@FEMINISM2023 aaah... Ok... I guess
13:43 rip that girl who had an avalanche of boxes fall on her
he just smacked her with the boxes or some shit 😂
I live not too far from this restaurant, and I had a great slice of cheese pizza from them. I can't speak on the actual restaurant quality of the dine-in food, but they definitely do get business.
i tried a pizza from there too, it was not that good but yknow
Are they still open?
@@dayanaradelosangeles7026 To my knowledge they still are open.
@@mobil-eyez in my opinion, it's awesome pizza.
For John, keeping the 'tradition' in his restaurant is a way to keep his parents in his memory.
Poor John.
Man, that head chef is great, and that other guy who kept saying 'Oh boy' everytime the plates came back to the kitchen had me rolling.
me eating nutella out of the jar: "Yes you tell them Gordon!"
Part of me thinks John hates his parents for dragging him out of school and refused to let him to live his life.
But loves them because there his parents and wants to keep the doors open for them
I think hates is a strong word. Probably more resents them is a better term to use.
this episode made me cry.
Why does Gordon going through the restaurants' pantries look like my mother going through my room?
She knows about that Di*do you're hiding..😂
Joking 😂
Lmao it's like mine too. I was lije gone for a school trip for 2 days, my mom cleaned the room and finds all my shit. It was embarrassing to explain everything.

"Nothing else leaves this kitchen, *unless it's going in a garbage bag"*
oh my god I can't XDD
Legends say, Gordon is still finding new fridges in the basement
To watch him fully admit it's his fault, so dejected and sad and talking about his parents ... made me tear up. 😢
"I would say 'enjoy', but... I know better" most down-to-earth chef ever xD
If I was a customer and found out the display was moldy I would be disgusted
I think that's the point Ramsay was trying to make to the manager: it doesn't matter that you don't "serve" it, if you present moldy food to a customer, it will put them off. It's also a health hazard. Display Food is fine but you separate it from other food, it's kept in a plastic/glass case and you shouldn't handle it bare-handed. It should be there a few days at absolute most.
Spores can spread too
@@Cyb3rM1nd I would prefer Plastic displays over moldy shit
@@dpm2937 even some pictures would be fine
Im surprise Gorden managed to eat anything after seeing that mouldy display
My favorite KN moments are very rare. They come at the end when I check to see if places are still open. When obviously good people are still running their businesses, it's a nice feeling.
One of the few honest, hardworking owners to be on the show. Accepted his faults and genuinely wanted to do good. Love from India mate!! Keep on this path. Happy to see you so successful. If anytime I am in Brooklyn I would love to visit.
So far this episode is my favorite ❤️❤️❤️ and I cried, the owner has a big heart for his parents and one of the best qualities we must all have 😇
“So are we supposed make the display food everyday just to bin it?” Dude if I see a mouldy display I’m walking out of there and calling for an inspection
One of the realest reality shows ever (even though a lot of it is researched and pre-planned, but Gordon knows how to get to the psychological core of people's problems like a drill sergeant!) and the uncensored versions make it all that much more real
when he said his kid said "Ramsey's gonna fix everything." I started tearing up
I really felt for John. He was honest the whole time and just seemed like a heartbroken man who’d lost his way. I’m glad he’s still going and is successful
So many things frozen you'd think you're at an ice cream shop.
I was really tearing up when the owner said that the specials didn't change since his parents died and all the emotional scenes after... so sad. I hope he was able to move on.
Me: "What an asshole owner wanting to serve frozen crap."
Owner: "That has been there since my parents died..."
Me: "Oh sweet lord, poor man..."
There is Ms Jean.
They're still going as well! :)
2021 update: the restaurant is doing great. Its got a 4.5 star rating on tripadvisor. Food quality has gone down a bit i read in the reviews but everyone leaves quite satisfied.
Hey, that’s cool! I’m happy for John - wonder if he went back to the pizza ovens after Gordon left 😂
Glad it survived the quarantine 😊
Aaah, I am so happy his restaurant is still around and its doing a little better!
It's 4.8 now wooow
"O'Come One! Your kidding me! Seriously!? Oh My God!!" Gordon's constant sayings!
Thank you my darling ...my fav. He says anytime he’s served 😄
also "fuck me"
And of course 'Smell this!'
And also 'That was the most dreadfull lunch I've ever had' \ 'My lunch was a joke\disaster'
And 'Its taste blend..'
I really felt bad for the owner 😢
Seeing a smile after gordon did the changes was really awesome ❤

When the meaning of that specials sign hit me, I really cried. That man needed help and I'm glad he got it.
I love how gordon both helped the owner move on and saved his memories
The UK version of the US version of a UK show, it's like the Japanese dub of Power Rangers all over again.
Glad to see someone who knows that Power Rangers was originally from Japan.
@@MIZZKIE Not quite. In Japan there was another show called Super Sentai. Power rangers was an American show, with American actors that used the action footage from Super Sentai. Powers rangers was then given a Japanese dub.
Dafuq has happened here
@@dpm2937 😂I was about to get sucked in and search Super Sentai and power rangers Japanese dub but then I was like what dafuq are you doing now

One of the best chefs on kitchen nightmares…who wasn’t a lazy oaf. He knew what he was doing
I went here in late 2019 and the decor was the same as Gordon had left it. The pizza was fucking incredible. The takeout side is still open and they were slammed. If you're in Brooklyn you should go.
Good to know that they are ok now
“It looks like someone’s eaten that whole dessert tray, and it’s shot out twice as quick as it went in!” LOL 😂
Me: damn that pizza looks good
Gordon: looks greasy
Me: yeah, what the hell guys?
Same lol
Maybe you never had a great pizza bro

I’ve eaten at the pizza shop many times when I worked in the area. I’ve only been to the real restaurant once for a date and I remember the food being great, old fashioned… But great. That’s exactly what I was in the mood for.

As a 22 year old man, this episode has got me in tears, not from all the damage John has made throughout his business but of how much he is willing to accept it all deep inside in front of Ramsey who was also about to tear up about it. I hope John has still moved forward from the past and may god wish him more success in his business.
Seeing that after Amy's Baking Company is soo much relieving.
"Look all the orders I have...salalalala"
Amy is a bitch.
John is just a poor scarred guy.
Any person ripped off education
and made to help family business is the worst thing any parents can do to their child. You don't have enough education equals you not having enough opportunities in life. Still John kept with his family business and is going great. Nice to hear that. You need a strong devotion to keep doing it. Hat's off.
UPDATE: Mama Maria's closed in Feb 2023 because John wanted to retire. He made it.
Chef Joe is a vital part of the success. There was ZERO problem with him. Really good that John is maximizing Joe's skills. That guy deserves his own restaurant
"iT's FoR prEseNTatIon OnLy" this part gave anxiety... what part didn't he understand that is disgusting????
Chef Gordon put photographs of John's parents on the wall, so wholesome🙌🙌
The place is still open and John is a classic case of parents bring up their kid to be a subservient follower. Luckily things got turned around.
Gordon: gets watered by a floded plant.
Manager: I think that that is a bit of karma.
Me: We will see who will get karmed next...
Seeing that guy break down over his parents made me tear up. I’m glad Gordon helped him out.
