Great video Chris. I built a rocker box several years ago just because I wanted to try one out. Didn't have plans, just worked off a picture of one of the old timers' box. I'm with you, it's a great way to capture fine gold. Thanks for posting. Can't wait to see what you come with...
Great to see some one playing with the old stuff, one thing I saw on alot of old rocker boxes is a piece of canvas and a rifle or stop on the upper slide. (right below the screen box and above the sluice). this gives gold another spot to stop and settle before the sluice. Good luck and happy hunting!
I saw someone demo a rocker box and they were not gentle with the rocking motion. They jerked the lever back and forth very deliberately and said that's the way it's done. Donno what is the best way but thought I would pass it along. I have great fun watching your vids.
Very interesting near my area there's hundreds of those rockerbox leftovers in little pile rocks washed dotted all over the place, i have found small nuggets left behind detecting and i have tested the soil with my underflow system to see what fines were left and to my amazement very little fine gold left in the piles so it defanly works well, was 25000 miners working in the area ,just imagine thousands of those things going ,what a sight.
I'm re-watching all of your rocker box videos (I spent most of the day today building one to test tomorrow with my new GM 1000). I have to say that I still think this is a really good video... ...your cinematography et all have improved tremendously, but there's still fun, gold, and learny bits here. I like it. Thanks for all the tips and teaching!
What a great video!!! Retro, seems to beat out modern models...without the high prices, if you build it yourself. Your videos stand out because you attempt to utilize the odd and forgotten, in new and interesting ways. I'm in the mental phase of planning a new model of sluice...or I'm just mental ;) and your videos keep me going, while I'm house bound due to the pandemic, my PTSD and Washington State's erroneous seasonal mining laws. Keep 'em coming brother!!!
Appalachian Prospectors it'll be a while off because I have the engineering skills of a potato. But I plan on having a recirculating water system and all of it as a self contained unit.
Memories ,found a intact old timers rocker on the turon in the late 60s as a young fella.just missing the handle.it was way up on the bank, big flood put there i guess.
rocker boxes are amazing for areas you cant reuse water with a pump and highbanker. sometimes your just too far from a creek and the only option you have is an old steel tub and a clap board rocker.
Interesting, what did you make this out of.? Also you need a better classifier screen on top. You have a sweet spot there, I'd be putting some time in to it.
keesanka1 the things I could tell you about this spot would blow your mind hole! Lol. It's built from marine ply. The top plate is built in the same way as the 1800s design so for this one it's ok. But future builds it'll be very different
Dave Taylor I had to cut that from the video because of the length. But yes I did. Several times. But not one speck made it out. I detected and panned both the tailings and the mullok
Cool video, I want to build a Rocker Box myself. some nice shiny in the pan is always a plus, where are you from? Keep up the good work and may you always have a Flash In Your Pan...
I've seen several of your reviews on prospecting products and after all those new toys how do u feel about the rocker now? Is there anything better out there in your opinion if you have limited access to water and your prospecting area is hard to get to?
I really Love the Rocker box!! Awesome video, thanks for sharing! Take care out there. 🙂🤘🤙✌

Appalachian Prospectors it'll be a while off because I have the engineering skills of a potato. But I plan on having a recirculating water system and all of it as a self contained unit.

I love that Rocker Box but I didn't hear where it came from!?!
I'm glad we don't have frogs that sound like a wood clacker.
Fun time.

Gday Chris, do you have any plans for building a rocker box?
Great vid mate nice and calming rockin away the day, did you end up with any losses in your tailings.
Dave Taylor I had to cut that from the video because of the length.
But yes I did. Several times. But not one speck made it out. I detected and panned both the tailings and the mullok
can you find small to medium size gold nuggets with the rocker box?
Cool video, I want to build a Rocker Box myself. some nice shiny in the pan is always a plus, where are you from? Keep up the good work and may you always have a Flash In Your Pan...
Flash In Your Pan thanks mate, I live in Victoria Australia.
Nice, I was thinking Aussie or New Zlander, none the less great job and Keep up the great work.
We are also somewhat interchangeable with south Africans. haha
Hey Chris, 2 years later have you got around to making your improved version?
Hi Chris. i'm one of the winners in your recent competition. I was wondering when you were going to send out your new book.
Grant Griffiths sent you a Facebook message mate 😃
99 It would be good to dress up in clothes from the period and work some ground with rocker boxes and take some photos / video.
I've seen several of your reviews on prospecting products and after all those new toys how do u feel about the rocker now? Is there anything better out there in your opinion if you have limited access to water and your prospecting area is hard to get to?
Its a really good tool, not great on fine gold though.
Hey Chris, where’d you cop your rocker box?
Built it.
Hey fellow Tassie prospector, keen to share hit me up, got full set up, and 4wd ute
That frog was getting a bit too political imo. I wouldn’t let him back on the channel if I were you.
