Even though you didn't find any fines, it's good that you did the test. In my area, whenever I find a nugget metal detecting, it is always accompanied by fines, sometimes in crazy amounts. It is definitely worth a test every time you find something with your metal detector, even if it's just a test pan,

A quick idea for a mod on the rocker box instead of scouping water into it what about using one of your big buckets with a plug in the bottom that you can get a full bucket of water to sit on the top and pull the plug as you rocket it & even might be able to add more scoups of dirty depending how quick the water runs out? Just a thought

Hello Chris, nice vid ;) Since you had started experimenting with making diy gold finding/separating equipment.. I always wonder, if you could prefect the rocker box.. First of all, I would had thought that since the rocking part is pretty much from left to right, it might be interesting to put some sort of vortex mats in it, and maybe to have miners mose as the first layer? The carpet works as a friction catcher, so i would think, it could be better using some sort of more efficient mat? Just a thought..

What if, the clay bits you kept were in a bucket, water added and a cordless drill with a strong paint mixer attachment was used to break-up the soil. Then, it could be poured through the rocker, sluice or panned out. Ideas..???

Instead of a puddling tub how about fill bucket quarter full of dirt, then fill with water and agitate with an electric drill with a paint stirrer attachment to break up the clay balls.

funny story, I remember someone sticking their finger in front of one of those little monkey spiders. It jumped on their fingertip from about 6 inches away and promptly bit them. Fortunately, they only suffered a mild envenomisation and recovered by the next day.

There is something slightly romantic about busting out the home made rocker box and sloshing a bit of dirt through it with a ladle from a muddy puddle? Is there a drawn plan for your favorite rocker box design or are they all mostly the same design? Have you tried using different carpets in the bottom section of the rocker box?
