    You have a gold miner's paradise in Australia. :) I live in France and things are different here. There are no universal and cheap gold mining permits. You can get a free permit to wash some stream in the mountains, but you have to go through a long procedure, submit your equipment for inspection and they will only give you a permit for this stream. You can mine gold, but you can't sell it. Of course - the freedom-loving French, gold mining enthusiasts didn't care about these rules and are mining gold secretly. We really lack such convenient legislation like yours.

    Thank you so much for this video. You do tend to come up with topics that I actually want covered, but rarely are discussed by other UA-camrs. Another example of something I find just a tad frustrating is that, as an American, I am used to miners and prospectors speaking in terms of ounces or fractions of it anyway. Watching Aussies we constantly hear grams. This is even true when they are talking about amounts that are well into whole ounces. Then there are others that use grains or penny weight. Arrrrgh! I just wish everyone would use one unit of measure, lol. Obviously the value of gold varies over time, but this is something I have never seen anyone else cover.
    BTW, last I looked, here in the states gold was going for about $1280 per troy ounce. Is there that much difference in the value of the Aussie dollar and the US dollar? Maybe there just paying more for it over there. Well it just seems like a crazy big difference.

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому +1

      Currently gold is around $1700 Toz. You may be able to make a profit using the currency trade markets.
      Grams is the ideal way to work it out as its a fraction of 10. Simple maths man! haha, people talk in inchs and galons and my head spins!
      I try to cover topics people ask me about so theres a god variety of videos!

    • @WhoWouldWantThisName
      @WhoWouldWantThisName 6 років тому +1

      I wish the US would just make the switch to metrics. They were supposed to do it as far back as the `50s. The only entity here that uses it is the military. They DID switch over back in the `50s and `60s. The imperial system is so frustrating. I can't keep track of how many of what make one of something else.
      I just need to get used to thinking in grams, since that's much more applicable than oz.s, on the scale we are working with.

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому +2

      Joseph kolodziej no way this is virgin ground. It was heavily mined in the 1850s.
      What I didn't show you was the bits of steel in was digging up. Its been laid down between 1880 and now.
      I didn't want the video to come off as arrogant, it was aimed to change how you view the ground. By looking at the money side of it it becomes easier to see what to walk away from it.

    The other things to consider is that the buy price on offer is for 24K or pure gold which is always less than the spot price or sell price. Virtually all alluvial gold is not 100% pure and can range from 85 to 98% pure, with exceptions of course. For example, in February I sold some of my gold. I weighed out 18.5 grams of my fines. Had to get that melted into a button as the vendor will not accept "gold dust" as they determine the purity by doing a specific gravity test. After melting there was some loss due to oxides attached to the gold. I ended up with 17.7 grams at 93% purity yielding AU$47.85 per gram compared to the then current gold price of AU$53 per gram.

      LOL

    • @GramCanyonSam
      @GramCanyonSam 6 років тому +3

      Stu JD the gold in Cali ranges from 16k to 22k and most vendors only pay 75% of spot on value of purity. So where I was mining most the time was 22k I was lucky and was getting 85% of spot. Roughly 29$ to 33$ per gram. Vt gold on the other hand is 23.5% pure with platinum in most as the impurity.

    • @stujd1539
      @stujd1539 6 років тому +1

      If my gold was only 23.5% pure with other precious metals I would consider refining to separate the metals. In essence one could be giving away the lions share or throwing the baby out with the bath water so to speak. The decision to refine is an economic decision and all depends on what other metals are present and their economic value verses the cost of refining. As I write this the price of Au is AU$1721 an ounce and Platinum is AU$1203 per ounce. So if you sold an ounce at 23.5% Au and say 60% Pt and the rest in silver, you would be literally giving the buyer around AU$800 in platinum and silver. Food for thought!
      What is Vt gold btw?

    • @GramCanyonSam
      @GramCanyonSam 6 років тому

      Stu JD 23.5 in VT. The Cali gold was 16 to 22 depending on the part of the state.

    How handy are sticks? Haha. :) Hey, love your vids. Have just discovered you. Maybe I haven't found the right vid yet, but what do you do with all your gold? Do you sell it with cold, mercenary relish? Do you have a collection of favourite nuggets? Do you sleep, curled up on a mountain of gold, a la Smaug?

    Yeah it not a lot in cash value but it is possibly enough to cover your expenses, plus you get some exercise, some fresh air , your outside and you manage to relax in a nice environment.
    So for anybody saying it’s only $21 worth I’d say it’s worth way more than that.

    Maybe it’s just me, but I always look at it in the $$$ sense. In my areas the bedrock is really difficult to get to so I figure my numbers as grams per ton of material, classified or not depends on what equipment I can bring.

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому +1

      OffGrid OverLander that's actually similar to how it was worked out in the 1800s

      Vo-Gus Prospecting one of the places I discovered while out on one of my last trips was a really old mine, probably 50-100 years old. Looks like they were mining limonite out of the mountain and the unprocessed material left at the mouth of the mine looks like it had about 200 mesh gold, but I still have to verify so I know for sure before I go back. Ironically, I was actually looking for a current claim through a membership I have, when I stumbled upon the mine.

    I am in NSW i am working in the gold fields area.
    I am new to wanting to try prospecting but i am unsure of the laws. There is lots of old mines everywhere but i think big mining companys have rights to the areas where all the old gold mines are. the rest of the areas are mostly private property.
    How do i find places i can prospect for gold? what sort of permits do i need. i have found info on fossicking in state forests and paying permits but nothing for other places. how do i sell it if i was to find some.
    If gold was found and a company has rights to that land is the gold worthless how is it checked?
    If i find rocks with gold specs can i take some home to crush and pan or chip rock from old gold mines? My mate has a property close to the large copper/gold mine are we allowed to dig and disturb ground. crush rocks on private land? Does anyone experienced want to help me understand some things please

    Once you've "found it" wouldn't it be better to set up a sluice of some kind instead of panning a few shovels-full at a time? (Lots more efficient productivity and money wise)

    • @VoGusProspecting
      @VoGusProspecting  6 років тому +1

      If you're chasing money, 100% yes. You must factor in running costs such as petrol but on the whole its worth it.
      I however do not do this for the money, if you have been following me for a while you may have seen my videos on Mental Illness awareness. I have PTSD and this is the reason I prospect.

    An old timer making a living mining gold told me that only 1 in 200 just make a living at gold mining the rest go broke . Also said you better be a mechanic and your first priority is pay your diesel bill . Gold mining I found out the hard way is no different from a skilled trade and it takes years to learn to do it right. On the NSR a 150- 200 colors to the pan will get you about a gram from a yard of gravel about a days work
