I served on an aircraft carrier for six months in the Adriatic Sea, during the Bosnian war. My whole 5 years in the Navy was a gross waste of my life, that I look back on with shame. Like most of the people I met during that time, I was from a broken home, and thought I had no value and no place left to go. Its a very sobering thing, to realise that the people who die in war aren’t really mature adults with purpose, but mostly vulnerable young people, just searching for a home. The video brought back some very sad memories. Songs great though. 👍

Such a perfect and smooth song to listen to, either when you are broken-hearted or to express the need for reassurance in a relationship. Also loving the ethnic shades in the melody.
I remember the first time I heard this song, the first time I saw this music video. I was like 12 or 13 inside my makeshift room, we had a Sharp CATV which was a CRT. It was like 12mn or 1AM when this came on MTV (ch. 41) and oh boy. I had that indescribable mixed feeling of sadness and happiness. Sad because I thought the song tackles lonliness (due to the title, and music video subtitles towards the end,) and happy because I discovered something new, I felt alive and content for that short moment of my teenage life 😊 From then on I kept on humming the melody coz I didn't know any basic English back then 😅 had no idea of the lyrics, internet wasn't that popular in my area and I only got to hear this song when someone from the network "decided" to play it. Now almost 20 years later, I still consider it a gem and I still relate to this song and music video, it has a special place in my being, a part of my psyche. Kudos to the crew, people, minds behind this. Damon, your voice is haunting and I like it. Very much. Very much.
This was the song when I've seen the ocean for the first time in my life. It was also the first time I listened to Blur. Since this moment it became one of my favorite bands.
This was a discovery channel documentary. I saw it and then heard the song and then saw this video by blur and thought that putting the two together was genius. Love blur.
I read this, and the same situation happened to me, long distance, the love was pure but the distance was too much in this short life. And here we both are, having Blur get us through our problems.
This song become my memento, becoming my "rest area" in my life journey.. When its too overwhaleming, in my sadness, or in my happiness, and my sorrow...

Only heard this a couple of years ago never much of a blur fan but I rate this as a song that raises spirits and really makes you take a long hard look about what is going on all around you and think.
Love the mood this song evokes. Trying to hold on to whats important while being swept away in an inevitable and necessary tide of confusion and fear. Born at wrong time? Where is the love song? Damn right.
To me this song represents my problem with loneliness often times I feel so out of place in the world. The same people who will call me a friend one day are the same who will shun me the next. It leaves me in a position where I can't tell who's my real friend and who's not. It leaves me in a spot where I feel that I'm better off alone.
+paranoid android56 Blur are brilliant, one of my favourite bands ever!!, don't forget to listen their bsides!!amazing band, so underrated because a lot of people only know about the most famous tracks but they have hidden gems

@@Kelly14UK Sorry for late reply but damn that song is great, thanks for reminding me...but it makes me further wonder to what extent a band just kind of unconsciously channels another band via osmosis- or gets in a huddle with the producer and collectively decides: "Guys, let's sound like heads Radio and Portis on this one". Kind of jars with one's notions of originality, but it's no bad thing if it's executed as well as this.

@@howiseeit5326 hahaha i love this response
this was the most incredible music video i'd seen that year. i remembered seeing the documentary, and thought that was a particularly sad situation the grl was in, and as soon as i saw they'd used that doc in particularly that section i gave them a little round of applause on my own. i think i was in hmv at the time, people must've thought i was a nutter. perfect anti war message and footage right there, perfect!
One of the most beautiful songs I' ve ever heard.. No words❤️
i am just crying...great band
Oasis : i'm outta time
Blur : Out of time
this song deserves far more credit
Only heard this a couple of years ago never much of a blur fan but I rate this as a song that raises spirits and really makes you take a long hard look about what is going on all around you and think.
I think it is a very spiritual song which grabs you in an understated way as opposed to say, Tender.
That woman’s face is now inseparable from this Blur track whenever I hear it, and it’s STILL in constant rotation.
Damon eres el más grande compositor de estos tiempos, cada día te vuelves insuperable
the oriental strings are a genius touch to set the mood
I'm new to blur and it only took about a week and I think it could be my new favourite band. The thing is, the same is happening with Gorillaz.
+paranoid android56 Blur are brilliant, one of my favourite bands ever!!, don't forget to listen their bsides!!amazing band, so underrated because a lot of people only know about the most famous tracks but they have hidden gems
+paranoid android56 easy fix: both include Damon Albarn as lead vocal, therefore he may as well be your new favourite singer
+Chirstina Silver hue hue hue no Thom Yorke is my favorite singer, but Damon Albarn is a close second.
yeah blur are just fantastic, but radiohead are radiohead. Kid a is a masterpiece man:D
Check out super furry animals, ul love them too
I periodically come here to hear this song. Don't know why, but there are moments when I need it.
Never more relevant than this day, even more so tomorrow but with more resonance. Love x
This video was released by the time I was getting into Blur, and I still remember the pleasing feeling of seeing that face in the intro every time my music channel would be show it, which was very often. Good times.
This song is that good that I've always thought it lasted for two / two and a half minutes but actually is 4 minutes long !
The last few seconds of this song are magic
Im a man and im not ashamed to say this tune always makes me cry
Suelo despertar por las mañanas con esta canción en la cabeza, la mejor manera de comenzar un día.
This is the most Radiohead I've ever known Blur.
I like a mental song called 1992 on 13.
Radiohead boring
@@Kelly14UK Sorry for late reply but damn that song is great, thanks for reminding me...but it makes me further wonder to what extent a band just kind of unconsciously channels another band via osmosis- or gets in a huddle with the producer and collectively decides: "Guys, let's sound like heads Radio and Portis on this one".
Kind of jars with one's notions of originality, but it's no bad thing if it's executed as well as this.
@@acc1541 each to their orangutan I guess
@@thetrickisirarelyrespond5945 indeed
One of Blurs best singles for sure and only the 3 in the band
0:25 - 0:30 best part of this music video :)
I was so happy
The guitar is so mellow, and so heartwarming and the lyrics are as beautiful as a dying rose 🥀
