the song overall is just late 90's - early 2000's nostalgia. The last bit of alternative music to live. A slow mellow tune with a hopeful truthful breeze to a great sadness. Music was so much better back then....

I'm at that point now where you were 3 years ago all because of a woman that I'm deeply and dearly in love with that is 5,000 miles away from me in the little country of Romania. She knows exactly how much that I'm in love with her and I know the love she has for me. The love that every human being dreams of. Her circumstances of her life continues to draw her away from me just as my very own circumstances draw me away from her. She's a supermodel to 300,000 men all around this world who have so much to offer her then I do financially. I have this deep gut feeling that she will eventually leave me high and dry one day. My gut feelings always become reality and so afraid this gut feeling I've been having about her will become true too one day too and I'm sinking into the deepest darkness depression of my life. She is becoming someone that she is not over in her country. If my gut feeling becomes a real and true reality I will not want to continue my life without her 💔 this is my song about her & I
You listen to this song your whole life and then suddenly you’re 28 and you realize you’ve turned into the kind of person that the lyrics describe. And it hurts in a very peculiar way
Having turned 28 on 12/17 a few days ago and have heard the song throughout my life especially during the late 90s. As a young kid listening to bands like the Doors, Jimi Hendrix, and Pink Floyd in the backseat of Dad's Lincoln town car We would visit my grandpa in Redford Michigan every summer I'd stay and spend time over there. (I loved not wearing a seatbelt, Dad would fly down I96 back towards the Ambassador bridge from Wayne county and I'd be laughing and smiling all the way as we ripped at speeds of 150mph with the music cranked "Welcome to the Machine" batting out from the vehicle. In Leamington, We would go to the beach and frequent our swimming spot daily. And bands like Vertical Horizon and Nirvana, Radio Head Oasis would always be playing on the radio. There's a certain nostalgia that comes to mind from that period in my life even so later in my senior years in high school after meeting my high school sweetheart, now separated kids mother. Losing a dear best friend from a terrible canoe accident. We eventually grew apart once our friend passed and thus the trials and subtle beauty in moments we shared could and would make a great movie on young teenage angst and love and loss and the power of overcoming difficult hardships to come full circle after years of silence. Great song and great music move spirit to other dimensions and places beyond the practical world we live in. Thanks and Cheers.
This song makes me cry so hard right now. We had to put my German shepherd down yesterday. She was 13. Luckily she died peacefully, but it's still really hard.
Two jumps in a week I bet you think that's pretty clever, don't you, boy? Flying on your motorcycle Watching all the ground beneath you drop You'd kill yourself for recognition Kill yourself to never, ever stop You broke another mirror You're turning into something you are not Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry Drying up in conversation You will be the one who cannot talk All your insides fall to pieces You just sit there wishing you could still make love They're the ones who'll hate you When you think you've got the world all sussed out They're the ones who'll spit at you You will be the one screaming out Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry Oh, it's the best thing that you've ever had The best thing you've ever, ever had It's the best thing that you've ever had The best thing you have had is gone away So don't leave me high Don't leave me dry Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry Don't leave me high Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry
I was just thinking about the level of ability it takes to play the intro up at the 11th fret and the slides etc, vs that solo LOL. I never got to see them live but did he ever let loose a little more on that part I wonder??
[Verse 1] Two jumps in a week, I bet you Think that's pretty clever, don't you, boy Flying on your motorcycle Watching all the ground beneath you drop You'd kill yourself for recognition Kill yourself to never, ever stop You broke another mirror You're turning into something you are not [Chorus] Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry [Verse 2] Drying up in conversation You will be the one who cannot talk All your insides fall to pieces You just sit there wishing you could still make love They're the ones who'll hate you When you think you've got the world all sussed out They're the ones who'll spit at you You will be the one screaming out [Chorus] Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry [Guitar Solo] [Bridge] Oh, it's the best thing that you've ever had The best thing that you've ever, ever had It's the best thing that you've ever had The best thing you've had has gone away [Chorus] So don't leave me high Don't leave me dry Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry Don't leave me high Don't leave me high Don't leave me dry
This song could be a chilling warning against me. Thing is, I understood the meaning of the song for a while, and then I still made the same mistakes. And I did lose the best thing I ever had.
I was in my early 20s when this song came out. Years before I went to a concert where REM were performing, the Radiohead was the opening band and I was blown away. At that time I was an university student with many dreams in the drawer, along with some CDs and those stupid and useless things that we usually put in them. I was studying Medicine hoping to replenish that bag full of expectations that my parents (all doctors in the family) had but I was often restless and distracted. I remember the scent of the women I was with, that of the weed I used sometimes to smoke, the noise of street vendors and the news talking about the many deaths because of the MAFIA. The 90s were really hard for us Sicilians and still are. Today I am 47 years old, I lived in different countries in Europe and not only, I am not a doctor (I decided to quit 😊) and today I work as a manager in the IT world. I am since years with a woman who looks like a gift from heaven and in a few days I will be a father of a boy whose name will be that of my father to whom I owe, despite the disappointments given, everything and who never left me alone in my path . I hope I can teach my son how important music is in our life, because it not only fills the soul but it has that magical power to make you travel back and relive everything with open eyes. Radiohead is and always will be my favorite band and when I listen to a song like this I turn twenty and suddenly a smile mix of sweetness, sadness and joy colors my face (sorry for my English :D )
I’ve always loved this song, but when my husband passed away two months ago, the line “It’s the best thing that you ever had, the best thing that you ever ever had, the best thing that you ever had, the best thing that you had has gone away“ took on a whole new meaning. 😪
I remember being 13 getting my heart broken for the first time. Crying my eyes out to this song on repeat literally sobbing. Now the years that have followed I listen to this song with a smile and happiness in my soul. This is one of my all time favorite songs. Funny how music does that.
Nostalgia....it's the place between happiness and sadness....the memories make you happy.....but that fact that you will never get those moments back causes sorrow.....but......it feels good.....it just feels.
i am deep diving today in music .. going into places that have been locked away in my heart for years, decades some of them. So much power. We are all water and energy - quickest way to touch the most sensitive places in our soul is with music
it was a stroke of genius to begin the song with the drums. the rest of the song just unfolds itself in a beautiful cornucopia of delicately placed notes and lyrics. God Bless Thom and Co.
Listening to Radiohead is like opening up your refrigerator in the morning looking at empty milk carton when you already have a bowl of cereal ready. You are still drowzy from just getting out of bed. Kind of feeling.
It's difficult to find proper words to describe the magic of this song. I heard it in a passing back in early 2000s. Yes, only 2000s, because I grew up in Eastern Europe, didn't have internet, you could find maybe one or two copies of The Bends in your city, which cost 10% of mom's monthly salary. Good music wasn't something you could easily have. Pirated CDs everywhere, but they didn't even pirate Radiohead. And then you hear this masterpiece. It's so special, it's so beautiful. Still is, after all this time :)
10 yrs ago I learned to sing and play this song on guitar. Once I had learned it, my wife at the time left me and divorced me. For years I couldn’t listen to this song again without feeling sick. At the time, she was “the best thing I’d ever had”.

"High and Dry" by Radiohead is a timeless masterpiece that effortlessly combines poignant lyrics with haunting melodies. The song's emotive depth and Thom Yorke's soul-stirring vocals create an ethereal atmosphere that resonates deeply with listeners. The juxtaposition of vulnerability and strength portrayed in the lyrics, coupled with the intricate instrumentation, captures the essence of introspection and longing. It's a track that stands the test of time, inviting listeners to delve into its layers of meaning with each listen. Truly, "High and Dry" is a testament to Radiohead's unparalleled ability to craft music that transcends genres and leaves a lasting impact on the hearts of listeners worldwide.
Still have days I can often not get this out of my head all day, to this day. Thank you for the music. Classical Music (Contemporary) My contemporary favourite writer and composer

The rapture is imminent , it could happen any moment . The bible has no lies it is the full and only word of God . Jesus Christ is the truth, the way the life ,and the light when the rapture will happen , Hundreds of millions of young children and Born again Christians will disappear in the twinkling of an eye . Mass disappearance, and will the left behind people believe Satan who will make the world tell you it was an alien invasion or some other lie or will you believe the truth which is that Born again Christians and young children under the age of accountability have all disappeared off the face of the earth from this life into next (heaven) to forever be with our Lord God and Saviour , Yeshua Hamashiach ( Jesus Christ) God the son , at the right hand of God the father , God the Holy Spirit (the restrainer mentioned in the bible ) will take us away from earth to heaven like an elevator . We worship One God. One lord , one diety. One triune God, father son and Holy Spirit . Jesus Christ is the only mediator between man and God , salvation happens as follows . Faith in Jesus Christ(the gospel , 1 Corinthians 15:1-4, John 3:16, Romans 3:23, etc) -Recieve the Holy Spirit, eternal life forgiveness of sins by Jesus Christ blood by faith alone not by our righteousness or good deeds , -Holy Spirit within us is sealed our salvation can not be lost - when we die or a raptured we do not die in our sins . They are covered by Jesus Christ blood since we had faith in Jesus Christ /the gospel. Those who don’t have faith in Jesus Christ will come before God , and every single thought(sinful or not), word (sinful or not) action(sinful or not ) imagination (sinful or not ) intention(sinful or not ) every moment in their life will come before them and God , God will show them the truth , who he is what they did wrong and what they could’ve done . There will be no excuse , Those heading to hell rejected God by not having faith in Jesus Christ . You cannot have God if you don’t first have faith in Jesus Christ .
When I listen to this song from start to finish it feels like the moment you see your love for the first time and the feeling of losing your love all at the same time

I'd be honored if some Radiohead/90s fans would check out my acoustic piano & vocal covers of HIGH & DRY and BITTERSWEET SYMPHONY by the Verve on my channel. Live acoustic with no digital editing. I just started listening to radio a few days ago, after years of doubt! And OH MY GOD! Why the hell haven’t I listened to them sooner? I feel like there was a whole in my heart, but their music has filled it!
Me too, and all these years later and it's 2018 and all I've been listening to for a month is Radiohead's earlier albums, "The Bends", "OK Computer" and "Pablo Honey" for me, they rank up there with the Beatles!
I don't know what it is about this song, but I've been listening to it for about 10 years and still can't get over it. It just feels like... feelgoodnostalgia. idk how to explain it, but gems which provoke emotions like this are SO rare to find.
Oh how I Love this Song. I remember listening to this Masterpiece and I still get that Nostalgic feeling. I do get a little sad but it still resonates within my Soul. I'm so happy that these songs are still here so I can listen to them whenever I want to. The feelings i get from listening to this Masterpiece are a little melancholy. I listen and reflect on so many things. That's why I love songs like these because they make you think. Radiohead is and will always be a beautiful band.❤❤
You know the feeling when you have always been trying to satisfy both yourself and others with conflicting interests, and somehow you end up in the middle, disappointing both sides and wasting your time and energy simply to keep yourself and them from doing anything drastic/ out of your control? Thats what this song brings to mind for me. Stuck in a strange stasis where no one is fulfilled and everyone is disappointed, but you don't dare change anything for fear that something will get out of your control, out of hand. Not a great life to live.
You ever listen to a song that reminds you of a certain time in your life? This song will always remind me of my ex-boyfriend's suicide. I talked to him 30 minutes before he did it. Still love & miss you, Aaron Hooper. ♡ You will be in much heart forever. Rest in peace.
@@jackknife5062 please don't go assuming things about other people's lifes. That's rude. There are more reasons to why someone would do something like this, they could've been struggling for a really long time: it isn't just a random thing, it's a long-time thought that doesn't leave the mind of those who suffer.
@@jackknife5062 I suffer from depression and I have for a very long 13 years now, and I can SWEAR to you, there are plenty of suicides which are not caused because of those reasons, it would be nice if you didn't talk about something like that if you haven't been close to such experience in any way.
One of those song I’d heard in college, like it without knowing who it was. Then a few years later I got into Radiohead, picked up the Bends, and finally realized it was their song. Brilliant band, classic album.

You ever wonder if songs like this would have anywhere near the same impact if they were released today? Like if this exact song was released tomorrow, would people even notice? Or would it just exist, maybe a couple hundred views but never reaching the height it deserves? ...well that's my weekly existential crisis, join me next time when I get super depressed over my ex even though we broke up 2 years ago!
So beautiful songs, It’s a pity that I only learned it from Sonmyn from Stray Kids, the cover is as beautiful as the original, I will continue to listen to this song, I really liked it

last year i used to listen a lot to this song sitting on the school bathrooms floor while reading some erich fromm book, trying to get something out of all the chaos i was goinf through, willing to meet my "new friends" in the hallways, maybe rescuing the heart of the boy i wanted so bad to be mine. without realizing how come i would love so much this song. Or howcome i would want to pass my time with such people. Nowadays i know i loved this song because a part of me felt like i was loosing, leaving it behind, the best thing ive ever had. And it hurts in a very peculiar way
Are you paralyzed? Then you haven't become that person. Rejoice!
@HumanPerson o
And you are still young and can do something about it.

That solo gets me everytime
Just to prove that the simplest solo is sometimes better
Neil Young would help validate this argument
me: mom, can we have Justin Y?
mom: we have Justin Y at home
the Justin Y at home:
Radio head is the best 🤘 but you must hear “Winding Road” by SLT 🔥🎸🎧
Tell that to Neil Young
I was just thinking about the level of ability it takes to play the intro up at the 11th fret and the slides etc, vs that solo LOL. I never got to see them live but did he ever let loose a little more on that part I wonder??

Why is it controversial?
Totally love the acoustic guitar rhythm on that one. And of course the nostalgia of driving around listening to the CD back in the day -- that too.
I was a radio DJ in the far east for 13 years. This was my last song on Dec. 30, 2004
Radiohead is and always will be my favorite band and when I listen to a song like this I turn twenty and suddenly a smile mix of sweetness, sadness and joy colors my face (sorry for my English :D )
thanks for sharing.
good luck man!
Beautiful story, just one thing, do you still smoke 😊.

Beautiful. I could picture those scenes, some in abstraction like a 90’s music video. Expressed beautifully.

Listening to Radiohead is like opening up your refrigerator in the morning looking at empty milk carton when you already have a bowl of cereal ready. You are still drowzy from just getting out of bed. Kind of feeling.
On an overcast day.
and you knew the milk carton was empty.
What kind of animal are you, leaving the milk carton in there like that?
@@JukesMcGee 😋
people are still eating bowls of cereal in the morning?? I thought that went out of style when the 90s ended.

That's sometimes the hardest thing about music. When you love a song or an album, but can't bring yourself to listen to it any more.
That’s really sad. Know exactly what you mean to an extent.

You know the feeling when you have always been trying to satisfy both yourself and others with conflicting interests, and somehow you end up in the middle, disappointing both sides and wasting your time and energy simply to keep yourself and them from doing anything drastic/ out of your control?
