The Mamba, unlike the Fer-de-Rarri, manages to emulate the most annoying dilemma only shared by everything on a large pad: "what the hell do I put on these small hardpoints?"
Corrosive multicannon is always a great thing to put on a dump slot. Doubt anyone would say no to 20 more points of armour piercing. Effect doesn't stack but it gives you something to put in one of the small slots. Cytoscrambler is a fixed small burst laser(from powerplay) that gets a huge boost in shield shredding capability in exchange for being completely useless against hulls.
I really love that you dive deep into lore before reviews. I really love it with this ship review series you’re doing. Nothing beats knowing your favorite ships’ lore
the best use of this ship is signal source hunting. you can scan wakes, collect materials, repair and refuel ships, if pirates are there you can fly away so fast they can just send you messages about how they would blow you up if they could still see you on their instruments. its relaxing game play for me. I never have a destination in mind so its jump range means nothing. so I often find things to explore. I dont like to "sleep" in space so this also leads me to dock at stations I would not usually visit, especially stations on planets. I used to take screen shots of the names of all these bases I normally never would see. I can also land on fleet carriers and part of me wonders "will I still be in the same place when I come back?"
The mamba is a stunning ship. I do like having all hard points on top of ship. Unleash all hard points as you pass below the bounty you’re hunting, flip and repeat. Embrace the jousting! Also I enjoy popping to a station in a hauler (taxi), picking up a few bounties, sit in bar as I await arrival of my Mamba. Then enjoy the hunt. Nice element of role play.
It definitely makes up for the weak fsd by pretty much not overheating near stars. 3A fuel scoop and you can go to the literal end of the universe with it rather quickly, without ever needing to worry about refueling, and carrying too little firepower at the same time.
Great video, I agree the Mamba is a very good looking ship and you get what you see, a cockpit between two engines and some big guns strapped to it :D I would like to see the clipper in one of the next videos, she is an interesting and beatiful ship!
Oooh Clipper is a good shout - would stage the path to the Cutter as well (I have one, but feel that it's best to get the small and medium faction locked ships out the way first).
I only played a little bit of Elite Dangerous a year or two ago, but I fell in love with the Mamba from the moment I saw it. An absolutely stunning ship and I spent quite a bit of my playtime with my friends at the time working up the cash to buy myself one and I gotta say... It's a joy to fly one of these, numbers be damned.
Easily one of the best looking ships in the galaxy and has the power to go with it. Just a pity it doesn't handle better though. Guessing the Cobra MK4 is the reason you have *almost* every ship?
our beloved ax support ship private session of 10 to 12 friends and this ship with some healy lasers and repair limpets someone got the genious idea of using the mamba and dam its cool as that
I have been toying with the thought to pick one up for a while, but I can't quite summon the energy to pull the trigger. I think you conclude that it is best for combat, but perhaps isn't very good at it. I rarely break out the FDL. My go to for combat is the Python and if it is too hot a location, the Corvette. I do like dropping down to the smaller ships, if in a wing and I am not relying on my fire power alone to bring the beast down. I had surprising fun with a Fed Gun Ship as my last purchase, so I might be surprised.
It's not that it's "bad" at combat - it can be made to be excellent at killing things. But it's a lot of work to get there compared to other ships, and even so the handling is still not great after. Can't remember which "officially" has better manouverabilty stats, but in some respects the Corvette does feel more pliable. Even if it lacks the immense speed that the Mamba can put out
@@gamingsnipsandbits Yeah, perhaps not the worst ship in the game but to a degree a pointless one. Feel sad for the Asp Scout. It isn't the worst ship in the game at all. It is the absolute best ship in the game for the one task of High Grade Emission farming.
I have a Mamba outfitted with all frag cannons and I love it. It’s such a blast to boost at targets, unleash hell, and then boost around to do it all over again. I’d highly recommend it if you’re ever serious about a mamba build.
The Mamba has it where it counts, as long as what counts is looking absolutely stunning. IMHO, it's hands down the most beautiful ship out there. If it had better maneuverability I'd use it for bounty hunting, but since staying alive is more important to me than leaving behind a stylish corpse, I stick with my FDL. It's a shame that it's not even the best racer out there. I've got a Viper that'll leave it in the dust on a straight line, and a canyon racing Eagle that's at least as fast as the Mamba but can turn on a dime.
I wonder if the Mamba's maneuverability is really a problem. From looking at it, the Mamba seems like it can pull lead better that the FDL. considering the weapon mounts. The Mamba has all of its guns on top all upward mounted while the FDL has 4 class 2 weapons on the sides with possibly bad firing angles and the FDL has its class 4 gun on the bottom which means you have to pull lead really hard to make use of it, unless you have a laser which should not be too hard. I don't really disagree with the overall assessment, FDL is more suited for a fighter role while the Mamba can be classified as an interceptor.
@@Soundwave142 I have to retract at least some of my comment. I just built a Titan bomber Mamba, and I'm finding that I rather like it. I can't make a comparison with the FDL yet, but I have to admit that the Mamba handles better than I'd expected. And it's still absolutely gorgeous.
Mamba is my combat zone ship of choice. Huge cannon on top, the rest frags. It has teeth for human interlopers and shreds npc ships, and looks good doing it. And it's fast enough of course, to engage in the better part of valor. :)
I really want to grab a Mamba when I can but I'm working from a fresh save so having to rebuild. I'm attempting this exobiology stuff at the moment for some "quick" cash but honestly not seeing the return people keep talking about.
I love everything about this ship - except the turning rate. Even fully engineered, it doesn't hold a candle to a fully engineered Krait MkII. It's really pretty and fast though with an immersion breaking huge weapon that apparently shoots through your cockpit when fire downward.
Both good shouts - Phantom is my go-to explorer, so probably already have some decent footage too. Think I've got some unused footage from the DBX kicking around too
It's one of the ships where the name was extracted from the game files around the time Odyssey was released - there's absolutely sod all information about it though, aside from the name - but with 4 new ships coming it's hopefully a possibility (although I'd like at least one more ship built from the ground up)
Give it a whirl if you've got an account - it's not the newest game in the world, but there's still plenty of space to explore, and drops of new content (depending when you left)
Mamaba and FDL have the same damage output, weapon sizes dont double in damge output each time they get larger, but just mulitply by the factor of the weapon size, so a size 1 is 25% of a size 4, a 2 is 50% the damage of a size 4, a size 3 is 75% of a size 4....to make it simple just add the numbers up on the sizes of a ship, in this case they both equal 12
Any hardpoint is 1.5 times the DPS of an identical weapon the size below it (except missiles). Easier to math things out that way. The Mamba actually has a slight DPS advantage over the FDL. Using g5 OC fixed pulses as an example, the FDL has a DPS of 127.9 while the Mamba has a DPS of 134.2. It's less than a c1 hard point, but it's an advantage. You can put this into Coriolis if you don't believe me. If anything, the fact that the Mamba's c1s have less pierce than the FDL's c2s, but the FDL lacks the pierce of the c3s, might mean that they're theoretically more effective against different ships in some _very_ niche matchups.
@Majima_Nowhere no the easiest way to do the maths is just add the weapon size of each ship against another ship, as I explained above, no need to over complcate what is a pretty easy way to compare ships fire power, and the Mamba and FDL are the same, yes i know you can come with slightly different DPS values depending different weapons loudouts but they difference is so negible, biggest problem with the Mamba is simply the size 3 are that far apart you can't put fixed weapons on them so your forced to use gimbaled weapons which is obviously not preferable and cuts down your options...which is why the FDL is by far the most popular PVP ship in the game not the Mamba
Putting the script together for this one at the moment, whilst working on getting the Alliance Crusader video out - so it won't be the next one, but it'll almost definitely be the one after :)
