- After the announcement of Kanye West's "Yeezy Gap" in 2020 the progression of the collaboration has been slow until Demna Gvasalia & Balenciaga came in to save the day, helping to engineer a collection and help with the sampling process. I think there is an issue with connections between the brands(Gap/Yzy/Bal) and their customers. The YZY gap products connect to standard gap products with reworked cuts and a slight price increase. The Balenciaga stuff is a whole different customer/price range with no connection to standard Gap products.
Joining basic (GAP)with street (YZY)is an easy step, High St basics with an avant-garde fashion house, not so easy. The Demna fans and hypebeasts will not start buying standard Gap and the Gap shoppers are not buying YZY/Bal products.
The difficulty from a business perspective will be to find the balance, so that a more modern YZY design language can filter down and update Gap, and in turn Gap can influence the price and availability of stylish street wear basics.
Other wise Gap will continue to wither away and we will end up with just YZY.

I agree. The ones interested in YZYGAP by Balenciaga (like myself) aren’t really interested in standard GAP products, other than maybe some cheap comfy sweats to wear around the house.
The leaked fittings of the original YZY GAP (no Balenciaga) is almost perfect for what you’re describing. It’s modern and fresh, and can easily trickle down into the standard GAP designs.
@@mikesilverii7535 the way i see it just having Balenciaga associated to GAP in any way helps bring a certain shine/cool factor that they desperately need. Also, if GAP wants to stand a chance they're going to have to cater to a new audience, one that is willing to spend $200+ on some hoodies, along with their more affordable product.

You will never turn Gap into a $280 hoodie Balenciaga diffusion line.
They can bring all that 90s fashion back, it’s actually very easy.. they need proper marketing, literally talk to top influencers.. it’s so easy.. they don’t understand social media I guess.
No one wants that, Ye don’t want it. It’s the future we need future clothing, not to go back in time

I've always liked the gap I stopped wearing they're stuff as they're quality dipped recently they've been putting stuff with better materials recently and ive been wearing a yzy hat from them every day and I really like the direction they're going in.
and I'm really looking forward to getting a dapper dan hoodie from them I'm a bit upset how the collaboration went with Telfer Clemmons

I'm glad Kanye's dream of designing at an affordable price-point is coming true. Back in the day, he said he really wanted his sneakers to actually be sold in Payless stores(before it closed obvi).

I feel like GAP has been ready for a revival for quite some time, because the hate for GAP has slowed over the last couple years now feels like the right time for them to return. HOWEVER, I don't necessarily think it was only becuase of Ye. If they had gone through with the Telfar collection that they had previously announced (and didn't screw over Clemens on the way) I think it would've done probably better due to Telfar's brand positioning. Although I think it may have killed the Telfar label from oversaturation, to be honest, it definitely wouldve revived GAP as the brand we know. The Ye/Bal/Gap thing kind of repositions GAP too, which is a risk. If they cannot keep up with the new positioning and differentiate themselves from both the old GAP and from their new competitors it will fail (hence the risk). TL;DR I'm very excited to see what will become of GAP in the wake of this, I think its more of a difficult collaboration than you'd think on the surface and it could make or break the company easily
This brings Gap money, sure. But will it save Gap completely? Probably not. What happens if/when Ye leaves? The demand is for YZY GAP. Not for the ordinary Gap items. There are no YZY GAP fans that are looking at the Gap website saying, "damn this pair of slim joggers with this button-up shirt could be hard". IF Ye had creative control of the ENTIRE Gap line for menswear and if they had Mowalola for womenswear, while keeping the pricing, and making basic products that would fit more people (like shirting), that would be insane.

GAP really! GAP could've/should've kept with their original simple plan as well the quality though I realize most likely there was no real plan exactly, back in the day! However now what & why is it that anyone can think themselves a designer or for that matter a fashion stylist both take an enormous amount of passion time & work coupled with skill/talent...Let me say this just about any designer with an ounce of what it takes is usually a designer or a fashion stylist it's what one does, you'll know especially when you see their results. Money actually does buy everything real will always be real.By the way fashion is fashion for a time, trends are trends for much less time style remain forever.

The GAP stock skyrocketed just from announcing the collab. Investors are optimistic! Whatever Kanye and Demna do makes noise, so I can only see it benefiting GAP.
I’m wondering (if you haven’t done so already) if you’ll make a follow up video on this topic. I say this because due to Kanye West’s actions, things have changed big time.

Ive always thought of GAP as similar to Benetton lol. YZY Gap is a cool concept, as long as he doesn't have everyone dressing like a Dominatrix.
But if YZY is making stuff with GAP, will they be produced in mass with proper quality control and be available in stores?

I've always seen GAP as the American version of Primark, correct me if I'm wrong, but I don't recall ever seeing a hooded sweater in Primark for £200 🤔 And that corny DTG printed dove makes the piece look super low budget, which is a massive shame because everything else about the actual design is so on point, apart from that outlandishly ridiculous dove....... What were they thinking?!

i get that kanye doesn't want to flood the market with yeezy gap collabs in fear of damaging his own yeezy brand but in the same vein how will gap make much money if their just doing small runs or limited quantity with yeezy? Not many people are going to buy the standard non collab version of Gap just because of the yeezy association.
kanye actually wants the gap collab to be very available to everyone who wants it at a retail price. hes made it very clear that was his intent since the very beginning with foamrunners

Honestly, I don’t think this collab will work. They’re not bringing anything new to the table. They’re selling black t-shirts for $120. IMO, this is a money grab which will eventually fail.
They re-engineered the hoodie with new ribbing systems, neck, adding layers. The cargo are a new simplified design combining two pants. There’s a t shirt with no outside seams. A foldable cap. Futuristic bag with water resistant zip. The new sunglasses are like nothing that’s existed. Everything is literally new
