    Something I see that more successful designers have in common is that they're curious and independent. People always ask me where I learned X or where I found a plug for Y, but the successful creators around me search for those things themselves. That doesn't mean you should never ask anyone questions about anything, but researching it yourself is more beneficial than plainly getting it handed to you.

    • @ijyoyo
      @ijyoyo Рік тому +1

      I think there are some questions that are more abstract that should be asked. But if you have done your due diligence and have research and still haven't found it then you can go to someone.

    I know this is obvious but Trend forecasting is really a huge benefit, not only in creating a trend but also in fighting off one. For example, Dr Martens have been a Staple trend for a years, expanding business highly, but the product quality overall has been utter dog water. Now former Doc enthusiasts are moving over to Solovairs, who originally used to manufacture Docs. The trend has taken a toll on DrM's production quality. Thier enthusiasts no longer have a willingness to participate with the brand, endorsing a competitor that literally used to make the best version of the original products. This can too have a generational effect as enthusiasts tend to pass down to thier kids.

      the private and public versions of yourself don't have to intersect! I do think it's important to sell yourself and your ideas, as customers want to build a sense of trust with a person not a brand. However, that person doesn't have to be a version of you on full display, you can be reserved, retain some anonymity, and build a version of yourself that's communicated the brand and all your other projects 😊

    • @jessiccablessngs1536
      @jessiccablessngs1536 Рік тому +4

      I would definitely recommend learning how to sew. Designing is great , but useless when to don't have the sewing skills to bring your designs to life. It's better to make the products yourself before hiring someone else to do it for you , so that you can then be able to communicate clearly how you want you products to be made. Your'e putting yourself in hot water if you're clueless about construction techniques, especially if someone's doing the sewing for you.
      You can simply buy sewing books and pattern books/ magazines. Popular pattern companies include Vogue patterns and Burda. A popular book for making patterns from scratch is the Wilfred Aldrich book. If you want to be taught in a class , it's best to take short courses. Going to uni may teach you the basics of sewing, but you will be bombarded with other assignments so won't have much time to properly learn how to sew.

    After looking at the Shein scandal, I think designers need to make clothes that are hard to copy. Like make designs that are too complicated/ avant garde/out of trend/ almost not commercial. Becuase the designs I've seen that are copied can be made by anyone and they can be easily sought after in any fast fashion retail.

      this isnt going to work. there is one thing we are actually ignorant about which is Branding. The branding is actually the best thing to focus on. know your audience and master your branding because at the end of the day people are buying a brand. since you mention that anyone can copy the work, it is hard to copy personality and thats what branding can do.

    “There is no point in putting all your energy in being the best tailor in the world. cuz if people don’t know who you are, it’s really irrelevant” We should NOT base the succes of an artist on other people…. succes had nothing to do with the amount of instagram followers you have. lol

    • @FashionRoadman
      @FashionRoadman  3 роки тому +20

      It’s about having an audience. That doesn’t necessarily have anything to do with followers on any platform. All the “great” designers you know are because they had an audience. There are definitely designers in history that could have been more skilled than the likes of a Dior or a Balenciaga but because no one knew who they were their work will never been seen.
      So no, there’s no point putting all your energy in being the best tailor in the world. It’s about balance. Learn about tailoring, pattern making, sewing etc as you also learn about marketing, brand development, business etc
      People like to have this ideological view on life that doesn’t work in reality because every “successful” artist you know has an audience. In art and fashion we need to stop glorifying the archetype of the amazing starving artist because anyone that is great at anything can always find an audience of people that will appreciate their skill.

Can I just continue to give out my clothes free to celebrities, for showcase and exposure? I really don't understand the business side of knowing what to do. But the skillsets are there.
