    Like you said, Demna was a huge fan of Martine even before he started Vetements and he said he was directly inspired by her for the label, he even got to meet her before he started Vetements, so him taking her to Balenciaga was like him paying it forwards. I think he respects her as the originator of the modernisation of menswear as fashion, but yeah, like you said, she didnt see any real finances until after he work was widely credited to Demna, which is a shame rly, but I like she is getting her flowers a bit now with the Louis Vuitton rumours

      @@FashionRoadman I could see her or Grace getting it. Martine coould continue with what theyre doing profitably now, whereas I think Grace will be a huge shake up to her aesthetic, and I think it'll be really exciting (I don't thik telfar will tak eit because hes been so much about making his product afforable)

    I feel like Martine Rose’s work has that level of oddity and humor that would be applied to LV menswear and balenciaga and prior to vetements. Reworking menswear to make it imaginative and interesting with an edge takes a lot more work than with womenswear because most men are still not to apt to show a lot of skin as a cop out, and shout out to black women in fashion ✨

    Wow, thank you for this video! My jaw has dropped. The fact that a Black woman (mixed but nonetheless Black) has been like the template of menswear this whole time is WILD but unsurprising. I think this also plays a large role in why she wasn’t rated the same as others. Definitely could see her at LV.

    THIS IS IMPORTANT!! Crazy that I never knew any of this, and although I’m late, I’ve been a fan of Martine since early 2018, and even own a couple very nice pieces (she’s in my current top 5)…I really believed that Demna was the originator of the boxy oversized aesthetic…glad to see that he reached back to help who inspired him, which lead to the true birth of Rose’s career…I hate to think like this, but it makes me question: is the industry that racist to a point where they show a lack of acknowledgment to talented black designers, or is the industry such a hack that your own originality can seem like your tagging along to a trend you created….regardless, I’m glad she is finally getting her shine and doing what she loves to do…a true testament and inspiration for me to stick to my dream

    • @FashionRoadman

    The rave footage shown at the beginning looks like a scene from the Dutch Gabber scene in the 90s. It looks like a similar scene is slowly starting to pop up in London at the moment. The music is slightly different but it has the same counter cultural energy about it.

    I loooooove Martine Rose. I love her sense of humour. Fashion East is so crucial. It’s bizarre that somewhere as overwhelmingly important in menswear history is hostile I guess to menswear fashions in now times. I’m glad so many menswear designers show on regular LFW schedules now. Whether one attends or not, their work gets online immediately to be seen. Even with its menswear history and strict Savile Row traditions holding sway in place areas, London shows more than any other fashion week city that gender is a construct and people just like interesting clothes. (Ik there’s also a mens LFW now too, it just seems like the best/most interesting newer designers show on the regular schedule.)

    It was interesting what you were saying about London taking so long to find a place for menswear - I feel like in the UK there’s still a culture of men not really caring about what they wear. I was in Paris recently and there were soooo many menswear boutiques, probably at least as many as womenswear. And you could just tell that men walking down the street in France put more effort into their outfits

    • @FashionRoadman
      @FashionRoadman  2 роки тому

      Totally agree, the average man in the UK really couldn't care less about how they look. They look scruffy and don't even iron their clothes. However, I do enjoy going to work and seeing people suited and booted but apart from that the range of mens fashion in London is lacking. I think Italian men are the most stylish from what i've seen.
