Cristóbal Balenciaga was “the master of us all”, in the words of another fashion icon of the era, Christian Dior. Also Coco Chanel, not very given to making friends and free praises, said he was the only authentic couturier. Unlike his contemporaries, he was able to design, cut, assemble and sew a dress from beginning to end. In his own words: “A good couturier should be: an architect for patterns, sculptor for form, painter for drawings, musician for harmony, and philosopher for measure.” summarize perfectly his vision of the trade.

The lovely way you worded your comment made me question if there is anyone like him ... he is the one and only that inspired the world!
I can tell you have a great love and deep respect for his talent /s (which are many)
I believe that there are many people out there today, capable of doing all that you mentioned “from start to finish “ but sadly, it’s a very competitive industry and very hard to break into it, it’s sad because these days to get a start in it you have to know the right people or you may never get your feet over the door! I know this happens in a lot of industries like this)especially in the arts) but in my opinion there are many , many talented people capable to do the work (every step) but never get noticed in the way they should because of the snobbery in the industry.

@@geroutathat I think people tend to overlook the overt symbolism and messaging presented in art. It can so easily be passed off as “avant garde” or exploratorily controversial that we absolve the artist of having any role in the conveyance of said messaging , and seem to “forget” that all art is made with a distinct purpose and intent, regardless of how others perceive it. We also greatly underestimate the power of art and symbolism … it may seem harmless , but imagine being in a room surrounded with dark and disturbing imagery… how does it make you feel? What does it make you think about? Already these images are affecting your mental state, your emotional state, and thought processes… what I’m saying is that all these impressions and images stay with us and have a direct affect on us. We should ask ourselves more when it comes to art. How does this make me feel? What are they trying to say? What does this imagery represent?

Lets not pretend he came from a country that tries to protect children, countries that brought in age of consent of 16/17 decades before, and never had a normal culture of children as young as 12 being married off. I mean did you know that today in Hungary the age of consent is 14? and if youre 18 you can be with children as young as 12 legally? These are the type of cultures and rich he pandered to, its like romeo and juliet.. shakespeare wanted to write them as 13 but chose 14. The average age of marriage in UK/Ireland at the time was 18-20. They had no culture of marrying young or young consent, in fact the opposite. He chose this age as it was how rich people lived, to show the crowd a glimpse inside rich life of the people who were coming over to marry their kings and queens. People would have left thinking "what stupid children, really rich people have no problems in life at all and live on a different planet to us". The planet he lived on.

in the past it was perfectly normal to have a child at the age of 12-15 since people rarely reached the age of 40,but they had functional families and they raised the childs together.

I LOOVVE the clear traditional spanish inspiration in Balenciaga's work and do wish it had a bit of a comeback. Blending the old with the new is jsut about my favorite thing ever. Thought I also love Gvasalia and the Bernie logo. That is when I really saw Balenciaga for the first time and thought it was hilarious

I think the DHL concept is respectable for the concept that people will wear any logo if it’s perceived as “high-end” but at the same time, that’s what discredits the design in my opinion. Since we know people will wear things if they’re luxury, but if your gonna design luxury, then make it original & authentic rather than a logo rip placed onto higher quality materials

I also would bet that Alexander W. was removed due to the countless allegations of S.A that have come to light.

Well Cristobal was the only couturier in his time he was able to design and produce his work. The last dress he created was a wedding gown for a Spanish princess he designed it and stitched it himself and retired for good because no one cared about craftsmanship and quality fashion and eventually died of grief. Now Demna (who’s given 14 minutes of this video when the king of haute couture himself got only 8) dissed all the history and the vision of the brand’s founder and used this position to bring out his brand and the mess he created. Worst of all when he said that his goal is to ruin fashion. I seriously cant wait for him to leave this brand alone and go back to his own brand and create the mess he wishes for his own fans and leave Balenciaga and its original clientele in peace.

In a sense, he was the last great couturier. As far as I know, at the time of his retirement, he was the only well known Designer who did not have a ready to wear line and exclusively worked made to measure. I may be wrong but I don't think there has been a house soley focused on haute couture in the truest sense of the word (made to measure, handmade in Paris) since.
