Congress Proposes $500 Million for Negative News Coverage of China The effort to counter China’s ‘malign influence’ would fund negative coverage of China’s Belt and Road Initiative-while also beefing up the U.S.’s international lending. BY LEE HARRIS FEBRUARY 9, 2022 Congress allocates $500 million for media outlets to produce journalism for overseas audiences that is critical of China. The bill would direct funding to the U.S. Agency for Global Media, a U.S.-run foreign media service, as well as local outlets and programs to train foreign journalists.
500 million dollars. That's the sum of money the US congress allocate to churn out negative news coverage on China. First reported by American Prospect on Feb. 9, the bill was stuffed into the China-centered America COMPETES Act that got passed by the US House of Representatives. A majority of the half-billion-dollar fund will go to the US Agency for Global Media (USAGM), a state-run media service that oversees Voice of America (VOA), Radio Free Europe (RFE), and Radio Free Asia (RFA), which have a record of "blurring the line between objective news coverage and pro-American propaganda," the article wrote.

Thanks for the vlog. Yes so true. I went to Beijing by myself last yr on the 144 hr transit visa. Im off to shanghai soon visa free as NZ passport holder. I first went to china in 1984 & everyone was on bicycles: there were no cars. Very 3rd world. The place i went to in china 1984 is now full of skyscrapers, massive metro tube system & electric cars. In 40 yrs 800 mil Chinese have been lifted out of poverty, GDP per capita increased from $200 to $12,000; built the best infrastructure in the world with high-speed rail network of over 40,000 km; 0% inflation. Amazing achievement. Keep up the good work 👍

We welcome friends from New Zealand to visit China.
Do you understand the current state of democratic rights and freedoms in China? Do you know that China is a one-party dictatorship and an authoritarian regime? Please correct me if I'm wrong in what I say next: China has the Great Firewall, digital currency, facial recognition, a social credit scoring system, and internet censorship and surveillance. All of these harm individual and organizational rights and freedoms and serve as tools for the state to monitor and suppress dissent. China has no opposition parties to provide checks and balances, no free media to act as a fourth estate, news is censored, information is opaque, and the Great Firewall limits people's access to outside information, restricting their connection to the world. There is no freedom of speech; basically, China enforces a one-voice policy. Isn't it true that whatever China says, people can only listen and believe? China operates on the principle of "Central media sets the tone, central media belongs to the Party, the entire country speaks in unison, and there are no other voices." Inside the Great Firewall, all media content is uniform, repetitive, and identical, isn't it? China has press bans, party bans, no right to assemble and protest, and religion is heavily restricted. There are banned books and songs, literary inquisition, and criticism of leaders is forbidden. Political matters should not be discussed recklessly, and there are restrictions on traveling abroad. CCTV is controlled by the Party and cannot freely criticize current events. The internet is monitored, and the firewall prevents people from connecting with the world. Carelessness can lead to being summoned or disappearing. Every person has an internal policeman. Does China truly have democracy, human rights, and freedom? When the CCP issues orders from the top down, the Chinese people can only listen and obey. Do the Chinese people have the right or means to say no? When the CCP goes against mainstream public opinion, is there any balancing force in China? Don't you know this? Xi Jinping amended the law to allow himself to rule for life. What can the Chinese people do? Can they do anything but offer unanimous support? What else? Whatever the leaders say and decide, the Chinese people can only listen and obey, right? Unfortunately, China has not yet given the UK the best visa-free treatment. As a Chinese, I understand that there is a reason for this. The United States is very unfriendly to China and always uses mass media to attack and slander China. Unfortunately, the British government always behaves like a follower and servant of the United States and is also very unfriendly to China, including the media. The UK even followed the United States and drove warships to China's doorstep, which made the Chinese very angry. Therefore, it is easy to understand that the UK is not given visa-free treatment for the time being.
As a trader who's been following the geopolitical situation regarding the West and China for the past 20 years, the Chinese aren't "very angry", as its been going on for quite some time already. They're open to building friendly relations with the UK, as long as the UK is up for it - which in this case, they are not. It needs to be mutually beneficial, not like what the British had done to the Chinese following the Opium War, which led to China ceding their own territories like HK for the British to colonise. @OnTourWithDridgers I'm glad you guys are challenging the decades old negative stereotypes held by many people in the West - no thanks to the mainstream media, and some other "social media" outlets who are on the payroll by certain anti-China "NGO" associations. Keep up the awesome job guys - you have my support!
Do you know how bad the process is for Chinese to get a tourist visa to the UK ??? I know several who did that last year and this and they will NEVER travel to the UK again. The UK process for Chinese is like seeking immigration. The word is out, void the UK visa go to EU instead.
@@raycomeau6866 Which is why as I said earlier, it requires UK to do their part as well.. which I hope they will... Times has changed.. let's work towards mutual respect and world peace.

U cant wake someone pretending to be asleep. US has a 1.5B budget to malign China for these haters and western media. So all are doing these best to lie.
I went to China last year. I was walking on the streets in the mid night, I felt no fear at all. Everything here is so safe. Unlike in the United States, where at night there are homeless people and addicts everywhere, and you could be robbed at any moment. In China, I truly felt a sense of real safety and genuine freedom.
homeless are no danger but harmless and marginalized people. Switch on your brain. Why do you compare to the US? Mexico and Venezuela are not safe compated to the US. I prefer living in Berlin over living in Nanjing.

Only criminals and terrorists are afraid of cameras, and their criminal behavior is afraid of being captured by surveillance cameras. Normal ordinary people would feel safer due to the ubiquitous surveillance cameras.
This is a pretty standard response to surveillance. "If you're not doing anything wrong there's no need to worry". But you don't define "wrong", the people with the cameras do.
Good to hear that you and *TwoMadExplorers* are going to spend a lot more time in China. Looking forward to it and it's the reason you have a new subscriber.
Hopefully now people realise how hard it was for foreigners going to an English speaking country. You can't speak the language, they laugh at you, make fun of your, get frustrated with you. You get judged by not knowing what and how things work there.
Thats pretty sad. But it's so true. As a kid everyone would make fun of the Asian kid that didn't speak good English. In high school it was the same. As an adult, you don't see it as much, but I would probably not stop and take the time to help someone with directions if I couldn't understand them. Sometimes you wonder what happened to us, and how did China not fail like that.
That is call RACISM. It is in their blood. That's why they colonized almost the whole world with that mindset. Having said that, I wish that Chinese were racist few hundred years ago and had invaded Australia and New Zealand before the Whites.

true, the only reason a country gives another (usually richer ones) free visa is to attract tourism. Chinese economy no longer relies heavily on tourism, so they don't have a reason to offer one-way free visa while the UK doesn't give it back

Talking about China bike sharing. In China, those bikes can just park there for days and will still be there after many days. In the west it will be gone by the night or next morning. That's why western countries can never have the share bike idea.
They tried having shared bikes in some cities in the West and found that people were MISCHIEVIOUSLY and PURPOSELY DUMPING them into rivers, streams, drains and everywhere. No respect for others - that's the problem.

Great couple, great vids! I'm a Brit from Manchester and have been living in China for the last 18 years. During those 18 years my sister in Manchester has been home-jacked twice and car-jacked three times, my mum in Stockport has been burgled once. I have never been the victim of any crime and I have never herd of anyone's house being broke into. Does China have crime? Of course, but nowhere near the scale that England does. The over-riding domestic strategy over here is 'harmonious co-existence' it sounds flowery but it basically means cohesion in society. There are propaganda signs all around that promote this (you may have seen the long red banners with white characters). The idea is that a peaceful, low crime society is a healthy one that can thrive.
Thank you mate we really appreciate it since we’ve been traveling over the last year we have been robbed in South America but never had any problems what so ever in asia and without a doubt China is the country we feel safest. Growing up In pompey on the south coast it’s a tough city full of working class people. Back when I was a teenager I got in a lot of trouble and lots of fighting. Was just a normal thing. Well said! My family moved to the States when I was young and now I am settled in the UK - I completely agree that you gotta see with your own eyes to form our own opinions and make sense of the world we live in. It always p* me off when people comment without ever visiting a place / country, are quick to judge, and disagree for the sake of it. Nowhere is perfect but if we can all learn from one another, we will all be at a much better place. I highly recommend Shanghai, Guangzhou/Shenzhen, and Chengdu, but if you want to go somewhere less known that will blow your mind (as it absolutely got everything) try my hometown DALIAN in the northeastern part of China, ideally between May to October. All the best to you both and I hope that you will continue to explore, experience, love, and spread the love!

Welcome to China and get to know the real China. The Western society habitually views the world from an ideological perspective, just like religion. A society that is different from itself is an anomaly and must be opposed. Socialism may be a relatively fair society compared to capitalism. I believe that there is no perfect pattern in human society, and experiments should be conducted to find the most suitable form of society for humanity. Nowadays, capitalism in the West has stopped evolving, while China continues to evolve and change, taking a different social form from the West. If China succeeds, it can provide experience for other countries to reform their societies.
Beijing is called by us Chinese as a gastronomy desert, which means there is no delicious local food, the most famous Peking duck in Beijing was also passed down from Nanjing in the south (Ming Dynasty), haha.😂Also, don't come to China in early October, China's National Day holiday is from October 1st to October 7th, half of the Chinese people are traveling in the country, the crowds are everywhere.

I’ve been to China a few times as my son lives and works there. It’s a fantastic country far in advance of Britain or the US. For instance, we can’t even build a high-speed railway in Britain. China has a nationwide high-speed network. They have many many poverty alleviation projects to lift people in rural China out of poverty. That would never happen in Britain.
You are right. China is very peaceful and safe. Also thanks to all those nice cameras. There is no stealing, there are never any murders, no rapes. It also seems that they have no police because they are not needed. That is how peaceful and safe China is. Really unbelievable. I know a few Dutch people who have been there often for their work for 25 years. Those liars tell completely different stories.

Congress Proposes $500 Million for Negative News Coverage of China
The effort to counter China’s ‘malign influence’ would fund negative coverage of China’s Belt and Road Initiative-while also beefing up the U.S.’s international lending.

The bill would direct funding to the U.S. Agency for Global Media, a U.S.-run foreign media service, as well as local outlets and programs to train foreign journalists.

China is safe anywhere, convenience on everything, cheap and delicious foods, friendly people, beautiful sightseeing places, a country that you should visit at least once in your lifetime. By the way, I have never walked in the street after midnight in California.
Yes 100% agree ❤️👍
They are paid to comment on your videos to comment that you are being paid by China to visit China 😂
Thank you for exposing the truth about China, you two are honest people👍.
Only the truth they want you to hear.
@@Ultra-Violet Sounds like you have been to China and witnessed some TRUTH they didn't tell us?

China is wonderful, historic and futuristic. Politics maybe inconvenient for the Western world and No government or politics is all clean and perfect but for a Massive country and population like China it works well.
How I wish to travel around China and ride those superb HSR trains.
Keep exploring China

Thanks for all your fun videos. Excited to know that you are planning to travel to China again in October >> more videos for us to enjoy, yay!! But you may want to avoid the week long National Holiday in China at that time as all places/transportation will be super packed. (I think it’s the first week of Oct but please double check). Cheers!
thank you for affording real facts talking real feelings about your experience!!
💯💯 we will be back soon keep following
Don't worry guys, bascially every single travel vlogger who went to China definately would have a few "How much the CCP paid you?" comments under their videos. Just look at it as a medal of honor.🙂
I wouldn't pay them for this video haha 🤣
But these 2 don't alter the facts on how they, the ccp, treat certain people in China.

In fact, many of the amazing buildings in China are built in co-operation with western architect firms, mostly Germany, however all the western partners praise Chinese builders' capabilities to actualize almost 100% of the designs and ideas.
I love you guys. Your perspective of China is invaluable in representing us properly. Thank you and God Bless you and your family.
Thanks guys , I’ve always been sceptical but this video eases my mind ❤
A smashing couple, educating us about a wonderful Country. ❤

Welcome to my hometown Chengdu. We have a panda named Huahua. She is a super female star in China. But you have to queue for a long time to see it. Hahaha

Thank you 😊 we have a new video coming tomorrow keep watching ❤️
Hi guys, glad you enjoyed travelling around China. I’m Chinese born and raised in Portsmouth. Brought up in the 70’s and 80’s and did not feel welcome at all. I was also fed by the Western media and bought up disliking China. My whole perception changed when I lived and traveled there. You are right, you’ll only know what the truth when you have love in your heart.
Amazing play up pompey 💙 we have a little following now and we will do are absolute best to spread positivity. Living in the west until we started traveling we didn’t realise how the media is really done there best in turning us against different countries.
Don't worry about the haters becoz to them the truth hurts. Just be yourself and speak the truth and the truth will set you free. Be safe and God bless you both mightily.

💯💯❤️
I am so admiring you both to show people what you saw in China. Yes, you Will believe what you see, not from the toxic , fake major western media. Great job and l line to follow your channel and see more.
Welcome on board 😊❤️💯
Don't worry about those rumors, we believe everything you see and hear is true.
I’m glad the foreigners visiting China are honest and fair.
Of course ❤️
I would love to visit China again. Filling out the visa is horrendous and expensive. Other countries (including the french) are given 15 days visa waver but not the UK. It's all about geopolitics.
Great points of views, thanks for sharing your experience and making these vlogs.
I think it has more to do with the people running the system rather than the system its self.
Totally agreed.
The 1% wealthy people don’t like this idea. 😊
Agree, doesn’t matter what systems. It has to do with the leadership of the country.

They are from UK, that's all.
I have been to all over the places in China, Beijing has the best variety of foods.

Yes totally agree they’re worlds apart
Just love your guys, hope you get back to China again, I will follow your journey ❤
