Wow!!!!! This is a heaven sent congratulations .. We do not suffer student debt in my country, The Philippines. I graduated without any debt. So much respect for the Graduates of America especially to this University and to all those Organizations that helped.
I’m crying happy tears for them 👏🏾👏🏾👏🏾😭. Congratulations 🍾

This made my day! Truly amazing gift 🎁....👏👏👏👏👏
These will prolly be the most generous alumni they've ever had!! 🙏🏾
Even better, more will give back knowing that they looked out in this fashion.

There are not many universities that can't do this and wilberforce is truly real
It's not "can't" it's "won't".
@@jane_doughnut agreed
@@jane_doughnut EXACTLY!!
It's an HBCU, it doesn't have the money of most private universities and the STILL did this. That's amazing!
Universities not only get State funding and large tax breaks but also spend million of dollars on sport programs and still pull in mass amounts of capital. Few Universities are struggling and many could do this.
I literally have tears in my eyes. I wish education was free to all.
Unfortunately some people in the congress think free education is socialism
Yeah sure spend the money of the people to make sure you get a good job
It used to be free in Australia. Then conservative governments decided to adopt the American model. The quality of education has suffered because university is now just marketed as a place to get your piece of paper. People pay, they expect the paper. So standards for passing are dropped so that everyone gets their “product”. So for us, the days of University as a place to produce informed, active and inquiring citizens has gone.
No only to blacks
cry more communist
this gave me chills. you know someone in that audience was really going through it and burst into tears when he said they had no debt to pay back
To do this as an HBCU which doesn't get the same funding as most universities is AMAZING!! I'm so happy for them and so proud of Willberforce!!!!!
What are you talking about? They are funded through the state and government. Our tax dollars are paying this.
You need to educate yourself.
@@cruzinandcashin Read what the comment said....
@@Ocean-yl4do I did what are you talking about.
The other schools have lost 9 funding sources so No that school gets more funding.
How more universities don’t do this is an absolute shame. Graduating with debt after college is one of the biggest failures this country is leaving behind as a legacy of how higher education has become a financial burden, and, subsequently a long-term debt that in some cases costs more to obtain than you may benefit from.
Much praise to this college👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼👏🏼
Shame on prestigious universities, the best starter they can give to student is always debt
This made me ugly cry happy tears! What an amazing gift to these young people!

This is truly amazing
No student should even be forced into debt in the name of education.
Yes they should, education isn’t free it’s not a right. It is a privilege. If you want free education somebody will be paying why should $ come out of my pocket to pay for your education?
Sokrit lun because an educated society is a productive society? As much as you can all claim but muh free market and privilege you seem to forget that social welfare, healthcare and public education are services provided by the government paid for by our taxes, forcing students on debt would not be carried not just by them but also their families meaning their parents would carry their debt and even if they die those debts would also stay with them and even if they live through they will be forced to pay those debts even if they have families of their own thus perpetuating a cycle of poverty where every person is trapped in that.
No developments will be put when students are put into debt, more of them will end up on Amazon warehouses forced to work on dirt poor wages to pay off those debts instead of working what they studied for.
That statement of yours is the height of inhumanity that I have never seen since Stalin and Hitler and I will only hope that you get a reality check.
Marlo York Rodriguez all I see is excuses and not taking responsibility. You just want freebies.
Sokrit lun being forced to debt is personal responsibility? Being forced to poverty is personal responsibility? Please enlighten me about this personal responsibility, isn’t personal responsibility is seeking education so that you won’t be poor? Isn’t personal responsibility is seeking a job that is fitting to your qualifications and not being forced to take a job that is because it’s convenient? Obviously you are trolling for attention so I will not entertain you.
@@sokritlun1624 Education should be equal and free. Saying that education should come at a high price only the rich can afford is classist

This is how college graduation should be for everyone in this country. It should be a celebration of what you’re moving on to and not a reminder of the looming debt that will hang over your head for a decade.
What a blessed start to a career journey, crying tears and joy for all the graduates. Live boldly and confidently but always be humble.
Now, if only we could reroute some of the gargantuan, bloated budget thrown at the military to do this for ALL students, we might actually reap some long-term benefits for everyone.
truly. i saw a stat that said it would cost a few billion dollars to pay for it. but alas americans don’t want to pay for anything but their own success and have been really just brainwashed to believe that socialist practices like free healthcare and education are evil, when they bring good to their communities and the world.
Whether you like it or not, wee we need the military. Can’t get caught off guard we have way too many enemies.

@Emma Burner I get that, but it is important that people are allowed to educate themselves regardless of how they are doing financially. Restricting education is a recipe for class division and poverty, something we have plenty of in the UK and US as a result of doing such things in the past.
@Emma Burner “don’t require higher education....well paid.” i really hope you’re in support of the $15 minimum wage or else this argument is completely brain dead. bc the only jobs i can think of that don’t require higher education is working fast food- fast food jobs where the lowest minimum wage in america is $6. yea...idk about you but that’s not well paid, nor enough to live off of.

The world is alredy like this, america fall behind
Lol, we get paid to go to university. Yes, we get paid. The world doesn’t need to be like this: you Americans need to learn humility and learn from the world, and stop thinking you’re ahead of it. Starting from your own comment.
P.s. that’s not to say that the rest of the world is better either: some places may be better at offering free stuff, but then lack things you have in other fields. It’s not so simple: one can’t just compare like that of course, it has to be a holistic exercise. Just wanted to put that in case I was misunderstood: I am sure America actually leads in certain fields. We all need to learn from each other.
@ken cur I mean if we’re going to address your pure anecdote, america is one of those nations that are bad in other fields already, mathematics below OECD average, etc. Do you think we’re going to have a famine if we make education free? Just joking, but still man I can’t really see your point when we’re the richest nation in the world, and could just allocate our current spending away from the military. If we still for some reason cannot pay for it, increase corporate taxes, and for the tax brackets, increase the further on the wealthy, like those who make 300,000-500,000$ yearly, etc. also, what country are you from?
Thia is amazing, All these student are off from a huge burden. In return the students will work hard to make their university and family proud.

This is great, though it's sad that such a thing only happens randomly through elective and optional actions, rather than public policy.
It’s sad that we live in a country where is a privilege to go to an Ivy League University rather than a right. The past four years of you know who have taught me one thing. We need to invest more on education especially in poor communities.
Huh? How can it be a right to attend specific universities?
@@SunnySJamil look at her grammar, she needs it.

The top students by test scores don't get to go to the fanciest schools, unless their family is rich. There aren't enough scholarships to support our best minds every year.
Every year we don't educate people like that is a waste of talent, and a second rate student takes their place because their parents are rich.

This is a nice gesture. But it is also misleading. The bulk of student debt is to the government and banks they took loans from. These students wouldn't have made it to graduation if they owed the school a huge sum of money. The school cannot forgive debt to banks or government loans. $375,000 divided by 166 students is approximately $2,200 per student. In 2021, the average student graduates with $37,000 in debt. I think it is quite cruel to lead these graduates to think they are debt-free. They may not owe the school anything. But they still have loans to pay. A publicity stunt is all this really is.
Too bad most of those students debt is not to the university itself. He doesnt have the power to forgive federal loans to students.
Also 375k for 2 classes is not much. Average student owes at least 25k
Isn't this a private university? Pretty sure they provide a lot more loans than the federal government in this case.
@@boogiedownbronx73 I wouldn't say it's "not much"... That could be a really nice down payment on a car or a way to pay off a lot of other debt.

Me too. I saw a few in this vid that had gestures of disappointment. Like "oh well"
They got something better than what money can buy: The ability to hold their head up high, knowing that they worked on their own for every bit of their success today!
P.S. Each student only owed around $2.26k on average, so if they paid for all that upfront, it would still hurt but probably not massively.

This is a great gesture, I'm happy for all the people who will start their life free of college debt. On the other hand, I'm pretty sure some of these students busted their a$$ working 2-3 jobs and didn't have a life for years just so they don't go into serious debt for their education. This just saved so many people long term stress.
Friends of mine, close to mid-late 30s, are just getting out of debt. NY to live is expensive enough, the unreal expectations of $50,000 a semister as a personal example ;for me to make what i owe, is like an invisible mortgage.
I know people who will be in major debt who are walking panic attacks at times from it.
Paying to make a better, smarter, country, peers, society, whatever it might be shouldn't cost as much as it does[shouldn't cost anything, some nations thrive on unmotivated, uneducated, stressed people from pharmaucal companies, the school itself, vulnerability is good for many major/not so major -aspects of life. And this is a wackado status quo.
College is less and less what it was, and harder to afford. With technology, being good it can make schools ramp prices up ;that is on the university to be wise about where $ goes
