I agree with you. In Dutch we have a concept we've termed the "rechtstaat" which is considered to be a sort of fundamental state of being for our society possibly best compared with the phrase "a nation of laws" if it must be translated into English. Essentially it means the state is itself bound by law and legal rights and justice are not (supposed to be) subject to political whims and arbitrary despotism. It's why our courts and judges are not politically appointed and even the public prosecutors are nominally independent from politics and government. I could sort of understand the appeal of elected public prosecutors in the sense that the people might be deciding what they feel is important to pursue or if they want to show trust in the competence of the prosecutor. But elected judges seems absurd, especially when they campaign on ideology and values. Generally the law should be their only measure. That being said, I live in one of the many countries that has a codified legal code, and the USA has a hybrid system heavily leaning towards common law which places defining what justice is almost completely with the judge.
I guess that's why people think California is weird. Californians have more say in things than in some other states. Can even put Propositions on the ballot with enough signatures.
American politics feel like high school politics to me - the louder, the most visible, the richer ones have the best chances, not the most qualified ones.
There’s nothing wrong with changing your mind. If policy makers changed their mind based on the body of evidence and public opinion more often, our country would be better for it. I hope our generation becomes the generation that finally does away with the narrative that changing your mind is “flip flopping”, and that flip flopping is bad thing. Flip flopping based on where the body evidence currently sits is a good thing. I wish every politician flip flopped more often. If they did, government policy wouldn’t be so far behind public opinion on basically every issue. Policy lags behind shifting public opinion and leads to issues where there is a large consensus being completely irrelevant to government policy on those issues for like two decades before policy actually changes to meet the consensus of experts and the consensus of the public.
I’ve always felt these things about Kamala but never knew how to really put it into proper words. But yes she has a deep conviction but yet has nothing to be convicting for. That’s why it surprised me with how many people are demanding to know what her policies are. She’s just gonna be a continuation of Biden with some minor changes. She’s not very inventive but give her a cause she can rationally get behind and she brings that prosecutor energy. That’s why the campaign has had such momentum right now. In her mind this is primarily “beat Donald Trump” and it’s proving successful for the time being.
I agree, and this why I really like Walz as her VP as he does have those qualities she lacks. Always gotta remember we're not just voting for the one person, we're also voting for the team of individuals around that person. Same here in Canada. I'm from the UK, and I've lived in the US. I have family there. Our system -as with the NHS - is under serious strain. But that's because of deliberate underfunding and neglect by successive governments. Though I think it's been particularly pernicious over 14 years of Tory rule in the UK. Conservatives everywhere seek to starve and break any and all social programs. The benefits of a healthy, well educated society is not their priority. They are motivated strictly by self interest and prefer a system that subjugates most people for the benefit of the few, as long as they are part of the few. And the most important thing from their perspective is to consolidate their positions so as to ensure that remains the case.

As a foreigner I cannot grasp why people are elected for a spot like district attorney. It sounds wrong to me that people must campaign and run for that function (or even for judge). The executive and legislative branches are supposed to be accessible via elections, but judicial functions? District attorney, prosecutor? Madness
I think it's great that people get tp choose who enforces the laws.
District Attorney / prosecutor are part of the executive branch
Kamala paints a flowery image for us like we'll have a better life (housing, work/pay, Medicare, food, gasoline, etc.) after she becomes President but she is only fooling her supporters because they are not thinking sensibly or seriously and not questioning her. Their life or their parents life will not be better, just like it is now but worse when we actually see where we are taken.
Well said! TY.
😘☮️🙏🎸
She says that she wants to learn all information before giving her opinion, but that just makes me feel like how really uninformed is she before giving a press conference? She’s not that intelligent people I live in California, California and what’s happened to our state is a shame. she only cares about numbers that look good, but in fact aren’t
I mean she even admitted that she cares about the numbers
@@johncrichter that’s what I’m saying she never took on cases that she new she couldn’t win or make a political statement with. Prosecutors are really horrible people and they never see the good in humanity .
She's a chameleon and a follower. Not a leader...

“Im gonna come!”
So that’s what the clip I hear all the time is from 😂
The funny part is the only thing I remember when she was DA in SF was the drug lab scandal.
No smartphones back then. I barely used the internet in my off time. I probably read the local paper more by paper than online.
She’s spend her prosecutorial career locking up black men and laughing about it when she’s asked if she smoked weed. She’s a phoney and would make very bad socialist policies.
she’s so unburdened 😂
Too brainless, that's why😂😅
Obviously. She seems high or drunk most of the time I've seen/heard her.
"She's not going to rock the boat", WHAT?!? She is planning on taxing peope on their UNREALIZED GAINS! THAT WILL CAPSIZE THE BOAT!
She’s literally saying anything to get votes. She’s not going to do anything like that. She just claimed to be all in favor of fracking and offshore drilling in her recent interview 😂
Hey we don’t talk actual policy here just vibes
You think she just fell out of a coconut tree?
We are NOT going back 💙👍🏻
Onward into more Marxism right?
Oh, on the contrary, you are! 😂
Queen of the Word Salad
More like... Witch of the Word Salad!
Should’ve looked into who she prosecuted 😂 Great journalism
Hella black people for non violent drug crimes. In California of all places. 1,600 convictions. Harsher sentences. Then wants to say that she was progressive. She played the game, and played it well. Now she needs to own up to that.
How come clips were shown only from CNN and not the other side?
I was disappointed that she’s done so poorly with the border as VP and has never even been to the border. It’s embarrassing as an American. The border is one of our biggest issues.
Is it? Why, besides the fearmongering and politics? I'm more disappointed that 25% of migrant families and kids separated at the border still haven't been reunited.
Asking a VP to tackle such an enormous issue is unusual. I prefer my politicians to get results, not do a photo op.
Her role was to research reason for immigration.
She did visit El Paso june 2021.
@@desiree8911That started under the Obama administration. In fact the pictures that started all the rage were from an Associated Press article from 2014. The Biden administration lost track of tens of thousands of migrant children and somehow nobody cares all that much about that issue.
Registered Democrat here - I WISH DEMS WOULD PUT UP SOMEONE WHO COULD WIN 🏆 not the Vice to Genocide Joe.
Ohh she will be great at grilling people on both sides, Democrats or Republicans, that's objective and wise. She should get a chance.
Feelings over policy. A complete disaster for the Western world in she gets to be President.
Yea Rump is the ideal of a rational human being in control of his emotions, the Roman ideal of "mens sana in corpore sano". Yup. Uh-huh.
The only thing you need to know is if she loses she won’t act like spoiled 4 year old.
No, but when she loses lots of Democrats are going to riot like 4 year old spoiled children.
No, because she is like a 5 year old..
- Russia is a big country...Ukraine is a smaller country...Russia invaded Ukraine...it is not good... (teacher, is that right of me...?)
- Yes, you have been good...
@@AndyJonson-m1q Is there any reason you believe that Russia invading Ukraine is good?
Hey cult members sure are acting that way though.
@@arshakakbar1062 Did I say that? Read again!
Wait I thought vox was left? I’m really glad y’all are showing the truth🙏❤️👍
I live in CA.
Shaving cream is locked up behind glass.
Crime is out of control.
So quit voting democrat. Newsome is directly responsible for that.
She’s effective asking questions but crumbles when the light is turned back on her. Classic bully!
