Walt *did* seem to age backwards! He became a real puppy, however old he actually was. I’d say they let *him* change with their love and patience, meeting him right where he was, and giving him the space to come out of his shell as he was ready.
Someone failed the whole humanity test back there, I'd say. I wish we could brand it on their faces so that we might notice them earlier and prevent them from 'failing' again.
People who bother to get a pet and then treat it horribly are beyond me. I simply cannot understand it. I'm not the biggest pet person... I just adopt other peoples' pets because I don't currently have my own house where I can easily have a pet, a yard for a dog to go run around and slap in a doggy door... I think people just get greedy, they want a pet and they get one and can't take care of it. And they're too horribly stubborn to realize it until they've caused serious harm.
We had a Boxer/Lab mix (she's been gone for a few years now due to lymphoma, but we still miss her) who, when we first got her, wouldn't come anywhere near me and my dad but she warmed right up to my mom. That led us to believe that she had previously been abused or neglected by a man. But once she understood that none of us were going to hurt her, she became a total sweetheart (and she was deceptively smart as well). She wouldn't beg or whine for scraps while we were eating dinner, she'd just put her head on your lap and look up at you. She was also the most passive and laid-back dog I've ever known, and I've known a lot of dogs in my life, she would literally allow our Jack Russel to take food right out of her mouth, and not once did she show any sign of aggression (she never even bared her teeth at anyone). She was a bit shy around people she was unfamiliar with (especially men), but once she was used to you she was incredibly friendly and loved being petted and scratched.
@@gamester512 I'm sorry to hear about your loss. I've experienced losing animals that were feral and just tried my best to save them but unfortunately one gave in to the anaesthetic. The worst part is their cries never go away, they are haunting in many ways. All we can do though is to give them all our love and understand that when we take them in we are responsible to do whatever is required to keep them healthy and to live long.
I couldn’t agree more! I worked in shops when I was younger and when dealing with people in that setting your bound to get the odd nasty or stupid customers, but while not religious, I turned the other cheek, and was overly nice to them, not so they’d think I was being sarcastic or rude, just normal friendly service, and I could see they just didn’t know what to say, it felt good!
same, but hard thing is with animals like this, that they have to do it in their own time, so the rescuer needs to resist the urge to just smother them in love :'( I'm facing that right now with my rescue birds, I SO much want to give them a big cuddle, but need to respect their fear & just talk to them & spend time with them to help them learn to trust. It's horrible not being able to fully cuddle!

@@SweetChicagoGator nice :) (the animals, not the humans in your childhood) I love reptiles too :) Blue tongue lizards are my favourite. I've got lorikeets, what type do you have? & I hope you find a home full of human love as well as your animal love filled home when you're old enough for that (not sure how old you are now as to if that times is now or in the future) When non-domesticated animals like birds & reptiles choose to love, it really is something extremely special isn't it!
@@mehere8038 Much appreciate your kind words ! My childhood was many decades ago I am over 60 , a Sole Survivor ! Are lorikeets similar to parakeets? I mostly had parakeets and one Canary. Also, kittens & one female Cocker Spaniel. Greetings from Chicago wish you a wonderful day !! 😊
@@SweetChicagoGator well well done surviving! Shame you're the only one though :( Not sure on similar, cause parakeets can refer to a range of birds, including lorikeets, from what I understand though in the US it mostly refers to budgies? If that's what you mean, then pretty different :) Lorikeets are nectar eaters ie their entire diet is sugar. Think of what a child that eats only sugar is like & that's what you get in lorikeets lol VERY hyperactive, outgoing, boisterous birds! They also poop just liquid muck that is basically glue & they think it's funny to poop on their walls instead of the floor & everywhere else they can. They're often called "the clowns of the bird world". They're very smart & they figure out what gets a reaction very quickly & repeat & expand on just for fun. They'll do things like physics experiments, if you drop a piece of lettuce out of the cage door onto the floor, what does it do? Now how about a grape, lets try that & see if it does the same thing, how about turning around & pooping out the door? & they really do watch them falling & landing in curiosity too & then often follow up by squarking at you to come & pick them up for them after dropping every item from their cage onto the floor outside it. Mine also figured out that breadsticks/rusks I gave them to chew on, but designed to be too hard to just eat in full, could be dunked in water to soften for easy eating lol They drop dried fruit in water so it will expand over time too & they LOVE the sound of their own voices & they love calling to wild birds, making sure the call is loud enough for wild birds to hear - normally right when they're near your ear & they know what they're doing! & they LOVE water!!!!! Have a look at some lorikeet bath videos if you want to see that! & if not given baths regularly enough in their minds, they'll climb into their water dish, or at least stick their head into it & empty it Put simply, they're very intelligent & active & kinda a nightmare, but also really great fun & very entertaining :) I have had budgies before too, but only as a child, lorikeets I would say in summary are smarter & more confident & outgoing & mischievous and MUCH louder! Budgies are still really awesome little friends to have though, I love them for that! MUCH calmer & more reserved than lorikeets are! & again, glad you managed to survive that childhood & hope you've had 40 odd years of good life since then :) I grew up in a pretty messed up home too, so I can relate :) (and actually my 2 lorikeets I have were rescues from a bad home too, they had nearly a decade of neglect & isolation, so now they're really learning to love & explore & enjoy life :)) Very rewarding. When they arrived, they knew nothing but sitting alone in a tiny cage, eating their daily food & self mutilating by ripping out all their own feathers & screaming & then being told to shut up & having things thrown at their cage if they didn't. Now they're in together, in an open cage with heaps of toys & a huge range of foods to eat or play with & allowed out of the cage to explore anytime they feel confident enough to do that (which is increasing) & they're just clearly becoming happier & happier in themselves & also learning that now people won't hurt them & can be good :)
So strange almost like two persons who had total different experiences. One dog been through some horrible experience in return it totally broke its spirits other is so excited for the new friend without even knowing him.

I had an Akita that would not look me in the eyes or let me show any affection for weeks until one day she seemed to "give in". She just came over put her head on my knee and sighed! From that moment on for the next 8 years she was my shadow!
I have a rescued dog who spent five years tied up in a garden. She had never been inside a house, been up stairs, been taken for a walk. It took a bit of time but she got used to the fact that she is loved now. She follows me around the house all the time and is so loving. I am also glad that I made her life better, as have you. Good on you!
Thank you for taking care of her. It's just heartbreaking to hear all this stuff. Why are people doing these things to poor, innocent animals, why are the keeping pets if they can't take care of it.
@@amarnathcr7335 in some countries it’s normal to do that… my dog has been living outside for years, but there was a shade for him and everything he needed, we had a pond for him too. Our house was quite small and cramped so we didn’t allow him inside. But we let him come inside for baths. He was very precious to us, everyday I would take some of the food that our school provided us and share it with him (I was like 6 that time) and he’d always greet me when I came home. It’s been 3 years since he died, I loved him very much, even if u let your dog live outside, it doesn’t mean your don’t love them…there are some circumstances where they don’t like getting trapped in tight spaces so being outside running around is good for them. Well unless you’ve got a big house and everything, plus my brother has allergies, so the fur would make him sick.

The fact that he was conditioned to face the wall for hours just broke my heart completely. People often speak about dogs like they were some sub species but they’re in fact infinitely better than most people, especially the monsters that did that to him.
Fortunately, dogs seem to be much more resilient than we humans are, in over-coming abuse and emotional trauma. It's heart-breaking to imagine what Walt must have endured before being rescued. It takes a caring person (and persistence) to make them understand they are loved and wanted.
@ If that were true dogs wouldn't show any signs of past trauma/being traumatized. But many of them do. And many are badly affected by past drama and abuse. So what you said really ain't true. If it takes some kind of "treatment" to get over the past then it ain't true that they are (in your words) "Cognitively incapable to dwell in the past." And many of them will stay "traumatized" if they don't get that "treatment" Even if that trauma is in their past Plus the idea that they don't have a sense of self-awareness is an ideal from the past.
Johannes Tesssema You’re incorrect. There are many studies supporting the fact that dogs have declarative memory. I had a dog who experienced trauma she never got over. At a certain point in the park, a dog lunged for her and tried to grab her. She was fine, but she never forgot. At that specific point in the park she would become frightened and jump on us for us to pick her up.
@@keng4847 Some people just talk without a clue of what they are yammering about. I think they like to 'hear themselves talking' or in this case texting. Dogs, cats, & other domesticated animals have feelings this person doesn't. I've seen many cases of critters that were abused due to people not knowing any better &/or not careing. Back in the 1950s until 1970 my parents kept our dogs on chains because they couldn't afford to fence in the backyard. After I went off to college they: 1) fenced the yard; 2) carpeted the house - much to my regret; & 3) put in central AC. I came home to a very happy red dachshund who was running around HIS backyard like a puppy, at the ripe old age of 7. He lived till 1980 while I was overseas getting married. We didn't know keeping the dogs on a chain was bad. We just loved them & didn't want out nutcase neighbor to shoot them for stepping a paw on his yard or to get run over. Big difference is our dogs knew they were loved, fed plus given fresh water daily, cared for via baths & vet visits. Our dogs were not tramatized.
My daughter adopted a dog they had for years before he died of old age. He never got better. He’d been used as a breeder and lived in a rotten cage all his life. It’s nice to see some dogs come out of it.
He never came out of it cause his spirit & soul was broken by the horrid humans who abused him.Thank U all for adopting him, loving him, caring for him🤗😄👍💕❤️
Yup. Got my one Papillon at 6, and she's 12 now. She was from a puppy mill and had been bred until she physically couldn't be any longer. Her front arms are messed up from the crate or from people grabbing her, and she had to have spinal surgery last year due to all the issues. She doesn't let us touch her without panic. You brush against her without her seeing you and she will literally jump in the air and run as fast as she can. There are places we can pet her (like her crate) but she cowers in fear while you do it, and will run from you otherwise. But then you bring out a treat or she sees a leash and she acts like a normal dog, jumping and wagging her tail. You ring the doorbell and she starts barking and jumping around. It's been hard but it's the little things. She bonded with my other Papillon to where she is literally dependent on her, and that's fine with me. She is living life how she needs to now. Edit: fixed some spots where my wording was confusing because I ramble. 😀
Aw man. The poor baby. Yeah, the trauma they have been through can be just too much sometimes. Like us I guess. At least he *did* have that loving home anyway to live out his days, whether or not he was able to fully embrace it. In this case, not, 😔

It astonishes me enough that someone mistreats an innocent dog that bad. What is so hard for me to wrap my head around is the sheer amount of people doing it. It’s beyond disgusting and horrific.
I think that is the least they deserve. Dogs do so much for us, we don't deserve them. They will comfort you when your sad, they will celebrate when you are happy. They will just hang with you when you are lonely. And they forgive you when you do them wrong. I am glad he has found a loving home and I am glad his owner has giving him the chance to live his best life as their friend and companion.
Got that right brother , Dogs should be considered sacred like cows in India , And the concept that dogs are put down in shelters should be abolished and considered criminal. OK , if there's no one to take claim them and the cost to feed them is something that no one wants the responsibility for , then the fed government should bear that cost , Hell , the things they spend money on is outrageous anyway , i could write a list. This comment left me unease for a reason. WARNING UNPOPULAR OPINION but wishing bad on other people seems bad. An eye for an eye doesn’t work. Shouldn’t we wish the former owners seek mental health to better themselves to make better decisions which contribute to the development of humanity. That’s the same thinking as “put em in jail.” The jail system is broken. Where’s the reformation? Where’s the redemption?
@Ra Light Personal I agree with you sentiment on the whole but not for people who treat the most vulnerable like trash, and that includes Man's Best Friend. If a person can treat a creature whose entire existence revolves around loving you unconditionally it shows that person is displaying the biggest red flag for psychopathy. There is simply no excuse in any circumstance whatsoever to treat a dog to the point it behaves this way. I am thoroughly anti corporate prison system and despise those that profit over sending people to prison and their recidivism. But whoever did this to the dog deserves punishment. And for "educating" or "reforming" them? If someone doesn't display any empathy for a helpless creature, especially the repeated behavior required to make a dog act like this, their issues are much deeper than simple reformation. A giant kick in the balls, applied repeatedly a few times a day over several years is what that person deserves.
@@Jon.A.Scholt well hey to each their own, I say offer unconditional forgiveness, unconditional support. You prefer taking a conditional route with extreme punishment. I’m not a fan of pedophiles but I wouldn’t say give them extreme punishment. Simple execution. Move along. There’s always a price to pay. The main idea is if we carry these energy of hatred, we give birth to hatred. Also like the wise money from Loin King said, “It’s in the past.” Now we can gather hatred for the former owners and punish ourselves by lowering our vibes to inflict hurt on them or (Frozen) Let It Go, (Ram Dass) Be Here Now, and (Beetles) Let It Be The dog is happy now. I grew up with dogs all my life and could never imagine how anyone willingly harm or neglect these beautiful creatures that have stood by us through the last 10,000 years of human history- all they want is love and snacks it’s not that difficult. Until I remember lots of kids didn’t grow up with dogs and missed out on learning true compassion and responsibility from that young age. Volunteering at animal shelters should be required at all schools every year cuz it’ll only do good in the world.
I totally agree. Still, it's interesting that so many people who are compassionate towards dogs are not so much to other animals like cows and chickens and ducks. People will say that they are animal lovers as they're munching on someone's mother.

@@toastedbear7567 Phobias can be surmounted. I was afraid of dogs as a child. My mother was bitten by a dog in her youth and she often spoke of it. That doesn’t mean the other creatures don’t deserve a good life however when predatory animals need to feed their young it’s often with the meat of other animals. same, but hard thing is with animals like this, that they have to do it in their own time, so the rescuer needs to resist the urge to just smother them in love :'( I'm facing that right now with my rescue birds, I SO much want to give them a big cuddle, but need to respect their fear & just talk to them & spend time with them to help them learn to trust. Much appreciate your kind words !
Shame you're the only one though :(
Not sure on similar, cause parakeets can refer to a range of birds, including lorikeets, from what I understand though in the US it mostly refers to budgies? If that's what you mean, then pretty different :)
Lorikeets are nectar eaters ie their entire diet is sugar.
& if not given baths regularly enough in their minds, they'll climb into their water dish, or at least stick their head into it & empty it
Put simply, they're very intelligent & active & kinda a nightmare, but also really great fun & very entertaining :) I have had budgies before too, but only as a child, lorikeets I would say in summary are smarter & more confident & outgoing & mischievous and MUCH louder!
Hell is going to be full of heartless people who abuse these precious animals! Thank God for people like you who rescue them!!

Good on you, too! Rescues are so loving once they figure out their new person loves them and will take care of them always.

If it takes some kind of "treatment" to get over the past then it ain't true that they are (in your words) "Cognitively incapable to dwell in the past."
And many of them will stay "traumatized" if they don't get that "treatment" Even if that trauma is in their past
Plus the idea that they don't have a sense of self-awareness is an ideal from the past.
I personally do not believe that animals can overcome trauma like humans. They need to be treated with patience and love. They still can remember.
There’s plenty humans who can overcome such trauma, and no evidence to suggest dogs are any better.
My daughter adopted a dog they had for years before he died of old age. He never got better. He’d been used as a breeder and lived in a rotten cage all his life. It’s nice to see some dogs come out of it.
once my dog dies ima kill my self honestly, hes the only thing keeping me alive.

Save our Dogs

Also like the wise money from Loin King said, “It’s in the past.”
Now we can gather hatred for the former owners and punish ourselves by lowering our vibes to inflict hurt on them or (Frozen) Let It Go, (Ram Dass) Be Here Now, and (Beetles) Let It Be
The dog is happy now. That’s all that matters.
Ok this is just my perspective. With that being said, peace
@@LukeDLight people like you always say "an eye for an eye doesn't work" but then just leave it at that. Well, guess what? It doesn't leave the whole world blind, just the ones taking people's eyes. Seems like it works to me
@@_Stormfather well hey, if you want to take justice into your own hand and expand your sense of chaotic justice which is still in the cycle of hatred and let the hate build on, more power to you. There's a path where you can transmute the pain, convert the hatred into something beautiful and I say that because energy never dies.
It's as simple as add fire to the fuel or grab an extinguisher
Aww he is so cute

People will say that they are animal lovers as they're munching on someone's mother.
what makes it difficult is if you have traumatic experience with a dog maybe you dont but others have thats why cynophobia exists not sure why they should harm animals tho
@@toastedbear7567 Phobias can be surmounted. I was afraid of dogs as a child. My mother was bitten by a dog in her youth and she often spoke of it. In those days dogs were allowed to run free in the city and sometimes they would gather in a pack. Now we have leash laws and l am fine with dogs. I used to do dog sitting for my daughter.
kkkk
@@lvega5606 this is true and I see your point- however dogs aren’t livestock or produced as punching bags or targets for abuse. They started as wolves that formed a bond with ancient man in a mutually beneficial relationship and we fine tuned it over the years to suit our needs and wants. That doesn’t mean the other creatures don’t deserve a good life however when predatory animals need to feed their young it’s often with the meat of other animals. That being said, we certainly over consume way too many animal based “products” myself included but at least I make an effort to be cognizant of it and minimize whenever I can.
Sweet little dog. Well done
All he needs is love! I love how even the most beaten down animals always end up thriving when they finally get to their forever home that's filled with love.
This dog was so traumatized and just had a rough upbringing. I’m glad he’s living a much better life now. I want to give him a great big hug.
What in heavens name could anyone do this to a dog. So happy you came into this poor defenseless baby life and did an amazing job turning his life around. Thank you and God bless.
Hey
Walt. What a star.
Someone really abused him badly, poor Walt. Now he's living the good life❤
